Magic Plate

Postby Elsa Marin on January 22nd, 2014, 9:39 pm

The magic staff, serving as a linear accelerator of Djed, assists a personal mage as an extension of his body: it can carry magic just like the wizard himself, but it is more flexible and resistant to abuse. Its world magic equivalent, the magic plate, is based on the circle and catalyzes world energies, allowing the mage to use his body or the plate itself instead of the usual tools to execute lesser works virtually anywhere and with little preparation.

Is this a thing that's available?

Magic Plate

The lore says that is a magecraft product. So if you have enough skills in Magecraft and makes one, then yes.

Or if you win/find one in a thread, although I think you would need a modded thread for that, but I'm not sure.

There isn't a magic staff on the price list, so I guess it's not possible to buy, unless you find a PC that is willing to sell you one.

Just make sure you have the proper requirements to make and/or use one.

Magic Plate

Postby Clyde Sullins on January 23rd, 2014, 2:20 am

IC, technically it does exist, and would be in use. However due to OOC considerations, it is not currently in use. Tarot made the lore for the Magic Staff, which is the one that mentions the Magic Plate, so I imagine one day when he has time he will make the lore article for the Magic Plate, and then it will be able to be used.

Until then, no one else really knows exactly how it works, or what exactly it can do. The above mention of it in passing is not really enough to understand it. If anything, that's more of a teaser mention, or a placeholder for when he does make said lore article.

However as Syveris has said, they are both products of Magecrafting. Such items are prohibitively expensive, and more often than not are made to order, not sold on the open market.

The way a Magic Staff being created works is that it counts as a step within Magecrafting, applied to the item. So if that is the only thing done to it, it would be a MC 1 Magic Staff, and would sell for 3,000 gm. Not something the average person can afford. I would think a Magic Plate would be similar in cost, if not more expensive.

Perhaps the way a Magic Plate is made is similar to this, or perhaps not, only Tarot knows. In order to make a Magic Staff though, it requires a specific lore in the crafting of such a item, along with other skill requirements in Magecrafting. A Magic Plate will likely be similar in that respect, that basic skill in Magecrafting will not be enough. Which means at the moment PC's, even Magecrafters, likely cannot make them. Certainly not until the lore is made.

Also bear in mind I don't think it is likely that you will be awarded one in thread, since it is as I said a really expensive item, and also a unknown item until Tarot makes the article for it. So storytellers likely don't know anything more about how it works than the rest of us.
Clydes Stuff

I am actually in RL a super intelligent hamster from Rhode Island, with a 7 year plan to take over the world.

Update 6/2/18- 1:10AM EST: His 7 year plan a success, and several weeks ahead of schedule, Clyde leaves to oversee the world he has taken over.

No new threads after end of Spring 518-Will still be checking for PM's occasionally, but focusing on a new character.

Graders note: :
Please be aware Clyde is a master Magecrafter. He therefore should not be gaining full xp(or possibly shouldn't gain any at all) for simple tasks related to this magic, such as low level MC items, particularly for repetitions of creations he has done before. Feel free to contact me if unsure of a instance of his magic use compared to his skill level.
