The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

The sun was just coming up as Vick watched the sunrise while holding his pad and charcoal as he slowly rubbed the charcoal along the pad drawing from memory. It was another uneventful day for now for him and he was spending it alone again working on his art skills. His bag laid near him that held a small block of wood, carving tools and even a dog skull that he kept putting off for reasons unknown.

Today he found himself at the Kinell Hotsprings just near the water as he did not like getting wet around here. His outfit was a simple one compared to the others of the city, simple shirt, pants and a robe of all things that looked a bit out of place but the oddest thing about Vick was that he looked like a simple child. Short black messy hair, pale murky blue eyes, and even pale skin. So not most children he would have to say but as long as one did not look too closely he could try to blend in at times.

His unblinking eyes focused on the pad as he drew different lines and slopes as he made the random designs into art. One of the most common things he worked with in life was bones. This drawing was a simple figure of a skeleton of what looked like a human as he labeled each part of the bones and made a diagram.

He found himself going into a routine since he came to this city. He really needed to break it and do new things. One of the things he had to figure out what to get some type of income either by a job or freelance and sell his artifacts. He had an unused one that he could tweak and refine before using it and figure out a seller for it. As a Master of his craft he could make it worthwhile artifact and could get a good bit of coin for it or at least he could hope for.

He could use more money to help settle into the city. Find a home, steady income and reach out to new things with his craft. The biggest reason he found himself drawing was due to finding ways to improve his designs on bones.

His eyes moved up from his pad and looked about the area. It was a nice area but no one seemed to be around yet. Maybe it was too early? That was the downside of being undead as you never did need to sleep or even eat. You could get a lot more done over time when you did not need to stop for things like that. He even forgot what sleep felt like truth be told.

What was his goals for today? It was a simple question to himself but one that could mean so many things. He wanted to draw a few figures. Maybe craving the small block of wood into something and if he could find the spark of creation in his head he would work on the dog skull in his bag and try to see where he could sell it at.

How much did he need? That question was pushed to the side as he just shook his head and went back refining the drawing by adding more details to the skull and arms of his little figure. Adding more depth to it was not the hardest thing in the world but it gave him more hands on understanding of it. Slow and steady at the end of the day was the key he found. Even this he would take his time and refine it a few times before moving on to something else.
He needed a playmate he thought as he took another break. He was not paying mind to what was around him as he was lost in thought. What happened to his last toys? A few died, few ran away and a few were just tossed to the side at the end of it all. He was never easy on his toys and sometimes in Sahova he forgot to let them sleep or eat but it did not matter much.

Would he take care of a playmate now? Maybe. If it could survive longer than a season it would be something close to a miracle yet now since he had more access to food he could try to make sure they would not starve to death. If he could just remember how often living things had to eat. Was it once a week? Every few days? Or something else? Little details like that could easily be hard to remember.

A mouse comes out to play

She had ventured out to the Kinell Hotsprings, had ventured across the city in awe and fascination. So to find herself in such an intriguing and different. Even with as much as she missed staring at the sea, she loved the view Lhavit provided.

So she walked, leading her horse behind her and occasionally stopping to reach back and pet his soft forehead, pressing her forehead to his before pulling away. She felt connected to him, felt entirely at peace being around him.

But it was different. Very different than what her entire being seemed to protest with each breath she took. That she needed a connection, a physical reason to live. A bondmate.

But she was defiant, and had avoided building any sort of relationship besides the one with Mreva, the Svefra who had persuaded her to run to freedom in the midst of violence and chaos. She did it, and now, she was older, more aware.

She knew more about the world, yet so little. She wanted to go to the library in this city, wanted to spend her days and nights there, if she was allowed. She was willing to sleep on the floors if it meant she could research and find out skills and knowledge she wouldn't be able to find elsewhere.

Alair paused, watching the small figure who was drawing curiously. He was so....tiny. But his clothes told of him being much more than he seemed, as far as age went.

She didn't know what to make of this, of him, didn't know the first thing about approaching people or speaking to others.

So she opted for shifting, leading her horse a ways away so she could move close to the hot springs, to the other side of it, and after tying her horse's reins down, she slipped her feet into the water slightly, testing the temperature with her toes before pulling them back out. She curled up, staying close to the water but not leaving her feet in.

His eyes moved down on the pad as he started to draw the rocks near him and mimic the spring in front of him. It would not be a perfect match but it would be something new for him to work on as he drew out the rocks and little lines showing the water.

It was not very detailed as he felt like his mind and heart just was not in it right now. He just had to find something else to do he thought as he looked out from his spot. Not really paying mind to things as his unmoving chest moved with air and he made a visible sigh before letting his chest becoming still once again.

It would seem he was not alone he thought as his unblinking eyes looked upon a young female across the springs. Her long brown hair stood out the most to him but even after he looked at it he felt like she was just a normal human who came to swim a bit before the sun or people came out. He had to wonder if he took her spot along the rocks?

He would give a faint smile if she came near but he would just watch her for now. His focus not on her but deep in himself as he focused upon his magic as auristics flared to life. The world turning and changing into a mix of bright colors as he saw the water with a light blue djed, the rocks holding a deep earth tone but she had a mix of gold and light brown aura as he looked upon her with his magic.

He could pick up a lot of information with his magic but he mainly did it to find other wizards. Any wizard worth their salt would have auristics he found as you could not hide well when it was used. Facts about people could be gathered but it would be on the basic level but he used this magic to find magical artifacts and learn more about them.

Yet as she did not seem to hold any large amounts of djed he let the magic go as he smiled at her faintly. She may still be a threat but she did not seem to be a wizard which meant he was a bit more safe. At least he would hope so.

If she came near him he would greet her in common otherwise he would just watch. Like a large cat watching a little bird move about on the ground. Waiting and watching before either moving on or keeping an interest with the young lady.

She could feel herself being watched. Maybe it was the prey mentality or maybe it was just her being cautious and careful about going places where others were. But it was rather obvious. She was being stared at by the other person nearby.

She didn't know quite what to make of him, or how to go about talking to him, if that was what she even wanted. Her leg gave a painful jolt and she winced, stretching it out and letting her foot dip into the water.

Alair let her foot soak, let her leg stay stretched out so it would hurt less. Her horse nudged her shoulder ever so gently, and she smiled, glancing back at him before finally feeling like she could stand up. So she did, and then, left her horse by the spring still tied down. She walked, limping slightly as she did so. She moved over to where the stranger was and sat down near him. Not quite close enough to be in his personal space, but close enough that if she spoke, he would hear her. She shifted a little, the feel of the blades of grass tickling at her skin through the small hole in her leggings making her smile slightly. Then she focused again, looking at him curiously.

"...Hello. What are you sketching?"

She had golden eyes. Almost a yellow tone that stood out along with her deep brown hair. The only other mark on her face that stood out to be what looked like a small scar along her left cheek. Simple outfit that gave off the traveling vibe but Vick could not throw stones since his outfit looked out of place as well.

“Hello...I am drawing just random things for now. Seems my mind is more restless right now. Am I in your spot?”

He asked as he looked upon her while holding the items in his lap. He was not sure what to say but he was still getting use to having to be more social with people. When he was in Sahova he did not have to be social but it was more of orders. You either gave them or took them. While he took them for awhile he soon got to give them when he got his own office.

He flipped to a new page and looked at her. He was still getting use to using charcoal so he was rough with it as he never had a teacher to learn this from but he was slowly getting the hang of it. He was seeing using charcoal meant more of blending of light and darks and letting the contrast stand out.

Without even asking or probing into it he started to sketch her outline out. Moving slowly forming her wavy thick hair along her soft face. He would let the hair stand out the most of the dark color so the soft features would have a strong contrast on the paper.

“What brings you here?”

Vick asked trying to break the ice between them while he was working on the new drawing. Once he got the coin he would have to look into taking a class or two to learn more of drawing and tips. While he worked on it for his craft his main focus has been on simple shapes and writing. It was something new to draw figures like this.

His eyes were intense, dark. Different. She noticed that about him in the moment he looked up at her and responded to her question. She smiled slightly at what he said about drawing. "...I needed to take a walk. I only just got here a few days ago and I'm already restless. I need something to do. No, you're not in my spot. I've never been up here before. I don't have a spot to claim."

Her voice was soft, a lilt to her voice that was a little rough. Her eyes drifted from him to look around at the surroundings they were in. She enjoyed it there already. It was calm and peaceful. It was safe. She felt entirely at peace in this city. Another sign that she was in the right place, where she was meant to be.

She glanced over, saw that he was drawing her, and looked away to look at the hot springs again, not giving him reason to think she took offense. She hadn't ever had someone draw her before. She hadn't had anyone to talk to in so long, it was so new to be in the presence of someone and not feel immediately threatened.

"...Here, or Lhavit? Here, I just heard it was beautiful up here. And it is. But to Lhavit, I wanted to find knowledge and learn as much as I can while I am here, but...now that I've seen just a small amount of the city, I'm not sure I want to leave. Not permanently anyway."

"I'm going to the library when I get a chance. I hear there's so much information there."

Now she was rambling on, but she found it...comforting and relaxing to finally talk to another being after so long. There was something different about him. She couldn't quite figure out what it was, but she was sure she'd figure it out soon.

"What brings you here? To this hot springs and the city?"

Once her hair was done he started to focus on her face. Trying to match the soft features of her on paper. He made her eyes a bit more larger on paper to try to give a curiosity and wonder to the world for her as that was what she gave the feeling of when he looked at her. He would use his fingers at time to break up the dark parts to smudge the charcoal to smooth it out along her hair and face.

Slowly he was having the lines and smudges coming to life as he examined her in detail. He would not add the scars he saw on her arms as he would just focus on her face. Even the scar on her cheek he would not add on the paper as it did not need it since he could not think of a way for his mind and hands to create a way for it to enhance her features.

As he focused on the drawing he listened to her words. It seemed she was lonely on some level with how she spoke. It reminded him of himself when he was alone in Sahova and still so new to this city as well. Was it fate for him to meet people like this? He was not sure but he never gave much thought to that or even to the gods since he knew few would mark him with gifts due to him being a nuit.

“I left my home awhile ago. Seems I have been lost but some reason I just stayed here. Seems few cities have a library but I would not mind seeing what this hold ones even if it would be a fragment of what I am use to.”

He said softly to her as he rubbed his fingers on the drawing to add a eye shadow effect on her eyes to let them stand out a bit on the lighter page and moving the charcoal to form her lips giving them a fuller expression and darker.

“As for why here? I find myself just going to different places in the city at different times. This city never really sleeps it seems so you have things to do no matter what.”

He answered as he took a small break from the drawing. Trying to see if he wanted to add more to it or if he was done. He was getting better but he still felt like he was far away from what he wanted to do. He wanted to show life in his art yet this was still voided of life it felt like.

“Where did you come from? Any trades?”

A mouse comes out to play

Postby Alair Makeviht on May 29th, 2016, 1:43 pm

Alair had never been drawn before. Hadn't even really been looked at before. She resisted the urge to push her hair out of her face, just brushed her fingers through the grass under her over and over. Her mind was rather mellow at the moment. It might have been because she was tired. Sleeping in dark alleyways wasn't exactly her idea of a nice time. But it was all she could do at this point. She didn't really have a say on if she was sleeping in a bed or not. Not yet, anyway. Maybe once she was able to earn money, she'd be able to buy a place here in the city. Out of the few places she had seen, she really enjoyed the sights and sounds of Lhavit.

She looked at him, golden eyes shifting over to watch him as he spoke. She listened intently, nodding just slightly.

"...You're used to larger libraries than what they have here?"

She was a little jealous. She would love to see a library that rivaled others. She would have to see the Library in Lhavit before she could say much, though. She hoped one day, she could find a large library to hide away in. She wanted to learn whatever books and knowledge those places of knowledge could offer.

Alair nodded at what he said about being here, in this place, the fact that the city never slept, she smiled at that.

"I've noticed. But I like it. It reminds me of Alvadas. The noise and the people, anyway."

"Alvadas. I lived there for a while, but things happened, and I came here instead. I hoped it would be more friendly to someone like me here..."

She shook her head. "I'm not really skilled in any trades just yet. I want to be, but...it's hard when I have to scavenge just to find food for the night."

"I enjoy writing, and drawing. But I like a lot of different things. I want to learn more of whatever I can...the library's one of the places I'm going to go first. I'll be right back."

She stood up carefully, slightly limping over to her horse and fishing around in the saddlebags for her own sketchbook and a pencil before returning to her spot near Vick, still not invading his space.

With that, she began drawing as well. She was barely able to make stick figures. Landscapes made more sense to her in her head, so she always resorted to drawing those if at all possible. Even if it still looked far from being realistic or reflecting the beauty that she saw, she enjoyed putting pencil to paper and relaxing into the practice of it.

"What about you? Any...trades?"

It was a different way of hearing it. She knew what he was talking about, she thought, but it...was so different talking to another person after so long of being alone. She wasn't sure she understood how to talk to people still.
