An Interesting Encounter (Vairial Blackhand)

Theft. It took skill. It took calculation. And It demanded stealth. All of these were required if one wanted to get money, or trinkets, without being noticed. It demanded perfect, precise, and quick planning. One wrong move and you were in very, very deep shyke. Especially in Sunberth, where there were no laws in place to keep a person from beating you senseless. Otaia knew this well, although she'd never wound up being violently injured. This was because she was almost never caught.

But that didn't make her cocky. After a run-in with one of the more... gruff Sunberthians the season before, she was far more careful about being caught.

Otaia began the process by casually leaning against a wall, so as not to draw suspicion. She then scanned the crowd for someone to rob. This usually only took a couple of chimes, but sometimes took almost a bell. But someone was bound to walk by eventually. The drunk ones were ideal, but the kelvic was up for a challenge. After all, she might as well enjoy it.

Otaia stood by the wall, awaiting a worthy victim whose pockets needed emptying.

An Interesting Encounter (Vairial Blackhand)

Postby Vairial Blackhand on July 1st, 2015, 6:18 pm

It was now early summer in the anarchist city of Sunberth, and already the weather had taken a turn, for what most would say is the worst. Indeed, it was just the beginning of the evening and already it was quite dark outside. Normally, the sun would light the sky for a couple more hours, but not today, not with the storm that approached. Already, the winds had started to pick up, a constant eerie howling could be heard from the air resonating within the tightly paced buildings and narrow streets.

Even so, the streets were bustling with people, although most seemed in a hurry to get indoors. Vairial could just feel the tension of everyone around him, no one wanted to be caught outside when it finally started to rain, but everyone still had things to do today. It was during times like these he figured people grew most careless, and thieves thrived within the chaos. It was too bad he was not a thief himself, perhaps he could have made a good amount of coin. Sighing, he walked casually along, careful to avoid those in a hurry. In truth he did not have anywhere to go or anything to do at the moment, in fact he was just waiting for something interesting to happen day to day.

He would have to start somewhere soon however, he was running out of coin, and patience. He knew exactly what he wanted to do in this city, but it was not the time yet... For now he would need to go a different route to survive. Shrugging, the symmenestra turned and started to head back to his apartment, walking along a crowded street as the first few drops began to fall.

OOCSorry for the wait.

As a faint drizzle began to fall, Otaia grew impatient, her eyes scanning the crowd for someone to rob. She pulled her hood over her head. Clothes could be quite annoying at times, but she had to admit their convenience when it came to keeping dry. Her excitement with the anticipation of getting cash was quickly gone, and she just wanted to get her job over with.

Petch it. Otaia stopped trying to find someone easy to rob, finally just approaching the next person she saw, a man with long, light-colored hair. Otaia hurried behind him, passing by as her hand slipped into his pocket. As he walked, the pocket pulled on her hand. Not again, the kelvic thought, sure she'd been caught. She quickly yanked her hand out of the pocket, coins still in hand.

An Interesting Encounter (Vairial Blackhand)

One simple sensation felt and Vairial's day grew many times more interesting. Someone had just stolen from him, and from scanning the crowd around him he immediately identified the culprit as he spotted a short woman hurrying away from him. Normally, one would yell at the top of their lungs, pointing out the culprit, but that was too boring.

Stifling a vicious grin at the notion of the fun he would have he kept his face blank and continued walking as if nothing happened, while still keeping a close eye on the woman. He hoped she would figure she had gotten away, and not notice him from then on until he wanted her too. For now he would act natural as he trailed her from a safe distance among the crowds of people hurrying through the now intensifying rain.

Otaia exhaled in relief when the person she stole from didn't turn around. The kelvic pulled her hood over her head, beginning to hurry away. After a few paces, she realized how suspicious she must seem, scurrying in fear. She quickly straightened up, pulling her hood back.

Her heartbeat had not yet subsided, and she walked at a brisk pace, turning off into an alley, so as to count her loot without being disturbed, or caught. After such a close call, the kelvic couldn't be too careful. Although it was mostly paranoia, Otaia glanced behind her, making sure the person she robbed didn't follow her. She took a few deep breaths, before darting into the alley. Leaning against the wall, the raccoon finally opened her fist. Sitting in the palm of her hand were a gold Miza and two Silvers. She grinned, glad that she at least got something.
