The Wilderness of Cyphrus is an endless sea of tall grass that rolls just like the oceans themselves. Geysers kiss the sky with their steamy breath, and mysterious craters create microworlds all their own. But above all danger lives here in the tall grass in the form of fierce wild creatures; elegant serpents that swim through the land like whales through the ocean and fierce packs of glassbeaks that hunt in packs which are only kept at bay by fires. Traverse it carefully, with a guide if possible, for those that venture alone endanger themselves in countless ways.

The Sea of Grass

The grasslands were quiet, even the storm god, Zulrav, seemed to have left the plain in relative peace after a few days of thunder. There was a strange calm about the grasslands that made the air feel almost static and as the wolf traversed the golden Sea of Grass, the only sound to be heard was the fall of his own footsteps and soft rustle of the tall grass as it bowed to let him pass.

The smell of smoke and cooking oils hung heavy in the air, reminding the wolf that the city of tents was not far behind him, just a half mile from his current location. Mixed with the enticing smells and earthy spices of the Drykas cooking pots, was the wild, alluring pull of the grasslands which seemed to stretch out for miles and miles with no end in sight. The Kelvic would need to be clever if he planned not to lose himself to the golden tide, as being able to navigate his way home was paramount.

Beneath his paws the earth was soft and forgiven; the snowfall that had lightly blanketed the land a few days prior had already melted away and this morning, Syna showed her face again, rising high above the horizon to peek between the clouds and warm all who dared to travel and hunt this late in the fall.

Were the wolf observant, he might recognise the familiar smell of rabbit on the air, or notice the small footprints dotted between the winding paths cut through the grasslands. Nearby the sound of a small, running stream could be heard and where there was water, one could always find something worthwhile of chasing if they knew where to go and what to follow.

Follow Your Nose [Cayn]

[indent]Cayn walks through the warmed grasses, truthfully unable to discern exactly where he was by sight, each step of this journey exactly like the last. As he walks through the neverending landscape he smells the bittersweet odor of rabbit scat, He stops to smell the air, using his acute sense of smell. "Hmmm, there's more smell coming in from the east."

He turns to the east and makes quick progress under the sea of grass, enjoying what little sunlight shone through the grass onto his back. "Aah, I can see why these Drykas enjoy living in such a tumultuous place, it truly is a liberating lifestyle. maybe one day I'll count myself upon their members."

as he nears the smell of rabbits he ducks into one of the wavelike rows the grass makes when snow piles on it. True there was no snow currently, but there was not too many days ago. under these rows tunnels are created, inside of these was almost exactly the same as the top of the grass sea, neverending and amazing. except that there were occasional sloping curves, owed in part to the sloping canvas that is the sea of grass. Cayn knows that rabbits tend to live in these tunnels, as it protects them from most sight and allows a quick getaway in case of predators.

Cayn doesn't have to follow this tunnel long before he spies the innocent but chubby back end of a rabbit, His first instinct was to freeze and lower his entire body low to the ground.

Rabbits, blessed with an acute sense of smell, long legs built for sprinting and ears that swivelled and turned to pick up the slightest sound of any strange movements, including the light footfalls of a Kelvic wolf, were met with swift action; flee. The small, gamey creature did not look back to see if it was being chased as its heart thumped hard in its chest, a mantra to work and live by that seemed to sing, run rabbit, run.

In his wake the rabbit left a light trail of prints, but further on and free of the lengthy maze of tunnels the winds and elements had shaped, the buck was able to bound high above the grasses, making his whereabouts a little trickier for the wolf to pinpoint. If Cayn was going to eat tonight, he would have to use his head and what he knew about the lay of the land to guide him to victory in the form of a successful hunt.

The rabbit bolted, but Cayn's animal instinct kicked in and almost like magic, his body knew what to do. His very being became filled with a fiery passion for the chase, this passion was fueled by animal instinct, and the bloodlust that all predatory animals shared. It was as though his body needed to catch this rabbit, like it was his very life on the line.

He was immediately met with quite a fun chase, this rabbit wasn't stupid, he knew to try to hop over the grasses to cover his trail. But Cayn had the advantage. Very quickly Cayn realized that the rabbit was unknowingly running straight towards the town. This is mostly caused by the fact the gates always face the center of the sea of grass. Cayn hoped in the back of his mind that the guards didn't think he was a true wolf.

This was the fastest rabbit Cayn had ever chased, but his bloodlust would never allow him to stop chasing, even after their chase took them straight through Endrykas. As he ran past the tent he shared with his bondmate Amunet, He lets out an almost dog-like bark and The Silkena known as Camile runs out immediately and attempts to follow, but is slightly slower. As Cayn quickly gains upon the rabbit, He lunges and grabs the rabbit by the neck, biting down to kill the animal quickly. Ending a life is not something that Cayn does absentmindedly. This creature was born into his body like all others, and had no choice but to be a prey animal. Cayn is very thankful for the sacrifice and swears to not waste any part of the animal.
