"There's more of them this time. You're ready aren't you?"
"Yes. I am ready," She reassured Quinn with a stern nod of her head. The concerned look in his eyes did not dissipate. It remained like the embers of a fire lit long ago after the camp had been picked up and moved elsewhere. He had a right to be shaken up, too. Thus far they had raided camps of few numbers. Never more than five. This camp had about twelve. Trent was sure to bring more men for this one.
Nestled down below the rocky slopes of the Sylira mountains laid a merchant caravan. One with the sense to have hired guards. Kaie was familiar with such men. They were no different than the ones she had slain with Razkar's team of mercenaries out by the Kabrin road. Those were slavers, though. They had been men of no morals. Only greed. Even as the Myrian was converting to a murderer and a thief, a marauder, she viewed herself above them. The men she was tasked with killing tonight were not protecting the same merchandise. They were not carting people. Only things. Materials goods probably headed to Nyka. She could not pause to ponder if their morals were steadier than the men she compared them to. Regardless of their ideas, she would have to kill them. She would have to try.
"Alright. Here's the plan. Dammit, boy! Are you listening to me?" Trent hissed quietly from their hiding place in the cliffs, hitting a new guy in the back of the head for gazing off into the night. He was right to. They needed to petching focus now.
"This is what we're going to do. Quinn, Earl, and Mark will travel down the east of the mountain and to their backs. Peter, Ollie, and Ron. You three head west to cut off the clear run to the river. Kaie, Fen, and I will climb down and attack from the front. Keep it locked down tight and do you jobs, and we'll have then pinned against the rocks. Got it?"
Everyone nodded slowly, staring down into the dirt at the diagram their leader had mapped in the sparse dirt with his fingers. Kaie bit her lip at it, glancing from the blue print to the real thing below. She could see the lights on inside some of the tents. Only an hour before she saw some of the guards prowling. A couple actually seemed capable of really handling themselves. The odds were almost even. Too even.
"Well they're in their tents for the most part, right? And we have a couple guys who can fire a bow," She started slowly, eyes narrowing in thought. Distant she was as she envisioned the outcome of whatever was happening in her mind.
"It was a yes or no question, Kaie. I'm not debating strategy with you."
"Look, all I'm saying is we have an advantage. If we can shoot arrows at the tents and set them on fire, they're run right into our sights like ants. That way we can just start picking them off from a distance before everyone else goes rushing in," She explained tensely, feeling Trent's anger beginning to boil beside her in the darkness. Needless to say, it wasn't a welcoming vibe.
