Dangerous Escapades (Xen)

Tinnok watched in the shadows as the Dhani transformed, her mouth partially agape. It seemed to cause him pain, and to take much longer than it should as his body grew longer, his head taking true shape, arms coming out of a limbless snake body. She couldn’t see the details due to the darkness, but it was fascinating. It reminded her of morphing, how angular and obvious the transformation was, but Dhani seemed to have the inherent ability to do this written in their minds from a young age, all they had to do was practice their forms. It was too bad her half of Dhani blood didn’t carry this trait over, but that’s why she had taken up morphing, and not simply to turn into a giant snake, there were many other things she wanted to learn to do and utilize with the strange magic.

After the chimes passed she saw Xen’s claw dart out and snatch up the dried meat, swallowing It in one bite, causing the half breed to chuckle. At his suggestion Tinnok shrugged in the darkness. “Sleep not come easy, talk may help.”

She realized then in the heat of battle the two of them had never introduced one another. “I Tinnok.” She said simply, pausing in her speech to allow the Dhani to introduce himself as well. “Are you viper?” She said, wanting to confirm her hunch.

Tinnok was not cold herself, but she unrolled a wolf pelt from her pack and laid it down on the rocks, laying once more atop it, the pelt giving her a bit of cushioning between her and the hard rock as she rotated on her side to face the Dhani with whom she was conversing. “Should no hunt alone.” She said slowly. Why would a Dhani come out of the nest alone anyway? Food was necessary, but to risk one’s life alone in the woods just for a meal seemed almost desperate. Perhaps as a viper it was hard for him to get others to hunt with him? Tinnok blinked opening her mouth, then closing it. It would be stupid to ask if he knew Aka, just because she was a viper too didn’t mean the two were friends…

Instead of speaking again Tinnok merely listened to any and all words the viper spoke, the hissing a bit unsettling in the cave, but if she focused upon those ‘ssss’ it was almost soothing as well.

Dangerous Escapades (Xen)

“My name’s Ksssen and yes I’am a viper.”

Why did she chuckle? What a weird person.” Xen thought not realizing how weird he actually was.

Tinnok: a name that wasn’t quite myrian or dhani in nature—Xen liked it. However, there was something about Tinnok he forgot to check. The narrow pupils of his eyes expand and become large black spheres housed within bright white and circular rings. Xen checks the heat signature of his companion, trying to see if she was another ice bodied being. He had learned from his last encounter and added yet another thing on his list of things to distrust. Xen celebrates within his mind! He didn’t need to worry about that screeching—that terrible, chalkboard scrapping screeching.

Xen flicks his tongue nonchalantly and prepares his body for a long night of conversations. He did not think that all this would happen. This was supposed to be an ordinary day! He was attacked by a party of myrian’s and met Tinnok—the half breed. Xen could not imagine a life with the myrian’s, being a dhani and all. The animosity he formed towards the myrian’s for their constant badgering prevented him from giving them a chance and after this night, he would enforce his kill on sight policy.

“I was careless this day and wandered to far from my usual hunting grounds. I know now to avoid going pass the basin and alone at that.”

Xen wouldn’t bother the constrictors with his hunts and was a bit reluctant to ask. He didn’t want to appear weak in front of his cousins, the constrictors, and needed to learn the ways of the hunt somehow. There was that one time he was almost killed by that Black Panther but it in turn became his meal after the battle was over, revealing how quickly predator can turn into prey. Xen felt a yawn coming over him and opens his mouth. The two large fangs in his mouth stretch outwards as his smaller teeth flex within his mouth. He closes his maw after his yawn passes and slumps on his coils.

Kssen, that seemed something like a Dhani would be called. Tinnok nodded gratefully toward the male for identifying himself, suddenly becoming aware of just how intently he was staring at her. Tinnok had always had an inner war between what her blood was and the Dhani themselves. She had been raised to hate Dhani and view them as monsters, which in part meant viewing herself as one as well. She had always despised Dhani, but over the past year so many things had worked to change that.

It didn’t make his strange gaze any less strange, however, and Tinnok found herself grateful when his eyes drifted away and he began speaking again.

The basin was a particularly dangerous spot, a bit of a no man’s land for Dhani and Myrians, as well as many other dangerous predators of the wilds. Of course being a viper meant he probably hadn’t been born and raised there, but it seemed as if Xen knew the true danger he had placed himself in today, and Tinnok supposed that was the most important part of it.

Her body shifted, injuries pulsing painfully and she adjusted the pack beneath her head, feeling a weariness sink into her body that not even the memories bloody killing she had done today could shake. “Good you not die.” She said sleepily, curled fist rising in front of her mouth to stifle a yawn.

Barely a chime ago she had spoke of talking helping her sleep, and he had barely spoken a sentence and she was already dozing off.

“It was nice meet you Xen.” She said softly, yellow eyes drifting closed. A couple decades of fear and hate and paranoia about the Dhani and how monstrous they were jumped to her mind: Close your eyes and you’d be killed by the very being who saved you…

Her yellow eyes blinked open briefly, staring at the strange form the viper male took in his Dhani form, she gave a half yawn then inclined her head in the closest thing she could manage to a goodnight before consciousness faded from her mind and she drifted off into a deep dreamless slumber.

-------

It was before dawn when Tinnok woke again, which she could only tell by the haziness of the light that greeted her. Just as she suspected everything was sore, limbs stiff, and a pulsing pain in her head from her weakened state. Sitting up slowly to keep her head from spinning too much the half breed gathered her few things back into her pack, staring at the coiled up Dhani for a moment. She then slid out of the cave through the hanging plants there and out into the jungle. It was no longer raining, but everything glistened in the early morning light with fat wet dew drops, more than a few cascading down through the canopy to alight on the witch’s head.

Tinnok smiled and took a slow pace back through the jungle. What a strange day that had been.

Dangerous Escapades (Xen)

Postby Xen on June 18th, 2014, 6:26 pm

The End

“”

Xen nods softly, it was indeed an honor to meet Tinnok—she had helped him a lot. He had learned much about her and yet she knew little about his back story: which was short, saddening and would probably be uninteresting to listen to. Xen allows his arms to slump over his coils and rests his head, allowing it to tilt gently to the side. Tinnok’s words made him smile to think that she was the first person in years to be concerned with his well-being—it was heartwarming. Xen closes his eyes entirely, allowing his restless soul to find peace within sleep. There wasn’t much that he dreamt about—he only looks back at the memories, events now stored within the shelves of time.

Xen had overcome quite a few battles and in all of said battles, he almost met death. Fate had to be looking out for him or some deity of life was using him to spite death. However, whatever the reason, he was allowed to witness another day and a brighter tomorrow. The rain outside were like tiny epitomes of ease, reminding him of his love and affinity for water. The wind that guides the rain was no different and it too would become one of his many loves.

Xen listens to the rain and the wind and thunder until everything around him went silent. He was now a denizen of the dream world, his mind was temporarily tied no longer to the physical realm. What felt like minutes of corporeal weightlessness and serenity was actually hours in the ever awakening world outside his mind. Xen continues to rest: in order to restore the energy and blood he shed during his battles and would not wake until the sun caressed his face with its rays of light.

The morning came after what seemed like ages. Xen opens his eyes and looks around to find that he was alone—Tinnok had left. He sat up and stretches his body to loosen up his muscles. A big yawn forces his mouth open, revealing his two large fangs and the many rows of needles beyond them. Xen gathers his things and slithers from the cavern, he turns back to memorize the well-hidden passage. This would be an ideal shelter to hide in but he would have to find another closer to home.

Xen then slithers away into the jungle, heading home to where his bed and cavern laid.

“Until later,Tinnok.”

Loot :
Bruised neck: This will be painful for several days until the swelling has died down. It will be painful to eat/swallow and over-exertion of one's breathing.

Minor nicks on forehead and hip: Several days to heal, but otherwise not concerning

Puncture in thigh: Due to having the arrow lodged in the wound for an extended amount of time while being used, there is going to be excessive swelling and irritation. A normal arrow does prevent wide tissue damage. This will require intense cleaning to prevent infection and two to three weeks for complete healing.

Comment :
Xen, I have to mention that I was a bit concerned with your katana wielding skill in your posts related to your actual skill. Although you mentioned several times you weren't skilled (which I appreciate), the likelihood you would be able to cut cleanly through body parts (fingers, belly, etc.) is hard to imagine as a novice with it. This goes to the unarmed combat (pulling out of the eye) as well.

In another note, that whole thing with the eye made my stomach churn, so well done.
