Spirit was having a very, very good day. Namely, Uncle was taking her and Maroah sledding! Her birthday had been the day before, and Maroah’s was today, she was ten and her cousin was twelve. For a present, Maroah had gotten his very own sled… so they’d decided to go to Avanthal’s sledding hill to try it out. Maroah hadn’t wanted to let Spirit use his sled, so Uncle had brought one of his along for the young girl to use… a big leather tube that could fit two people, rather than Maroah’s fancy wooden one-person one.

The whole idea of having a tube like this, Spirit had decided, was to bring someone with her! She’d looked around their little group… and decided on her best friend out of all of them. Wind, of course. She’d bring Wind in the tube, and knew the dog would love it! Wind loved doing everything with her, after all… and even though Uncle didn’t think he’d like it, Spirit was absolute. Wind was coming.

When they reached the top of the hill, her Uncle set the heavy tube down with an ‘oof’. Already, leaving them behind, Maroah had sped down the nearest slope wooping. She hadn’t carried the tube, of course… it was far too heavy. Uncle held it while she slipped inside, which was the easy part… there were handles to grab onto anyways, if you felt like you were going to fall out. She didn’t think she would. The hard part was getting Wind to join her.

”Come on!” she called, patting the empty spot in front of her. Normally very boisterous, the Zypherian looked very suspicious about the whole thing, standing a good foot or two away from the edge and staring at the inside. His tail wasn’t wagging. ”Come,” she said more firmly, before reaching forward and grabbing him by the scruff, trying to drag the dog in after her. He took a few steps forward, then halted just before he had to go in.

”Don’t drag him… he won’t like it,” her Uncle advised, and Spirit just pouted. ”Wind. Come!” She tried to make her voice more happy and pleasant, to show that it was all right, and all good inside the little tube. Wind glanced up, saw that his friend’s face was happy and joyful, and shuffled carefully into the tube. ”Down,” she told him, and he scrunched into the little space that was left, burying his nose into Spirit’s legs. She put one hand on him to make sure he was steady, and the other on a handhold, before calling to her Uncle.

”Ready!”
