It was brilliant how Noah managed to swoop in and finish the fox off. Three quick pecks, nearly silent, even in the stillness of the snowy landscape, and then it was done. Elann herself hadn't had so much exercise in a long time. The snow was horrible, making every footfall a hardened effort now. It had begun long ago when she first came out, and now her muscles screamed at her for running so much, enduring the feeling they brought. For how light Noah was, she doubted he was even tired, though through her bond she knew that wasn't the case. He balanced there, wings out in magnificent display over their kill, and in that moment she felt fulfilled.
The closeness between Noah's mother and Lanna had come full circle, and as she approached, she flopped down on her back into the snow, letting out an exasperated sigh. With a grin and a little laugh she turned to look at him, her brown hair holding in the hood that had partially slid from her face. There he stood over the now dead fox, watching her and with glee she said, "Well go on. That's the first big meal in how long? I love my lentils." she said with her all too familiar sassy Benshiran accent, indicating how she didn't come out here for the meat. She could boil an egg or do many other things for protein, but he was a carnivore, that was certain, and he loved his flesh.
With another sigh, she got up, knowing that she couldn't lay in the snow very long. Already she was freezing cold, but the brief recess caused her to gain a second wind and now she actually felt a bit warmer having run so much. "I'll keep watch while you eat. Then we can head back to town when you're done, maybe have someone cut up the rest for the furs and meat."
Letting out another little sigh of contentment, she peeled her eyes over the realm of the snow about them, making sure no other predator came along. The plan was, when Noah was finished, she would use her knife to drain what blood she could from the fox, disembowel what was left, and then stuff it into the sack. She had no idea what she was doing though, so as she finished, unless Noah transformed and changed clothes there and instructed her, she would plunge the knife into its belly, looking for the guts. Of course she would puncture who knew what, but like a prepared goat, she figured that the lower abdomen was where much of the hazardous guts were. Taking a little time yielded some semi positive results. It wasn't pretty for a fur, but maybe for small mittens or boot-linings of some sort, who knew. Eventually it was packed into the sack and they were on their way back to the city and she eventually to huddle up next to her fire.
