Sei chewed his lip, and stepped into the fighter pit with a furrowed brow. He was never a good teacher, and Roderick had labelled him a drill sergeant. He tried to be less intimidating, but it usually never worked. He pondered this, and ran his fingers through his hair. He looked around, and found a nice place to sit. He sat in the dirt directly under the suns rays. The heat felt good on his back, especially since today was cool, and every breeze sent shivers down his spine.

He was still thinking about yesterday. A boy, Rhys, had come to him to learn. At first, he had thought Rhys was joking, and when Rhys never laughed, Sei thought the boy was nuts. No one except the challengers at the pit had ever asked to learn anything from him, mainly because he had second to no teaching experience. He had agreed, but he was having more doubt that he had agreed. He had to try now that he was here, however, so he buckled down and focused.

He sat there, immersed in his thoughts, and tried to think of an easy way to teach the man. Accroding to what he remembered, Rhys wanted to learn four things, and Sei had had no problem with agreeing before he could think. He would teach him the basic stances for combat and brawling, and hopefully the rest would be easy. He would show him basic tactics, and the best ways to intimidate those around him.

Sei couldn't wait to get this over with.

[Anthonius Fighter Pit] Trying To Teach(Rhys)

The view of Syliras did absolutely nothing to ease tension. The pit before him was tight and intimidating, and the fighter inside moreso. He looked strong, very much so. But he wasn't pleased. He looked annoyed. He looked... He looked like he wanted a fight. A real one.

Rhys, standing on the precipice of the pit, dropped his satchel at his feet. He removed his jacket, and dropped that, as well. He sprung from the edge of the pit, landing close to center. Staring at the fighter, he panned his head left and right quickly, stretching his neck.

He was terrified. His heart was pounding, his palms were sweating, his teeth were clenched. He made a tremendous effort to hide his nervous demeanor.

"Let's do this, Fighter." He yelled out to the man. "I'm ready, and I'm ready now."

He didn't regret his words, although he did fear the response that the fighter would take.

He really did.

Sei groaned and stood, watching the man take his position, and waited until he was ready. He looked at the ground, and finally back at him. He smiled a bit, switched to a smirk, and then into an hysterical laugh. He pointed at Rhys's shoulders first; speaking with a mock. "No way! Keep you shoulders inline with your neckline." He laughed, then pointed at his legs. "Your feet! Try and keep them six inches apart." he said, summoning a tone and face of seriousness.

He demonstrated his stance.

[Anthonius Fighter Pit] Trying To Teach(Rhys)

Postby Rhys Blodwen on September 23rd, 2013, 11:15 pm

He waited, fists in the air, curled and ready, until the bulky man stood with a grunt. Rhys wasn't an expert on... People. He hadn't often spoke to anyone, save his mother and the people she traveled with. All of whom tried to avoid Rhys as much as possible. He, admittedly, wasn't very skilled with people.

So, then, what did that grunt mean? Was he disappointed in Rhys, or was the noise just natural?

The insecurities of his social knowledge worried him, yet he kept a straight face through it all, hiding his anxiety thoroughly.

The fighter looked down at Rhys' feet. The fighter, again, confused Rhys. He didn't even try to hide his confusion, this time. The experience was new and alien, and even his trained deadpan couldn't hide the swirling confusion that the fighter stirred.

He seemed amused.

"No way!"

It was apparent why. Rhys was all-too new at this. He'd never gotten into a fight, and he certainly had never spoken to anyone experienced in malicious arts. Yet he felt compelled to learn SOMETHING. He didn't know much about the city, and decided that it was safer to presume it dangerous than to presume it tranquil. And so he came to the fighter that stood before him, gawking in amusement at Rhys' amateur stance.

"Keep your shoulders inline with your neckline." He stated.

Huh. Helpful.

Then he, yet again, erupted in laughter. The fighter pointed at Rhys' feet, bellowing instructions to keep them apart. This wasn't funny to Rhys. He was trying, he was. He wanted to appear as if he had some knowledge, but he really didn't.

He demonstrated, and Rhys copied. Simple.

He didn't have anything to say to the fighter, so he watched. And he waited.

Sei laughed a bit more, and charged the man. Let's see what you can do. He thought, slowing a bit, he lightened his step, and threw a slow punch at the mans face. He went a bit faster and turned a slight circle and kicked at Rhyss's shoulder. He observed the tension in Rhyss's muscles, and jumped back, only to leap forward again with a headbutt, hoping to test Rhyss's reflexive awareness. He waited for a reaction, and watched the man carefully.

Either he was a great loser, or a great fighter. There was no in-between.

[Anthonius Fighter Pit] Trying To Teach(Rhys)

He laughed again.

What did that mean!?

Without warning, the fighter charged. Rhys didn't expect the attack, and instinctively flinched, taking a step back. The instinct seemed to have been lucky, for the fighter slowed, and hit air.

Rhys was feeling pretty confident about himself, now. He had no idea that fighting would be so simple! This was... This was great! Emotion swelled up in Rhys. He had done well.

But not well enough.

Whilst he was celebrating, the fighter spun, and delivered a sharp kick to the shoulder. Rhys didn't expect the blow, much like he didn't expect the charge, but he was unprepared and distracted. The blow sent him back a foot.

He shook off the pain, getting back in his stance. He looked up just in time to see the man charging, yet again. This time, Rhys not only waited for the man to run past him, but brought up his knee when he did, hoping to connect with the chest.

Afterwards, he brought down his fore arm, aiming for anything that would connect. Rhys was getting desperate for a hit.

Sei gained a slight smirk after his kick connected to the mans shoulder, knocking him back about a foot. He was happy that Rhys was celebrating his accomplishment, but that would get him killed in a death-match. He leaped for another charge, and was almost caught by surprise when Rhys shot his knee up for Sei's chest.

He moved his hand swiftly, cupping it to catch the knee and dull the blow. He was, however, caught of gaurd when the mans' elbow crushed into his back. He felt a slight sting, and jumped back. He rolled his shoulders, smirked, and charged Rhys with full intent. He his knee to Rhys's chest, and went in for a headbutt.

"Don't focus on wether your attack lands. If you do, you'll leave yourself open to attacks." He said, trying to voice his explanations the best he could.

[Anthonius Fighter Pit] Trying To Teach(Rhys)

The fighter had caught his knee, but hadn't anticipated a second blow. As Rhys' elbow thundered down upon the spine of the muscled combatant, Rhys felt a surge of undeniable joy. He watched in joy as the fighter stumbled after the impact. He grinned at the man's pain, taking pride in his pain. The sensation was unusual to Rhys; he wasn't used to feeling joy at the expense of another. But it was joy all the same, and wondrous joy at that! A magnificent, wondrous, exciting-

The grin was quickly and effectively wiped off of the human's face. Once again blinded by excitement, the fighter had gotten the best of Rhys. While he was celebrating, the fighter had charged at him.

In a blink, the fighter's knee was on his chest. Rhys gasped for air, but couldn't seem to find any. Rhys backed against the edge of the pit behind him, still struggling to breathe. As he was doing so, the fighter, merciless as ever, attacked again, slamming his skull against that of Rhys'.

Rhys struggled to keep his eyes open after the hit. The impact felt as if it collapsed the bone in his head. On the bright side, he could breath!

"Don't focus on whether your attack lands. If you do, you'll leave yourself open to attacks." The fighter said, although the dialogue was barely audible. Rhys began heaving out oxygen, as if it were a challenge to breath.

Slowly, he pushed himself off the wall, and stood on his own. He had to keep fighting. The struggle to breath had begun to fade, but the struggle to focus had not. He, everso slowly, got back in his stance. Still struggling with his lungs, the human threw a half-hearted fist at the fighter. Pain erupted in the right side of his chest as he did so, resulting in a grunt to stifle a pain-driven scream. Pulling his fist in didn't help the pain, however, but magnified it. His muscles, now loosened, gave the pain an opportunity to expand. It was harder to keep the pain silent, now. He hoped the fighter wouldn't go farther than this. Rhys might not be able to bear it.

Sei Tendo

Sei took in the fight, observing his opponents moves for openings. He watched as his first punch knocked the air from Rhys' lungs. His opponenet backed away, and forced himself to breath. When he and Rhys' skull made contact, he felt the sting, but backed away. He gave Rhys' a smirk, and watched as he attempted to punch, but quickly withdrew, making a soft grunt that sounded painful.

Sei backed away, and held up his hand to signal Rhys' to stop. "Take three deep breathes and swallow. I'm not going to fight you if you can handle a spar between two novices." He coaxed. He let out a sigh, and turned away from Rhys. "When you calm down give me a shout so I can start your training." He said.

He sat crosslegged on the ground, and faced Rhys.

[Anthonius Fighter Pit] Trying To Teach(Rhys)

Postby Rhys Blodwen on October 23rd, 2013, 10:30 am

The throw hurt for only a second, and only that. After which, it faded into near non-existence, lingering as an easily-ignored bruise. Did his ribs hurt? Yes, they did. Undeniably. But was it crippling? Certainly not. It was a mere thorn in his side, the pain amounting to nothing more than a bee sting.

The fighter, however, assumed the pain in a different measure.

He backed to the center of the pit, holding up one of his dirty, muscled arms. Rhys didn't know what the gesture meant, but had to assume it was a signal. Seeing as the fighter had stopped, Rhys had to further assumed the hand warranted a halt.

But why?

"Take three deep breaths and swallow." The fighter instructed

A strange order. Rhys thought

"I'm not going to fight you if you can't handle a spar between two novices."

The fighter thought him injured!

The pain could certainly be dealt with, it hurt much less now than it did not three chimes ago. However, the fighter was a professional and probably dealt with injuries often. That, and Rhys was still eager to learn from the man. He was convinced that because Syliras was so very large, it held many dangers.

He was also convinced that the man in the center of the pit potentially WAS one of those dangers.

So it made sense to do exactly what he commanded.

Rhys, dropping his stance and beginning to breathe, could barely hear the fighter speak.

"When you calm down give me a shout so I can begin your training." He said, now sitting cross-legged on the ground.

The second Rhys had finished the last portion of the command, gulping down a mouth full of saliva, oxygen, and blood, he prepared himself once more, the determination on which he prided himself had returned to his eye. He shook his head violently, flinging the sweat off his face like a dog. He got back in his stance.

"I'm ready." Rhys growled, tightening his fists.

Damned right, he was ready! Rhys adopted a whole new vigor, and he was ready. The pain was still there, but petch the pain! Rhys wanted to fight.
