This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

Wikus did not feel very secure about his own feelings. Chaotic as they were throughout an entire life, unable to ever keep them on a leash and usually being driven by them, they were now pulling him in a hundred different directions. In a way, he enjoyed the female’s being in some sort of mystical, unexplainable way, dragged into a relationship he didn’t quite comprehend, yet certain that it was not a relationship between thief and victim. However, that very same connection made him fearful, scared of facing and experiencing something new, as he was a man of tradition and novelty was never quite fitting into his lifestyle. Whatever it may have been, he buried it deep down and instead focused on reality, as fantasy had no place this very moment. His frown, missing until now, slowly made its presence known as that very same facial expression was his mistress throughout his daily life, rare being the occasions in which he was spotted without it. Just like he believed, the female was way inferior to his height, which didn’t surprised him at all. It was hard to find a woman that could match his perhaps undiagnosed gigantism.

Looking down at the bone, his eyes couldn’t help themselves as they hovered down at her breasts, bare and exposed. Wikus was an animal in his own way, immediately running his eyes down her naked frame. His eyes met the sight of the ugly bruise he had inflicted her with the help of a porcelain plate, once again making him feel somewhat guilty. And once again, he recalled how the female had been a bird before she was a woman, which he couldn’t help but feel suspicious about. What was this woman? She could’ve been using some magic to manipulate him, maybe planning to turn him into a toad or, the Gods forbid, a crab. Despite his gut telling him otherwise, he didn’t quite want to risk it. Finally, her words came forth, and he looked down at the bone with a bit of care, as if she had changed in some way to incite such reaction within her. ‘Called’ she said, Wikus’ eyebrows raising as he glanced once more into those dark eyes of hers. He was doing malediction, after all… He may have called her by carving the shape of a bird into a bone. If this was true, that meant he could summon even more women without much effort.

Leaving that tempting thought for a later trial, his frown increased once again as she shared her name. ‘Fiachra’. No way he’d remember that, considering his talent in forgetting names. Thus, he didn’t even try to repeat it back, mostly to avoid butchering it. “Wikus.” He said, his own made up name. Names were stupid in themselves, as they were bound to be forgotten when one perished. Why bother then, if every last one would end up forgotten? The earlier it was assumed, the better the transition would be. At least, that is what Wikus’ damaged psyche believed. He had named himself ‘because’, which pronounced with his own accent made up his name. It was like a statement as to why he did what he did, a clear sign drawn on his chest to state that he was the cause itself. Moving on from the subject, he was caught in the rather tense silence between two, tainted by an emotion he could not understand. It wasn’t lust, or at least not exclusively. It seemed like a positive emotion, or something that usually caused joy to a man, yet the emotion was tainted by others, made into a yarn that didn’t quite loosened up.

The female seemed to be pretty caught in his presence, which was nothing new considering his gifted presence. Wikus saw it, and kept seeing it, clearly yelled by her body language. Without permission, he raised an arm and pointed towards her bruise, his eyes once again landing on her breasts yet forcing himself to not stare as blatantly as he did at first. “Does hurt? Sorry I irk. Medicine?” If he was a bit less worried, he would’ve certainly reached out and press on it to see the extent of the damage. As he was no doctor, if she went ‘ouch’ he’d know she was truly hurt. This once he did not do anything similar, half worried and half afraid of her. It was a shame he did not have his shirt with him today so that he could help her dress up, mostly to remain within good graces with the local populace.

“We go medicine, woman.” He said a moment later, taking the choice for her. Letting go of her hand, if she’d let him, in order to recover his tool before heading into town.

Wikus.

He might forget her name, and this would be forgiven as long as he did not forget her. After all, her Raven brethren did not use names, they just knew each other. She would not forget his name though. If the gods themselves came to strip her mind from her, they might take all else but they would have a fight to take that. Wikus.

His expression shifted to a frown, which caused some consternation in the Kelvic, but since she did not yet know him well enough to know why or what would fix it it would have to be left as it was for now. His gaze also lingered on her body longer than a human would have found appropriate. 'Chra however, was not human. Caiyhas children did not bother with as much run around in these matters as humans did. She was used to the looks of men when she switched to human without bothering with clothes. If they pressed unwanted attention on her she just changed and left, it did not worry her. She was not wholly innocent in such matters anyway. Adolescent ravens mated when they liked for fun, 'Chra was no different. If Wikus was interested in her in that way, well and good. Though she found him more than attractive, she'd not really given it that much thought. It was easiest to put him almost unconsciously in the category of mate however, it aligned best with all her natures. Kelvic, raven and human.

She'd not given much thought to how he felt about all of this either. It did not occur to her that he was not familiar with Kelvics. That he did not understand the nature of what had transpired. Explaining and empathy in that fashion were not her strong points. She was a creature of reaction. She lived in the moment. She was often curious about things but she rarely really thought about them.

She looked blank for a moment as he asked if it hurt, she followed his finger to peer at the forming bruise, dark and angry. It was a bit sore, but really in the list of things she'd endured to get her, being whacked with a plate was the least of her worries. Before she could respond however, he'd made the decision. He pulled away from her, releasing her hand, but his use of 'we' set her back at ease.

She moved to follow him, watching him gather his tool as she responded with an easy shrug.

"Some, it's okay. Doesn't hurt inside. Not your fault, I started it."

This was true. She's been the one harassing him before she figured out what he was to her. She flashed him that quick grin again, dark eyes dancing and perhaps just a hint of swagger returning. Maybe he would be impressed with her, would see what a good Bondmate she would be to have if he knew some of the things she'd already survived.

Hand rose to her upper arm where four still pink scars could be seen cutting thin lines. She lined her own fingers up with it to demonstrate what had caused them.

"Fought a dead thing. I hit it with a rock, but it wouldn't die because it was already dead. I reckon dead things should stay dead."

Nose wrinkled slightly at that. 'Chra was definitely not a fan of the undead.

"And some seagulls, but I won. And like a flying lizard that spat.. I don't know, it melted things though. But I flew faster and better than it did. And a squid thing with a dead guy on it's tentacle, but it couldn't catch me either. And some weird dirt guys. And an owl, and a snake and a crocodile. Not all at the same time. And I yelled at a ghost!"

She seemed particularly proud of this.

"I had to fly forever to find you. But I did. Ha! The woman at the library said I would die. Pfft. Raven is best bird."

Just in case he started thinking that he wanted to have a Bear bondmate or, or an owl or something. She'd like to see anyone else manage what she'd done. Granted it was largely a lot of running away, but it had been successful running away. She was a good bondmate. Clever, fast, cunning. She would be useful. Yes, she nodded internally, this was so. He would see.

Listening to the female speaking was… odd. ‘Dead things should stay dead’ she had said, and he couldn’t help but wonder just in what mess he had gotten himself into. She was truly like a child, apparently boasting over some encounters she had imagined, doing so with a joy that was alarmingly disturbing for Wikus. Moving to where he had sat, he took the chisel and looked back towards the woman, once again meeting those mysterious dark eyes of hers that he felt envious of. Frown in full motion, he’d run his eyes down her frame once more, not in a sexual manner but more like to assure himself that this woman was real. HE didn’t usually doubt his own judgment, yet she truly seemed to have escaped a fantasy land. At least, her accent told him that, coming from a land in which people were people were birds and dead people needed to remain dead. If she told him she could spit gold, he would’ve seriously believed it. Scratching his chest, the expression on his face clearly showed skepticism towards this whole deal, as if the scratching could ease the discomfort in his chest.

“Find me?” He repeated, lost by her words alone by this point. “Here I be. What now?” He’d keep questioning her until he figured out what she was, and what her obsession with her was. The regrets felt moments ago were oh so distant by now, as instead the usual confusion and dizziness of ignorance swept them away from his head. Wikus even thought she could be partially retarded, something that was very common in his own pavilion, amongst other things. The countless generations of inbreeding made giving birth a gamble, the whole pavilion watching the child escape the bond and eagerly waiting as to how it would look. Sometimes they were normal, a plain crying baby that was born into the world. Other times, the child was born still and dead, which was immediately an omen of extremely bad luck. There were also times in which the child was born disfigured, twisted in a horrid way. Those children were left in the Sea of Grass in the night, where their cries would fade away when the Sea of Grass itself found someone that could benefit from them.

Wikus wasn’t very sure of his own mental capacity, yet even if he was born challenged he had made it further than anyone else. It wouldn’t surprise him that this woman was in the same category. However it may be, Wikus stepped forward and took the female by the arm, walking past her and taking her with him. He needed some time to think, to clear his head, and thankfully nudity was not very weird in Kenash. Some slaves walked named, heads down in shame, a procession of pain for those weak enough to succumb to it. Wikus had noticed how most simply ignored those slaves, voiding them from their vision as if they were nothing else but another tree in a forest. He was amongst them, too. Glancing down at the female once more, his frown was still present. Unfortunately for him, this nagging within him also told him that she wouldn’t go very far away, which was really starting to oppress him. The boardwalk continued, on and on, until the buildings of Kenash were visible once more, announcing their entrance within the city.

As he was freshly arrived from Riverfall, his knowledge about the layout of the city didn’t quite allow him to know where to actually take her for healing. Even if it wasn’t grave, he wanted to make sure of it before he sent the female away, his responsibility being to see her healed before his contract was over. Still feeling unnaturally nervous, he wished he had brought his pipe with him as he really wanted to sit somewhere and relax. Looking around as they walked, his eyes tried to catch a glimpse of anything that may indicate a healing facility. Restaurant here, restaurant there, clothing shop here, jewelry there… Glancing down at the female once more, he’d sigh and halt her. “Don’t know where medicine. Food instead?” Standing in the middle of the East Bank, his only hope would be to consult the girl in the Traveler’s Complex, whom seemed to know about these matters.

Even if the city was plagued with people, most of them had these airs of superiority Wikus didn’t quite enjoy. Still, they were much better than the blue boars down in Riverfall, whom he would’ve gladly exterminated if he had the means.

He did not look particularly impressed. Well, maybe it just needed some time to sink in. Or perhaps he was extra frowning now because he realized how dangerous her journey had been and was not happy about the peril she'd been in! Was concerned about how much more badly she could have been hurt. Was heartbroken over the thought that she could have died before making her way to him. Yes, this was a good conclusion. This fit the world as she wanted it to be, so she'd believe it.

She was however, slightly stymied by his question of What now. She wrinkled her nose slightly at the inquiry. What did he mean what now? She didn't know! Live happily ever after as best friends forever? She hadn't thought this far ahead. She'd not even really thought as far as the present moment. She just did things. She was fairly certain what nows were his responsibility. He pointed, she flew. He was supposed to be the one coming up with directions, purposes and plans. Was she going to have to start knowing the what nows? Was that what he needed from her? Was that her job? She wasn't certain if she was presently capable of that but.. she could learn. Yes. She had to learn more about him to figure out what his what now was supposed to be, but she would. How did you communicate that though? He didn't even seem to speak Common all that well. She supposed she'd have to figure out what he did speak and learn that too. So much to do!

How did you explain, in simple words, that the what now was entirely up to him because she'd spent her entire life looking for him and having found him would spend the rest of it utterly dedicated to accomplishing whatever it was that he wanted, that he cared about?

"Don't know, your choice." A breaths pause before she added "Mostly."

Just in case what he chose was to tell her to go away. Which he wouldn't of course. Definitely not. Though to be fair even if he did, the most she'd be willing to do was to switch back to Raven and follow him slightly more discreetly until he figured out that he did not want her gone. Relief when he took her by the arm and pulled her along with him. Not that very much pulling was required. If anything 'Chra was slightly to far into his personal space. Not enough that she'd actually bump into him and hinder his movement, but certainly closer than was generally tolerated or considered correct.

She stopped obediently when he did, watching him to see what he wanted now. When he said he didn't know where the Healers was she almost offered to go find it for him, to show him how good she was at scouting things out and how useful she was. Until she remembered that he was only looking for a Healer because he thought she needed one, and they were usually expensive. When he suggested food instead she decided that yes, that was a good idea. she didn't really need any more, but since that was because she'd stolen most of his, probably he was still hungry. Which meant if she picked food then she would be saving him money and looking after her Bondmate. Perfect!

"Food is good."

She agreed easily enough. Time to start asking questions of her own? She'd eventually learn everything she needed to know just from intense observation, but questions were often faster.

"What do you do? Job."

She added the last clarification almost as an afterthought. Knowing what he did might give her more insight into what she could do to be of use. She didn't hold much hope that the things she already knew might be applicable but you never knew.

The day would largely continue like this, 'Chra grilling a fairly recalcitrant Wikus for as much information as possible until he'd had enough an told her to be quiet. Still feeling cooperative, 'Chra would proceed to follow him around silently as a Raven, sleeping on the roof of his current abode.
