Sisas nods, satisfied. "If you'll let me measure the ssspread of your wingsss, then that will ssserve nicely," he says. With one hand, the Dhani reaches out to give Rikit a quick rub; by now the war dog has settled into a sitting position at Sisas's side, having determined that the strange woman was no real threat, at least for the moment. Sisas thinks for a moment; the price has been given and accepted, the area has been described, he's given money for the paper... Ah, yes, he remembers.

"There is the matter of meeting up to exchange final payment," he says, leaning slightly forward in his seat. "Isss there a placcce that you would prefer to meet?" Being a raven, Sisas imagined that Fiachra wouldn't be limited as to what places she could reach - not that Sisas was limited, either, it would simply mean revealing himself as a Dhani to the Kelvic sitting before him. Dhani were generally not well-received, and this particularly one greatly valued his anonymity. "I can reach anywhere in the cccity," he adds. "Ssso meeting place is up to you." The fact that they would be meeting after dark, presumably, would work in Sisas's favor if he needed to shift.

"Do you have any questionsss?" Sisas asks; he wants there to be no confusion or uncertainty on either of their ends of this deal. He's found that the best results come when all parties understand each other perfectly, and he has a feeling that this particular deal will be very beneficial to him, even if it sets him back several Mizas.

10 Spring - 516 AV - Sunberth

'Chra was in favour of having her wings measured. She knew she was on the larger side even for a Raven, having been well-fed when she was younger, not stunted by times of shortage as many of her wild brethren were. Plus she just liked people paying attention to her in a positive manner. It was easy to disappear in a city. To live there but have no one really take notice or care. Being seen, even if just for a short time, was satisfying.

"Now for wings, or after, at the exchange?"

That word too was relished slightly. The exchange. It sounded very dramatic and exciting. Like something from a song. Where did she want to make the exchange. His insistence that he could reach anywhere made her want to test him a little. To see if he actually could.

"Roof of the Drunken Fish is good."

Her suggestion had a few reasons. Firstly it was one of the very, very few three story buildings in the predominantly one story city, so his claim would be tested. Secondly it was private enough that it continued the shady, secretive feeling the word exchange conjured, since no one went on the roof there, but still public enough that if he did try and knife her he'd have witnesses on his hands. Instinctively she knew that Ssilas was not a man who wanted his face to be well known. Of course for those without wings it was difficult to reach. Possible, but difficult. He might refuse, this would be fine, she'd think of somewhere else or accept any suggestion he countered with.

"No other questions. I know where you want done, how you want it done, this is enough."

'Chra was not generally a creature of complicated plans. She had a rough idea of what she was doing and then off she went. All she really needed at this point was his okay. An indication that the meeting was over and she was to go and do as she'd promised and she'd be gone.

It takes Sisas a moment to place the building Fiachra names - The Drunken Fish, located on the waterfront, and one of the tallest buildings in Sunberth; at the time they're set to meet, the roof will be hard to see, but offers protection in the form of witnesses for both of them. He considers the thought for a moment before he nods. "Yesss," he says. "That isss a good placcce to meet." He can see that the Kelvic is having a hard time containing herself; she looks antsy, as though she's a heartbeat away from bursting into feathers and flying off. It's a bit amusing, and Sisas absently decides that, if he needs more maps made while he remains in Sunberth, he will seek Fiachra out again; she's smart, easily understanding what Sisas wanted, and she's eager. Not terribly cheap, but Sisas wouldn't expect anything less for a good quality map, even a small one.

As for measuring, Sisas thinks for a moment before deciding, "I would like to measssure your wingsss now. The light isss better now, ssso we will get a more accurate measssurement than if we were to try thisss later tonight, in the ssshadowsss." The Dhani gestures to his naginata, which is resting at an angle against the table. "I will make a mark againssst thisss, and measssure that later to give you more time to map. Isss thisss agreeable?" Sisas would make the mark with one of his daggers; the Kelvic was in no danger of being stabbed for now, and hopefully she knew that. Sisas didn't have any way of measuring the raven's wingspan right off hand, so this would give him a length to measure later, so that he and his acquaintance would be able to judge the distances marked on the map easily when the time came to memorize it.

"Okay."

'Chra replied easily enough. She wasn't feeling particularly threatened by him at the moment. Sure he could just stab her, or set the dog, who'd finally sat down and looked a little less eager to find out what she tasted like a few minutes ago, on her, but then he wouldn't get his map. Considering how many coins he'd already put on the table, and the number he was going to add to that when she was done it seemed like he really wanted that map.

Which meant she was safe until he had it and then he might decide to try and stab her. This would be a particularly worrying thought for the average person, but since it didn't affect her this moment, she didn't care. Besides, Sunberth was always dangerous, if you went around not doing things because they might be dangerous you'd wind up doing literally nothing. Likely not even breathing since that too could be hazardous in this town. Ever-burning Slag Heap and all that.

First though, since she didn't like changing too many times, it made her hungry, and sleepy, she glanced around. The gent behind the counter and his one serving girl had stepped back into the closed off kitchen, as they'd been doing on and off all day. Nonchalantly she rose, and sauntered over to the counter, appropriating a cleaning rag before heading back to her seat.

In her experience, if you acted like you were allowed to do a thing, people would just let you. Plus who suspected someone of stealing a rag?

"No pockets."

She commented with a shrug, placing the coins in the center of the rag and tying it securely in a little pouch. This done, she changed for him. She'd not been entirely clear on how he intended to measure her wingspan with a knife, but then she often didn't understand hows or whys. She hopped up onto the table top and spread her wings with a soft but rather satisfied whirr-kwork.

Fully extended, Fiachra had a wingspan of four feet and two inches. She was very nearly a useful unit of measurement.

OOC'Very nearly a useful unit of measurement' LOL that was a great line!

Sisas watches with a raised eyebrow as Fiachra steals the rag; she walks with confidence, and because of that, even though she's very obviously not wearing any clothes, she draws little attention. Something to think about, Sisas muses. Walk with confidence, and you can get away with some things. I wonder just how much you could get away with? The Dhani watches the Kelvic return to their table, explaining what she needed the rag for - obvious, now that she's pointed it out; of course ravens don't have pockets, and if she prefers that form, then she doesn't have any when she walks about in the nude - as she folds the money into it, tying a neat knot. Then she changes in another swift flash of light, and Sisas takes a moment to appreciate her form; she's a large bird, with gleaming feathers and an intimidating beak.

Sisas picks up his naginata, holding it with two hands as he lifts it up to align one end with the very tip of Fiachra's left wing, making sure that the shaft is level with the table before he picks up his dagger and makes a mark in the wood, just a little notch, enough to be seen later when he actually measures it. He can tell that Fiachra's wingspan is quite wide - as wide as one of his strides, perhaps, which would be quite convenient. Once Sisas has the mark made, he sheathes the dagger and lays the naginata back against the wooden table. "Thank you," he says politely; it doesn't do to potentially antagonise those who are doing you a service, particularly when they've already got part of their fee; Sisas has had others he's contracted cut and run on him(not that they got particularly far before Sisas got his money back). "I will see you tonight," he adds.

10 Spring - 516 AV - Sunberth

He seemed properly impressed with her Raven-self, which earned him a few points in Chra's mind. She saw herself as fairly average when she was human, but she was quite taken with her own bird form. Peoples tendency to confuse her with the Sunberths skull-crow population meant she didn't get nearly the admiration she might hope for, and people were more likely to throw things than praise. It was really the one aspect in which 'Chra could be considered vain.

Bobbing her head once in acknowledgement of his thanks, 'Chra beat her wings, taking off from the table, grabbing the makeshift pouch of coins as she went. It was fairly heavy, but for a short flight it was more than manageable. Unthinkable for long distances, but the hop from cafe to the roof several streets over where her clothes were cached away? No problem. Perhaps longer goodbyes were the norm, but to her mind, their interaction was not ended, merely paused. She would do the map he'd requested and then the interaction would be picked back up upon the Drunken Fish. Plus what creature of Caiyha had ever been one for drawn out goodbyes?

She flew for a few minutes before landing on a roof she used often. Changing, she dug her clothes free from the thatch that sheltered them. Wrinkling her nose in distaste for a moment, she pulled them on. Coins were transferred to pocket, rag and all. It helped muffle any clinking that might have drawn undue attention. This done, she let herself down into the narrow space between 'her' building and the one next to it, scrabbling rather ungracefully, legs first over the edge, holding on to the roof and scooting back until she hung from it. This done, as close to the ground as she was going to get, she let go. Bending her knees as she hit ground. It wasn't a perfect landing, but she didn't fall all the way onto her arse again so that was something.

Spring in her step she headed for the Seaside Market, you could get anything there after all. She wandered the stalls, going with the flow of the crowds, watching everyone and everything. Had anyone asked her, she was relaxed and enjoying the day, she would even believe that. In fact there was a part of her that constantly scanned in all directions for danger. Eventually she found what looked to be the stall of a travelling scribe, recording letters for those who didn't know their letters, or who had to sound out the words that were longer than one syllable. He had the materials she needed. First though.. Nose led her past to another stall, where one gold miza was exchanged for six silver miza and one hunk of meat and another of cheese, this left two gold miza and ten silver. Energy used to shift forms had to be restored after all, she still had much of the day ahead of her and there would be more changes to come. This was eaten in her usual business-like fashion, as fuel to be put in her stomach as quickly and efficiently as possible. Once done and hands rubbed clean on her pants, she headed back for the scribes stall.

"Can I help you? A letter home perhaps?"

For a moment, 'Chra considered it. She'd not actually communicated with her parents since leaving home. She'd not left on bad terms or anything, but.. They'd never really known what to make of their changeling daughter, who'd grown up in a flash before their eyes, who didn't think they way they did, who wasn't content with the life they led. Perhaps it was best to just leave them alone. Besides what would she say? Left Syliras, living in Sunberth, ate a man's eye, don't worry?

"No, I want to buy some of your paper and ink please."

"What would you want with that?"

The disbelief was almost palpable. The almost humorously slim, pale man pushed his spectacle back up as he peered along his nose at her.

"Record things."

Honestly. This one didn't even know she was a Kelvic. She had her clothes on and everything. She was quite sure no one had tattooed 'simple' on her when she was sleeping, so if people could give her just a tiny bit of credit..

"Hmm. Well. Parchment is two silver miza, true paper is four, a vial of ink is a gold miza or you can get a pack of ink sticks for three. One ink stick would be three silver miza."

Brow furrowed slightly and fingers moved almost imperceptibly as 'Chra did math. This was more expensive than she'd anticipated, no wonder Sisas had thrown so much money at her. She normally just scavenged for the materials her maps went on. Fires made charcoal, bark, wood or cloth scraps could be scavenged and drawn on. Still, she'd agreed to do it properly.

"I need.. One piece of paper, one piece of parchment and one ink stick please."

She decided after a few moments. If she was going to spend money she'd do it right. Rough things out on the parchment and then do it properly on the paper.

"That'll be a gold miza."

"What! No! It's.."

A pause as she checked again, more openly using finger now to be sure.

"Nine silver!"

"Well, I don't have the coins to make change."

A lie. A blatant lie. She'd just watched him being handed coins minutes before. Luckily she had him all the same. Without saying a word she counted out nine silver miza. Handing them over only once the scribe gathered and held out what she'd asked for. Two gold miza and one silver left.

Taking her purchases, she headed for a building she knew. Smiling slightly as she did. This was where Lo'Campo had followed her before. That had been a good day. Forming a pouch with her shirt, holding the end of it in her mouth, she carried her purchases that way, freeing her hands for the relatively demanding climb up the decrepit wall. It was made more difficult because she did not want to crumple her paper, it had been expensive! Still, after some struggling, she pulled herself onto the roof. A quick check of the paper reassured her that there was no significant damage.

Removing her clothes once more, she put the paper between pants and shirt, and tucked them all out of sight. The parchment she rolled up tightly and set to the side, along with the ink stick. Once more she changed from woman to bird. She took to the air, before swooping past to grab parchment and stick. Enjoying the feel of the wind and the freedom of flight, she headed for the gated community. As though gates could keep out the likes of her!

First a flyover to understand how things ought to look, where they should be placed in relation to each other. She lazily floated on the air currents, gliding, wings wide. Though she was also savouring the sun on her back, her dark eyes were busy scanning the view below. Remembering.

She landed on Goldfingers first. The stone building had a solid roof, nothing to worry about. She'd not be seen of heard unless she made an effort to be. In a display that would have been humorous had there been anyone to see, she stretched her wings. One wingtip just at the edge of the roof, the other pointing in. Then carefully, as precisely as she could, she spun, keeping the wingtip that had been away from the roof where it was. This was repeated until she had the full length of the building. It was probably not exact, surely she was off by an inch or two each time, but it was close. She was mildly stymied by the fact that it didn't come to an exact wingspan. It was.. Perhaps half a beak more than half a wing? That was surely good enough. This was repeated to find the width.

Making sure she was in the center of the building, invisible from the street, mentally repeating the results like a mantra, she switched to human. Unrolling the parchment, she drew, small and rough, the three buildings, as well as the few surrounding. Then, handwriting leaving much to be desired, she put in the measurements for Goldfingers. Measured in full and half wingspans, with the addition of beak or half beak as was necessary.

She'd met Sisas at around eleventh bell, she'd been in the market around a bell, and spent about a bell on this building. That meant it was around first bell, which meant she had nine and a bit left. Measurements down, she rolled up the parchment again and switched back to Raven. This was repeated on Silvertongues and the Sanctum without any real problem. So she moved to the buildings along the flat side of the triangle and did the same. She was getting a bit quicker at it, the spinning was almost fun now, a dance, a game, though she was careful not to get sloppy. Next across the street. She decided not to do across the water. If he didn't need it she didn't want to do it. There was still too much to do.

This all took several bells, she had perhaps three bells left and had scribbled all over one side of the parchment. It took her another bell to measure the spaces between buildings, and the street. A new unit of measurement was introduced. The hop. It would have been very suspicious for there to be a spinning Raven in the street and the alleys, but one hopping about, occasionally stopping to scratch at something? No one looked twice.

Finally she was content she had all her measurements. Rolling the parchment back up, she took to the skies once more, flying back to 'her' roof. Two and a bit bells left. She carefully, referring to her measurements as well as the picture in her minds eye, redrew the map on the back of the parchment. She made several corrections, scribbling lines out before being satisfied that it was as correct as she could make it.

This done, she fetched the paper, and redrew it once more, from parchment to paper. There might have been a stray fingerprint or two, but otherwise it was complete, and as correct as she was capable of. She waited patiently for it to dry. By the time it had to her satisfaction, she had perhaps fifteen minutes to meet Sisas. Checking one final time that all was dry, she rolled the paper carefully, almost reverentially, before changing and winging of across the evening towards the Drunken Fish.

Backbeating her wings, she landed carefully on one taloned foot, the other holding the map up, free of any dirt that might be on the roof.

Internal thoughts

Sisas had spent his afternoon working more on his part of the deal - not the deal that he had with Fiachra, but the deal he had with his acquaintance. This included striking up short conversations with passersby, slipping in the occasional question about the places he was interested in. Sisas was no spymaster, however, and he knew that when he was looking for information, he had a tendency to not be terribly subtle. It went against what most people thought of snakes, but those were the ordinary snakes, not the Dhani. The Dhani were part human, and much smarter than ordinary snakes. The only thing they had in common was a form, but even that was a just a superficial resemblance.

Since the Dhani knew his own shortcomings - or at least, what others would consider shortcomings - he made sure to stay conscious of his information gathering efforts, trying his best to read targets quickly and accurately so as not to arouse too much suspicion; when he saw the beginning of suspicion start to creep across their faces, Sisas often diverted the conversation away from the topic he truly wanted to know about, or even sometimes cut off the conversation all together when the person he was speaking to became more suspicious than he would like.

When the Dhani was finished with his conversations, he retreated to Tent City, locating his own tent and making sure that everything was still in place before he settled back into it, Rikit following on his heels. The Dhani took out a wooden brush, holding it up for the dog's inspection. Rikit sniffed it, and then, when his tail wagged, Sisas smiled; Rikit had been sold to him already knowing several commands, both verbal and gestural. It was time to test out an idea. Holding out one hand, Sisas closed all but his index finger, so that his palm was facing towards Rikit with just the one finger left standing - the signal for 'sit.' At the same time, Sisas added the verbal command; but this time, instead of speaking in Common, he spoke in snake-tongue: "Sssit."

Rikit obeyed immediately, although Sisas suspected that was more on account of the gesture than the word. Nonetheless he immediately praised the dog, giving him a scratch and fussing over him for a moment. The dog accepted the attention easily, tongue lolling, and when Sisas pulls back, he shakes his head fondly. Dhani weren't known for their attachments to anything or anyone other than their nests; but Sisas didn't have a nest, not right now. All he had in terms of companionship was Rikit. He couldn't be blamed for getting a little bit attached, especially not when he was attached to such a useful creature.

Raising the brush again, Sisas set to work grooming Rikit; he'd heard that grooming was an important bonding process, as well as feeding. If he wished to cement Rikit's loyalty to him, then he needed to bond with the dog. Ergo, grooming. The bristles on the brush weren't the best, they were fairly scratchy, but Rikit seemed to enjoy the sensations, if the way he pressed harder against the brush as Sisas ran it through his fur was any indication. When Sisas was finished, he had almost enough hair to create another dog. The Dhani makes a face as he finishes brushing Rikit, getting out the last few stray hairs, and when the dog flops to the ground with a satisfied huff, Sisas opens the tent flap and sweeps all of the fur outside to be blown about by the wind.

As he's sweeping the fur out, Sisas makes note of the time; it's nearly half a bell before he has to meet Fiachra, and he still has to shift and find a way to the roof of the building that won't give away a seven-foot-long snake. Sisas turns back to Rikit, who's watching him through half-closed eyes. Holding out one hand with the palm facing towards Rikit, Sisas orders, "Ssstay." Rikit huffs again, eyes sliding closed, and Sisas rolls his. He knows, however, that the dog will stay with the tent, and should anyone try to break in to mess with Sisas's things, Rikit will handle them. "Good boy," the Dhani adds for good measure; Rikit just opens one eye to peer at Sisas before closing it and sighing. Shaking his head, Sisas leaves the tent.

It takes him nearly a quarter of a bell to reach the Drunken Fish, and another few chimes to figure out his path up to the top of the building. My best bet is to go up the back of the building, Sisas muses. There's trees and other buildings to use for cover, and plenty of rough spots for scales to grab. Satisfied with his plan, the Dhani slips into the bushes behind the Drunken Fish, and, checking to make sure that no one will spot him, crouches down and begins to shift.

The shift is, as always, painless, though it's not instantaneous like a Kelvic's. It takes Sisas half a chime to complete the shift, pulling muscles and bones in and rearranging them, exchanging hair and skin for rough scales that can puff out when agitated to make himself appear bigger. When the shift is complete, Sisas no longer sees the world in color, but rather in tones of grey pockmarked with little spots of heat. Tongue flickering, the viper makes his way through the brush as carefully as possible before lifting himself up and beginning to climb the building.

Building-climbing while in full shift isn't his favorite thing - and it's made more complicated by the small bundle of coins in a rag that he needs to carry curled in the tip of his tail(taking a page from Fiachra's book, so to speak), but the Dhani is even worse at climbing while fully human, where he doesn't have the advantage of scales to interact with the building's walls and do most of the gripping for him. Sisas is careful about his route, doing his best to pick a path that leaves him unseen, yet offers him the best points to climb. He rests briefly against one windowsill, the top half of his body curled up slightly, and when he's regained his breath, the viper continues on until he can slither over the top of the building and onto the flat roof. There are remnants of the day's heat on the material, and Sisas pauses for a moment, looking around; he spots a shape that looks like a blob of heat on two sticks of smaller heat, one clutching and cold object, and guesses that it's Fiachra. Satisfied that there is no one else around, the Dhani hauls himself fully onto the building, moving away from the edge before he shifts back to human, groaning when he's resettled in the bulkier form.

"There," Sisas says, extremely satisfied with himself. "I told you that I could meet you anywhere in Sssunberth."

[Fiachra]Wings and Scales

Postby Fiachra on April 22nd, 2016, 9:54 pm

10 Spring - 516 AV - Sunberth

Fiachras reaction to a rather large, brightly coloured viper was quite frankly funny to watch. Feathers puffed and wings extending, she hopped on her one foot, beak open in a silent hiss and threat display. Ravens did not love snakes, and this one had given her a good looking over. She was just about to take off, because a map wasn't worth being poisoned or eaten thank you very much, when the snake turned away and started to change. Feathers settling and head cocking, 'Chra watched this, and in a bit, Silas was revealed.

She'd heard of the snake-people of course. Dany? Dhani? Some such. She'd never really met one close up or watched one change though. How interesting! Since he could change between an animal and a person, and she could change between an animal and a person, that made them basically the same. Raven instincts said snakes were not good, but 'Chra was more than just Raven, and was more than capable of setting aside such feelings, which was precisely what she did. Instead interest and curiosity immediately reared their head.

Wings flapped to take her back into the air and a favourite trick was done. One usually preformed with sticks for no one but herself, often staying Raven the whole time. altered slightly this time to keep the precious map safe and clean. Into the air, up, drop map, dive, change on the roof, catch map. It wasn't done particularly flashily. She didn't catch it with one hand, there was no little baton flip. She just judged her landing and her change and held hands out together to catch the paper as it fell.

"Did not know! It is good, very bright, handsome snake."

She commented approvingly, as she gave him a quick circle and once over. Not in a threatening manner in the least, just to check and see if there were any other surprises. Obviously nudity did not particularly concern her. It was the natural state of things, and there was no reason to make a fuss. She held the map out.

"Slow change though, hurts?"

He might notice her speech was slightly more clipped. This happened sometimes if she'd been Raven for awhile. Not because she lost her words, went feral or any such thing, just because short sentences was easier as a Raven and it stuck for a little while afterwards.

"Things were not exact wingspans. And I could not use wingspans for alleys. Too many eyes. used beak and hops also. Will maybe have to measure this?"

She'd put enough work into it, she wanted to make sure he could read it properly.

Internal thoughts

Sisas can't help the small, pleased smirk that crosses his face when Fiachra praises his snake form; the Dhani rarely allows others to see his viper, and even fewer to see the in-between form. So he's a little bit vain when it comes to his other forms; it's not exactly a crime, not when his human form is so plain. It's good for blending in, but not for much else. "Thank you," he says, his tone betraying just how pleased he is. "It isss not often that I am able to travel as the sssnake; I am too large to be missstaken for an ordinary beassst; would draw too much sssussspicccion." Sisas gestures to Fiachra, and the map in her hands. "That wasss a neat trick; catching the map like that," he compliments; it took coordination, even Sisas could tell that.

"It isss a ssslow change, but not painful," the Dhani says in answer to the Kelvic's question. "Can be taxxxing, though, changing back ssso sssoon after the firssst change."

Sisas listens as Fiachra explains that the maps were not able to be done in exact wingspans; he had expected as much, but the wingspans would be a good enough measurement even if they were a touch inaccurate. The man taps one finger thoughtfully on his chin as he considers the question of the length of beaks and hops, and then nods. "Yesss," he decides. "It will be a good idea to measure beaks and hops; will take only a moment." Bending down to pick up the small bundle of coins, Sisas gestures to the map in Fiachra's hands. "May I sssee the map?" He would need to examine it to determine if the Kelvic had earned her bonus gold miza; the Dhani had no doubts that the map would be good enough to use, but more information was always the better route to go, and offering extra money, Sisas had found, was often exactly the key to obtaining those extra details that could make a difference in the final job.

[Fiachra]Wings and Scales

Postby Fiachra on April 23rd, 2016, 6:29 pm

'Chra ducked her head in pleasure, acknowledging his praise. For a moment she wanted to explain to him that it had not been very impressive, that it was a Raven game and could be executed much better as a Raven. Catching things faster, closer to the ground, upside, from a dive, from a loop or tumble. It was one of the best Raven games, and she loved it. But she stopped herself, belatedly recognizing that while he likely meant it, he was saying something nice about her because she had said something nice about him, not necessarily because he was very interested. Right now, things were good, and they were getting along well. If she spoke at lengths about things he didn't care about, perhaps he would not like her as much. Approval was important to the Kelvic.

She handed him the map, rushing this post a bit to make sure Sisas has a usable product from this thread given that apparently she was about to be banned.
