5th of Winter 514AV

The snow was starting to convert Sunberth into an icy wonderland, the falling white crystals covered window panes, roads and much more. As the snow had fallen many of the elderly began to worry about how fast it was falling, they would claim it would be one of the toughest winter they had seen in a while, most ignored then but by the 5th even Aliara began to notice it was already falling heavily.

Aliara shrugged on her coat and gloves, it was freezing in her home without any fire as it was her coat wasnt that thick. Making a mental note that she would have to go buy a hat and a few other items of clothing the next day Aliara grabbed her cutlass and stepped out into the icy landscape.

Her breath formed small clouds around her as she sighed, the road was a muddy slush from everyone’s feet and had become a slipping hazard even with the fresh snow falling. Pulling her coat closer Aliara continued her way to her employer for the day. His name was Patrick, a tall man with a face and head full of hair, he was after someone to guard the stall for the day. Aliara had put her hand up but still didn't know why, why all of a sudden would someone want their stall to guarded? Was it because it was getting colder? Blinking away the thoughts Aliara turned left into the Common castle and faced with the familiar bustling crowd and the chatters.

Shaking the small snowflakes from her hair Aliara looked around for Patrick, her eyes briefly meet with a small group of gang members, but as most people did now days Aliara pretended she didn't notice them. Rolling her shoulders Aliara began to scan the venders again for the man the resembled a bear.

After a few chimes she had finally located the man and his stall, it turned out Patrick sold winter clothing, not so crazy of him to want protection then. Rubbing her hands together Aliara approached the stall and stood beside it. Pulling her hair back into a tight bun Aliara’s neck was faced to the elements, as the cold Air touched Aliara’s neck she shivered.

“Aliara Cantrell?”

Turning towards the voice Aliara was looking at the chest of Patrick, whom must of finished what he was doing, looking up she smiled politely and nodded. Offering her hand she smiled warmly.

“Yes sir, Glad to be helping you out today, what would you like me to do exactly?”

Patrick’s bushy eyebrows closed the distance between them as he frowned, Aliara just continued to smile politely and tried not to think about him expecting more.

“You’re very pretty for a good Mercenary…”

There was a hint of concern in his voice that made Aliara cringe inwardly, shaking off the thoughts and cold Aliara scanned the crowd behind her employer.

“Anyway. I would like you to watch over my customers and watch for sneaky fingers and trouble makers, if someone gets too rowdy i would like you to remove them and stop some thievery.”

Pretty simple, Aliara nodded and was dismissed, taking a quick look around she lent up against a couple of barrels and began to scan the crowd with her arms crossed.

Those sneaky fingered thieves (Amora)

The powdery snow was kicked up by the front of the thief’s boots with every step she took. The sight of the stuff made her grit her teeth. To Amora the sight of snow was a guarantee that she’d go hungry. The young woman made her way to the castle commons early that morning in hopes of finding cheap food to store so that wouldn’t happen. The sting of the cold air on her nose and lips irritated her and made her wish she could have just stayed home and curled up with her blanket in from of the hearth.

Inhaling deeply through her nose in a sort-of inwards sigh she placed her cold fingers into her coat pockets and rose her head to watch where she was walking. The thief couldn’t help but grin at the sight of a couple of kids throwing snowballs-more made of mud than snow- at each other. The snow wasn’t even very deep, yet they still tried to play.

For a moment she almost wished she could enjoy it as they did, but then she reminded herself that with its presence only came hunger- then pressed on. She was greeted with food and clothing stalls as she entered the common area. At least there was still food being sold. If she stocked up now maybe they wouldn’t go hungry. She could even get herself a couple more warm clothes to make it through the season as well.

Amora walked up to a stall that looked as if it had food in jars, passing by the ones that sold perishables. The last thing she needed was to buy a bunch of stuff that would rot quickly and make them sick from eating. Her right hand slipped out of the pocket it had been resting in to feel the cold glass of a jar that looked to her like it held some sort of mashed up fruit in it.

Her eyes trailed to meet the eyes of the lady’s who sat behind the stall, being very aware of the large brute guarding it for her. She had no interest in stealing from someone who could stand between her and hunger. “How much for this?

The lady smiled an ugly and near toothless smile, her speech holding small whistles as air rushed through the gaps and holes in her top three teeth that still remained, “I sell it for six coppers.

The price wasn’t bad and Amora was desperate, she’d be willing to hand over her coin. The thief dug into her pockets for the mizas- but found there were none. A confused expression settled on her face as she frantically looked for her coin. She squatted down and began to fish around in her boots in search for them, but still came up dry. She thought for sure she remembered to bring some, she remembered putting them into her pocket.

That’s when it hit her. Someone apparently was able to catch the thief off-guard and make her a victim of her own game. Petch. Now she was out three silvers and eight coppers. Her teeth gritted and she looked at the woman again and shrugged, shaking her head. The woman didn’t get angry like she expected, instead just nodded and waved goodbye as Amora walked away.

Now she was pissed. Not only did she have to deal with the cold, not only did she have to deal with the stress of possibly going hungry, not only did she embarass herself by trying to buy food without money, but someone actually stole from her! It was insane! Things like that didn’t happen often. Especially not in winter when she was always on guard in fear of something like that happening. She was petched. Now she’d have to find some way to earn the coin back and deal with journeying to the commons again in search for food. For all she knew there wouldn’t be any next time.

As she was about to stomp her way back to the Quarters an urge hit her. For some reason the thought of someone stealing from her own pockets set a fire in her and caused an itch. An itch to do the same thing and take back the control. It just wasn’t fair for her to be a victim, not from something she spent nearly her entire life doing.

The dark haired girl stopped mid-stride and froze for a moment before turning around to scan the area. She thought of trying to steal from the food stands, but she didn’t want to piss them off in case she needed to come back. Instead she let her gaze fall on a stand that held clothes fit for the season. It was something she needed, and something she wasn’t going to pay for.

The stall seemed to draw the attention of other patrons as well, letting a small crowd form in front of it. At first she didn’t notice any guard, her eyes were looking for someone huge and muscular- possibly a face full of scars. She figured the man who was running it was completely insane and didn’t hire anyone to help him watch his merchandise and be wary of thieves. With another look at the small crowd of about five though, she noticed one didn’t look as if she were actually shopping. Instead the woman was facing the crowd and eying them, as if she were watching them. Amora neared the stall, still keeping some distance as she further assessed the situation. Her body weaved past a couple of people who were looking at the clothing from a distance and she casually eyed the female. She was armed, and had a look to her that she knew how to use her weapon.

A female guard, and an attractive one at that. Never before had she seen such a thing and it almost made her laugh. Amora wasn’t even the slightest bit intimidated by her even considering the cutlass. She figured she could get away without her even noticing. With that thought she neared the stall more and her eyes caught a glimpse of a pair of gloves that she might like to keep her fingers warm. With one swift movement she grabbed them from the end of the wooden table stuffed them in her coat pocket.

The logical thing to do at that point would be to get out of there as quickly as possible, but of course she ignored her own warnings and teachings. Instead she eyed a beautiful coat that she knew she’d love to wear. It was fur-trimmed and looked thick enough to keep out the bitter cold. The thief wasn’t one known for her bravery, but she did have times of pure stupidity that could be confused for courage. In a hasty attempt to get away with two items, she grabbed onto the bottom of the coat and pulled it off the stall. Quickly she gathered it into her arms and forced her way through the bodies that blocked her path out.

Her heart was beating in her ears and a smile seemed to be carved on her face as she began to pick up her pace and run away from the scene.

It had to be said watching the small crowd in front of the stall was dull incredibly dull and Aliara found herself making fun of the patrons in her mind. Pig face, shorty and many others began to fill Aliara’s mind, it made her smirk only half listening to the crowd Aliara must have missed a shopper getting a slightly bit loud and aggressive towards Patrick. Pushing off from her claimed barrels Aliara cracked her frozen knuckles and came up behind the Patron.

Grabbing the man by the shirt Aliara dragged him away from the front of the crowd and off to the side, The man was slightly taller than herself and seemed to consider himself a strong man. He had dirty skin and his clothes werent that much better so when Aliara let go of him she frowned and wiped her hands on her pants. The looked around and rested his eyes on Aliara, he seem shocked that Aliara had pulled him away and that the vendor didn’t seem to question it.

“Leave.”

Aliara rubbed her hands together again and frowned at the man when he tried to make himself look bigger and taller. That would never work on her and Aliara was so sick of being underestimated by men and even women.

“No.”

The man seemed filled with courage however Aliara just saw it as stubbornness, looking into the man’s cold eyes Aliara ducked down and with one swift moment kicked his legs out from underneath him. It would have been harder if the man wasn't taller than herself. Succeeding Aliara stood back up and kicked some muddy snow towards the man.

“Patrick will not serve you until you apologise to him and show that you will be polite,”

Turning on her heel Aliara flicked her hair and began to walk back to the stall.

“Good day sir!”

She called out behind her before making her way back towards the barrels and settling herself in the same position as before. Patrick looked at her and Aliara nodded going back to watching the crowds as the moved around the Common castle. Making sure she watched Patricks stall more than anyone elses Aliara did however watch someone struggle to pay for some food only a few stalls over. Not her problem, she reminded herself. Aliara watched the small crowd as they touched and picked up the items, Patrick did have a great range and it seemed to be quite easy for someone to just pick something up and leave with it.

Aliara frowned slightly as she watched the crowd gain two new members, it was getting harder and harder to watch everyone and all their doings. Eyes darting from different people in a chimes notice ment that she started to miss things. The lady at the front was holding a hat before now she was holding boots did she put the hat back? Frowning Aliara took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. Deciding it would be easier to watch the table rather than the people.

Thats when she saw a beautiful coat slowly sliding off the table and then it was gone. Moving her eyes to the crowd Aliara waited to see someone looking at it however all she saw was the lady who struggled to pay for food hugging it to her chest and slinking away.

“Oi!”

Aliara called out, looking to Patrick she pointed at the woman before pulling her coat closer and following closely to the thief. Pushing people out of the way she began to slowly catch up with the thief. She was a woman with dark hair how had maybe fallen on hard times after the blizzard?

“Thief! Stop!”

Those sneaky fingered thieves (Amora)

Postby Amora Jade on December 20th, 2014, 5:47 am

The adrenaline that surged through her veins from stealing something bigger than she ever thought she could get away with in public was causing her heart to beat faster than it had in a long while. Suddenly the winter cold no longer bothered her as her body began to heat up from the blood that was making its way quickly around her body. Amora walked at a quick pace, trying not to draw too much attention to herself but at the same time trying to get away from there in a hurry.

The initial call out towards the thief didn’t even cause her to finch, it could be anyone the woman was screaming “Oi!” at. It was when she heard the word thief travelling from the market stand to her ears that she froze mid stride to look back. She shouldn’t have done it, she knew she shouldn’t have done it. Turning around only made her look even more guilty, and what if it had not have been her that was being called a thief? Then everyone who saw her reaction would think of her as one and it would ruin her ‘innocent’ appearance and make her have to stay away from the castle commons for a while.

Once her gaze had landed on the guard her heart began to pound in a much different manner. The woman was nearing her quickly and wasn’t shy about pushing people out of the way to do so. Sure, Amora thought less of her at first for not being a huge macho man guard, but now she was second guessing herself. She had run across a woman or two in her past that could wield a blade better than any man, and this one was armed as well.

A small panic grew in her gut. Amora held tightly to the winter coat and pushed herself forward into a sudden sprint. The action put a large amount of strain on her legs and caused them to cramp immediately, but she knew she couldn’t stop. Instead she just gritted her teeth as one boot after the other hit the snow-covered ground and kicked the powder behind her as she ran.

Quickly she turned her head from side to side to try and determine which way would be the best to go to lose this woman. She hadn’t a clue if she was from Sunberth or not, and she hoped so dearly it was not.

A sharp pain began to shoot through her right side as she breathed and with every step she took. Amora was just simply not made for running so fast, and it was killing her. She could feel herself slowing down and instantly turned a sharp corner to enter an alleyway where she’d hope she could lose the guard.

Unfortunately the corner was too sharp for her to be able to shift her weight properly and turn, causing the young girl’s body to slam into the wooden building that made part of the area. Her eyes darted back once more, looking for her pursuer.

Aliara couldn't help but smile as she began to pick up the ace hoping to catch up to the nimble thief, Aliara wasn't much of a runner so when her chest began to tighten and breath began to quicken it was no surprise. The surprize was how quickly it happened, Aliara wasn't unfit by any means but it was still a short distance before she felt ashamed, she was not a runner.

The thief had not stopped which meant Aliara got to decide how to take her down, she could do another way and block the thief off however as Aliara watched the lady she began to realise that the plan would never work, she could get to halfway out of sunberth by the time Aliara made it to the planned ambushed site. As she continued chasing the girl Aliara found the ground became more slushy and harder to keep her footing, cringing she continued chasing.

She needed to work on her fitness and running if she was going to be ahead in the mercenary game Aliara would have to be able to run without feeling like she was dying inside. Chasing someone who was faster would always been an issue but if Aliara could at least keep up with them in stamina she could claim she was able to chase perpetrators down eventually.

As the chase continued Aliara noticed the thief losing speed and Aliara noticed that she was as well. Her chest began to tighten and Aliara hoped the girl would just decided to stop running, maybe sit down and have a little rest with a loaf bread maybe some sweet tea. Rolling her eyes Aliara gave her last push and managed to shorten the distance between the two, as if the gods had heard her complaints the girl rounded the corner and hit the wall slowing down considerably.

The thief turned the corner and Aliara pushed herself again and turned, before the girl had a chance to react Aliara threw herself at the girls hips and tackled her to the ground. The impact was hard enough to wind Aliara slightly however as she tightened her grip and blinked. Wrestling for the girls arms Aliara found herself growing tired and sore, she would have to get the girl to either pay or give the merchandise back shortly before Aliara lost all advantage.

“You…need to pay for that…”

Those sneaky fingered thieves (Amora)

Postby Amora Jade on March 22nd, 2015, 2:18 am

The mercenary caught up to the thief faster than she had expected her to. Before Amora had enough time to gather herself and regain her balance well enough to push off into a run again, her pursuer leaped towards her and slammed her onto the ground. The jacket she was holding folded under her body as the pair fell which gave her the smallest amount of cushion, but to no good considering the woman had her pinned to the ground.

The guard’s strength compared to her own wasn’t what she expected, and made her struggles against the grip seem useless. Why did she care so much? It was one coat and one pair of gloves. Then since stand was left without a guard several people were probably taking advantage of the situation. If they were, it wouldn’t be likely that this female mercenary would return still employed.

What the petch is your problem?! Get off me!” the thief brought one knee up to help push the lady away from her. The gloves she had taken were still carefully tucked in her pocket, but the jacket was being rubbed into the mud and ruined as she jerked about for freedom.

If she had just stuck with the gloves and not been so careless.. but she felt as if it were her right to take the jacket too. She had been stolen from and that wasn’t something she was ever going to get used to, no matter how many times it happened. Amora was a thief herself, to steal from her was basically like slapping her in the face. It was something she should have been able to keep from happening, something that should have been impossible to pull off. She hated to admit that there were better thieves out there in the world, ones that couldn’t be caught even if they made it painfully clear they were stealing.

Out of anger and frustration she thief threw her fist towards the woman who kept her on the ground, hoping that it would jar her just enough to make her escape and disappear into the maze of buildings she was so familiar with.

OOCSo sorry this is so short, I’m trying to get back into the game so my writing isn’t the best right now. Thank you for being so patient with me!

Aliara was panting by the time she had the thief pinned underneath her. The girl kept struggling, which was to be expected after all, she even brought her knee up in attempt to throw Aliara off. It didnt work of course, Aliara was smart enough to lean down even more there for trapping the thief’s knee where it was. One thing that Aliara was worried about was being fired for abandoning her post she had a valid reason after all and Patrick knew where she was going, well she hopped. The pair had landed on what she assumed was the jacket and as the girl continued to struggle it was getting ground into the dirt, that was coming out of her pay for sure. They continued to struggle, that was until the girl threw a lousy punch towards Aliara’s face. It was simple enough to dodge and grab her wrist.

“Girl! look! JUST STOP IT ALRIGHT!?”

She had just lost it at her, Aliara had never really screamed at someone but she had lost it at this poor girl. Groaning Aliara decide it was time to get up, keepng a tight grip on her wrist Aliara slowly took her weight of the girl and stood up. Pulling the girl up Aliara pulled her arm behind the girls back and growled softly in the girls ear.

“If i lose my pay because of this, i will be taking your hair as my pay. Just so you know.”

It was odd how Aliara was acting around this girl. she had never been like this before but she was just so sick of this city and the thieves and just everything about her job. Aliara wanted to be a dancer, to have fun in her life not to be fighting for every single job she did. Whispering softly in the girls ear Aliara tightened her grip on the girls arm.

“I don’t want this job and i don’t want this to be what i do, so pissing me off would be a bad idea”

Those sneaky fingered thieves (Amora)

Postby Amora Jade on April 7th, 2015, 3:13 am

Amora struggled against the mercenary who was fighting against her, not letting up a bit until the woman suddenly shouted at her. It caught her by surprise. The thief had been shouted at enough times in her life to be used to it, but never so close to her face and never in that manner. The woman was shouting because she had stolen something it seemed- it was more because she was just trying to keep her job.

The thief bared her teeth and tried to pull loose from the girl’s grip. She was strong. Poor Amora hadn’t enough strength in her to even reclaim her own wrist, yet she still fought. The movement from the ground and onto her feet she tried to use in her favor, let the pull of her weight work for her, but it still wasn’t enough!

A groan of exhaustion and frustration escaped her throat once she was pulled all the way to her feet. That was when things took an unexpected turn. The mercenary threatened the thief, but in a way that freaked her out more than any other threat had. The woman whispered it in her ear like some kind of psychopath. Amora tried to pull away a bit to distance herself from the girl, but she really didn’t want to lose her hair.

Once the girl leaned in to whisper to the thief once more she began to get angry. Who did she think she was? Sure she had a ton of strength compared to the thief but she didn’t care what the girl wanted or didn’t want! It wasn’t her problem and she didn’t plan to stick around to deal with it. As aggressively as she could manage she halted their walking and got in her face in the most intimidating way she could manage, “Let. Me. Go.” Amora almost growled the words as she narrowed her eyes and gritted her teeth, all while still trying to loosen the death grip the lady had on her wrist.

“Fine! Fine!”

Aliara just snapped and let the girl go with a slight shove. It wasn’t on purpose but she was over her situation, over the cold over her tiny apartment and over dealing with thieves. Looking down at the jacket she had stolen Aliara frowned, it was covered in dirt and grime yet all Aliara would think of was there goes her wage. Running a hand over her sandy blonde bun Aliara could tell that was going to be a nightmare to brush out. Her hair felt tangled around the ribbon that she usually used in her hair.

“I’m sorry all right! Its just my job,”

The Alley didn’t have enough places to look that would allow her to avoid the eye contact of the thief, Aliara was more worried but losing this client because she had ran off from her post. Leaving the stall unprotected all after a stupid jacket she could probably replace with a few coins. The more Aliara began to think of what she had done the more she felt a weight crushing down on her chest.

“Even though… I am terrible at it…”

It was something she hadn’t thought about in a while, how she might not be as good as she thought she was at her job. Aliara thought about she was in a fight, it was better than most but still her imitating her out of fight was the issue. Frowning Slightly Aliara looked back up the thief.

“I apologise if I injured you, I see now it’s still coming out of my pay either way.”
