Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

5th Summer, 514AV
Pale light filtered through the wrought glass and spread itself over the blanket like a further covering. Slowly it drifted until red hair was aflame in light and pale skin seemed to shimmer and glow. She appeared lost in deep sleep and the dreams that wafted around in her growing mind. Every few moments her lips would twitch up into a sleepy grin.

"Fly higher Aska, let me taste the clouds!" The young woman exclaimed. Fingers entwined in soft feathers, a precarious grip. The foolish child thought to ride without her saddle. "Briza, we shouldn't be out here," came a chiding voice into her mind as they drifted back down to the platform.

Smile was replaced by tear as she slowly came awake, taking in her surrounds and shaking off the effects of the dreams. No matter how far she seemed to wander, Aska was always there. Perhaps those dreams meant something, perhaps they didn't. She had a distinct feeling of unease after that dream however, and felt the need to hide in the corner. Instead, she slowly climbed out of bed, stretching slightly to relax the muscles.
She looked down at the crumpled clothes on the floor "I really should buy more," she muttered to herself, pulling on the slightly dirty objects of her crinkled nose.

She found her backpack thrown into the corner and frowned slightly. She must have been very tired last night to throw it there. She grabbed it up and rummaged through its contents until she came across her glass handled brush, a pretty little thing but much needed for her hair. As she began to run the bristles through her hair, she realised with a start how long it was getting. When she'd first left Wind Reach it had barely touched her shoulders, fighting and training was no good with hair that got in the way, now she found it touching just above her buttocks. Had she been so distracted to have not noticed? That gave her an uncomfortable feeling too. Perhaps it was time to know herself again. Life had a bad tendency to escape ahead of plans, and she need to find herself again. That innerness that she'd known before the accident.

The floor was cold under her buttocks as she sat and stared at the door in front of her. It was a very simple wooden door, nothing fancy, but in its own way it had beauty. There was always beauty in the simplest things.
A slight grin graced her lips as she turned her gaze away from the sturdy door and looking instead at the cutlass that she'd rummaged in her bag to find. Though she had no real knowledge of such things, she was sure that it would be seen as beautiful. The eagle ingraving in the hilt had almost worn away. The thing she found most fascinating was that it was from Wind Reach to being with. Ranged weapons were their choice, not usually something this small that needed close contact to do damage.

She sighed and picked it up, turning it around in her fingers, careful to avoid the sharpened edge. She'd only ever used it once, and that was to cut meat that she and Aska had killed whilst on the hunt. Still, it fascinated her in the way only the unknown could. One day she'd learn how to use it, she was sure. It seemed down in this lower lands people preferred to be able to get in close, not stand from afar and shoot their targets down. Briza would never fully understand the excitement in being close enough to someone to be killed before you could kill.

She climbed back to her feet, it seemed that her mind raced far to much to be able to concentrate on how she used to feel. She stood with her feet pressed shoulder width apart, a stance that she used when preparing to use the bow that she used to have. I have to get myself another one of those she thought to herself as she held the blade in her teeth and dusted her pants off. The ground wasn't exactly spotless.

Removing the blade from her teeth she gripped it in her fingers, much like one would grip a bow if they were to hit someone over the head with it. She tried lunging forward and very suddenly found herself eating the dust from the floor. The blade had almost no weight and she over balanced, earning a very sore face and a mouth full of god knows what from the ground.

She growled as she crawled back to her feet, her hand rubbing the grazed side of her face.

With frustration clear on her face she threw the blade at the bed, inconveniently the blade stuck there, leaving a hole in the mattress and an ashen faced Briza. Even if she knew how to sew to fix it, she had none of the implements to do so! Again, a growl escape and she marched over to the damned blade and pulled it violently from the mattress. With a shout she brought it back down, in a hope to catch the original hole. Instead, it cut through another section, and as she went to bring it back up, the curved edge caught the material and it ripped in spectacular fashion.

In resignation she sat down on the edge of the massacred mattress "Well at least I can kill something," she admitted to herself with a slight giggle. She stared at the blade that now rested on her knees, once again wondering at it's origins. She had been told that it had been left with her when she was born, so presumably her mothers, though she never knew who that was. She had a pretty good suspicioun she wasn't a Dek, how one of those would get a blade was beyond Briza's comprehension, the other thing that reinforced that fact was how quickly she had become Endel, it was rare enough to almost be abnormal.

She sighed, as she commonly did these days and placed the blade back in the small piece of leather that she'd tanned on her journey, and stuffed back into the bottom of her bag. Until she knew it's origins it was just bad luck, and since she didn't know how to use it it was more than bad luck, it was dangerous.
