Bandits Gambit

Postby Saga on August 31st, 2015, 6:14 pm

76th Day of Summer 515 A.V

It was a hot day today. But it was also an important one. Saga had joined the finest warriors in all the lands, the Syliran Knights as a Mage Knight himself. A powerful Arcanist he stood out however as there were next to no Akontaks on this side of the country. So he chose his Squires carefully so that he would have someone to talk to that understood his language as one would in his hometown Riverfall.

Two young Akalaks walked beside him on top of his Sungold as they patrolled the streets. Yanj and Amanis were his specially picked Squires who both specialized in Shield and Longsword. It was an honor to serve next to an Akontak being so far from Riverfall. They had never gotten to see one because they stayed elsewhere when they were born. But their parents had told them tales of long white haired Akontaks that were they by-product of a rare birth.

It was particularly hot today even more because Saga was not used to the weather in his robed armor. A rusty Katana, and Wakizashi on the left side of his sash and a Suvai dagger on his right he was armed to the teeth. Seeing as his Reimancing was very much invisible to enemies before it was to late.

Yanj spoke up after walking down a not so busy street, "So what brings you to Syliras Sir Saga?"

"Well the attack of the Zith on Riverfall led me to think we needed more manpower to extinguish a problematic race like them. They prey on the weak even Humans," Saga replied petting his horse.

"I feel the same Sir," Amanis chimed in, "Their likes don't deserve to breath, not after what they did to a friend of mine. Barely got away with his life."

Saga nodded, "In due time, but it starts now. We have plenty of filth littered that still needs to be dealt with before we take on the big ones."

While they were talking they turned down a large alley where there were five robed figures huddled together deep in conversation. However when they heard someone approaching one of them whipped around and stared. Everyone stopped to look at each other as the scene very suspicious. Saga wasted no time and he released his hand from the reign towards the ground. Concentrating his Res into the ground as a gas like substance.

He didn't like the look of this situation. He was right not to. "The Knights!" One of them screamed. Then he pulled his robes back to brandish a large Bastard Sword. As did all of them who followed suit. Then they began to charge at them.

An ambush in the middle of the day? Saga be careful.

Will do.

"To me Squires. Stand in formation. We shall defend ourselves and the citizens!"

Bandits Gambit

Postby Saga on September 22nd, 2015, 1:21 am

There were far to many foes for him and his Squires to bang blades with right now. He was still a Novice with the Katana and the Wakizashi. He needed a way to separate them so they wouldn't overwhelm.

They were about ten yards away and they were still in a alley that limited to many people from battle. Saga looked from house wall to house wall and made a plan. He quickly forced the thick gas like Res from his hands into ground used the stone in the ground to cover the area from wall to wall.

The goal was to make a wall between the trailing assailants. After the bandits covered five yards. There were three ahead of the other two by a few feet. As soon as the three crossed Saga's Res line, the Akontak Wizard raised a stone wall. The wall which was about ten feet tall, sprung up cutting the group apart. Shocked face were spread around even among his Squires.

"You are under arrest. If you don't come quietly we will be forced to defend ourselves." Saga said drawing the Katana from its sheath.

"You will regret crossing paths us Sorcerer!" The biggest one yelled with his Sword held high. He seemed to be the leader of the bunch.

"We shall see," the Mage got off his high horse. "Attack!"

Saga took the big leader who was short to him. Standing 6'6 Saga was still taller than most humans and Akalaks. Yanj and Amanis took the bandit scrubs. Saga could hear the others behind wall fighting to climb the wall. They would be dealt with before that happened.

The leader swung his blade with a might heave trying to cleave Saga in two. Saga held the Katana to the side and tried to block it, which he did but the force through him off and he stumbled backwards. The man wasn't to skilled just very strong. He regained his footing and swung his blade from down up aiming at his knees.

The bandit leader blocked it and returned the attack towards his head. Saga poorly put up a guard and was knocked backwards yet again.

Time to get it together if you want to prove you're a real Knight.

I'm trying not to kill him with my Reimancy so my limited skills with the blade will have to do Vurik. Give me a break.

I think he's the only one trying to break you right now.

The bandit resumed his attack and Saga got his head together and struck back as well.

Bandits Gambit

Saga could tell he would lose this fight. The bandit leader was much more skilled with a blade than he was. He wasn't even mounting an offensive anymore. Every swing of his blade and every attempted parry was him protecting his own life. The bandit leaders stroke was strong but at least Saga matched him or even was a little bit stronger than he was.

His squires were fairing a bit better than he was. Akalak warriors were born for this. They thrived with metal in their hands. However the Akontak was a powerful arcanist. He hoped to be the most powerful there ever was. But first he would need to learn both metal and magic to his disposal. To be a Knight truly feared across around the world.

Those dreams seemed distant with his sudden peril as the bandits blade bashed against his Katana. Yet again not giving him much room to make his own assault. He began to get frustrated and made a wild swing at the mans head not even caring about taking him in anymore. He needed to protect himself and his men. He needed to survive for many things.

But he was careless, Saga swung to wildly and the bandit leader made him pay. He ducked and brought his blade up and swung at Saga's exposed shoulder. It was lucky he was armored or a large gash would of opened up. But enough power was not applied and it glanced off and slightly nicked his helmet.

He backed away reeling from the attack. He had to find a way to deal with him less he died on his first day.

Bandits Gambit

This fight needed to come to a close. Saga's hands were beginning to tire from the consistent beating they were taking trying to ward off the bandit leaders hands. But it was easier said than done as this foe was relentless. People with this type of resolve had something to fight for, what did Vurik and Saga have to fight for. Power. Respect. Camaraderie. Things most wanted. He would not be stopped by any enemy.

Saga slashed twice with his blade which the first was blocked and the second one finally hit home and he was able to draw blood on the stomach of the unprotected bandit. He heard him cry out and grab the side with his other hand. There was a lot anger in his face, but it seemed to be so much more than that.

He looked like he hated Knights period. No matter who donned the armor. This fueled him as he dove at Saga driving his sword into the Wizards Katana. The force pushed Saga backwards and they fell backwards but blades still locked. First one to break it would win this duel. He had to hold his own. Saga fell back with the bandit leader on top of him and his blade pushing ever so closer to his face.

It was near inches to his face where Saga had no choice. He held his mouth open and began force a gas thin Res to exit. It was hard to will the Res to do his bidding with a sword inches from his face but he was a very powerful Arcanist, he had to concentrate. It started to flow into the mouth, ears and nose of bandit leader who had a strained face to begin with.

When enough of it begin to fill his lungs he began to start coughing wildly. Saga felt the strength begin to ebb away from the deadlock. Giving one more final heave he pushed him off with all his strength. He went rolling to the side and Saga rolled the other way and got up. "Feel my power!" And ignited his fire Reimancy within the bandit leader. His head burst in to flames and the screaming and coughing was cut extremely short as he died where he lay.

This distracted the other two bandits and his Squires in unison cut them down where they stood. Unharmed they stood ready for new orders. But Saga could still hear the other two bandits on the other side getting cold feet with their stammered speech.

"If either one of those two are still alive arrest them. I'll deal with the other two."

Let me kill them Saga!

All yours Vurik.

Vurik now in control ran back and hopped on top of the Sungold horse, with his Katana in one hand and with the other he held it outstretched towards the wall they created. Using his Res once more it stretched out from his hands through his willpower alone and it drew on the elements within the wall as he did before. This time he broke down the wall and it came crumbling down.

There were two scared bandits staring at them when the wall came down. Vurik gave them a feral maddened look and simply said, "Run".

Bandits Gambit

Postby Saga on October 1st, 2015, 11:22 pm

At least the bandits had the fundamental down to follow commands when someone more powerful has ordered. They took off running down the stretch of the alley.

Vurik wasn't all that comfortable running on top of Suni the Sungold horse quite just yet. They were just getting the hang of it. But the horse liked them, it could feel Saga's and Vurik's affinity towards life that was a bit different from others.

Vurik urged the horse into a trot that turned into a medium pace gallop. Suni caught up with the fleeing bandits in a no time. Saga had learned how throw a Fireball his first couple of weeks of learning Reimancy.

He had a very large pool of Djed and it was just dishing it out that was the learning curb. Soon after he became content he upgraded his Fireball into the Firebolt. A much larger, faster, and destructive fireball.

As soon as the bandits got within range, Vurik grabbed the reigns with his sword hand and with his other hand he began to generate a decent amount Res into a liquid ball floating in his hand. It was much harder to throw a Firebolt and ride the horse at the same time. It was to difficult to do so Vurik ditched the idea and pulled up to the side of one of the bandits.

Vurik went sailing from the saddle and tackled him from the back. The bandit crashed with a loud groan. Suni went galloping on and stopped a short ways away and so did the other bandit. But before either of them could react. Vurik pulled the Katana back and hit the back of the head of the bandit with his hilt. His face crashed into the ground and he moved no more. Instantly knocked out.

The other bandit suddenly furious stopped and whipped his sword out and came charging at him instead. Pushing himself up he could concentrate a little better now, he held his hand out and like he learned before ignited the outer core first. Right before it left his hand ignited the core and a large ball of fire shot from his hand.

It hit the bandit in the chest and exploded sending him rocking backwards. He hit the back of ground and shouted out in pain. Luckily he was wearing some chainmail underneath but it didn't do much except stop him from dying within the first hit. Either way he would be in excruciating pain if he wasn't treated soon.

You decided not to kill them? That's a first Vurik. Maybe I am rubbing off on you.

I could tell they weren't in on this attack on the Knight's. However its our life or theirs. If ours is in danger I won't hesistate for a second. That's how it works.

Indeed it does.

Saga's Squires caught up with them. "What now Ser Saga?"

"Now lets take them in. I'm pretty sure this was not an isolated event. Time to find out what else these scrubs know."

XP Award!

Name: Saga

XP Award:
  • Planning: +2
  • Reimancy (Fire): +2
  • Reimancy (Earth): +1
  • Riding: Horse: +1
  • Tactics: +1
  • Weapon: Katana: +3
Lore:
  • Armor makes a hot day hotter
  • Hooded figures down a dark street are usually suspicious
Shield Points: +2 for patrolling

Additional Comments:
  • First things first: I have checked on the Shield Point checklist, and your PC is not listed there. Which means I don't know if you are a knight or not, but you may have been missed off the list, so I sent a PM to Nightmare to ask :) If you haven't been approved, then I suggest you get that sorted with Nightmare or Plume. If you are approved, then please feel free to ignore me!
(EDIT: The PM I sent to Nightmare came back saying you are a knight, so please add your shield points to your CS! :) )
  • Please note that I cannot give you as many points as I would like to, as there is not enough detail. For instance, when you create res, to gain more points you should detail exactly what Saga/Vurik does to create it. I have been lenient this time, but please remember this for next time!
  • I also feel that there are not enough imperfections listed when performing reimancy. Your PC is competent, but that does not mean that he is perfect! For instance, the wall you created would not be as tall, or sturdy. Please try to add more imperfections and flaws whilst using reimancy, to keep your PC playing at competent level. Or, if you want him to perform these more complex actions, please give him the effects of overgiving! I would like to see more of that please :)
  • So please keep these things in mind, but feel free to PM me if you think your grades are wrong or you think I missed something, or even if you don't understand something I've written! Happy writing :) And I enjoyed your thread, I liked the ingenious way of setting that person on fire ;)
