Clyde does some Glyphing, with his ghostly assistant

While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

Ghosts and Glyphs[Elaine Spade]

Clyde shuffled back the the spot, once he put out the flames that had started in a few small spots. Easy enough to stomp out.

There was a small burnt patch devoid of grass now, were his first scroll had been. He thought for a moment, what could have gone wrong? But was interrupted by Elaine's question.

"Clyde, why do you need that for? It's not a child toy for sure..."

He smiled back at her, shook her head, and took out a new piece of parchment, and his things to write with. As he copied down his prior Glyphs, he answered her question.

"Of course not. And usually it is not like that. That only happened, because I petched something up. But I will get it right eventually. Usually Glyphs help to stabilize magic, or to hold it, or to even aid me in casting. But... Well as I think I said I am trying something new, and such experimentation usually involves some failures. That is why I am doing this at a small scale, before I scale it up. I will get it right soon."

Writing out the three focus of different sizes, the small path going out to the switch, then the splitting to make two new paths that led to the focus. With the barrier going around the first focus, the right side being dropped by the trigger and its wording. He worded it the same as before.

With all his previous steps visible before him, he pondered what he had done wrong, muttering to himself.

"The paths are fine... That is not the issue. And it only came out of the focus and switch... So they are the problem... Perhaps I need to reinforce the switch, or mark with another Glyph what it should do? And I think some of the sparks of flame caught the scroll on fire, which ended up releasing it all..."

Clyde bent down to the switch, and examined it closer. Clyde drew a < Shape inside of the switch, and wrote above it 1/2. The funnel to mark that the outlet was wider and spread out, and the number to show it was spread equally in half.

He thought for a moment more, and looked at the entrance Glyphs. Just to be on the safe side, he drew a second row of a barrier identical to the first, around the focus, editing the trigger and widening it so it would also now lower this second layer.

Clyde exuded another small ball of res the same as the first, lit it into flames, and tossed it downward into the main focus Glyph, transmuting it all to flames.

Running back to his safe spot, he motioned for Elaine.

"Alright, try two. Ready when you are."

Ghosts and Glyphs[Elaine Spade]

She was again just sitting, watching and listening to him. So stabilize magic... well that wasn't one. Maybe a weapon, maybe not she just could ask and before she could ask that question he was muttering. First she thought it was to her then she realized it was to himself. She had a great time because she was with him but she had to admit that was... kinda boring. She sighed and she took a quick look at the glyphing.

She was only amazed that little symbols like this:< could change a lot in glyphing. No wonder it was dangerous for someone who doesn't know how to use it. And those switches and and focus and these stuff just gave her headache even to understand it. She shook her head and he was already ready. Clyde went back to the spot where he was before and Elaine was sitting near the glyphing. She checked again the trigger, but it was the same as before. She stood up and took some steps back from the scroll. Again with louder voice she said it. "Filtering Fixtures!"

Elaine just didn't know what happened suddenly as she was suprised a little. Two flamethowers were spewing out from the focus. They were little. Now that was interesting and exciting, that was supposed to happen for sure. She was even smiling and as it stopped the scroll became dust... She now looked at Clyde and she ran to him. "That was absolutely amazing! I have never seen something like that before! Is that supposed to be a weapon? Clyde you did it!" She got so excited so sudden and said everything which came to her mind. She even hugged Clyde but she didn't materialize herself to not make him feel cold.

After she realized how dumb she acted (she thought she did) she let Clyde alone. She was still smiling only a bit though. "Sorry..." Only word she could whisper.

Ghosts and Glyphs[Elaine Spade]

Postby Clyde Sullins on July 5th, 2013, 11:28 pm

Clyde waited for a chime, for Elaine to activate the Glyphing. This time, it all went perfectly. Twin streams of flame shot up a few feet from the focus, only lasting for a few instants.

That was when part of the problem before dawned on him. The size of the Glyphs. He had made the exit Glyphs smaller than the entrance Glyph... But even with cutting the power in half, that was to big. Which was why the magical effect had reversed back out the first focus barrier, it had been to weak.

But when he added the second layer of barrier, it had made it able to withstand the magic so that it was forced out the unblocked focus. Which was also why it came out as a stream, instead of as a ball of flame.

He would need to keep this in mind for his later idea, which was more or less straightforward. It was the same idea, simply scaling it up a few hundred notches. Adding a bunch of powerful spells together, to come out as one spell far stronger than he could ever make by itself.

So the reverse of his previous attempts. Now he just needed to try it the other way around, adding instead of dividing power.

"Thanks, I do try. And it could be used as a weapon, just as Reimancy itself can be used as a weapon. Glyphing in this way just allows me to store it, and use it safely, even in combat, as if I had just made it in a calm setting like this. But when you make such a thing straight up in combat... It can be less safe, less controlled, more wasteful. So it is preferable to prepare it beforehand."

"But the big thing here, is that I can do things with it I cannot normally. Such as splitting its power, or adding it up. Or even doing it slowly in bits over time, and then adding them up. All to release whenever I choose."

Clyde just smiled at her reaction to his magic, which was not that different to other reactions he had seen. Kyra for instance had usually reacted as such...

"Alright, I just want to try one more thing, to combine them, instead of splitting them... But I will need to be more careful this time, as I want to combine a pair of lightning bolts. So I will need to move farther away."

"Is that alright? And thank you by the way, for all your help."

Reinmancy as a weapon and Glyphing for storing it. Magic was tricky, and hard to understand even for her. It wasn't unusual in Zeltiva but she didn't care about it much. And another test to combine them interesting and more interesting. She nodded and whispered to him."Of course! It's actually fun... And no need to thank! You did a lot to me too!"

She sat down again and waited while he was preparing it again. She had a good day now, she didn't do so much but she could help finally to him. Also she was with him. But also she missed Noaru a bit now. It was a quite time since he went away from Ravok. "..do you really have that bad expierence with him? I mean with Noaru?"

Ghosts and Glyphs[Elaine Spade]

Postby Clyde Sullins on July 11th, 2013, 4:29 am

Clyde set to work on his final work of Glyphing, taking out another parchment and repeating his work from earlier. When doing so many in such a similar fashion, it did tend to simplify things, make it easier to go on to the next step with only slight deviations. Much more so than making it from scratch each time.

This time, he made the Glyphing mostly the same, except he made the entrance the two smaller focus on the right, making sure to double up on the barrier on it, which had previously had no barrier at all. Likewise with the switch, the larger barrier on the left which was not the exit had no barrier at all, the opposite of how it had been before.

He also altered the sign from 1/2 into X 2, since he was now doubling the power instead of breaking it in half. The spells he sent into the two smaller focus would exit as one greater spell from the exit focus.

He repeated the same trigger, with the same wording, however attaching it in between the two small focus to set them both off, and worded it so that the activation would lower both the barriers on the pathway side and let out the magic to combine and exit freshly.

As he was finishing up his Glyphs, and about to do his Reimancy, Clyde noticed Elaine's question about his prior meeting with Noaru.

"I did tell you what happened prior during our meeting. He disrespected me, was rude for no reason, threatened to kill and injure me... He forced my hand, forced me to respond in self defense, with all he said and did and threatened, assuming I was weak and easy to mess with. Those are not things I take lightly, and not something I just forget and let go easily. Perhaps as a ghost he treated you differently, but not all ghosts are like you. Some are vicious to anything living, just for the fact of being alive. Which was how he acted on our last meeting. And I will not stand idly by while ghosts act as such to me, let alone here in Ravok."

Clyde began to exude his silvery res out of the palms of his hands, letting it float upward out of them in a twin stream.

"If he was to repent of his ways, and to genuinely be sorry for how he treated me... Perhaps... But I see no other way we could get along. And even then, I would be unsure if he did it only because he now knows my strength, which he assumed was abysmal as a 'human', or if he really meant it."

Clyde let out a sigh, looking at Elaine, who clearly wanted him to get along with this Noaru, but to whom he had few choices. Really, how else could he have acted? Did she think he should have just let him push him around? Did she think he should take his abuse? That did not seem right, even if he was dead.

"Alright, a few lightning bolts. I am going to get further back for these, when I transmute them. Lightning can be nasty."

He shaped them into twin spears of res, and slowly let them drift higher into the air, till it was well above his head. Then he raced past his earlier spot, even further than he had gone when letting her trigger the other scrolls, and turned back to face the res.

With a flick of his wrist the spears of res began to rush at the ground. He made a few finger twitches to fine tune the trajectory of the spears, making sure they would hit on their marks, the two smaller focus.

At the last moment he turned away, and shielded his gaze with his arm, then transmuted the res into lightning. There was a flash of light, a loud boom of sound that made his ears rings for awhile, and a burnt smell on the air would slowly waft about. However Clyde would have to assume the bolts had landed on their marks. In truth they had, targeting in on the two spots he wanted them to hit almost as if the small bolts of lightning had consciously chosen to aim at them and willed themselves into the Glyphs.

"When you are ready!" Clyde would shout this, a bit louder than needed really, as his ears were still ringing from the boom of lightning.

He would then move a bit further away from the scroll, finding a nice solid looking tree to put between himself and the scroll. He would then cover his ears, and close his eyes.

Elaine was watching the scroll and him as he was drawing those circles and x-es. Still she couldn't move on about how somebody could do this kind of thing. And how could anyone know what effect it will have. Magic was an interesting and odd thing for her but she was an odd thing too. A ghost who can do things like mortals. She hummed when Clyde told the same things to her. She even had a little laugh about it."HAH, like I was so gentle with you... I acted so aggressively and I was so stupid. "

But before she could continue Clyde was ready again. Everything was ready. She was checking the scroll for a while and tried to solve it. But she realized it's not for to solve it but to use it. The trigger was the same. She stood up and stepped back from it. Then she sighed, said the trigger and waited for the effect again."Filtering Fixtures! "

Ghosts and Glyphs[Elaine Spade]

Postby Clyde Sullins on July 21st, 2013, 2:30 am

Clyde smiled at Elaine's words, shaking his head.

"I wont deny our first meeting was a bit... Odd... I mean, you asked me to attack you with Reimancy... But, still, while you were a bit odd, you did not act as Noaru did, and you did not disrespect me."

But then Clyde had raced off, before Elaine had time to respond, after all he needed to take cover before the next spell was released. He had enough bad experiences with lightning, to know to be careful of it now.

He breathed in, breathed out, slowly calming himself and slowing his breathing as he waited for her to speak the word, to trigger the *BOOM*

Though Clyde was not looking this time, Elaine would see a single bolt of lightning come shooting straight up out of the focus, with the combined force of the two smaller handheld bolts. It lit up the air before them, Elaine might even feel a sizzle of static and heat across the surface of her soulmist on the side of her body facing the bolt, even from the distance away she "stood". More akin to a tingle than real pain, but likely a bit odd for a ghost, and perhaps a bit unpleasant for its invasive nature.

As the echoes of the boom of lightning finished reverberating in Clyde's ears, he stood up, to look at the spot were it had come from. All that was left was a scorched spot from the other spells, and the burnt ash that had been the scroll.

Clyde waved at Elaine, speaking a bit louder than he meant to, as his ears were still ringing.

"How was that! I think I have it down pat. Thanks for all your help with figuring out switches to do with this particular usage. And sorry if any of it got you a bit."

Clyde inhaled, tasting the burnt taste on the air as he neared were Elaine was.

"Did you want to ask me anything else? I know I explained the types of magic earlier... And what Glyphing did... Perhaps I could help clear anything else up. I do enjoy a good theoretical magical discussion or review."

Elaine was just staring again and her mouth was open as she was so suprised again. This plan succed for the first time now. It was amazing she has never seen something like that. Then The Silent Lady got easily distracted as the bolt was messing with her soulmist a bit. She was shocked for a bit and couldn't control her soulmist for a little time. It was like somebody was pinching her. As soon as the lighting bolt has gone the 'pitching' was over too.

She went closer to Clyde and was shouting to him while that."For the first time now! That Glyphing thing is really something. Don't worry only little nothings..." It was really nothing and afterall she could help and see amazing things. She was about to hug Clyde again but as she was moving her hands from her soulmist to him she saw a little flash. Immideatly she pulled her arms back as she didn't what happened. Maybe it was the remaining from the effect. She saw and was only smiling at Clyde.

"Hey... you think I'm able to learn magic too? If my soulmist is somekind of Djed then it can be used for it no? " She couldn't do a lot thing but she wanted to try these magic things. She was hoping she will be able to. So she could be his student too. She was looking at her arm and collected her soulmist around it. She materialized it as she could use it only for such a things like this. to give cold touches ad also to look more solid but trully for her no use of it.

Ghosts and Glyphs[Elaine Spade]

Postby Clyde Sullins on July 27th, 2013, 8:42 pm

Clyde smiled, and nodded at Elaine.

"I did say it was an experiment, you can't expect it to work the first time when trying something new. But it ended up working correctly, and I learned a few lessons on manufacturing similar scrolls for similar effects."

Especially the last one he had done, of combining the two lightning bolts into one blast. This was a much scaled down version of what he had in mind, and each of those single bolts had been on the small side. The ones he did for the final project would be much bigger, as big as he could possibly make them. And there would be about a dozen or so of those bolts at the max of his capability.

But at least now he had a decent notion of how to do it, and knew it would work in theory. As long as it scaled properly.

"But yes, Glyphing can do some amazing things, when you are skilled at doing it."

Her last question however left a puzzled expression on Clyde's face, as he pondered it. Could she? He honestly did not know that much of ghosts, of spirits, of how their powers worked... But...

"Elaine, I cannot say, I am not a master Spiritist, I am still new to that craft. There are people I am sure better able to answer such a question. But I would think it is not likely. After all, soulmist is not the same as the djed in a living person. You can do things I cannot as a living person, and I can do things you cannot. You might be better able to answer that question, as you know your own limits. I do not totally understand even what all you can do, and what you cannot, or what is possible when you are possessing someone. That especially confuses me. But really, why would you want to, when you can already do the things you can as a ghost?"

OOCSo sorry, That shall be my last post and we can open the new thread for this season

She was expecting that answer but she hoped for another. Being a ghost had its own advantages you could have. But many disadvantages as well in this unlife you had to deal with too. But she chose it not Clyde, not Dira, not anybody else. She just shook her head and answered.

"... You could also ask why I try to act like the living. Openning doors and walking and not go through it. Yes it would be easier but it's really remind me that I don't live actually. I'm dead, I'm really dead! I just want to do things as I could alive... I want to learn new things..." She was sad. It was a great day but she always had to meet her limits. She wanted to forget it and just quickly go back to Ravok and only remember this experience."Forget it. How about we go back?" She tried to mimic a smile on her face and she turned around to head back to Ravok.
