It all came back to this. It always seemed to come back to this, to the Void and the newest power granted to her. She needed to understand it, to actually possess real power over the bridging of two dimensions. Small portals were fine and well, but unless she actually new her current limits in terms of how large she could make a portal than she wasn't going to advance.

Annalisa Marin was currently sitting in her chair at the small side table granted to her, alone with only candle light to illuminate her. Her grey eyes flicker in the light, seemingly she was deep in introspection and thought. She knew what she wanted to do today, to test the limits of her control over the Void as well as experiment with just how powerful it could currently be at this point. It was a daunting exercise, especially when simply creating a Portal was difficult at this stage. However Anna had faith that it was very doable, hopefully without the threat of overgiving looming over her head.

For now she wasn't going to cast anything, not until the plan of action was solid and firmly grounded. The first thing she wanted to do was to actually test the Portal to see if it would move if she directed it to do so. The next experiment would revolve around Pull and giving it actual direction rather than making it Omni-directional. The initial experiments before actually expanding on the Portal itself would be kept to small sized Portals, as it would minimize the drain upon her Djed.

The really difficult part would be actually expanding upon the portal itself and keeping it stable. It would like sap quite a bit of Djed from her, as the drain upon Djed was directly proportional to the size of the Portal. The additional factors, such as Pull added more towards the overall drain. Anna was hoping to minimalize the drain by simply cutting off how much Pull she added, which was another reason for the idea of giving the force a direction. The other being that she would much rather NOT end up Voiding herself when she could finally handle larger Portals.

The wizard finally nodded, satisfied with her current plan of action and ready to actually get down to the actual business of casting. She leaned further back in her chair and closed her eyes, beginning to cycle her breathing. Meditation often helped in the process of personal magic use, the most obvious use being that it helped to sharpen one's overall focus upon the task at hand. Voiding required much of her focus, just generating a portal was quite the task in and of itself.

As always Anna took deep breaths in through her nose and released them out through her mouth, slowly so as to control the flow and intake of air into her lungs. Focusing on the act of breathing seemed a trivial thing, however it greatly assisted in clearing one's mind as measuring each breath diverted attention away from distracting thoughts. The automatic responses of the body, and their continued function, relied on actively thinking about carrying them out.

Soon enough she could feel the clutter begin to disappear as her mind was slowly emptied of less than important thoughts, things that would distract from the act of casting. Personal magic was something of an exercise of the spirit, it required inner strength and tranquility and was more about personal limitations rather than complex theories and equations. World Magic was thus rather inferior, in Anna's mind. The realm of World Magic would always have its limits, things that it simply couldn't do no matter how much the mage wanted. In the end it was rather static, no matter how far a master wanted to stretch its boundaries they were limited by resources and the nature of their science. Personal Magic lacked those limits, if one wanted to keep going they could. It was always organic, ever changing and ever evolving with the user. In using this magic, one learned more about the self and just how powerful they could become.

Anna finished her meditations, her grey eyes opening and her right hand stretching out before her. Her fingers were curled upwards and the wizard's focus was upon a space above her palm, staring at apparently nothing for the longest time. First things first, the incantations.

"Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla."

"Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla."

"Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla."

Anna repeated the phrase over and over, the intervals of pause controlled and seemingly synchronized. Her eyes were still locked upon that one space in the air above her palm, the flickering candle light casting the shadows of her fingers upon the spot. It contributed to what she wanted, rather than taking away or obscuring it. What she wanted to create was darkness in its purest form, a place where light entered only to be swallowed up.

"Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla."

"Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla."

"Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla."

Anna willed her Djed to move under her hand, the vital energy being the key to actually bridging This Side to The Other Side. As soon as it was gathered the wizard willed the energy upwards, commanding it to empty out the directed space. At first nothing happened, which was better than having accidently generated res. It took patience, she needed to simply let the magic do its work and keep her focus.

After about forty ticks Anna felt a surge of Djed leaving her and being absorbed by a tiny black dot that formed above her hand. Quickly she fed the new born Portal more of her Djed, willing it to expand until it was about the size of a fingernail. She needed it to be small at first for her initial research, she Djed expenditure needed to be kept to a minimum. The wizard let out a relieved sigh and prepared herself for the next phase of the experiment.

Portals to the Void took constant maintenance, require a steady flow of Djed into them to keep the manifested upon this world. Cutting off the flow would cause the Portal to eventually starve and die out, flickering out of existence with barely any assistance from the wizard in question. By comparison reimancy was simple, each spell was a burst of Djed being drained. Controlling the res was hardly much of an effort, generation, transmutation, and attraction were the ones that detracted quickly from one's reserves. The trick was not generating more than you could give, which was difficult as the urge to cast in reimancy was nearly irresistible.

Anna continued to feed Djed into her tiny Portal, making very certain to keep the construct as stable as she possibly could. As it was many times it was like trying to fit the ocean into a thimble that kept on draining, it was rather ridiculous that so small a thing could tire her out so much. The urge was of course swimming beneath her conscious mind, always there and waiting for the opportune moment to strike.

"Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla."

"Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla."

"Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla."

She kept her focus, her incantations paving the way of holding control over the tiny vortex of pure darkness. Losing control like this would reflect horribly on her, she was nearly at the heights of power as far as reimancy was concerned. For all intents and purposes Anna was a professional wizard, so giving into the urge when the casting was so small was unacceptable. She controlled her magic, it did not rule her. Rhysol was the only one who truly ruled her.

Once she was pleased with its stability Anna placed her right hand above the black vortex, both of her arms nor occupied with the tiny Portal. It was time for her to test exactly how difficult it was to move the thing from its existing position. Considering that she had actually never done anything like this before Anna expected some difficulties to be found here. However she was confident that she would be able to keep her focus throughout.

As she kept her focus upon feeding the Portal her Djed Anna sent out a command, willing for the Portal to move slightly to the left. Nothing happened, though that wasn't exactly a surprise to the wizard. Voiding was requiring much more patience and dedication that reimancy had, so it was likely that all she needed to do was give it time or perhaps try a different approach.

Ticks passed, which soon turned into a chime, which turned into a half chime. Still, no matter how many variations of commanding the Portal to move to the left she tried nothing happened. At one point she thought she might have seen it move, however it was quickly found out to be a trick of the flickering candle nearby. The Portal simply refused to move according to her direction, at one point she had even tried to feed it more Djed than before but that hadn't done anything either.

The wizard was displeased, not only that she was beginning to feel the weight of this casting upon her as she was forced to feed more and more of her vital energy to the Void but it was looking like she might have bitten off more than she was ready for. Still, this was not a complete waste. It was informing her of her current limits if nothing else, which was going to be helpful going forward. Still, the bitter taste of failure salted her tongue as she stopped try to send the Portal commands.

So moving a Portal was still outside of her reach, however it was still a possibility that if she worked hard enough at the art then she could try again. So she set aside this experiment as not exactly a failure but more as a work in progress. Eventually she would try again, but for now she had other things to worry about. Other things to experiment with.

Anna could feel the urge pushing at her mind more strongly, willing her to continue to cast. It wasn't like she had much of a choice in that department, in order to keep things going Anna needed to keep the portal open. However she did resist anything tempting her to go beyond the size of her already manifested Portal. Nothing good would come from expanding it just yet, now she needed to focus on her other experiment first.

More Djed was fed to the tiny bridge between This Side and The Other Side, stabilizing it and preparing her a little more for the act of needing to place Pull upon the Portal. Her experiment wasn't over just yet, no she still had a number of things to try and discover.

The small vortex of darkness shifted in her vision, reaching out with shadowy peripheral region to try and absorb all that surrounded it. Anna could respect that kind of endless hunger, the desire to simply destroy and consume without reason or purpose. The sorceress herself found a kind of artistic beauty in the nature of destruction, to end things rather than to create. People looked on with awe when things were destroyed, Tsaba had been dumbfounded and speechless when she'd witnessed the effortless level of destructive power Anna had shown her with Lava.

The Portal she commanded had the potential to be so much more than that, a true artisan's tool of destruction. The urge sent filled her mind with visions of cities being consumed by the power she could command, armies sent screaming into the darkness for daring to stand against her. The were pleasant things all things considered, desires that tempted her to go beyond her limits. She resisted the urge, ensuring that the flow of Djed into the Portal was stable.

She made certain to keep the Portal at the small size, expanding it and giving it Pull would drain her far too much. There were a number of important factors to consider when maintaining a Portal, Pull tended to cause even more Djed to be drained to simply maintain the Portal. Larger Portals also took even more maintenance, so combining the two at her level of skill could very well get messy.

No, Pull with a smaller portal would be much more easy to hold for an extended period of time. Perhaps giving it direction would make things much easier on the drain, there was only one way to find out. She might not have been able to move the Portal, however that didn't mean she couldn't direct the existing forces she could place upon the Portals. A new practitioner was often very limited in what they could accomplish, however the limits could be expanded with practice. Like any muscle Personal Magic only became easier with continued use.

She focused upon the tiny vortex, concentrating upon the idea of adding an attractive force upon the Portal. With the idea she included a directive, to only attract things away from her. Again, the fear of possibly accidently Voiding herself later down the line rose up, this was really something she needed to get down pact quickly. Being destroyed by one's own magic was a highly humiliating demise for any respectable wizard.

"Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla."

"Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla."

"Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla."

The sorceress kept her focus via the incantations, feeding a greater quantity of her Djed to the Portal to facilitate the desired force upon the Portal. As she gave more and more she could feel the urge growing ever stronger in her mind, attempting to prey upon her tired mind and her darkest desires. She pushed it aside once again as she continued to concentrate upon the desired results.

Anna looked upon the candle in front of her and noticed that it started to flicker more erratically and towards the direction of the vortex, her Djed beginning to flow much faster from her. Idly she wondered if perhaps she could increase it to such a degree as to extinguish the flame. It seemed an apt and easily accomplished goal even with her level of skill.

The sorceress fed more of her Djed into the Portal, willing the Pull to increase in intensity as much as she could possibly manage. It was much more noticeable as an attractive force as she did, the flame flickering more erratically and the candle itself leaning almost imperceptibly towards the Vortex. It was also at this point that she noticed that the Pull was directed over a very wide radius.

The corner of a piece of parchment seemed to be attracted towards the tiny portal, slowly dragging the rest of itself across the small table. Obviously the Pull was not as selective as she would have liked it to be, still possessing a very wide area of effect. Still she continued to feed her Djed into the Portal as she concentrated on keeping the Pull going ahead of her.

The flame continued to flicker erratically and Anna could begin to feel a little dangerously close to her limitations, the Pull was sapping at her far too much for her liking. However the urge managed to influence her to keep going with maintaining it, at least until the flame died out. The pleasure of wielding the power of the Void did cause a soft moan to escape her lips, if anything it was quite the power trip.

The flame fought valiantly against the hunger of the Void, flickering erratically as it resisted the weak force of the Pull. Unfortunately it was for naught, Anna's determination eventually won out as the flame sputtered for a moment longer before finally extinguishing entirely and leaving the Sorceress in darkness. The smoke that remained of the flame travelled at the direction of the Pull, being consumed by the hungry Portal.

Finally Anna decided enough was enough and simply stopped fuelling the Pull of the Portal. The sorceress righted the Djed fluctuations to the point they had been before the Pull had existed, attempting to stabilize the Portal. It was no easy task, the Portal was still enacting a toll upon her remaining reserves but it was hardly to the intense degree it had been with the Pull enacted.

The Portal seemed to lash out chaotically in the darkness for a moment before calming down as it slowly stabilized, returning to the calming state it had been previously. The Sorceress sighed, pleased that she had managed to keep it open despite the outside influences. It would make her final test easier and less taxing. Reopening a Portal cost a good deal of Djed, working with an existing one was far more easy.

The sorceress felt she had just enough left in her to enact her final test for today, to expand her Portal to about the size of her fist and then collapse it in upon itself. The urge was still swimming in her mind, much stronger than before and this would likely be the last thing she could do today. Still it would complete the flexing of her comfort with the discipline.

As always Anna marveled at the endless hunger hovering above her hand, pitch black amidst the shadows that now surrounded her. So much effort to manifest something so small upon reality, it was rather irritating if she were being perfectly honest with herself. She wanted her power here to be comparable to the heights of reimancy, to the ability to flick her wrists and destroy whatever she petching felt like. The path to that power was long and hard however, her own power in reimancy while formidable was not unmatched unfortunately.

This was why she practiced and experimented, continuing to test and grow more comfortable with the strength of the Void. To master it was to master herself, to rise ever further above the pitiful insects that made up the masses of the world. What was the strength a single man could manage compared to the ability to rend a tear in the fabric of reality? What could a well trained knight do against her if she could but wave a hand and drown him in lava? She was better, more than those mortal and even those immortal such as the undead. Her destiny was greater than theirs.

She focused upon the vortex in her hands, still continuing to feed it a steady influx of her own vital energy. This was the first step upon that path to grand heights. Let others create, she could tear whatever they made asunder will the sheer force of her will. They didn't see the beauty found in destruction. but one day she would make them understand. Those blind to art would be made to see, and she would be the one to open their eyes.

The sorceress willed more and more of her Djed outwards, willing the Portal to grow in size. Immediately as she did she felt a great deal of the strength in her limbs sapped away, her arms feeling as though they were weighed down by leaden weights. A dibble of blood was starting to make its way down her left nostril, and a sheen of sweat covered her skin. Despite it all the urge was making her feel utterly invincible and indeed nearly unstoppable.

She almost didn't want to resist it, to simply allow her desires to rule her and tip her over the edge she now danced along. Madness tugged at her mind, waiting for that push into oblivion where her cares could just melt away and become simple impulses. However the Sorceress held herself in check by an effort of sheer will, her incantations slightly louder as she struggled to keep control.

The Portal expanded in the darkness, continuing to drain her as she kept her hold upon it as solid as she could manage. She could feel its peripherals tease at her inwardly curled fingers, sending icy chills down her spine. Cold, it was so petching cold. The hunger was unyielding in its nature and never halting.

Finally the sorceress could make out that the portal was the size she desired and she simply held it at that size for a few ticks, getting more used to maintaining a larger Portal. After those few ticks the sorceress finally decided that enough was enough and opted to end this. She willed the core of the Portal to fill with matter, collapsing the point of origin for the Portal. Quickly the fist sized bridge between This Side and The Other Side collapsed, disappearing completely in less than a tick.

The air around the Portal seemed to ripple for a moment before returning to its normal state, nothing seeming to have changed for it being there. The sorceress herself definitely felt different though, and certainly not in a good way. Her arms dropped slack to her sides, and she herself was heavily slouching back in her chair. Sweat drenched her flesh and angry bloodshot eyes certainly made her look like one beyond mere exhaustion.

Heavy and gasping breaths escaped her, her lungs drinking in the air greedily. A throbbing headache was tearing through her skull, clawing at her mind and disrupting any coherent thoughts. Heavy casting always was tiring to an extreme, more so than most rigorous physical activity. The sorceress managed a brief moment of envy for Battle Wizards, being able to fight well physically and cast was a boon she wouldn't mind.

Her task completed the tall woman simply decided that the best option for the moment was to simply lay there in her chair. After she was reasonably confident that she could stand without a muscle spasm causing her to fall on her ass she'd probably curl up on her cot and try to rest properly. For now she really just wanted to not move, just to try and sort herself out.
