15 Summer 515 Clyde's general job entailed keeping the base of operations safe in case of any great threat. Currently that was the sight of the main construction, holes being dug, trees being felled and cut, walls going up around the selected area for the outpost. However day to day there weren't that many threats to the base. They were far enough from most cities to not be in danger of running into other people, let alone bandits who preyed upon trade routes. They were far enough from the bogs and marsh that more Vinumia were unlikely. Hunters kept most of the predators at bay, and serving as food. There weren't that many threats to face, which meant Clyde had a good bit of free time in general unless he was called upon. On this particular day Clyde was a bit up the coast, away from the base and out of its sight, on a "scouting mission." This basically involved Clyde wandering about a bit away from the base, checking for any approaching threat. But since there were other guards on watch and out scouting, this ended up more as Clyde going for a walk. He'd invited Xii along for his jaunt, as they made their way along the beaches which in this area were a length of coast covered in a multitude of small rocks, pebble beaches as some called them. Though they weren't technically pebble sized, most were big enough fill ones hand, and an occasional one was a bit bigger. All of the smaller ones close to the shore were smooth and rounded by the wash of water onto the coast. In some places it was less of a pebble beach, and more of a small boulder beach. As he walked along, occasionally Clyde would pick up a rock, look it over, and dissatisfied with some quality of the stone toss it along the coast bouncing a few times before coming to a rest. “Alright Xii, we're looking for some good rocks. Solid, good sized, about the size of my fist or so. Oh, and also looking out for trouble, scouting and such. But first rocks.” |
