Palla was very poor with math, and it was a struggle for her to keep track of her business' income and her personal expenses. Even if she didn't own a business, she would still have to learn to keep better track of her money. In fact, Palla didn't even know how much money she had. She had tried counting her mizas, but she couldn't add them all together. Palla was only left with a vague idea of how much money she had left.
Did she have 100 mizas or 120? She had gone on a shopping spree last season, and even that was taxing. While she could count up the amount of coin needed for an item, Palla didn't know how much she had actually spent. She guessed while looking at the coins, and she was a self proclaimed good guesser, but she couldn't know exactly how much she had just by looking at her coins. It was too hard to keep track of everything while counting, so Palla kept having to start over in a futile attempt to discover her value.
Of course, her value wasn't just in the amount of mizas she owned, at least not to Palla, and to others, she also hoped. However, Palla still wanted to calculate the amount of Mizas she had, and to do so, she needed to get better at math. Palla had set aside two bells, after work, to improve upon this.
Palla also needed to brush up on her Tukant, as while most spoke common, many Akalaks spoke Tukant, and Palla wanted to learn their language. She decided to go to the Valkalah Library, the place to be for books. There, she could get a better understanding of both math and Tukant.
Palla started off torwards the library, walking at a moderate pace. After a bit, Palla arrived at her destination. She greeted the Akalak librarian with a wave, and soon was walking along the rows of books, looking for one on math. She soon found a small section dedicated to math, and picked the book for beginners that looked the most comprehensive.
Palla walked deper into the library, away from the Akalak's gaze, and soon found a book on learning Tukant, thankfully for Palla, away from the Akalak's line of sight. She realized that she was in a section about gods and goddeses, and picked a book for between her studies of math and Tukant. Palla sat down at a table and looked at her books.
The one that held the most appeal was the book on Bala, the goddess of Fall and the harvest. Palla already worshipped the goddess of winter, Morwen, so this was relatively new, being born and raised in a city where it was basically always winter, but it captured Palla's attention, and with her curious mind, not caring much for math or Tukant, Palla opened that book first.
