[Gug Andjak]A True Staff part III: Final Step

Postby Clyde Sullins on February 28th, 2014, 4:42 pm

62 Winter 513

It had been a long slow task, but Clyde was finally entering the last phase of his work.

He had begun on the 52nd, working on the initial setup of the Magecrafting, preparing his Glyphs. Then he had done the first step of the enchantment, the first enhancement to durability to the staff, and also used some soulmist to give it the ability to interact with ghosts.

He had continued on with his work until the 55th, where he had done the step to imbue the staff with the True properties of a Magic Staff, along with Annalisa. He had also begun his work on the second step of the durability enhancement.

Now, another 7 days later he was done with that step. All that was left was the last and final step of the enchantment, a third and final enhancement to the durability of the staff. Then for the cool down.

However before he could do anything else, he needed to add the catalyst. As it was now, the item was at capacity, its structural nature almost overburdened. Any further increase to that specific portion of its nature would likely overburden it. Which meant... He needed to improve its structure, and its ability to hold djed. Something that only rare or high level djed could do, such as what was found in the filaments he had obtained.

Taking out the scroll that held the filaments, Clyde prepared a second scroll to hold what was leftover. He also put on some gloves, not wanting to directly touch the filaments.

The scroll was simple, just like the first one. Almost without thinking Clyde drew out a barrier with a slow pair of curving intersecting but shadowing lines. In the midst of that he added a circle with a second curvy line on its edge, a sun. Then to the side, he added a triangle, cutting into the barrier glyphs.

The trigger was simple, saying: When this scroll is held by Clyde Sullins, and he says "wriggles squiggle", then lower the barrier and release what is held within."

With that Clyde was done, ready to release the "squiggles" from his older scroll.

[Gug Andjak]A True Staff part III: Final Step

Postby Clyde Sullins on March 1st, 2014, 12:16 am

Holding up the scroll over the table, Clyde said the trigger phrase, "Dangerous squiggles be released!"

As he did there was a small motion, and the 6 filaments held within emptied out, falling across the table. There was a sudden tingling on his neck, running down his spine, at the same time as the scroll crumbled into dust. When the entire monster had been there, its aura had been almost painful, and had been unpleasant to experience. Even these small bits of it where noticeable and not nice.

Being careful with his gloved hands, he moved one across the table by itself, and moved the other five to the scroll. Picking them all up, he dropped them into the newly formed scroll, and stowed it once more amongst his gear. Now that only one squiggle was left, it was not so unpleasant, but still left a tingle on his neck.

But here was the hard part... How did he get the magic of the filament into the hammer? Just striking it? That did not seem right... Surely he a master Glypher could do better than that.

Taking out another scroll, he unrolled it, and quickly glyphed it like the prior one. The same barrier, and focus, and trigger symbol, but a different trigger.

This time he altered it to say: When the focus of this scroll is struck, release the contents forth into the striker.

Clyde was uncertain exactly if it would work, but he then deposited the final remaining filament into the scroll's focus. It was now alone, a single filament held in the scroll.

Heading over to his tools, he took a uncharged hammer, a very nice but tiny hammer small enough for him to hold between two fingers. Normal but for its tiny size... And the fact that it was made out of solid gold. But then gold was better for catalyzing magical reactions, so it would be a better conduit for such concentrated djed as in this filament.

Taking the tiny hammer, he lightly struck the focus of his newly made scroll. As he did he felt a sudden surging of djed, and watched as the scroll crumbled into dust like the first one... However as he lifted his hammer, he saw that the filament was no where to be seen. It had worked! He had successfully found a way to cleanly move the djed of the filament into his hammer. By storing it in a Glyph, and then releasing it directly into it, he had been able to do it without any issues.

Heading back over to his pedestal, and through its Glyphing, Clyde let out a sigh. It had almost been to simple.

As he prepared to strike the staff, he took a moment to open his Auristical sight. He willed djed to flow to his eyes, watched as his Aura vision bloomed. It was easy standing amongst his Glyphs, and ensconced inside of the outer barrier which blocked out the sight of any other Aura's.

He took a few moments to examine the staff, seeing its flow of djed. As the last time he had seen it, it was a river of color. But unlike before when it had been many small trickles of water, with a main flow of blue in the middle, now it was one mighty river of djed. Its colors were a odd mix of bluish silver, with a slight tinge of white.

He continued to stare at it, noticing that its banks where full, and the waters occasionally lapped over the edges. It had no room for more djed to be expanded within it. He had noticed this the last few days, as he finished up the second structural enhancement step.

Curious as to what would happen, Clyde swung down his hammer to strike the middle of the staff with a light blow.

[Gug Andjak]A True Staff part III: Final Step

Postby Clyde Sullins on March 1st, 2014, 2:39 pm

As Clyde swept downward with his hammer, and it made contact with the staff, a wave of cold prickling swept down his body. It was like someone had made a tiny blade of ice, and was repeatedly poking him with it all over, but in a downward sweeping motion starting from his head. It swept down his spine, down his back, along his legs, and left him with a slight tingling in his toes.

Momentarily being distracted from the Aura reading, he brought his focus back to the staff fully, and was surprised by what he saw.

With other magecrafting, infusing the djed of normal reagents into an item, he saw a filling in of water, a mixing of color, a slow transition as the colors merged and the banks were full. When he had done the step for the magic staff, the banks of the river of djed had been widened a bit. When he had added further to structural enhancement, the level of the water had risen.

The last time he had looked, those banks of the djed capacity had been full, the waters had risen as high as the river could go... But now it had altered. It was like a giant hand had come down out and dug out the bottom of the river, and made its depth much deeper.

The water sloshed about and splashed as it drained downward, its new bottom shining and fresh. That apparently was what a powerful catalyst did. While the djed of a normal reagent simply filled up the djed pathways and the body of the thing to be enchanted, a catalyst spent the djed on deepening the djed holding ability of the item, of opening many new levels. It made more room for more of the normal kind of djed to be added.

It was like the difference between a man taking a pail of water, and emptying it into a hole they had dug, that being more mundane reagents, and a earth Reimancer tearing up the bottom of the hole and making it deeper so it could hold more waters, while also reinforcing and strengthening said new bottom. That being the catalyst.

Clyde shook his head, and watched for a moment as the last of the waters surged downward, settling on the new bottom of the river... The new expanded and deepened river. Now the waters in the river seemed small, flowing along this new canal dug for it. If he had the time and reagents, he did not doubt he could have added quite a bit more enhancements.

But then, each additional step took much more work, filled up the waters of the river more than the one before, so it was hard to say how many steps more this would have allowed him if he had gone past his planned one.

Regardless, Clyde felt a small chill run down his neck, at the mighty djed at work. Thank Rhysol for Clyde's Glyphs, he did not like to think what might have happened with such powerful djed if he had not made all of the preparations he had to protect the area from interference and excess djed.

How did anyone make do as a Magecrafter without being a master Glypher?

[Gug Andjak]A True Staff part III: Final Step

Postby Clyde Sullins on March 1st, 2014, 4:41 pm

Heading back to the table, Clyde spent a chime perusing the hammers he had charged for the start of work, and set aside the spent hammer. He picked up two of the hammers of moderate size, and headed back to the staff and its pedestal.

As he looked down at the staff, having passed back over the Glyphs, its aura bloomed back into sight. He glanced about it, sensing its ways and motions and pathways, and trying to see which way he should go about inserting the djed. It would certainly be far easier, now that he had added the catalyst to stabilize the reaction.

Using the hammer in his left hand, he tapped the staff twice near the head, and then a third time near the foot of the staff. The peal of sound reverberated outward, much more tolerably than the last swipe of his hammer. Infusing common djed was less taxing on ones nerves than the wave of power given off by such a high level djed.

Using the right hand hammer, he made two more strikes, inserting it along the length of the wood. The two new strikes rose in a crescendo, a wave of sound crashing over the earlier peals and bonding into a greater louder one. After a few moments it quietened, leaving but a small hum in his teeth.

He could see the new trickle of silver water flowing into the grand canal, as the waters where turned a bit less blue. But even when he was done, even if he where to totally saturate the staff with his own Magecrafting work, he did not doubt there would still be a trace of blue. The staff after all was the vessel for this great enchantment, and so it would always have a place of prominence.

Clyde thought for a moment about naming the staff. He had heard of it being done with powerful works of Magecrafting... But he was no great creator of names.

As he thought for a moment, a idea popped into his mind. Why not just call it by a ancient tongue name? It was a blue staff, due to it being made of Vian wood... Why not call it Cha? The ancient tongue word for Blue seemed a fitting name.

[Gug Andjak]A True Staff part III: Final Step

Postby Clyde Sullins on March 1st, 2014, 4:51 pm

Looking down at the staff, Clyde smiled, and held up his hands, deciding on a small bit of theatrics.

"I, Clyde Sullins, formally name this staff as Cha! May it ever be blue, as its name ascribes it."

Holding this dramatic pose for a few moments, Clyde grinned down at the staff, and then finally lowered his hands. Regardless of being a bit silly for a moment, Cha did seem a good name for the staff.

Heading back to the table, Clyde set aside the last two hammers he had used, and picked up another.

This was one of the largest hammers, though even it could be held easily one handed. Hammers for Magecrafting where more about quality, not size, so it made sense.

Taking the hammer back to his pedestal, Clyde let out a sigh. Giving it one last look with his Aura vision, he pondered upon the staff. He could see the bits of liquid djed, malleable, willing to change. So different from the solid nature of the djed of a object once it was done being Magecrafted and had been cooled down. Or even from that of a normal un-enchanted object or person. He was used to seeing Auras like this, since he spent a lot of time examining aura while Magecrafting, but he imagined the average Aurist would find such a vision odd.

Hefting up the hammer, he pulled it downward, and smacked it right in the center of the staff with a resounding tap. He willed all of the djed out in one deft motion, felt as its effects rippled across the length of the staff, a single note of a song singing in a dark room. Alone, but none the weaker for it. As it struck the ends of the staff's pathways it began to bounce about, feeling out its edges, pushing on them, willing them apart and to spread.

It was a wonder he even bothered with other magics. None could compare to what he saw as he did his Magecrafting. He might have mastered Reimancy, but it did not give him such sights as this. And while he enjoyed working on Glyphing, it also alone did nothing.

Magecrafting on the other hand, was a wonder to behold, and could create objects of such majesty.

His shoulders where beginning to ache from all of the attention they had been seeing of late... But he did not want to stop. It was troublesome to do all this work, but he would be sad when it was done.

But then he would have a new staff, and be able to work with it, and understand its deeper abilities. And that would also be very interesting, working to understand and master the staff. To understand Cha, as he had named him.

[Gug Andjak]A True Staff part III: Final Step

Postby Clyde Sullins on March 1st, 2014, 5:01 pm

66 Winter 513

It had been quite a lot of work, but finally Clyde was done. He had looked at his items aura last night, and saw its majesty. It was complete, it needed no more work to bring it to its next step.

In all he had added four steps to the staff, one to make it a true Magic Staff, and three to increase its durability. And now he was done. All that was left was to cool down the staff.

Heading over to a large empty basin, Clyde scrawled some simple symbols in the bottom of the tub. Then he dragged over a barrel, and began to dump the water out of it and into the tub, careful to not splash the water about.

It took a few chimes to fill it up properly, but he did his work slowly and carefully.

This was the final step of the process, of his Magecrafting, and he would have no mistakes now. Not when he had been working so diligently and well throughout the entire process.

Turning to the pedestal, Clyde headed over and carefully picked up the staff. It was light, made of a softer wood after all, and pleasant to touch. The half isur who had carved it out had done his job well.

He slowly picked it up like it was a egg that could be cracked by squeezing it to hard, and looked it over. Then with a step of finality, he stepped off the pedestal with the staff. With a few more steps he was outside of the Glyphs he had surrounded the pedestal with, and was at the charging basin. He held it above the waters, and then slowly let go, letting it sink for a moment, and then bob back up.

As it came into contact with that waters, it began to bubble and froth, as if he had dropped a burning hot iron into the waters. However while the staff was not physically hot, magically it was ablaze.

This was the final step, the one that would cool it down, and permanently solidify the staff into its new ways, into its new state of being. Once this was done there would be no going back, and he would have completed this great work.

[Gug Andjak]A True Staff part III: Final Step

Postby Clyde Sullins on March 1st, 2014, 5:16 pm

It had been many bells since Clyde had dropped his staff into the waters of the basin. Nearly half of a day.

For the first and second bell, it had frothed wildly, bubbling, churning, rolling the staff over endlessly so that a new side of it was always facing up and out of the water.

The next few bells though, it had slowed down, leaving it slower and slower bubbling. Then it had been just a simple bubble, a slow one, like something that had just come to a boil, and was not quite yet ready.

The last few bells it had done little, only an occasional bubble of water coming up off the staff. Now it had been a full bell with no action at all, not even a single bubble.

But before he pulled it out of the waters, he had to examine it once more with his Auristical sight. He did not want to pull it out before its time.

As he delved into his Aura sight, he focused on the staff. At first there was a aura around, dull grey, but then he took a second glance. Its aura was big... Bigger than any mundane staff should be, that was for certain. But even bigger than any other creation of Magecrafting he had made. Of course, he had never before gone all the way to four steps.

He focused on it more closely, and its aura drew into focus in color. It was a bright aura, powerful, colored mainly silver, but a bluish silver. He also saw a few wisps of white and grey, and smallest of all a tiny streak of purple.

But as he looked at the aura itself, he saw it was solid. Where before he had seen a river of liquid djed, flowing and splashing and foaming, now he saw a solid block of frozen djed, hewn and shaped into a final form. There was not even the slightest bit of un-solidified djed within it.

A small smile coming to his lips, Clyde bent down and picked up the staff. As he did, he felt a small tingle of energy go into his hand and up his arm, but the feeling soon vanished.

"Hello Cha. I am to be your new master. I am happy to finally meet you as you will be. May we work together well, and our union be a successful one."

With that, Clyde was done, deciding to finish off his work with a small prayer to Rhysol.

Rhysol, I thank you for all you have given me, and all you have helped me. You have often tested me, and put tasks before me that others would have been unable to surpass. But I know you see in me what I am, and what I can truly do.

Thank you for this, for this all finally coming to fruition. I hope that my work will reflect well upon you, and will prove to be a formidable weapon in your name. May it be as deadly to your foes, as the mouth-less grey beast who's essence was placed inside of it was nearly to me.

Magecrafting :
Just to sum it up, this is a MC 4 item, with +3 to durability, +1 to make it a true magic staff, along with some soulmist used as a optional reagent so it can interact with ghosts and such, and a filament from a Journeyman used as a catalyst/stuff.

Clyde
Auristics +2
Magecrafting +4

Lores :
  • Magecrafting: Charging Hammer with Journeyman Filament
  • Magecrafting: Completing a Stable magic Staff
  • Magecrafting: Cha's Aura

Item's and Rewards :
+1 Magic Staff MC4 (Cha)
Crafted by Clyde Sullins' own hands, this staff is a powerful creation that is personally connected to the Wizard. The staff's body is Izentor crafted Vian Wood staff structurally enhanced with three levels of durability using Magecrafting. Because of this the staff cannot be broken by anything short of another magically enhanced item, or another Izentor crafted item of equal or higher level. Cha has a strong aura that is visible to those of novice level autistic and above, clearing marking it for the magical item that it is. It has a strong affinity for both voiding and reimancy magic, allowing spells from either disciplined to be channeled through it more easily. Water reimancy feels more natural than any other element when channeled through the staff..

In addition to the intended affects, Clyde will also be able to sense this staff's location anywhere in the world once he tames and masters communion. Spells can be stored within this staff, and Clyde is even able to touch and interact with ghosts and spirits using this staff. In the final steps Clyde used a hammer charged with a filament from a Journeyman, and because of this a few hidden abilities have been transferred as well that will be revealed after he tames the staff and masters communion with it.

Required Lores
Cha: Taming the Staff
  • Requires 1 thread of 'taming'
  • Each Personal Magic that Clyde wishes to channel through the staff requires he learn how to channel each personal magic in thread and earn the lore
    Cha: Channeling (Personal magic)
  • Voiding and Reimancy will always be the easiest personal magics for Clyde to channel, especially water reimancy.

Cha: Communing with your staff
  • Requires "Cha: Taming the Staff" lore, and 3 threads where Clyde learns how to commune with Cha

Cha: Sensing Staff
  • Requires "Cha: Taming the Staff", and 2 threads where Clyde discovers this ability to sense Cha's presence at different distances.

Cha: Storing Spells
  • Requires "Cha: Communing with your Staff" and 2 threads of communion (where he discovers the ability to store spells) in addition to the previous 3 required for "Communing with your Staff" to unlock this ability.

Cha: Hidden ability (will be filled in when awarded)
  • Requires "Cha: Taming the Staff", "Cha: Communing with your Staff", "Cha: Sensing Staff" and "Cha: Storing Spells". Only one thread is required to unlock this ability.

Truth Hidden by a Mirage :
Great thread!! And yay you got a staff! now you have a LOT of thread material to work with! I designed a system for Clyde to unlock each of the staff's abilities. When you have completed all of the steps send me a PM and I will fill you in on the last ability of this staff and let you unlock it ^.^.

I will allow 2 grandfathered threads for you. 1 you can use for your judgement, and the 2nd you can use to get the lore "Communing with your Staff". That way you can spend the rest of Spring unlocking all of the staff's abilities. The estimated time should take Clyde until nearly the end of Spring to unlock the staff's hidden abilities. IF you have any questions please feel free to PM me, and no I wont tell you what that last ability is until the end ^.^. Good luck!
