Lysaea walked in the snowy forest with her father's smallspear in her hand. It was her first day starting her job at Kyole's Butcher Shop and while she wasn't entirely sure about the animals around Riverfall that were eaten, she was sure that she'd figure it out once she saw them. As she looked around the trees, she scanned for any signs of fauna and managed to find a footprint belonging to one - or at least she hoped. Following the tracks as long as she could while also attempting to find any indication of what she was trying to track, she eventually came to a stop. Cursing silently, she searched around the unfamiliar area looking for any signs of where she could hunt. It was one thing to be able to hunt and another thing to actually be able to find things to hunt. Not liking her inability to find some prey she began to grow frustrated, letting the frustration boil like a kettle within her.

In and out. In and out. Breathe slowly. Calm down she mentally told herself until she felt the frustration begin to recede like a gentle wave. Looking up from the ground, she decided that instead of tracking, she should stay extremely quiet and wait. That's what hunters did after all. Wait, wait, keep on waiting, stay quiet all the time. And then, when their prey came, they struck. That's how she hunted by herself. It was tiresome and it was always alone but that was how she liked it. Alone and free so no one would think twice about the random transmution that erupted when they'd least expect it.

Shaking herself out of her thoughts, Lysaea began to move to a place that was less open and provided more concealment for her. Eyeing a perfect spot, she began to walk quietly over there using her hands to brush apart the leaves.

"SQWAK!"

Lysaea jumped back in surprise, spear at the ready and her eyes wide open. Frozen in shock, she forgot what she was supposed to be doing and simply stared. The bird stared back. It was some creature she had never seen before. It had blue wings outlined in black and a white body with legs which she didn't think she had come across ever before. Gawking at it, she moved forward again this time remembering what she was in the forest for. Before it was too late, she threw her spear at it. Whoosh the wind sang as the bird managed to get away. Speaking words of frustration, she picked up her spear and threw on the ground again. She didn't bother to stop herself from cursing at her luck.

[Job Thread] Getting Started

Continuing her trek further into the woods, she attempted to catch sight of any other bits of game she could find. Unluckily for her, she didn't see any. Finally pausing for a break, she decided she might try working a snare. She had never ever done that before but there was always time to learn something new right? Getting to work, she looked at the branches around her. How did some create a snare again? Shrugging her shoulders, she tried to avoid her uncertainty and picked up the first branch before tying it as best as she could to do corresponding one. Continuing with all of them, she intertwined all the branches, making a dome of sorts. Hopefully that would work. Thinking that she might need a bit of bait for any game that came inside, she went searching for a while and came back. Feeling pleased when she found something that looked edible, she took it and put it in the dome. There, that should do it. She thought looking at her handiwork with satisfaction. Now, all she needed to do was wait for something to get caught.

Mentally remembering this spot, she felt the air whip around her slightly but this time didn't bother to make a noise. Crack. Lysaea froze. Crunch. She turned around slowly, her spear at the ready. Eyeing the surroundings, she moved very slowly until she saw a bird underneath the tree. Game was her first thought. Pulling her arm in a hunting position, she raised it and threw it, doing everything as quietly as she could. Thump went the spear as it landed near it's target but still...it was in the bird. Her eyes lit up. Checking the area quickly, she swiped the bird of the floor and yanked the spear out careful to not destroy the game. Finally, she caught something. That was a miracle in itself that she came across that bird. Smiling, she examined the meat and turned back the way she came. If she managed to be successful in catching something by the snare that she had no idea how to make, she'd be extremely happy for once. Or at least extremely satisfied, but that was good enough to happy. She hadn't felt real happiness in something that felt like forever.

Some time passed before she decided to go check the snare unlike she had originally planned. It wasn't much point returning so early and besides, she wanted to catch more things. Continuing to search for more game, she stayed silently in the same position she was in, sheltered from sight by a tree. Eventually as time ticked by, she caught sight of game. Smiling to herself, she began to move her feet until she was in a kneeling position.

Silently and slowly, she placed her spear in her hand and draw her arm back. Making a slight noise, she saw the game look around the area trying to figure out where it had come from. Holding her breath in, she waited until the game was unsuspecting again and threw the spear, this time making a cleaner shot. That would be good enough. Wondering if she should stay around slightly longer, she decided against it and began to return to the snare. Although she only caught one more piece of game, it was good enough for her first go.

As she walked past the snow-covered branches, she pulled her hands out from the sides and put one of them out, letting the branches whip lightly over her hand. She shivered as she felt the cold on her skin. She loved the cold and since she had her gnosis, she didn't actually feel like she could get hypothermia or frostbite at all. Taking her time, she circled around the area she was hoping for some glimpse of more game on her way back to the snare she set up. Unfortunately, she didn't catch sight of any more so slightly resigned, she returned to the where she put the snare empty-handed (either than the two other game she had already caught). Looking down to where she expected it to be, she didn't manage to see it.

Surprised, she immediately squatted down rummaging her hands around the snow. Confused as to where she last put the snare, Lysa stopped rummaging and scanned her eyes instead so that maybe she could catch a glimpse. No such luck. Sighing, she stood up and scanned the rest of the area. She personally didn't want to have found she caught something but couldn't get it because of her lack of ability to spot things.

Spending the next 30 minutes or so simply looking, Lysa was beginning to give up when her foot caught in something. Cursing at her foot, she turned around annoyed and was about to yank her foot out when she realised there was something in the snow. Pausing, she knelt down after yanking her foot out and brushed the snow off whatever she had caught her foot on. It was pieces of wood and much to her surprise, there was no bait.

Puzzled, she stayed there squatting down wondering what happened to the bait. If it had disappeared she would have assumed something would have eaten it. Her thoughts continued much like that until it hit her. She had only created a dome and placed bait in there. That wasn't much use as a snare was it. In fact it was pretty much useless. The dome was like a shelter, she had needed to place some kind of thing that made the snare choke the animal after it came inside. Rolling her eyes at her stupidity, she sighed and decided to go back. It would get to be sunset soon and she didn't want to be out in the forest after dark.

Standing up, she picked up her two pieces of game as well as the pieces of wood; maybe she could carve on them as if to say thanks for letting her catch something. She knew some people could be unlucky enough to not catch anything at all in winter even if they were more experienced than her.

[Job Thread] Getting Started

Postby Lysaea Frostfawn on February 15th, 2014, 8:25 am

Lysa stopped for a break and sat underneath the shade of a tree. As she closed her eyes, she took a deep breath and sucked in the fresh air. It was stupid how she could get lost from where she had been a few minutes before. She barely recognised the place she was in and she was almost sure her game might not be that fresh anymore. The snow cloaked ground was hardly welcomed in the cartographic puzzle of where she should go. Opening her eyes, she leaned forwards and drew a map on the ground. Frowning in concentration as she tried to draw the places of where she had went, she recalled entering the forest straight and then making a left turn... or something like that.

Continuing to attempt mapping out her route for a few more minutes, she growled in frustration before sweeping out the snow in one smooth move. "WHY?" she shouted out loud, most likely scaring all the game away. Clenching her fists by her side, she glared furiously at the ground. Oh if only looks could kill. Feeling the need to vent out some of her frustration, she formed a pool of res in her palm and created air. Facing her palm outwards, she forcibly pushed the air upwards and sent a breeze in that direction causing a few branches to move enabling her to see the white grey sky for a few seconds.

Still standing there with her random transmutions flickering about her, she continued staring up at the empty branches. The branches were so brittle and thin up at their height. It was impossible for her to not to feel inclined to carve this moment in the woods. In all honesty, she was thinking that her entire situation was slightly ironic. Usually she only carved happy moments she wanted to keep, not frustrating or venting out anger moments; they weren't particularly desirable in her opinion.

Tearing her gaze away from the branches, she sat down and checked her game. At least it was still in tact. Deciding to give finding her way out a rest, she took out her piece of wood before realising she had nothing to carve out on to it. Changing her sitting position to a kneel, she put her hands in the freezing snow and searched about. Bumping into something that felt like wood, she breathed her thanks to the gods and picked it up. That would make do for carving she believed.

Taking out her razor, she scraped against the wood until it looked sharp enough to carve on to wood. She guessed she could have used a razor to carve but she preferred using directly natural things on other directly natural things i.e. wood against wood. Picking up the piece of wood, she grimaced slightly as she felt herself gain a splinter. Wincing as she pulled the wood out from under her skin, careful that she didn't damage herself any further, she flicked it away and returned her attention to carving.

Putting the sharp wood against the other piece, she began to make an indentation. Carving out a line, she repeated the lines until they made a crisscross pattern. Creating more lines, she placed more little lines onto the dry wood before they made a pattern much akin to the sight she saw a few minutes ago. Once she was finished, she held the piece of wood back satisfied with the results she had made for the time she spent on it.

Not quite remembering she was lost and in an unfamiliar forest, she smiled and leaned back into the tree letting the cold wash over her. Sitting that way for a while, she began to doze off before a bird tweeting reminded her that indeed she was in a forest. Snapping her eyes awake, she cursed herself and jumped immediately in her feet. A clear image in her head, she picked up her game and scanned her surroundings. It was nearly sunset. She could tell from the light source.

Deciding that there was no more time to dilly dally, she walked right, hoping that was where she had come from. Once she confirmed that she did not know where she was in a snowy surroundings, she began looking for a tree that she could climb without possibly falling off. Finding one that looked relatively easy to climb, she set about putting her belongings and game in a safe place before looking where to start.

Putting her palms on the rough bark of the tree, she dug her fingers and nails in a secure position before hoisting herself up and placing her feet safely on the bark. Continuing this process, she climbed as far up as she could before looking around, hoping that maybe, just maybe, she could see where the city was.

Unfortunately, all she saw were more branches and more leaves. Sighing ungratefully at the sight, she spied a taller tree that she could probably jump to with relative ease. Clinging tihgtly with one hand against the tree she was currently on, she reached out to judge the distance with another one. Once she determined that she could jump it safely, she prepared to jump, lifting her feet of her current branch. Feeling the panic of not holding on to something begin in the second she was air-born. She immediately grabbed the trunk of the next tree and slightly slipped. Thankfully, she had managed to secure her position.

Taking deep breaths, she began to maneuver her way up the tree until she could see the city. The panic that had been building up little by little on the way up as the branches got thinner were definitely showing. Hands trembling as she settled nervously on her branch afraid that it might give way, she only caught a glimpse of the city before beginning to hear a noise causing her to jump. Bad mistake.

Frantically remembering the general direction of where she saw the noise, she began to scurry as quickly as she could down the tree, missing a few foot and hand holds on the way down. Screaming slightly as she slid the next 2 or 3 metres down, she landed on the snow with a heavy thump. Shocked, she picked up her things before numbly checking herself over to make sure she wasn't hurt and walking in the general direction of the city before she forgot.

Feeling relieved as she finally entered the city, she made her way into the Butcher Shop handing in her game to Kyole before walking out again and letting herself relax. She guessed her first day hunting hadn't been that bad unlike some others she could very well remember.
