Anna hummed slightly as she walked along the path out of the Citadel, her expression actually rather relaxed considering the average hardships of Sahova. The tall woman scanned the ground upon which she walked, occasionally bending down to pluck rocks from the path. She would promptly pocket these items and continue on her way, heading down towards the harbor. The day was warm and lovely and the sorceress wanted to enjoy a bit of Voiding practice. With the continuing expansion of her talents in regards to the Void came the need to constantly continue to practice, to learn how very far she could take the practice.

The Sahovan Wizard was dressed rather raggedly, her clothing tattered and torn for the most part and consisting of a tunic, pants, and a pair of leather sandals. Her long black hair was pulled into a high ponytail; really she looked more like a slave than a free woman. The silver ring wrapped around her right ring finger however denoted her being anything but a slave in the conventional sense; in fact she was one of Sahova’s more powerful wizards. Anna enjoyed the relative freedom that influence granted her, however with it came some expectation that she further craft.

Soon enough Anna arrived near the harbor, however the tall woman moved away from the main part of the docks and along the rocky shoreline. When she came to a sufficient distance away from the harbor and found a relatively open patch of shore the woman smirked. There were no or few beaches upon Sahova that Anna knew of, the volcanic properties of the island tended to result in rocky shorelines. Little puddles and pools could be found in this particular patch of shore, waves crashing against jagged rocks further out as per the norm.

The tall woman removed the rocks she had collected from her pockets and placed a few in seemingly random intervals around the shore. She plopped a few in the pools, a few on the ground, one inside a thorny looking bush and even one off the shore and into the water. This done Anna looked around the area, noting where she had placed each rock with a nod. The distance for the most part was relatively close, meaning she had a good line of sight for most of the rocks. The exceptions were the thorny looking bush and the one she had placed in the ocean waters off shore.

Anna held out her hand, fingers curled and palm facing the space before her. She narrowed her eyes upon a singular point in the air in front of her, focusing upon it as she gathered the Djed within her form. She took the vital energy within her and forced it outwards towards the space, seeking to empty the space of all matter. It took about five ticks of concentration before a tiny black dot sparked into existence, the birth of the Portal being relatively gentle and smooth compared to how it had once been.

The sorceress smiled, willing an increasing influx of Djed to infuse itself into the tiny swirling black Vortex. This tasked the Portal to grow steadily, expanding as the purple peripheral regions reached out hungrily. She poured more and more of her own Djed into the casting, finding the task far less taxing than reimancy had once been. The Portal expanded larger and larger, even when it reached the size of the average man it continued to expand. The larger it became the more Djed was necessary to task into the casting, however it was manageable to the tall woman.

Eventually it reached the size where it could easily absorb a small carriage and likely the horse and passenger on board. As Anna stared into the wall of blackness before her she noted out of the corner of her eye tiny spots dancing within the Portal. She dismissed the figures as being figments of her imagination, instead focusing fully upon keeping the very large Portal open. Her expression was one of utter concentration as she stabilized the stream of her Djed flowing into the casting, holding the Portal open and maintaining the size. It was necessary to have it at a large size to test the accuracy of her newest test.

Once Anna had the stream of her Djed in a relatively stable state the sorceress grasped ahold of her connection to the Portal and moved her hand slightly to the right. The large Portal moved along with her hand, aligning it up for the next part of the experiment. It was best to start small before upgrading to larger and larger things, getting the basics out of the way first. Which was why she intended first to Void those smaller rocks she had placed on the ground itself. A simple task in theory, but she wanted to just draw the rocks into the Portal.

The sorceress focused upon the rock located in that direction on the ground, visualizing it in its entirety and its direction relative to her. From here the tall woman fed another influx of Djed into the Portal, tasking it to enforce a Pull on reality. She narrowed the Pull to just draw in that one object, the rock that was before the Portal and nothing else. From here she increased the strength of the Pull on the object, generating enough strength to eventually cause the small rock to spring off of the ground an whizz into the inky black Portal.

Anna shifted a bit to examine her handiwork, smirking as she noted that she had not drawn another rock in with it and only that rock had entered. However the range was relatively short, and there wasn’t much else around where the stone had been that could be drawn in. Increasing the range and the objects around the area would very much assist in an accurate gauge. First she needed to Void the other stone she had placed upon the ground itself, just to see if the results could be replicated.

She once again grasped at her connection to the large Portal; cutting off the Pull she had enforced to prevent unnecessary Djed drain. This time she shifted the swirling black vortex to the left, where she had placed another of the stones on the ground. The constant Djed drained to maintain the Portal was certainly draining though Anna felt she knew her limits enough to not risk Overgiving. She had experienced quite a bit of that in Voiding to know exactly where the ceiling of her ability was, and just how far she could push herself without stepping over the line.

The sorceress once again increased the influx of her Djed into the Portal, focusing upon the image of the rock upon the ground. From here she steadily increased the force of the Selective Pull, ramping it up until the rock would whizz into the inky darkness of the Void. As before Anna shifted to check on the results and smirked, noting that selectively pulling things into the Void required a bit more preparation time without a good line of sight. Something to keep in mind perhaps as she went forward with this experiment.

Anna opted to move to the side as she positioned her large Void Portal close enough to the pool of water she had placed one of her rocks in. With a good line of sight it would hopefully reduce the time it took to create a selective pull upon an object. The tall dark haired woman gathered more of her Djed and then added an influx tasked with bringing about a selective pull. She targeted the stone within the tiny pool of water, focusing upon that desired task. Her face became a mask of the purest concentration, eyes narrowing in focus.

The surface of the pool rippled and the stone under the surface wobbled about, leading to Anna increasing the flow of her Djed into the Portal and thus increase the pull. The rock did indeed come speeding out of the water; however it was quickly followed by a steady stream of water that was absorbed into the Void through the air. It was clear that while she could selectively pull at things; her control was still not quite perfect enough to draw objects. At best Anna would describe her selective pull as merely narrowing the scope of her existing pull.

Anna cut off the selective pull and pondered a bit on this quandary, perhaps she was just not narrowing the focus enough. If she focused more upon the stone than the water it was being pulled through perhaps the Pull would do much the same. It seemed a sound theory, so the sorceress prepared to try her luck once again. She licked her lips as she shifted the Portal towards the next pool, moving her free hand to grip around her upraised arm. The desire to cast more was beginning to set in, the euphoria slithering under the surface of her mind. A normal symptom of casting really and one Anna violently shoved aside.

Once the Portal was in position Anna once again fed more Djed into the Portal, tasking it to pull upon the stone under the pool of water. As before the liquid began to ripple as the Portal to The Other Side tugged at it gently, the force of the pull increasing steadily. It continued to grow and grow until the stone sped out of the water and into the Portal. This time, rather than attract a stream of liquid it attracted a number of water droplets from the pool. This was still something of an imperfection to the tall woman.

Anna again cut off the pull, pondering over the quandary before her, a puzzle of her own magic that she needed to solve. Narrowing the Pull even further had certainly accomplished a reduction in the other things absorbed into the Void, but still other objects had been drawn within. This seemed minor to some perhaps, but in Voiding that minor little bit was the difference between drawing a necklace into the Void, or someone’s head with it. Precision was necessary in this kind of thing.

Still, there was the possibility that it was the fact that Anna was using water to mask the stone was an interference with the results. Perhaps if she used something less of a liquid and more of a solid as a mask, that might very well produce a better results. As such the tall woman grasped control of her connection to her Portal, beginning to feel the drain upon her. The sorceress then started to shift the Portal in the direction of the thorny bush where she had left one of the rocks. The solid mass would hopefully provide a much better gauge.

Once her Portal was in position the tall woman took a deep breath to calm herself and to dispel the distractions from her mind. Within the Void Portal, shapes and figures that were impossible to decipher logically continued to dance. They were distractions in and of themselves, which could very well impede her results. Anna needed complete focus on the task at hand; nothing else could cloud her mind in this. After a few deep breaths the sorceress began to steadily increase the flow of her Djed into the Portal before her, tasking a Pull upon it.

The woman focused upon only drawing the rock into the Portal, narrowing her eyes. Moisture and a thin sheen of sweat had begun to layer itself upon her body, the drain on her Djed a constant thing. Some of the branches on the bush shifted and swayed a little bit, prompting Anna to focus even more on just pulling the rock into the Void. She cut the fact the bush even existed out of her mind, her mind only upon the rock within the bush somewhere. With that she increased the Pull even further, her jaw locking up and her brow creasing.

The branches were rustled as the stone was removed from the bush, however following it were a few thorns that were weak and easily dislodged by the pull. Anna cursed lightly under her breath as she again cut off the force of her pull, her concentration threatening to waver with her irritation growing. She had managed to draw the rock out, but it appeared that her fears were correct and that she could not quite manage to simply draw a single object surrounded by other things. This was not such a terrible realization but it brought a number of unfortunate facts with it.

The most glaring of these facts was that, until she managed to get down the method to selectively pulling single items that she could not effectively use the Void in combat situations. She could certainly attempt to use it; however it would not be as powerful as it could be if were it possible to selectively pull objects into the Void. If she wanted to merely disarm say an armed warrior, it was possible he might very well get dragged into the Void rather than just the weapon begin ripped from his fingers. It did not mean this was not possible, just that Anna could not accomplish such a feat easily at her current level of ability.

With a heavy sigh Anna decided to finish up the experiment today with a test of how strong her narrowed Pull could be. The tall woman gripped her connection to the Portal and started moving it towards the shoreline. Her steps were becoming somewhat sluggish and more trudging as her muscles began to feel more leaden. The longer she kept the Portal open, the weaker she would begin to feel. Already the desire to cast more and more was manifesting itself ever more powerfully. The sorceress could practically see visions of Portals miles wide, ones that would put her large one to shame.

Anna pushed these thoughts aside and gritted her teeth as she kept her focus upon the task at hand, tipping the Portal ever so towards the seawater. With this the tall woman narrowed her focus upon the rock she had dropped into the water below, which was relatively shallow. From here the tall woman added a final increased influx of Djed, generating a narrowed pull upon the spot where the stone was.

As before the water rippled and the waves around the area were disrupted, an eerie sight for most people to look upon. The rock below didn’t even move, so the tall woman increased the pull even further. More and more the force of the Pull was increased, the water beginning to reach upwards as a small vortex in the water was formed. Soon enough a small column of water was sucked into the Void, becoming more violent. Anna noted that a Hatchet fish was actually sucked into the vortex and pulled into the Void beyond the Portal.

The sorceress felt the desire to keep going pounding in her skull, however her legs were currently wobbling and the corners of her eyes were tearing up. Sweat was pouring across her skin, matting her clothing to her flesh. Her breathing became more and more heavy, signaling that she was quickly approaching her own limits. Anna did not want to admit defeat; she did not want to stop casting. However she knew full well that if she did not stop right now she would be taking a massive risk just for the sake of her pride in completing a rather pointless task.

With some regret the tall woman willed the core of the large portal to fill with a little bit of matter, signaling a collapse. The black vortex immediately vanished from her view, the air where it had existed rippling a little before returning to normal. The water that had been drawn upwards fell slack, the vortex in the water still swirling slightly. Anna for her part placed her hands on her knees in an attempt to catch her breath, the effort from having kept that large of a Portal open along with using a powerful pull being extremely taxing. Still, today had been a day of exploring limitations and with this knowledge she was better armed going forward in her craft.
