Anna sat cross-legged in her little spot in the bowels of the Saga Shooter, her breathing controlled and steady. She was preparing to undertake a task she had put off for far too long, the learning of a relatively basic skill as far as magic went. Really she should have done this while in Zeltiva, however it hadn't seemed right to do so as she had possessed a number of affairs she'd needed to get in in order before leaving. So there had been literally no time to try and learn how to Shield. Luckily she had plenty of time to make up for that and more, especially true because the wizard knew a bit about how to actually trigger Shielding initially.

Ricky Maze had been so kind as to provide information as to how to properly Shield, the feelings of protective emotions. Anna knew that the mechanics behind it likely involved transferring Djed in a certain form over an object, at least that was the theory she had gained from watching him Shield a piece of parchment. Anna grinned slightly as she remembered destroying the weak thing with barely any effort on her part, just a sign of how very powerful she was growing. It wouldn't be long until none would be able to match her power, soon the inner secrets of the Arcane would be hers.

First things first though, to actually activate the power required focus on a singular concept. Anna held a single golden Miza in her hands, ready to be the subject of her shielding attempt. She continued to cycle her breathing, focusing her emotions into a singular state and searching for a particularly strong protective urge. The answer of course led her to her parent's deaths, stolen from her by Vayt. Velia had held her so tightly when tears had streaked down her face, Anna had returned the embrace.

Ironically enough she had felt protective of her friend more than ever at that moment, she was all Anna had left. She'd made a silent vow to keep Velia safe, believing her reimancy to be a match for any that would dare to try and harm her friend. Of course, then the sick truth was that Anna herself was the one to break the vow by shattering her friend's dreams. Still the feeling had been real and that was what Anna focused upon, the desire to protect that which had once been precious to her.

She focused the feeling on the Miza, feeling her Djed fluctuate as she did. Anna focused on the Djed next, willing it to move towards her hands as directed by the emotion. The wizard could feel something coming and was thus very disappointed when translucent fluid exited her hands through her pores. Yet another instance when she had gotten her wires crossed, another annoyance.

The wizard sighed and drew the res back inside of her, feeling the slight drain it had caused upon her Djed be relieved. With this accomplished she focused upon the feeling once more, trying to get this right. Reimancy was an extremely powerful destructive force, occasionally it could be used for defensive needs but it was a very offense oriented magic. Voiding was purely destructive, consuming all that it could into an empty black nothingness.

Shielding was really her first attempt at a non-offensive personal magic. It was thus more difficult because her goal here was to create rather than to destroy. Destruction was easy, Anna could wave her hand and generate enough power to destroy a house. Creation took a bit more patience as the young wizard was quickly learning.

The emotion became more concrete and controlled, focused once more towards the single Miza in her hands. Again she moved Djed beneath her hands, willing it outwards with the goal of creation rather than destruction. Protection, to make something safe from harm.

Thin strands of pure Djed snaked out from her hands and wrapped around the Miza, sheathing it in a glowing purple sheen. The young wizard felt triumph resound through her mind, which immediately caused her to lose focus and the strands to simply shatter. Anna's emotions did a complete 180, going from pleased and triumphant to angry and highly displeased.

She glared at the partially shielded Miza, which shimmered in her fingers for a moment before dying down. After a few ticks of glaring at the inanimate object the wizard sighed in disgust and decided to try again, the drain upon her noticeable for the relatively simple appearing action. This was likely going to take a little while.

[SO-Sylira] Protection

Anna began to cycle her breath once more, trying to calm her rather annoyed mood. Magic was not an easy thing, she of all people knew of this and accepted that simple truth. Power came to those with patience, the wizard was patient and willing to undergo trial and error. If she had created it once then she could do it again, and again, and again if need be. She was going to get this right though, at least until the threat of overgiving started playing at her spirit.

She identified the protective urges, willing them to encompass her mind as best she was able. Each breath taken steadied her and allowed the protective and safe thought to gain relative control, as well as prominence in her mind. Meditation was a soothing process, giving focus and some semblance of control over the normally chaotic mass of thoughts that was her mind. Normally chaos was her preferred state of mind, however the chaos needed direction to be truly effective.

Anna let out a sigh of contentment as her mind found its calming equilibrium. The necessary emotions were there, now perhaps it would be best to aid this regained focus with incantations. Surely Shielding, like all personal magic, could benefit from them. Though Anna doubted that manifesting the strands would be as easy as all that, even with focus this was a new discipline she was attempting. There were bound to be stumbling blocks just as there were for Voiding.

The wizard's eyes were locked upon the golden miza held in her fingers, her focus of emotions on it specifically. The words in the Ancient Tongue fell from her lips evenly and in controlled intervals, each syllable being spoken in the same time lapse. Translated roughly Anna's meaning was 'To tie together-that which is imperfect', considering the strands of Djed that had appeared from her hands earlier the wizard found it appropriate.

As she twisted and turned the miza in her fingers, Anna noticed that whenever she touched the small area her earlier strands had wrapped around it seemed to send tingles up her hands. It was still there, the part she had actually shielded however Anna had to wonder how long it would remain in there. Would it simply vanish if left alone? It was something to think on and perhaps experiment with later down the line, when she could actually make a decent shield of course.

Feeling that now was the time Anna slowly and carefully focused her Djed to her hands, the protective emotions still swimming in her mind. With a focused and set mind the wizard willed the Djed to move outwards, to envelop the miza in her hands in a cocoon of safety. At first, much like Voiding, nothing happened. However the woman continued to simply focus upon the feelings being projected upon the miza, willing her Djed outwards. Patience was the best virtue to follow here.

Finally after a chime or two the thin strands of purple threads extended from her hands, which Anna wasted no time setting to work. The strands of pure Djed were worked carefully by her hands, her focus kept and the incantations still spilling from her lips as she worked. There was no real rhyme or pattern to how Anna layered the strands of Djed onto the Miza, she was simply threading them out onto it as they came.

The drain upon her was rather taxing but the wizard continued, determined to get this right. More and more strands of purple energy were layered upon one another, rather like one would create a ball of yarn. The miza was so small and yet it was sapping up so much of her energy that it was ridiculous. It was just like Voiding in that respect.

Finally Anna simply broke her focus, stopping the incantations as she did so that she could examine her work. It was also due to the fact that she was feeling the urge start to swim under her mind, which she noted was no where near as strong here as with reimancy. Anna certainly felt weary for the exercise but she was eager to view the fruits of her labor.

The results were rather... underwhelming to say the least. The miza shimmered purple as she touched it, moving it this way and that in the candle light. The pattern appeared tangle and messy and she could see spots were there were no strands at all to guard the miza. The wizard locked her jaw as she noted imperfection after imperfection, each flaw more glaring and obvious than the last. It was her first time but in the woman's mind that alone was no excuse.

With a heavy sigh she silently weighed the odds of her being able to go again, to try and fix the errors and at least get a full shield around this. The urge was weak, barely a whisper in the back of her skull. Her nose was not bleeding, indicating that she could still likely get away with just a little bit more. So she nodded to herself, beginning to cycle her breathing once more. A newly initiated she might be, but Annalisa Marin was not one for leaving tasks half finished.

Anna closed her eyes once more, her breathing slowing and her quickened heart rate gradually falling from its pace. Casting tended to make her feel as though she had just finished some great physical exercise, though sense she was literally sacrificing her very energy to fuel her magic perhaps that was not such a far off thought. Regardless it made this meditation even more necessary, mistakes with any magic were dangerous. The last thing she wanted was too make one with this new discipline, the uncharted territory looked safe enough but with magic there were few things ever truly 'safe'.

It just occurred to the woman as she was meditating that Shielding was pretty much the opposite of Voiding. While the discipline of Voiding was all about destruction Shielding was about protection and creation, Anna wasn't sure how to feel about that. Was it safe to practice two opposing magic's? Would excelling in one make her ability to practice the other more difficult? It was interesting conjecture and perhaps something to follow up on, at least when she was comfortable enough with both that she didn't have to worry about her control shattering in an instant.

With that though filed away Anna's breathing became much more controlled and measured, still faster than it had been previously but considering her casting so far that was to be expected. The waves of exhaustion were starting to fall upon her shoulders, providing a rather annoying distraction as she attempted to keep focus. This was going to make concentration a little more difficult.

Her cycled breathing, one deep breath taken in through her nose and released out her mouth slowly was calming things somewhat. She listened to the sound of her own breathing at first, allowing it to calm her down. She needed to gain some clarity in her mind before trying to gather her necessary emotions to try this one last time, she couldn't afford to lose her connection like the first time. No, she needed to keep control as long as possible to complete this little challenge.

After a few chimes her weariness was lessened, not forgotten but felt less that it had been before. Her mind was slowly beginning to calm down from its tired feelings, focus slowing coming to her once more. Anna allowed a grin to crease her features for a moment, a thought occurring to her that was actually fairly amusing to her.

Before, she had thought of meditation as being just a load of spiritual shyke that possessed no real practical value to a wizard. How wrong she had been back then, wrong about so many things now that she had a brief moment's reflection. She had been too overt about most everything, subtle not being a word in her practiced vocabulary. Her passion had been allowed to rule every aspect of her life, a mistake if ever there was one.

Passion was a good thing, however the wizard now knew that it needed to be curbed with reason and intelligent thought. Words needed to be thought on before leaving her lips, emotions double checked. Power without control was a chain, not a path to the freedom Rhysol granted. So, after her mind had been ravaged by overgiving last season Anna had returned from it wiser.

She pushed the thoughts aside as she reached the point in her meditation where she focused upon protective feelings and emotions, her grey eyes still closed. Anna wanted this to be the last time today that she needed to call upon this power, she already had a decent amount of information on it to record. She wouldn't be in much shape to record it if she wasn't extremely careful, enough to avoid taking too much. Just enough for a completed product. Something to actually observe. With the feelings in mind her incantations started up.

"Korad-Radjud"

"Korad-Radjud"

The incantations sharpened her focus as a whetstone would a blade, giving her mind clarity. Anna could feel with each syllable she was more and more ready to make her last attempt at this, her fingers already prepared to fill in the holes. A complete product, that was all she needed. Nothing fancy just something to plug up the holes.

The wizard slowly focused her Djed back to her hands, willing it to form the purple strands of pure energy. As before nothing happened at first, it took a few chimes for anything to occur. After that time the strands started to form, but Anna noted that they felt more rough and that she was actually almost having to force them out. That was curious, very different than other disciplines she had experience with.

With reimancy, res generation was easy even when it was drifting into overgiving territory. It was as though the discipline was made so that even someone near their end could continue to dish out untold destruction. Voiding was constantly sapping at her strength, no matter how near the edge she reached the portal never hesitated to take more. Shielding was now rough as she sacrificed more Djed and approached her limits. Why was that?

Anna weaved the purple strands slowly, feeling that of she wasn't careful and gentle that they might indeed snap. They felt so fragile and it might have been her imagination but the more she wrapped and weaved the thinner and thinner they seemed to get, it was more than a little perplexing to her how Shielding reacted to her losing Djed. Carefully she continued onwards, her focus nearly breaking on several instances.

Finally it appeared that either her focus was severed or something else happened because as she attempted another weave the strands simple snapped. Anna quickly halted any movement of Djed, her body weary and tired from her exertions. Her tense shoulders fell slack and a familiar dribble of blood was making its way slowly down her right nostril. She stared at the miza, turning it slow to look for holes.

Anna was pleased and displeased by the results of her examinations, there were not holes exactly, however it was obvious to her that some areas of the shield were far, far weaker than others. It looked ugly and lopsided, rough and grotesque. However it was still technically a shield, so the wizard was willing to call it at this.

Slowly Anna got to her feet, miza in hand and started towards her cot. Already she was drawn in by the nature of this strange and foreign magic, how relatively easy it was to pick up yet how difficult it was to understand. It was certainly a marked difference from her beloved reimancy, though how much more would take further experimentation. Hopefully she'd be able to make better shields that her current one, as she doubted it was going to win many awards for even effort.

Truth Hidden by a Mirage :
Great solo! Lol I didn't think Shielding would be that intense, even if you have low skill, but nothing in the lore says whether or not it will give you a nosebleed or not so good job! I liked it. Shielding is one of those magics that is almost useless at low levels, but when you gain higher levels it can become something very powerful ^.^ PM me if you have any questions!
