8th Day of Summer

The morning hadn't yet come but the sky was beginning to lighten in the east hinting at the promise of a beautiful day. Riluc's green eyes took in the faint light as he stood outside his tent peace feeling his soul at the majesty of the world. The ugliness of Sunberth was hidden in the predawn light. The young man sighed, his expression soft as he shouldered his bag and quietly began to walk through the tent city. The true humor was that he felt a need to be quieter walking through the tent city in early morning then at any point in the forest out beyond the city.

Once Riluc was beyond the last of the tent he began a steady jog that carried him through the fields beyond the city limits. He breathed in deep enjoying the moist air. Riluc as a child had hated the morning dew as it could chill a sleeping body in the early morning's chill. He even know wasn't a fan but he had grown to love the smell of water in the air. Now the moisture seem to refresh him as he ran through the predawn.

He loved the feeling of his muscles stretching as he jogged, and watching the scenery flash by as he moved. The scenery was actually rather bland right around him as it was just young growing plants, but as a follower of Caiyha he loved to see the plants grow. He found the farms themselves a little pompous as they tried to control plant life, but in the same breath it was an effective use of Caiyha’s creatures. Farmers had to balance themselves with nature or everything would fall apart.

Riluc cleared his mind and focused on the day ahead. Today he would focus mostly on his traps and finding small game. He figured he would head towards one of his rope traps that he had set closer to the edge of the forest were smaller game would be found in its efforts to steal seeds and such from the farms. He had set it the morning before and had plans to see what it had captured.

He continued to run through the fields moving his thoughts beyond that trap to the others. While he enjoyed hunting in all its variation. He sadly did have to make some coin to buy those supplies he didn't have enough skills to make, or couldn't find in the wild. One day he would be completely self sufficent and be able to wander the wilds as a Witch of Caiyha for days on end. He would be able to handle the monstrous dangers of the wild with little problem. Riluc loved that thought and it brought a smile to his face.

Two Hunters Walked Into The Forest (Loshir)

Postby Loshir on July 15th, 2016, 9:29 pm

Loshir was up well before the dawn had shown his face. She couldn't sleep, it was a new city. A smelly one. The mostly unpleasant aromas overwhelmed her sensitive nose and the stench of illness hit the back of her throat, even in her human form. Loshir was very tired, but needed to be in a forest again. She had run out of hides to tan anyway, and coin was needed.

She had cautiously padded the streets in her bear form. It was fairly quite, a few screams here and there, a cry every now and again. Every noise made her stop suddenly and check behind her. Soon enough she was trotting, taking quick and nervous steps. It wasn't the time to investigate the streets. The town became sparser and the number of twisted wooden mine entrances increased. Hrif had almost fell into one on her way here, Loshir's eyes softened as she thought about her silly day dreamy horse.

The sandy bear strided with more confidence as she approached the first few trees of the woodland. The friendly moon was starting to fade into dark peachy sky and Loshir noticed the subtle haze of a new day. This felt comfortably familiar, her Father would always take her hunting at this early twilight, she remembered this one time... full moon... No. She pushed the thought from her head, she would never get anything done otherwise.

Snuffing the earth away from a few roots and pawing the ground, this wasn't a pesky sunberth rat, thank heavens, but she couldn't quite place it. The soil tickled her nostrils, causing her to sneeze. Crud. That would have done it, everything knows you are here now Losh. Sighing she dragged her paws elsewhere, clinking her claws on the little stones. Her vision was a little soft from the lack of sleep. Maybe it was a bit stupid to come out here. Loshir continued into the depths of the woodlands anyway, the great mass of bear bouncing along.

The forest loomed before Riluc as he slowed down from his jog, as he apptoached he became more cautious. Riluc loved the forest but wasn't stupid and knew that it had its own variety of dangers. He was breathing heavy but not so that it interfered with him walking. Nor did it distract his gaze from sweeping the ground before him. At this point Riluc didn't think he would really see anything outside of some small creatures. So he stoped in surprise when he noticed a large print in the track before him. It was far larger then what he had seen recently.

Riluc bent down and examined the track. It wasn't all that clear, but Riluc suspected that he was looking at a bear. Riluc slowlly began to follow the path of the bear. His first question was why was the bear walking into the forest. As Riluc looked back he could see the trail of steps stretching back the way he had come. He looked forward and saw another step farther ahead. Riluc contiuned following the steps deeper and deeper into the forest. He was fairly sure that the tracks were really recent.

Riluc wasn't intrested in hunting the bear, but a bear would interfer with his hunting and so Riluc wanted to learn what he could about the creature, and see if ut was staying. Riluc did notice as he followed the trail that the bear seemed to be heading towards his rope trap. Riluc decided he needed to check on the trap. So he began to move towards it noticing that the track was staying with his path.

Two Hunters Walked Into The Forest (Loshir)

Loshir continued to follow the sweet scent of a prey animal, intrigued to its identity. Around this tree and past that tree. She was on the right track. Few of last autumn's leaves remained, soft with dew, little critters seemed to dance beneath them. A soft crunch of twigs somewhere behind her snagged on her ears. What was that?! She stopped and listened further, couldn't see the cause of her alert. Hmpf.

She reached the end of her scent trail, hardy anything exciting. Some person had left a trap of some sort and a small rabbit had been unlucky enough to be caught by it. Idiot, of course it was a rabbit. Rabbits had limited use for Loshir in terms of leather; they were so small. But she had felt the twang, might as well eat it. She looked around, eyes darting between the trees. The trap setter most probably wouldn't have come at this time of day.

The rabbit stared at her with its wide and beady eyes, tracking the bear's every move. Wrong place at the wrong time. Loshir had no idea how traps worked, it was just some rope and sticks. She swiped the rabbit out of the trap, letting it's back leg out of constraint of the rope. It tried to bolt away into the undergrowth. The corners of Loshir's mouth turned upwards, her eyes squinted and her eyebrows lifted in delight. Automatically she prepared her body to lunge. Now to chase.

Riluc was approaching the spot were his first trap was set up. He was quietly cursing as he could still clearly see the bear's trail was leading directly towards the spot were Riluc had set his trap. The trap had been set near a denof rabbits who had had no competition for resources. So Riluc had worked on restoring their population to a balance state. The rabbit furs were also nice and the rabbits were fat enough to make them extra tasty.

Riluc slowed down as he came closer to avoid giving himself away. Bears did eat some meet they mostly stuck to fish. An easy rabbit could easily call its attention though. Riluc also didn't want to upset the bear as he really didn't want to fight it and a bear in the area would be good for balance even if they would become competition on Riluc's hunts, as Riluc was a follower of Caiyha and believed in balance.

The young wilder stopped at the edge of the small clearing making sure he approached on the down wind side of the clearing. His green eyes took in the scene before him. There was a bear stair ing at the rabbit it had just liberated from Riluc's trap. The rabbit stared at the large bear completely scared. Riluc watched interested at the scene. He wasn't going to get this Rabbit, luckily he had other traps to bring in for his job. There was a stand off in the clearing. The bear clearly wanted a chase, Riluc could see the tense muscles in the Bears back. The rabbit though was just trapped by the bear's gaze. Riluc leaned back against the tree to watch and see what would happen.

Two Hunters Walked Into The Forest (Loshir)

Her ears flicked and twisted. Loshir sensed the presence of a human behind her, not threatening and relaxed against a tree. He seemed muscular and heavily built, That was probably his trap, oops. Loshir just hoped he wouldn't be angry, she was too hungry and tired for much of a fight. The rabbit saw this moment of distraction and contracted its hind legs, springing up and away.

Loshir jumped and swiped out with her forelimb snagging the rabbit. A tuft of its grey pelt lodged itself in between Loshir's claws. Dammit, not quite. She bounded after the stupid rabbit into the undergrowth, away from the clearing. It felt good to feel the breeze slice through her thick coat and ripple through clearing the fur away from her eyes. The brambles and bushes tapped her as she rushed through them. Her mind cleared as she focused on into the rabbit, nothing else concerned her right now.

This rabbit was fast, but she had her momentum going. Just as the little darting mammal attempted to scamper under some rocks, she lurched forward and scooped it up. Digging her canine teeth right into it's neck. It had a little squeak, followed by the popping sound of vertebrae breaking. Loshir sighed in satisfaction.

Riluc stood leaning against the tree all throught the staring match. Riluc narrowed his eyes looking at the bear, he wasn't sure but he would have guessed that the bear he was looking at was young. There were a number of clues that lead him to that conclusion, one being the bear's hesitation as it wanted to play. The second clue was the lack of any marks on the creature.

His gaze soften then as he continued to watch and eventually his presences was detected by the bear. Riluc watched wariely as the bear looked in his direction. Human was really on a bears diet, but as fellow predators they had been known try and remove competition. The bear only looked though before turning its attentiin back to the liberated rabbit. Said rabbit actually took that moment to try and make its escape. Riluc's green eyes watched as the bear took off after the rabbit. The bear took off after the rabbit leqving Riluc alone with his trap. He walked over to the trap and looked it over. Luckly it had been a simple one. The young wilder set about fixing his trap. He desided to reset it in the area it had been set. He like to move the around but this was the rabbits territory and one rabbit hardly counted.

Riluc finished stacking down the trap and stopped and looked in the direction that the bear had gone. Riluc had heard the bear crashing through the forest. It was quiet now, and had been for a few minutes. Clearly the bear had won the chase. Riluc reflected on the interaction with the bear. Something did seem off. Animals had a certian amount of intelligence but this one seemed to have more, and its total lack of concern about his presences was a little odd. Riluc wondered if maybe the bear might be a kelvic. That or else a bear that was way to use to humans.

Excepting that he was bring any product in from this specific trap, but he did have a few other traps to check, and he would always go looking for some other animals. Riluc was surprised to find himself carefully taking the path the bear had taken. The large creature had left a clear trail in its rush. Riluc moved carefully in his leather boots. The leaves brushing against his skin as he passed broken branches. He did want to startle the bear just try and learn more of this fellow hunter.
