Kamilla Circe Gordon

15th of Fall, 514AV

It had been precisely two weeks since Kamilla had started working at Yvette's Dresses for All Occasions and precisely two weeks since she'd realised that she hated the establishment and it's 'ambitious' inhabitants. Upon getting the job at The Lord of Council's Office, she'd taken Trannaris Johnson's advice and showed up the following day looking her absolute best, eyeliner and deep red painted lips had adorned her face while copper jewellery and her short purple dress with a long lace trail adorned her youthful body and still the 'holier than thou' Yvette had greeted her with an air of disdain.

Since that day, Kamilla's dislike of the woman and her assistant(lap dog), Natalie, had only grown in size and intensity and it had become clear that working there each day would be an uphill battle, but she would just have to put on a fake smile of her own and endure their condescending existences for as long as she could.

Right now Yvette had her completing the, half finished, 'ready to wear' garments, as Kamilla, being the new girl, wasn't allowed anywhere near the custom made dresses belonging to her precious valued customers. But, staying away from the commissioned garments wasn't her only restriction, in fact, Kamilla wasn't allowed to do very much at all, other than finishing up work that Yvette had passed on to Natalie who then passed on to her. So, in the hopes of blocking out the perpetual torment, Kamilla had thrown herself into her work.

Kamilla Circe Gordon

Currently, Kamilla found herself saddled with the job of sewing the skirt of a dress to the basque and then joining the basque to the bodice, a task she had clearly heard Yvette assing to Natalie the day before. Unfortunately, one of the disadvantages of being new was that she currently ranked below the younger and air-headed assistant seamstress, even if the rank was only implied.

It had taken her at least two chimes just to thread the needle, but once she had gotten past that hurdle Kamilla wasted no time in getting started. Her workstation was tucked away in the far corner of the store, so that she couldn't embarrass her boss in front of her wealthy customers, something Kamilla suspected would continue until Yvette felt she could be trusted to suck up to whoever entered the store.

"New girl, are you done with that dress yet? Because there are two more for you to do before the end of the day."

The over the top sweetness of the assisstant's voice caused Kamilla to cringe involuntarily, a reaction she hid with a small turn of her head. For some reason, Natalie insisted on calling Kamilla 'new girl' even though she'd corrected her a dozen times, no doubt enjoying the imaginary superiority, a feeling that would hopefully be short lived. What added to the annoyance of Natalie's voice and general demeanour, was the fact that Kamilla had only been given the original task a handful of chimes ago.

Looking up from her barely started work, Kamilla simply offered Natalie an innocent glance, to which the perky assistant responded with a bright smile as she placed the new dress parts down and spun on her heel, quickly prancing away. A small sigh of frustration escaped Kamilla's lips at the short interaction with her co-worker, "Thanks Nat, you know how much I love doing your work." she muttered sarcastically, getting back to her growing workload.

Kamilla Circe Gordon

Getting back to work, Kamilla began by placing the skirt and basque parts together, making sure to allign them properly followed by carefully sticking several pins into the conjoined garments in order to keep them in place, something she probably should have done before threading the needle. Satisfied with the placing of the pins, Kamilla sat up, running her hands through her hair before tying the dark brown mass into a messy high ponytail so that it wouldn't fall into her face at inopportune times.

Retrieving her newly threaded needle, Kamilla began to sew the two garments together, slowly running the needle in and out of the material, creating a dotted pattern. The garment in question was, or at least would be, an unusual looking dark green dress, though she supposed no more unusual than any of the other dresses in the store. Even though Kamilla had been in Zeltiva for two years now, she still hadn't quite gotten used to it's culture.

The repetitive action of sewing the skirt to the basque was a simple enough task, but it still took Kamilla several chimes to complete the entire circle, finishing the seam where she'd started with a knot. She may have known how to sew but she was still pretty slow in her technique, having to concentrate fully on the pattern and spacing as she worked.

Once the basque and skirt were firmly joined and Kamilla's self implemented quality check requirement was passed, she moved on to the bodice, aligning and pinning as she had done for the skirt and basque before threading her needle once again. Just as she began running her needle(and thread) in and out of the material, she was interrupted by the false yet demanding tone of her boss.

"That looks absolutely dazzling on you, don't you think so Natalie?"

"Yes! Absolutely dazzling, wouldn't you say, new girl?"

Kamilla was caught off guard by her sudden summoning, having been so engrossed in sewing the dark green dress together. Her head popped up to look in the direction the high voices had come from only to see Yvette, Natalie and one of the customers, a snobbish looking woman dressed in a ridiculous ensemble of Yvette's making, all staring at her expectantly. It took her a tick or two to realise what was expected of her before Kamilla finally responded in an exaggerated voice of her own. "So dazzling." The words were accompanied by the most convincing look of astonishment that Kamilla could muster, hoping it would be enough.

The compliment seemed to suffice as Kamilla watched the tightly pursed lips of her boss twitch into a smile that still managed to feel cold before spreading into a massive grin as she returned her attention to the high paying customer, Natalie quickly following behind. The woman seemed to be flattered by their fake compliments, completely buying into them and deciding then and there that she would buy the dress, just another rich fool.

Kamilla sat back with a loud sigh of relief, she had somehow survived her first compliment call, something she felt like she would have to continue to do if she wished to keep working at the store. If she was learning anything from her job here, it was how to lie convincingly, that and restraint, as she constantly imagined flinging a giant boulder at her boss and Natalie's heads.

The short informal break ended abruptly as Kamilla realised she still had a ton of work to do, quickly leaning forward and getting back to sewing the basque and bodice together. The task took at least a dozen more chimes to complete, the thickness of the material making quick sewing a difficult feat to accomplish, but once she'd finally finished and checked the dark green dress, Kamilla draped it neatly over a nearby chair with a small smirk of satisfaction.

"One down, two to go." The mumbled words were lost to the sound of forced laughter that filled the room coming from Yvette and Natalie as they discussed the chubby state of the customer that had just left. Another sigh escaped Kamilla's lips, working here wasn't going to
be a walk in the park.
