80th day of Summer 512 AV
The people were getting restless. They were waiting for their knight. The knight to beat up, the knight to beat up on and the knight to take bets on like some fighting pug. Bob was foolish to start announcing that there was a knight accepting duels by anyone. Even more foolish to say that he knew the knight's reputation. An honorable knight that followed Tyveth? Hah! What a lie. Well Bob already knew for so long that knights were normally liars, like him but that was besides the point. He was not going to face the consequences for it. Not when the unranked knight deserved it more for preaching stupid things in Zeltiva. He would have preferred someone like the Grandmaster if it was really necessary.
So who was Bob to not oblige? He could not help himself. It was in his nature. Running back to camp where he knew the mercenaries and ex cons were he announced on the way "if you think that the knight's have wronged you, there is one willing to prove himself just outside the gates at noon today!' and "lets try to put the grief of those who were taken by the storm" which he means the knights. "behind us. All thanks to a knight that wants to give us the show we all want to see" which is the akalak getting beaten up again...and again...and again... If that did not persuade any of them, Bob would just put it bluntly. With a trailing laugh, the joke was that "a knight is going to get beaten today in his own game!" He already lost one, what was another?
Back at the camp, another audience, another hook. Bob thought the best way to get them to go is to say "its time to prove to those knights" who always thought that they were better than everyone else "that there are other people more skilled than them" and who was going to do it? Obviously them when "you gotta beat him in the duel for all of us!" Bob said looking to the biggest man in the place. If not then maybe "you...you...you..." which were the smaller people in succession. Heck if they do it right then "maybe you will prove yourselves to their superiors and..." dare he say it? "get a chance to take their place as a fully fledged knight!" Bob would not know why they would want that restrictive post but it has to come "complete with benefits" right? He was not making any promises but he was just voicing out what people should be thinking about the duel, or what he thinks that the people should be thinking.
"Sigh..." too many promises, none that can be kept especially when the knight was a no show. Maybe he skipped it altogether? Maybe he was laughing it out with his knight friends about how he beat the Zeltivans in his duel that never happened. Bob was not going to profit off anything if there was nothing to take bets on! Worse still if the ones he gathered decided that they needed an outlet and chose Bob to be it. He had to think, fast. What was he going to do now? Maybe he should just run...but his reputation will be ruined, or he could run and find another knight. Yes...another knight, thats it! Bob ran wildly around the camp after telling everyone that "I am going to fetch our star" and that would be "Marcus! How would you like to show everyone the skills of the best knight?" before dragging the knight along with him not wanting to give him a chance to think exactly what was going on and voice out any objections until they got to the gathering.
If Markus asked anything else on the way all Bob would tell him is just that "I know you are better than any unranked knight but I don't think anyone else cares" which was true. Bob would have more confidence in someone he knew than some idiot preaching on the street. All that will be seen at the grounds but unfortunately Bob was too worried to actually make sure. The akalak could be at any one of the entrances to Zeltiva but who needed him? Bob had Markus now.
