13th of Spring 514 | Speech | Thoughts
Without light, without reference, time does not exist. One second, one day, one year? They are all the same. In the darkness there was just her. In this void time did not exist, nor did up, nor did down. Am I sitting? The thought meandered slowly through her brain, but to her was like a flash of light feeling the room. Vainly she clung to the thought as it flowed like water thought her grasping fingers and faded back into nothingness before an answer could be found. Am I even awake? No, it does not matter. She did not even grasp for the second question. It required too much energy.

Inhaling, a cough wrecked her entire body, followed by a shiver. However fire did not follow in the cold’s wake. The heat was gone and just a cold remained seeking its way into her very bones. I don’t want to become one with you Darting from corner to corner, her eyes sought something in the darkness “Am I alone now? Has it taken you all?” Words barely escaped her throat and they felt foreign to her tongue. Still they echoed like the footsteps of giants in such a void. no nightmarish figures did not appear. No twisted forms of darkness and light hovered at the edge of her vision. A held breath escaped the girl’s lips as they turned into a half smile. At the same the same time a sadness rose in her chest. They have left me

Thunder ripped through the void, making even the darkness quiver. The girl’s heart lept through her chest. In her world the darkness was absolute. What could possibly make it tremble Thunder blasted through the darkness again. Leggings trembling, she rose and swayed awkwardly. Thunder beckoned her forward, but her legs would not move. Again the thunder called, but her strength failed. Swaying on her feet, she tried to regain her balance. One last call of thunder sounded, but she fell back unable to reach it.

Then there was silence. The darkness returned stronger than ever and with it the cold. She felt it in her bones, pulling her back down. An icy chill passed over her body like she was slipping below the surface of a lack. All her body wanted to was give in. Yet a small guttering spark held the night at bay No, don’t let it consume me It called out for her, to the thunder. A burning sensation grew around her eyes, as her body convulsed under another cough.

A crack formed, flooded with light, and burst forth into the void. The void shattered and faded revealing not an endless expanse of nothing, but a small messy room. A girl, half naked sat at the edge of a bed squinting against the light that now burned her eyes. Spidery arms still shook as they tried to push her back to standing. Her ribs pushed out from pale skin, and Oily hair plastered her slightly hollow checks. She smelled of sickness, but she was still there, still alive. Slowly, her eyes squinted against the light revealing the silhouette of a man.

Where have You Been? (Kreig)

He had no reason to be here, Kreig knew that. He knew there was no reason for him to check on a student whom only showed up for two of their lessons. But that was reliant on the fact that he felt no connection to such individuals, that there was no special bon that seemed to form between....that both did not have a certain thirst.

It wasn't easy finding her home, he had to ask around.... a lot. Whoever he asked either did not know of her or his explanations simply offered too little or too convuluted for them to comprehend. The ones who DID know however, had not seen her in quite some time, the young lass they usually saw no longer seemed to make a presence in the city. That only caused him to worry even more and ask further until he at last had found someone who seem to know where Millicent lives. He was a man perhaps only a few years older than Kreig himself, quite bald but there was a hideous scar on the back of his scalp that apparently was caused by a torch falling on his head.

Kreig did not have time to listen to his tale but learned that the Man was the girls neighbor. He only saw her once or twice but he knew well enough not to forget such a quite child. At first the man was objective of giving Kreig the knowledge of where Milli live until Kreig assured him he was a squire of the order and then everything wen smoothly once he received he information he required.

That was how Kreig came to be in front of Millicent's door, hessitation having him fear the worse. no one had seen her in quite some time, as such he imagined seeing nothing in that room and it was all for nothing or worse..... a rotting corpse that no one seemed to smell the stench of. He breathed deeply, raising a fist and knocking on the door, just because he was immensely worried did not mean he should not be polite. A gentle rap once or twice, then repeated again after the passing of a few chimes, Kreig began to worry immensely as his hand gently reached for the knob. As he pulled down, the door pushed back slightly 'It's open?' That worried him as he pushed the door slowly, the light of the torches outside reaching within Millicent's home.

Kreig's throat had tightened by what he saw, the person he saw before him was thin, not overtly so but far more than they were the previous time he had seen her. She rested on her bed, a smell assaulted his nostrils that told him something he'd rather not know....

Slowly he approached the girl, he took off his gauntlets from his fists, setting them on top of a table within the lass' home. He kneeled against her bed and looked at her, she still live obviously other wise there would be no life in the dull eyes that looked back at him "Young lass....how could you let yourself look so dead? What happened?" He asked, he was not sure he would recieve an answer either as he gently scooped his arms under her form and lifted ' I should have come here sooner...' Kreig thought to himself as he looked down at her again.

"Don't worry lass, you'll be alright. That I promise you" And he was a man of his word.

Squinting against the intrusion of light, the girl struggled to make out the details of the man. He was different than the others. Much bigger, much braver. The others that had only appeared in the corner of her eyes, and rarely did they stay for a few seconds. Occasionally they drifted around the room, but this one moved completely differently. When the others moved they flickered and danced like mist in the wind, but this one made to air part around him. Compared to the dance of the others, his movements seemed to drag as if something made him hesitate.

Details began to feel out on the man as her eyes adjusted to the light. While he was a mixture of light and dark, he did not blend like the others. Though her vision was still blurry, his body clearly had regions of dark and light. With the others, the darks flowed and mixed with the light, shifting and obscuring their form. How strange She thought, or at least she thought she thought. What passed through her brain no longer seemed to fill the room. No wait, that’s normal She realized on both accounts.

The clanking of metal on wood drew her attention back to the man. A nagging sensation bite at her thoughts. I know him from somewhere, somewhere before the darkness She did her best to place him but his face was still blurry. The nagging grew as he spoke to her, though his question made no sense. What does he mean dead? How did I get here? Her mind’s eye turned back toward the beginning and what had happened. Most of that seemed a blur. The more she focused on it the harder it was to think.

Finally, Images of shivering against the cold, then the endless sweat that poured down her burning face, and finally the endless darkness passed through her mind, but they did not seem to reach outside. Unlike the others Oh right, that’s not how it works. The realization came like a person returning to an abandoned craft and relearning how it works. “I was very cold, then very hot, then nothing.” Words flowed slowly, her lips moving to test each one before letting it loose. Even when it came out, they sounded like the cracking of dry leafs. Following behind them was a heavy cough that shook her body.

A brief smile crept across her face as the man lifted her from the bed. I will be fine Her thoughts repeated his words. Krieg Messer, that’s right A warm feeling rose in her stomach but that soured. The smile faded. Something nagged at the back of her mind again. A dark figure similar to this man than the figures that haunted the corner of her mind. As he picked her up, as shiver shook her body. Everything will work out fine A quiet voice not her own whispered back into her ears. She remembered a person who had promised something similar.

“He is back.” Her words quivered and her eyes grew red and puffy. The shiver then turned into a squirm. Weakly her arms pushed his chest. “Kreig, put me down.” The words rustled like wind through dead leafs. “I don’t want to get in trouble.”

Where have You Been? (Kreig)

Kreig stopped suddenly, looked down at her, as if she said the most rediculous thing he heard in a long while " I don't care who is back, missy. You are ill and I'll be damned to let you like this any longer" kreig announced as he continued carrying her gently and moved forward, uncaring at the moment whoever was 'back' and later on he would find out who 'he' is and deck him then ask why he let things go as long as they did.

For the moment, he needed to find a healer... any healer really and the only place he could think of finding one is back in the Military district within the private walls of the order. As such he made haste to the military district, the tired and ill young lady in his arms, so that he could accomplish that goal.

It did not take him long to reach his current home, along the way people were curious as to why he carried the young lady in his arms like she were a bride, only way he could carry her really since he wasn't sure it would be healthy to carry her over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. One of the knight's had questioned him breifly but Kreig simply said he had not the time as he took Millicent to the infirmary.

There, a kontie of the Opal order greeted him but then suddenly paused and motioned for Kreig to place the young lady on a cot within the room. Kreig looked down at the lass, laying her gently on the bed and said;

"Everything will be ok Lass, the people here will treat you right, no doubt about that" x

The look ended it. “OK” A brief mutter echoed back, as arms fell away from Kreig’s chest. Her shoulders slumped down and brown eyes closed tight against the light. Lips turned upward into a slight pout and she crossed her arms across her chest. A cough wracked her body, lifting her back out of Kreig’s arms as. As soon as it had passed, she fell back down into his arms.

Cool spring air nipped at the girl’s bare skin. Its icy touch quickly rose goose bumps across her body. Vaguely, she felt the heat of Krieg’s body and started to turn her body closer to his. About mid turn, she ran out of steam and just plopped back into her original position. Dislodged, her right arm fell down and dangled in front of him. For a second, it rose back up, but then fell again. Though her skin was as pale as a corpse, color rushed to her ears. Her left arm moved slightly covering her bra underneath it.

It took time, but slowly the torch light stopped burning at her eyes Just as she was about to open her eyes, she felt herself being sat down. Blinking against the light, Brown orbs stared up at Kreig. “You could have at least let me get dressed” She protested but a smile spread across her face. After so long in the darkness, the light still burned her eyes drawing tears. Everything beyond Krieg’s face was blurry, but she could tell this room was different than her home. Behind them, she could make out a pale woman examining something.

Millicent did not have to wait long to get a closer look at the woman. A shiver ran down Millicent’s spine. The other woman’s skin reminded her of the finest snow, as for the long locks of hair that tumbled down her neck, Millicent had never seen anything so white. Millicent tensed as a pale hand reached for her shoulder, yet it did not possess the coldness she expected. Mindlessly, Millicent sat up as at the slight tug of her shoulder. Drifting around the room, her gaze settle back on Kreig, her mouth open in confusion.

Questions formed at her lips, but her heart leapt before they could be ask. Something touched her in the center of her chest. Looking down, she saw only a field of white hair. Pressure increased on her shoulder and but the grip stilled her pounding heart . After what seemed like half a bell, but more like half a chime, the woman sat back up. Millicent’s eyes followed the woman still wide with confusion. Still the woman’s lips did not move.
A gentle tug on the shoulder, pulled Millicent out of bed. The soft grasp seemed to urge her to stand. Trembling, Millicent pushed herself to her feet. A sigh reached her ears, as the hand on her shoulder pushed her back down. Apparently her struggle to stand had given the woman enough information. Gratefully, she sat on the bed. The hand slide down her shoulder like they were gliding on ice. Fingers pressed against her skin probing muscles. Their delicate touch drew giggles form the girl as they traced over her ribs and under her arm. The fingers probe stopped about halfway down her arm, and Millicent heard another sigh.

“Take off those cloth, and lay down while I have a word with your squire friend here.” The Healer finally spoke. Millicent expected her words to be like ice, but instead they were soft like the wind whistling through a tree. Squire? Her wide eyes and open mouth where almost becoming perpetual. She saw the woman’s grip transfer form her to Kreig. Her gaze fell away from the two. Hesitantly her fingers worked to take off her undergarments. Her eyes spied a blanket resting at the foot of the bed. The blanket was soft almost as soft as the woman’s hands. Gingerly she wrapped in around herself but refused to lay back down.

Where have You Been? (Kreig)

As the healer busied herself with caring for Milli, Kreig could only wonder how the young lass could let herself be in such a position? Why had no one checked on her? Why hadn’t he checked on her when he had the chance? It made his gut turn to think that if he hadn’t decided on days of all days to check on her after the passing of so many others, she would have likely died. She already looked half to death really. He looked at Millicent, for the most part the girl looked like she was lost in a waking dream, as if the world wasn’t real currently as the Konti healer looked her over. With simple-looking actions the healer examined the young lass, simple as they were they seemed to tell her everything needed to assess the young lass’ situation. After a bit she had the young lady take off her garments and Kreig slightly looked away, she wasn’t skin in bones, but the weight was apparent.

The healer then turned to Kreig and looked at him “ So Squire, care to explain why this young girl is ill?” Kreig tilted his head as he looked back at the healer and back at Milli “ Other than malnutrition, she is also suffering from a very high fever. Why didn’t you bring her sooner?

“I didn’t know she was that sick, ma’am. We've known each other only through the fighter’s pit, I offered her lessons and so far we only had two. After that she didn’t show and my schedule got busier so I wasn’t able to see her anyway. But well…. During those two lessons we bonded and I was worried about her well being. Especially when I learned no one saw her in a while”

“But well…. During those two lessons we bonded and I was worried about her well being. Especially when I learned no one saw her in a while, a LONG while”

You mean she’s been like this for quite some time?

“It’s what I’m gathering ma’am from when I asked around for her and where she live” Kreig shrugged as he ran a hand through his hair and realized he did not have his gauntlets with him ‘best get those later, no need to worry about ‘em for now

That’s horrible, to think she had been this ill….has she no family to care for her?” Asked the healer, a look of concern on her face,

“I can’t answer ma’am, the one with that answer is the little lady if she’s willing to answer” Kreig motioned to Milli as she didn’t seem to be resting “Who won’t get better unless she rested…” Kreig said a little more loudly, though unsure if it registered in Milli’s mind.
