(Picking this back up. 8D)

Lynn grinned as Garland blocked her first strike, though he wasn't able to keep her second punch from sinking into his ribs. But Garland wasn't slow to react and while she was able to dodge the hook to the shoulder, the kick to the stomach hit home. Stumbling back, Suresslynn let the pain from the kick exhilarate her even further.

However, as Garland closed the gap the Dhani grimaced and tried to step back, but not before he got his arm around her waist and moved his leg to trip her. Knowing that if he got her on the ground, she was very much helpless, she gave him a hard shove in the chest as fast as she could and rolled to the side, coming up onto her feet. "Clever...I won't be able to just attack you wildly." she said quietly, pulling back into her stance. However, this time the Dhani just stood still, watching Garland and waiting for his next move.

Catherine was not good with her fists, so she couldn't really grade them based on her skill, but as far as combat goes, these two were quite evenly matched. It seemed that the only way one would win over the other is to outsmart the other.

Garland's going to have a bad time.

Garland circled Lynn, watching her arms rather than her feet, it seemed that she exclusively uses punches rather than kicks. He rushed forward and threw a punch aiming for her gut.

If his attack connects, he would reach for her head and push his knee up, hoping to end the fight as soon as possible, his experience from fighting on the streets taught him that if you're planning on winning a fight it is better to win it fast.

If his attack did not connect however, he would be left wide open, hopefully he could dodge out of the way, but it would be very unlikely, he was much slower than Lynn and much bulkier, but he would argue that he was tougher, and it would take much longer for him to be knocked down and beaten.

He felt quite happy with this fight, Lynn was great opponent, a real fighter. Maybe one day she could become Garland's regular sparring partner, though as far as he knows she doesn't use any weapons, and she wouldn't be available all the time. Not to mention actually finding her to spar, and she wouldn't even be able to spar with him in the training grounds.

A New Look At The Knights

At first Suresslynn didn't react as Garland charged her, but when he got close enough to try to hit her, she grinned and sidestepped just enough to dodge his blow, his fist brushing against his coat as she raised her own arm. His rush had been exactly what she had been waiting for and her right strait was aimed at his face.

Regardless of whether or not the blow landed, Lynn's next movement was a quick retreat to put a bit of distance between them. She knew that she was at a disadvantage up close and personal, since despite her enjoyment of her own pain, she was still fairly frail. Thus her fighting style revolved around evasion and letting her opponents momentum carry them into her counter attacks. "Patience...be calm and let him come to you." she muttered under her breath.

Glancing at Garlands patron out of the corner of her eye, Suresslynn noticed the lack of any real commentary on either of their fighting styles so far, which left the Dhani wondering if this knight really was as much Iros's superior in intellect and manners as she seemed. So far she certainly seemed his superior. Turning her full attention back to Garland, she grinned at him and awaited his next move.

Garland had been hit square on the face, he reeled back and almost stumbled back on the ground, but held his balance, just enough so he didn't fall over.

Garland rubbed his nose, feeling the sting of her punch on his face. He felt his blood boiling, he wasn't angry, but was enjoying himself too much. He loved a good fight, there had been plenty of times he fought before, but fighting someone his equal was always great.

He had fought a few opponents that were above his skill, and that just frustrated him. He stepped forward, testing her defenses with a quick jab. He needed to break through her defenses, she was fast, the best way was to feint his way through, and aim for her legs.

He rushed in, swinging wide, and keeping out of her range. It looked like he was swinging widely, but as his attack was dodged or blocked he dropped down on the ground and grabbed her legs and raised it up, so she couldn't run.

He was left open, but like this she couldn't run.

Catherine frowned at Garland, she could see what he was doing and what his plan was, but it was foolish to think this plan was a good one. Holding your opponent's leg while you moved in to attack is a stupid idea. He would be open to attacks, and he would have no way to defend himself.

"Garland, stay focused and think through your plans."

Garland turned and looked over to Sera Catherine with a confused look. It was an opening Lynn needed to break free and counterattack.

"Stay focused!" Catherine just sighed and rubbed her face, she had always said and drilled it into his head the few times they trained together, it was obvious Garland had talent, but he was just so easily distracted and had no drive to improve himself more.

A New Look At The Knights

Postby Suresslynn on January 11th, 2016, 1:25 am

Suresslynn had grinned as her punch hit home, but at his rush she frowned. He couldn't seriously be trying that again could he. And then he grabbed her leg, robbing her of her speed for the moment, but not really accomplishing anything else. Then he went and got himself distracted by his patron. She didn't even really give him time to to look back at her, she just sent another post straight at his mouth and pushed away from him, regaining her balance.

"Focus, Garland. If that happens in a real fight, you'd be dead now." she said, her grin fading into a frown. She liked Garland well enough, she didn't want to hear that he'd died because of some foolish mistake in a fight. Taking a step to the left, she started a slow circle around her opponent, until she was standing completely opposite Catherine. "Keep your eyes on me." she said calmly as she pulled into a more defensive stance.

As she waited for his move she glanced over Garland's shoulder at his patron. This one was definitely more of a teacher than Iros was, which was good since he seemed to be a bit of a scatterbrain. Hopefully Catherine could train that out of him.

Garland felt the sting hit him hard, a bit of blood dripped down from the corner of his mouth. He wiped it off with his hand and got back into his stance.

He shook his head, trying to get his head in the fight, listening to the advice, but keeping his eyes fixed on Suresslynn. He watched her feet, making sure that she's not moving in to attack.

His muscles tensed, he flexed his fingers slowly, keeping his hands and fists limber, and he also kept his arms near his body to guard any incoming attacks from Lynn. The Dhani is too fast, she would break through Garland's defenses easily enough, she wouldn't be able to do too much damage, but she would still do damage.

He needed to attack fast or attack smart. He was fast, but Lynn was faster, and he wasn't really all that smart. He had confidence in his skill in fighting, not thinking.

Sera Catherine on the other hand, had faith in Garland. The squire may not be book smart, he might not know the tactics written in books or used by the older knights, but he was street smart, he had lived off the streets, fought in the back-alleys, and ran away from the knights when they find him fighting.

He knew where to run, how to run, what to knock over when running and all that. She had not seen him fight a real fight before, he had already fought during the siege earlier this fall, she did not see him fight, but he had heard that he fought bravely for his first real day as a squire.

Garland tensed and rushed forward, he threw a straight punch, aiming for Lynn's face, he threw it slower than his other punches, mostly because it was a feint, he was going to try to use his legs to hit her right in her side. It was a simple 45 degree kick, but it was effective when it does it hit.

A New Look At The Knights

Postby Suresslynn on January 19th, 2016, 5:28 pm

Suresslynn blinked in surprise as Garland rushed her yet again. He was stubborn, she'd give him that, but he had to know this wasn't going to work by now. Dodging his punch, she swung her arm to hit him in the ribs again, but before her punch could connect, she felt his leg impact her own ribs. Letting out a grunt of pain, she rolled to the side to avoid being left open, then got to her feet and stepped back again, this time holding her side as the pain from the kick spread through it, exhilarating her even more.

"Excellent, excellent, excellent!" she said, her voice getting more excited with each word. "You're pretty clever, Garland." the Dhani regained her fighting stance as she spoke, but before they could continue, her horse started to get excited as well, rearing and whinnying at something in the woods. "The shyke's gotten into you now?" she asked, her tone confused as she walked over to her horse, who still seemed agitated, almost as if he was afraid...

"I think we had best wrap this up and get out of here. There's things in these woods I do not want to fight with." she said, getting her horse calmed down as she looked at the other two. "Things even worse than that mud creature we fought." she said, looking at Garland as she spoke. She was thinking of that flying, venom-spitting lizard thing from when she had met Archailist, but she suspected there was even worse about.

Garland gave a small grin, it seemed things were getting interesting. He had been too focused on Lynn to pay attention to his own horse who looked as if he was ready to fight himself.

When Lynn wanted to stop fighting he gave a small confused look, but kept his guard up, it could have been a trap. "Really? But it was just getting good." He said, still ready for a fight if Lynn attacks, even though she was already by her horse.

Sera Catherine was looking around, there was something in the wind or in her bones. She had a feeling it was time to head back. "Garland, don't be an idiot and get on your horse. We're leaving now, before it gets dark. Listen to your friend."

She turned her horse towards Syliras and said. "You still have a lot to learn. Don't waste your time taking risks." As she said those words, it almost didn't seem like the usually hard, no-nonsense patron knight he had met.

"Right, Sera." He blurted out, he clambered on to his horse, and followed behind Lynn and Sera Catherine back to Syliras.

I liked this! Seemed a little contrived at the beginning, but it quickly found its pace and I enjoyed the banter between the two, especially when it came to the boxing. Garland, I like how you left yourself open more than gave yourself an advantage, it really shows understanding of your skill level. Lynn, likewise, your voice with your character is PERFECT, I love how she balances whimsical with dangerous.

A few things, though: first of all, modern turns of phrase such as "Overlapping commands are like one of the worst things" simply don't exist in Mizahar, especially from Patron Knights of Syliras! Careful you keep the language "period", as it were. Oh, and it's "REGIMEN, nor REGIMENT".

Oh, and please make sure you go back and edit your post in the Request Thread to reflect the fact this one is now done and dusted. PM me with any questions and later 'tater!
