She could still hear them despite the fact she was in the woods a mile or so away from them. The travelers coming through by the Mirahil pass. It was early and the traders were hauling their cargo, their horses clip-clopping along the path carelessly. They were shouting to one another, making their plans for the day, and choosing their destinations to find a new shipment. Perhaps some were here for schooling, young sons and daughters using their parent's occupation as an excuse to arrive in Zeltiva. Maybe they were all really here exclusively for business. Either way, Kaie was there for neither reason.

She was supposed to be on her way to the Sea of Grass. At least that was the understanding she thought she had established with her guide, another trader. Apparently her basic level of Common had caused confusion between the two. He was simply on a trade route via a caravan to his usual haunts. How foolish had she been to even believe such a large, unfit barbarian was even capable of bringing her to such a hostile environment. She supposed that was simply what one gets when they're desperate to find a way home.

Nonetheless here she was, out in the only other place that made her feel remotely at peace. The forest. Bronzed hands were wrapped tightly about a low branch, and she was lifting herself from a hanging position until she could see over her own hands. The Myrian did a few more pull ups before moving on to crunches and push ups. She was training her body everyday. Maintaining her strength to maximize her results when she trained with her fists. Just because she wasn't in Taloba didn't mean she fell below clan standards.

Three push ups in and Kaie paused. She was halfway between the ground and an upright position when the uneasiness crept over her. Her muscles tensed, not because of the pressure, but because of sudden unease. She tossed her head back some to get her long brunette curls out of her vision. Brown eyes scanned the forest around her intensely, searching for the source of her unrest. Though nothing was caught, Kaie retired from her work out and stood. She glanced around, spinning in a circle once. Still nothing. The Myrian trusted her senses enough not to let it go.

"You. Come out," She said in her best Common to sound clear, minimizing her accent as best as she could. Gradually, Kaie began to second guess her own instincts. Was she paranoid or was someone really watching her?

How About A Friendly Spar? (Vyktoria)

Postby Vyktoria Rivor on August 16th, 2013, 2:55 am

Vyktoria rarely left the city, but the cramped streets from the all the traders was just too much. So she decided to venture out passed the city and travel down the well-worn roads. With her sketch book in tow, as usual, and slowly ambled down the road looking for a perfect spot for drawing. Finding a stump on the side of the road hidden from sight mostly, Vyktoria sits.
As she starts sketching she notices a noise. Curious as to what it is, she crouches and cautiously creeps toward the sound. She notices the female Myrian doing pull-ups, then crunches. As she changes to push-ups she stops, then looks around. After standing and taking a small spin for another look she calls out. "You. Come out."
Trying not to seem to shady and up to no good, Vyktoria cautiously comes from around the trunk she was hiding behind.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you or anything. I just heard a noise and came to investigate."

Ah! I knew someone was there! She thought to herself, taking pride in her own natural instincts and awareness. Of course that remained within her mind and didn't show upon her features. What could be seen was the sudden blankness of her expression upon seeing the woman. Kaie studied her carefully. Red haired woman with pale skin. And what was in her hands? The Myrian watched her curiously, staring at the sketchbook for a moment before flickering her gaze back to the barbarian's eyes again. She had been hiding behind a tree for Myri sake! The most cliche of hiding spots. She must've known she would get caught eventually, right?

Kaie blinked a few times upon hearing the Common. So many words. Of course she had studied the language a bit in Falyndar, but none had been native speakers. Sure she had spoken to plenty of barbarians since the year before but she hadn't quite gotten used to it. She was getting there but it would take her a few more seasons to perfect her understanding. For now, she simply stood there silently for several moments. Brow furrowed as she translated and then her lips pursed, trying to string together words to form a reply. When the right ones finally found her, her expression relaxed.

"I don't get scared easy," She started slowly and clearly, arching a brow as if mentally checking her own words. When they seemed correct she decided to continue. Though whatever she was about to say was lost the moment her eyes found the odd book again.

"What were you doing any way? With book? Draw?" Kaie questioned in a perplexed manner, staring at the bound paper. She had seen books and notebooks before. They had paper in Falyndar. They could read and write. Yet Kaie had a feeling she was not using her writing utensil to make words. There were too many pages that were untouched and not even ripped out. Was it a diary or some kind of drawing book? Whatever it was, they didn't do much of it back at home.

Vyktoria watches the woman in front of her, noticing that she keeps looking down at her bound sketchbook. She smiles politely waiting for a reply from the woman, she seemed to be having a little difficulty understanding her language. She must not be from Zeltiva. Maybe I should leave the city more often.
"I don't get scared easy."
After her reply, the woman again looks to Vyktoria's bound book.
"What were you doing any way? With book? Draw?"
Vyktoria smiles just a bit more. "Yes. I was just passed this tree sketching the wildlife." Vyktoria chuckles softly. "Would you like to see?"

She stared at the woman blankly with her brow still pulled tightly together. Listening. Gradually understanding. When the woman had finished her explanation, Kaie had only become more perplexed.

Sketch? What is it to sketch? Is that different from drawing and writing?

The Myrian simply nodded, gauging the smile as a friendly gesture. Then a soft laugh. An invitation to approach. Kaie took deliberate, confident steps toward the woman. Naturally she watched her the whole way through with distrust. Waiting for the woman to turn hostile. She knew better than to trust outsiders. If this woman struck, Kaie would return it in tenfold. When she was just a few feet from the red haired woman, she stopped. Waiting expectantly to be shown what a 'sketch' is.

The woman seemed to take her smile as friendly, as she had intended. As the woman approaches, taking slow deliberate steps, Vyktoria holds out the book in her hands. Opening it to a recent sketch. On the page is what looks like a bunch of randomly placed lines somehow forming a really rough picture of a tree and a wide meadow.
"See? Its kind of like drawing just rougher."
Vyktoria flips a page, showing another rough drawing, this time of two men fighting in what looks like the middle of the street.

Kaie turned her head when the pages began flipping. Each was a new picture. It wasn't carefully traced or shaped. Just scribbles, lines, and shading making up an object. They weren't bad at all, the pictures. Drawing but rougher?

"Draw. Sketch. They are all the same," The Myrian said, waving away the distinguishing factors that characterized the two styles. She shook her head and stared a bit longer at the last picture. The one of the men fighting in the street. That one stole her attention. Eyes narrowed again and she studied the image, words forming again within her head.

"Why draw? How does sketching help you survive?" Kaie said roughly, withdrawing from looking at the pages then. She looked right at the woman, trying to understand why she would waste her time with something like that. It was useless in her culture. A simple past time maybe, but a rare one. Why pick up one of those drawing things when one could instead swing a sword? It made no sense to her.

Vyktoria again chuckles softly at the woman's question.
"It was something my mother did, she told me it kept her mind clear." Smiling again, she softly closes the book and tucking it under her arm.
"It keeps me sane and calm. And maybe even a little more open-minded." She smiles again, trying to melt the distrust that seems to be coming from the woman.

She gave her a questioning look after the woman replied. So many words, but Kaie managed to keep up. It just took her several silent moments to herself to remember what they all meant. Drawing kept her family sane? Kaie shook her head in disbelief, trying to comprehend their way. One would think that a few months in the wrong part of the world would've made her accustomed to such differences. This one in particular only dumbfounded her. In Kaie's clan, sanity was stringing a decapitated Dhani from the trees of the Falyndar jungle. Mock battles with improvised weapons with the other children was always a stress killer to. It was surprising how she began to long for the screams of her trainers, Yitmah especially since she loathed him the most. How could views on sanity been so diverse?

Another smile. A sign of friendliness. Though all seemed okay at best, could she trust someone who put so much time into coloring paper? Were barbarians really that carefree? What was wrong with these people? The Myrian simply couldn't understand, much like she hadn't understood Syliras when she first arrived. Still, her questions remained unanswered. She need explanation and clarity.

"So you intent to fight with book? How do you defend self if spend all time sketching," She asked with added emphasis on the last word.

Vyktoria smiles again.
"I know how to fight, unarmed fighting mostly. I've not needed to use it recently. Not much excitement in Zeltiva right now." Still smiling, Vyktoria was curious about what the woman was thinking. And wondering why she was out here away from the city and the road. Vyktoria shifts her weight looking around for an indication as the woman's reason.
"Are you waiting for someone?"
