The Garrison

The Garrison

In the center of Mithryn rests one of the oldest structures in the Outpost. Built with native stone, The Garrison’s sub structure touches the bedrock below the foundation, while its walls rise three floors from a solid man-made earthen bulwark. The walls are weathered, but maintained, and charmingly climbed by ivy. Mourning Doves nest in the wooden eaves, and on its clay tile rooftops. At dawn and dusk the doves of Mithryn sing for all near enough to hear. It is considered a bad omen to find a dead Mourning Dove at Mithryn Garrison, one to be warded off with honorable deeds, and an evening of singing at the Fool’s Errand.

In the beginning, before the outer wall was built and the some two hundred families of farmers and tradesman made Mithryn their home, the Garrison was all that Mithryn outpost had to offer in terms of quick shelter and deployment of The Order into the fields. Its fortified position served well for patrol and defense. Yet as the food needs of Syliras grew, so too did the needs to house civilian farmers and other Skilled Laborers there. So, the once simple Outpost became a Garrison to house those of The Order that call Mithryn home.

The Garrison surrounds the inner courtyard and main bailey of Mithryn, while its Fortified walls act as a secondary defensive position, if Mithryn were ever attacked, and the outer wall taken. Evenly spaced arrow loops run the length of the third and fourth floor of all four sections of The Garrison. In the inner courtyard, stairways run to both the second and third floor verandas for convenience and mobility.

The Western Wall aka The Gatehouse

The Weir

The Gateway to The Garrison, also known as “The Weir”, faces westward and opens outward onto the main road that leads through Mithryn to the gates of the outpost. The door is made of Iron reinforced Oakwood not unlike the main gates of Mithryn. It is large enough for two men on horseback to pass through, or one large cart, with a little room to spare. Two to four men stand guard. Typically Knights and their Squires fill this need, though in times of raised security well-armed Knights only. The Door itself is often left open at night to aid in the flow of Footmen in their frequent comings and goings.

The Menagerie

The Stables, known lovingly by knight and squire alike as “The Menagerie”, are located to the left and right of the gate and run along the inner wall. Their placement provides quick deployment of cavalry or dispatcher in emergencies. Many of the Knights, and Squires keep their horses here. Squires and Pages can often be found working in the early hours of the morning, and into the night tending to the animals. Even Winslow Brady can sometimes be found giving a particularly sick animal a house call from time to time.

The Armory

The Armory takes up the majority of the second floor of the Western Wall. Here Knights can find Knight Quarter Master Bastion Toth to help them with a sharpening or issue of fresh armor. All manner of remorseless metal can be found here for training and testing purposes. If you feel your weapon or armor of choice is not for you, talk to Bastion. He can usually sort you out. Ser Bastion Toth prides himself on knowing where a weapon is from and the kind of wound it makes. If you just dinged that shiny new breastplate, he will often provide a loaner. Out source of repairs takes seven days to half a season depending on damage.

Gate Hearth

The third floor of this section of the Garrison is made up entirely of single family homes. Simple apartments, personally decorated, and comfortable, they typically consist of one to two bedroom spaces complete with a fireplace and bath. Gate Hearth does have a fair view of the gates of Mithryn, and the western market. When Syna sets just right you can see a band of molten gold, caused by her radiance dipping below the horizon of the Suvan.

The Northern Wall aka The Frist Dormitories

The first floor of the northern wall has but one room that fills its space. Roughly fifteen to forty Pages and one to four Sargent Knights assigned to their care and discipline, call this long room home. The room is simply decorated with single and two tiered bunks, a few tables, stools, footlockers, one worn out old easy chair and a large simple fireplace at the east end fill the space. In the west end of the room, two doors lead to separate gender specific lavatories. Due to the rooms open floor plan and large fire place, it acts as a good area to sit in the evenings and share a few stories or wisdom with the younger members of the order. Story telling is a frequent past time, as is the occasional book reading.

The second floor of the Frist Dormitories, house the somewhat comfortable and decorative bunks of the Squires. The first thing you would notice is each Bunk is its own heavily built ash slat bed complete with a footlocker headboard. A new bunk is stocked with a straw packed mattress, a wool blanket, a simple linen sheet, and a straw packed pillow. However, as time goes on, squires have been known to acquire better bedding. They are encouraged to decorate their beds and improve their living situation through the gathering of trophies, bartering with fellow squires, personal craft projects, animal skins, or keepsakes from quests they've completed. Each Squire’s bunk is the same in its design, but unique in its appearance. The room shares a chimney with the pages dorm below, but their fire place is smaller.

Frist Hearth

The third floor of this section of the Garrison is made up entirely of single family homes. Simple apartments, personally decorated, and comfortable, they typically consist of one to two bedroom spaces complete with a fireplace and bath. Frist Hearth does have a view of the river to the north. Though just. It can be seen on a clear day as a sliver of silver as it winds its way west from the Cobalt Mountains to the Suvan.

The Southern Wall aka The Whitevine Dormitories

The Baths

The First floor of The Whitevine Dormitories contains two Gender private baths. When one of the Order spends their day training in the mud, or digging in the dirt, this is where they come before a meal, or before bed. The baths are heated by piping hot water from a wood fire heated water cauldron in a room below, into individual in ground baths, or a couple of shallow large group pools.

Whitevine Hearth

The second and third floors of The Whitevine Dormitories are made up of single family apartments. These apartments typically are one to two bedroom homes, with an adjoining hearth room, and single bath. Typically Knights and their families are housed here. If a Knight does not have a family, they may have an apartment to themselves, or be assigned one with another Knight. These rooms do have a view of the wide and open expanse of the southern fields, and “Little Avitar,” southern branch of the Avitar River.

The Eastern Wall aka The Brock Dormitories

The Mess

The first floor of the Eastern wall holds a great hall, with an adjoining Kitchen. The long room is similar to the squire dormitories, with two large hearths spaced evenly along its back wall. However, while the Frist dormitory is filled with beds, this place holds a set of long tables to provide the Knights and squires on duty at Mithryn a place to rest their weary boots while they eat.

The Kitchen is stocked heavily with dried beans, corn, rice, and other grains. Honey, salt, sugar, vanilla, and maple syrup make up a majority of additive flavors for meals. All of these luxuries are heavily regulated. Meats hang from a large rack overhead that can be reached by a ladder the squires on mess duty keep in the corner. They have ovens for baking bread, and large cauldrons for boiling meat. Large grills for cooking the sausages. The growing pages, and the hard working Knights and Squires of Mithryn can pack away a lot of food, and the higher ups like to be sure their boys and girls are well fed.

The Root Cellar

Below the Kitchens, via a staircase, is the Cellar. Potatoes, carrots, beets, cabbage, garlic, onions, gourds wild roots, lemons, limes, oranges, and apples keep cool here in the cellar. There are also several barrels of cider, mead, wine, and one or two of Malted Whiskeys. Though, the whiskey is kept for emergencies or celebrations. Firkins of spice and a few other perishables are kept here as well, at the base of the Garrison where It is cool.

Brock Hearth

The second and third floors of The Brock Dormitories are made up of single family apartments. These apartments typically are one to two bedroom homes, with an adjoining hearth room, and single bath. Typically Knights and their families are housed here. If a Knight does not have a family, they may have an apartment to themselves, or be assigned one with another Knight. These rooms have a stunning view of the Cobalt Mountains.

The Attic

The Walls of Mithryn may rise three floors, but the Attic rises a head above them all. This large tower has enough rooms for both Whitevine and Frist to have their offices, as well as a commanding view of the Bailey, the Garrison, and outward beyond the walls of Mithryn. After climbing the staircase from the third floor veranda one finds themselves in a simple circular room with a table at its center. A map of the greater Syliras region is carved as a relief on its face. Frist's offices are on the left, and Whitevine's are on the right. Both men will occasionally share a private meal together or with advisers to discuss ongoing problems, and affairs. These meals are invitation only.

The Yard

The Bailey

The yard, within the walls of the Garrison, is used for training, sparring, special ceremonies, and announcements. Typically grass grows here in the less traveled areas, though all it takes is a day of intense training to turn this occasional field of green into a mud pie. A lone stone statue rests in the middle of the Bailey atop a stone block. Ser Rolan Brock, founder of the Mithryn Outpost stands silent and solemn for all time. The words “You reap what you sow. Sow good seed and reap bountiful harvest.”

DoB: 47th of Fall 471 A.V
PoB: Syliras
Title: Knight Quarter Master
Skills: 35 Rhetoric, 55 Socialization, 65 Intelligence, 80 Organization, 35 Planning, 37 Weapon: Long Sword, 35 Weapon: Parma, 26 weapon: Spear, 30 Weapon: Dagger, 32 Weapon: Short Bow, 36 Riding: Horse
Gnosis: 2 Sylir
Additional Info: Knight Quarter Master Bastion Toth is a seemingly gruff man. Born and raised in Syliras he spent his youth working for Lucious Antinous V, repairing armor, and weaponry. Not especially skilled in combat or creation of arms and armor, Bastion did have an impressive memory. When he was but a squire he had memorized all but the most exotic of items and their uses.

Ser Toth isn’t a renowned conversationalist. He’s more likely to say as little as possible and only what is necessary, unless you talk about arms and armor. You may as well pour lamp oil on a fire, because once Bastion starts talking about a particular weapon you've brought him or what the latest trends in armor craft are in Syliras it’s almost impossible to get him to stop. Gods forbid you bring him something new, because the only subject from his lips when you see him at Fool’s Errand will be what an amazing new item you've brought him, and did you know how easily it can cut through pork?

Morbidly curious about his favorite subject and mildly apathetic about all else, Bastion does have a weakness rare items and collectibles. Specifically weaponry, rumor has it he bartered a seasons wages on a rare Isurian Steel footman’s saber. Though, he guards his rare collections jealously, if you were to gain his confidence the opportunity to see some truly unusual weapons may come your way.

Moderator's Note: Feel free to use Ser Bastion Toth for general armory encounters.

Moderator attention/permission required for the following specialized encounters. If you want a special showing of his exotic items, you must have bring him an exotic item of some form or another for him to inspect and learn about. If he likes what he sees, he may offer you an item from his collection in exchange.

Yves the Page
ImageName: Yves
Race: Kelvic (Deer)

PoB: Ravok
Rank: Page
Skills: Weapon (Shield): 5, Weapon (Short Sword): 5, Riding (horse): 15, Horsemanship: 18, Animal Husbandry: 28, Foraging: 12, Wilderness Survival: 15
Gnosis: None

Additional Information:
Born into a life of slavery, it comes as no surprise that the young Kelvic's mother kept her gender mistaken for as long as possible. She even gave her daughter a traditional boy's name, Yves, in hopes that their master would continue to overlook the child as nothing more than another possession.

All too soon Yves outgrew her mother's abilities to lie and disguise. Her features blossomed into ones of tender loveliness and her limbs became long and coltish but undeniably feminine. She seemed to show a dangerous amount of compassion for a slave as well, going so far as to pity her master for the hard and cruel man that he was. Seeing her daughter would live a life of far greater pain and torment than any other of her kind, Yves's mother enacted a desperate plan. She sacrificed herself, making a blatant, clumsy attempt on her master's life, to give her daughter a chance to escape.

Yves had one, single advantage in being a Kelvic. She could run.

By the time she'd been smuggled onto a ferry and landed on the other side of the lake, it was too late for them to capture her. All it took was for the young girl to transform and make a mad dash for the forest before she had completely evaded her master's grasps. Bounding and leaping through unknown territory, Yves had come terribly close to dying on several occasions. With a bit of luck, animalistic instinct, and everything she'd ever been taught about surviving, however, the girl managed to make her way to Nyka. From there, it was a long but worthwhile journey to Syliras, after which the Order decided to initiate her as a page.

Although it quickly became apparent the girl showed neither aptitude nor fondness for combat, her way with animals and people alike earned the page a comfortable niche within Mithryn. There, she is perfectly happy to help others tend to their horses, maintain The Menagerie, and even occasionally assist those less skilled in dealing with their animal companions. Her sweet disposition is welcomed at the outpost and she is sometimes simply referred to as "The Page."

If anyone needs guidance or assistance, Yves is more than happy to help!

Moderator's Note: Feel free to use Yves for general stable encounters.
