Home of the Konti people, this ivory city is built of native konti stone half in and half out of the sea. Its borders touch the Silverwood, and stretch upwards towards Silver Lake, home of the infamous konti vision water. [Lore]

Glyping and Auristics

L'orlei sat in her house, alone in her room, staring at her reflection in the mirror. In one hand was a quill, and she held the mirror in the other. An inkpot was sitting on the table. L'orlei took her time, considering exactly what she was doing. She needed to hone her skills, all of them, and that took practice. L'orlei so far had only glyphed scrolls, and poor ones at that, but she could also glyph herself. It was less dangerous, depending on the magic she used, and would help her focus.

She was planning to practice her auristics, a magic she was not nearly skilled enough in. She would read the aura of the mirror she was holding, but first she wanted to glyph herself to provide extra focus. She wanted to try using a sense other than sight. She knew all five senses could be used, even by beginners. What was truly challenging about auristics was reading deeper into the aruas, and reading multiple ones, but the five senses were a skill that could be mastered early on. She planned to practice both sight and smell.

But first the glyphs. Moving carefully, slowly, L'orlei began to draw out the focus. She was going to keep it simple. For her scrolls she tried to be more elaborate, which at her level probably actually made them worse, but L'orlei could be more basic with the sigil used on herself, especially since she had less space. She drew it between her eyes.

In her lesson with Clyde, L'orlei had learned that her original method of glyphing was rather flawed. The focus glyph she was using made little sense, even to her, when she thought about it more. The focus needed to make sense.. and since L'orlei was going to use a magic that allowed her to see, she drew out a glyph that resembled an eye, though without a pupil and only in the shape of it. It was very simple, but she did not need to be complex. It was meant to aid her in focusing her magic, but was not meant to contain it completely.

Glyping and Auristics

Once the eye was drawn between her eyes, L'orlei sat back and studied herself in the mirror once more. It was certainly not perfect, but it would do. L'orlei had not realized how difficult it could be to draw while looking at one's own reflection. Everything was the opposite!

The Konti took a moment to consider what she needed to do next. Most sigils required a focus, a barrier, and a trigger, but L'orlei was not making a complete sigil. She was only using the glyphs to help control her magic, but they did not need any specific trigger. After a moment, she decided that a barrier was the only other thing she needed. The barrier would be used to help focus the magic only around the two areas she needed it, her eyes for sight, and her nose for smell.

It was going to look kind of funny, but luckily she was in private, and she could always clean up afterwards. L'orlei dipped her quill then carefully brought it to her forehead, drawing out a small glyph shaped vaguely like a winged serpent.. right below her actual gnosis mark, which was a winged serpent. Though she was not using her healing gnosis, the vague duplicate of the gnosis made sense to her. All magic was dangerous, and with Rak'keli as part of the barrier, her health would be kept safe. To the left of the serpent she drew a trident, for Laviku, and to the right she drew a flower which was supposed to look like a lily, for Avalis. The three gods she respected most. On the far left and right, she drew a glyph that looked like a wave, and after that, a shell, completing her barrier pattern. Following this pattern, she drew the barrier around her eyes, beneath her eyes, and back up to complete the circle. Satisfied with her work, amateur and strange looking though it may have been, L'orlei sat back once more.

The Glyphing :
Here is an example of what her glyphing would look like. I used random clip art stuff to make it, but his is basically it:
