Amidst the endless green expanse of the sea of grass lies a stout rock, peeking above the blades like the shell of a huge turtle, still slumbering despite the encroaching storm arriving with the dawn light. An observer, standing closer to the rock, would be reasonably impressed with it's size, it having appeared so small from farther away. The observer would also find, abutting the rock, the camp of a small company of travelers, perhaps a score in strength. And if this observer was inclined to step into the camp to exchange news or ask for a cool ladle of water, she would be greeted by a far less peaceful scene. Bodies are strewn everywhere. Whether from the original violence, or grassland scavengers feasting in the night, many of the bodies are mangled horribly. Horses are dead as well, but not as many as should be given the size of the party. Hoof prints lead off in various directions. If the observer was a magic user, she would certainly detect an ambiance of discharged Djed, thrown about to achieve a myriad of effects. A few of these effects are visible in the torn up landscape. If the observer had not yet fled in terror, and were inclined to investigate further, she might find a tent set up right next to the large rock, and in surprisingly good shape considering the carnage about it. It is simple, but made of expensive fabric, valued for its utility in this task. It is not ripped, but unfortunately stained with spatters of blood, were the observer thinking of taking it for her own. Inside this tent, there are two bedrolls, also both of high quality, soft and warm. One lies completely empty. The other is occupied by a crumpled figure. If the observer were to push away the luxurious pail hair covering the face, she would find the lifeless visage of a Konti, her agelessness magnified by her lack of animation. Her eyes are open but staring into the void. Her throat is deeply slit open, a clean cut but for the cascade of blood that spilled upon her light green travelling blouse. There is a chest at the back of the tent, upturned with its contents spilled across the ground. It is impossible to tell what might have been taken of these, though there are several items of obvious value laying amidst the possessions. Having finished her investigation of the scene, the observer may be inclined now to leave it behind, and do so with an unusual amount of haste. This observer would be unsettled. And given that Riverfall is the nearest small bastion of civilization, the observer would, in that haste, likely go straight there and report her discovery to the first Akalak she found there. Unless, of course, this observer knew something about the scene. Or was Zith. Or... |
The preceding is a scene on which my character’s near future will turn. The Konti described above is Koze’s mother. The empty bedroll was his sisters, an Akontak, who’s body is not among the dead. They were traveling with a party of about 20 or so. Koze will soon learn about what happened and set out, hunting for his sister and her kidnapper(s), seeking vengeance on whoever was responsible.
He may need help. Or simple companionship.
I anticipate his search to take him far and wide across Mizahar before it is done. I welcome anyone who wishes to come along for the ride, in full or just crossing paths for awhile.
Trackers and Guides would be useful. Warriors of any sort welcome. Characters who can craft, entertain, or simply provide good conversation on the trail would not be turned away, provided of course you can keep up, and don’t mind a little danger.
Maybe you also knew someone in the scene above.
Maybe you escaped the scene above.
Maybe you just happen to be going in the same direction, and are curious about the journey, or looking for adventure.
The path starts in Riverfall and ventures into the Sea of Grass, likely toward Syliras pending the whims of the moderator and the gods.
