Illusionism and Auristics

Postby Crypt on August 9th, 2013, 5:20 pm

Alright, just a short question here. I am unsure of how the two interact with each other - the lore article on Illusionism states that it affects perception of reality i.e. The senses. The lore article for Auristics states that auras are perceived through the five senses if trained. So I think this would allow an illusion to fool the Aura reader. However, Auristics can be used to detect magic usage, and I believe Illusionism is counted as divine magic. So would the Aurist be unable to detect the aura of a person hidden with Illusionism, or would he be able to detect the use of divine magic?

Illusionism and Auristics

I believe this question was aske sometime ago, but I cannot find the thread right this second. Anyway I think it was decided that advanced autistic users could detect the use of illusion magic, but they would not be able to tell how it was used specifically. I would PM Fallacy because I am 90% sure he has heard this question before as well.

Illusionism and Auristics

I was of the understanding that Auristics cannot detect Divine magic. But since an Illusion acts on one of the senses at first level, wouldn't a good Auristics user be able to see past a false face by 'feeling' that it's different?

As in, unless the Illusion fooled ALL the senses, the aurist could see beneath the part of the illusion that isn't as well fortified.

This PC has the Blight gnosis. As such, you as a player need to be aware of what that consists of. Wrenmae has an invisible aura that amplifies sickness and disease. Wounds may become infected, small sneezes may become coughing, and a slight fever may become more serious. A nuit's body will also break down faster in the presence of the Blight. These effects may not be immediate, but within the few days following your encounter, the symptoms will manifest. Some sooner than others. I cannot control your character, so creativity will be left up to you. Best wishes and stay healthy!

Illusionism and Auristics

Postby Crypt on August 10th, 2013, 6:29 am

I've chanced on two posts here by using Google to search for the words 'Illusionism" and "Auristics", both by Eridanus:

http://www.mizahar.com/forums/post257710.html#p257710

http://www.mizahar.com/forums/post163842.html#p163842

I am unsure of what level of Illusionism it would take to fool Auristics though.

If I were to craft an illusion involving sight, would the person using Auristics to see auras be fooled by it?

Eridanus was not an expert in magic. A great deal of his writing misrepresented magic completely. I will say that outright since its commonly known among us mods.

Now, as stated before, Illusionism fools the senses. It warps reality so that the reality becomes what the illusionist wants it to be. Can that be detected with aurisitcs? I don't see how. Why? Because Auristics reads what the reality is.
