“Oh okay, That makes sense” Nivel responded with a smile.

Nivel felt a little bad for forcing Alex to explain himself to her when she knew he shouldn’t have had to. If it weren’t for her overbearing pycon curiosity she would have just let it lie and not brought his uncomfortable memories to the surface.
“The past is the past, I seriously doubt your Aura is corrupted.” The pycon reassured the squire. “I probably wouldn’t notice those subtleties anyway, the mind is very hard to read. It’s mostly the physical and Magical properties that I can sense in people. Though if you really want to know what I can see I’ll gladly take a gander and tell you what I can learn.”

Nivel began the process of meditation with her usual breathing exercises. She would slowly fill herself up with hair like a ballon and then inflate herself until she had reached the desired level of calm.
As if she had opened up another set of eyelids her vision drastically changed in an instant. The dull neutral coloured archives became full of life, movement and vivid colour as she saw how things truly were.
The brightest aura was of course Alex, it carried a softness and realized nature to it but with quivering strands that might elude to a touch of inner turmoil. The light was a mild pink that faded to a brighter turquoise near the fringes, it was quite beautiful to behold.
After taking a brief moment to admire it, Nivel focused on the aura and let it’s presence into her nexus. A flood of information and imagery overwhelmed her and she concentrated on what she wished to learn. She started out simple by thinking about his age and what he eats. Nivel could see lines appear with in Alex’s aura and in an instant she could feel that he was around 20 or so years, maybe less. Not to long after she could taste a sweet fluid in her mouth and while the sensation was foreign to her she knew it was orange right away. Alex also had some crispy bread full of grains and eggs witch Nivel didn’t enjoy as much.

The next thing Nivel looked into was injuries of abnormalities that Alex may have have suffered recently. The damaged areas began to glow on his body and Nivel could feel sense ever ruptured blood vessel and every freckle or mole. Alex mostly had mostly healed bruises on his arms and torso and a few tiny cuts on his shins. His intestines were running smoothly but she could tell he would be getting hungry any time now. He had a small patch of frost bite on his cheek and a tiny bean shaped birthmark on his outer thigh. She felt she had learned enough and severed the connection and reverted her vision to usual.

“Well, you’re just under 20 years old with a touch of frost bite on your cheek, a brown spot just bellow your waist and you have a few mostly healed injuries on your arms and legs. You ate an orange, a cooked egg and some bread with lots of grain in it and while you aren’t hungry now but you will be soon. That was some of the information I could gather but it’s all mostly physical, I couldn’t get much of your feelings or your past from this reading.” The tiny mage recited “I will say though that your Aura is very beautiful and calming. very colourful too.” her ears fluttered as she put the squires fear to rest.

“Auristics and shielding are pretty safe, I find the magic that is typically used to harm others are the ones that are likely to hurt the user back. Auristics is mostly used to gain knowledge and Shielding is for protection its nearly impossible to hurt people with them. Though I have been confined in a cage that was covered in shield magic so it can’t always be used with good intentions.” The time she was held captive ran through her nexus and she wondered if she would ever find the ones that imprisoned her. She hoped they were brought to justice soon.

“I agree with you there, It sounds like it would be easy enough but some people are set in their ways as you said before.” The pycon could now see what Alex was getting to with their earlier conversation. Some people were like rocks when they should be more fluid like clay.

“I wonder what else this tower needs?” Nivel said as she notice Alex surveying the tower. “A roof perhaps?” She walked backwards a bit to get a better view of their work.

He got the sense from her that she almost seemed satiated with hearing him give an explanation. Like it set her mind at ease, then again she was difficult to read. The quirks of her mannerisms seemed to show that bluntly and very openly. Though the words she spoke seemed comforting but he couldn’t tell if they were fully true or not. Though she was wanting to take a look and he’d given his permission so he wasn’t expressly able to stop her. He couldn’t rescind what he’d only just given. He saw her seemingly swell and then a flash of light to her eyes. Strange but not disquieting. It felt odd being read like a book. But what was odder still was the revelation of the information around him.

His age, his recent injuries, even the food he’d eaten and the fact he was starting to feel the first waning pangs of hunger. Though thankfully her last words were that she couldn’t read his past. His feelings, what was going on with him at any given moment. However what made him a little withdrawn was the comment of having a “beautiful and calming” Aura. He retreated into himself a little not out of disbelief though having seen what she’d read about him he knew fully well he couldn’t however hearing that about himself made him instantly embarrassed.

Quite possibly sensing the discomfort in him as she’d literally just read him she promptly changed the subject. Making a point of confirming to him that Auristics and Shielding appeared to be the safer of the disciplines she knew. The ones that were liable to bit the user were the ones designed to bite another. Much like a poorly trained attack dog. Her words carried on though stating that at one point she’d been captured within a cage that was enhanced with shielding. Perhaps even the most benign of skills could be put to the most nefarious of uses. At least with the world they lived in and the world he’d been exposed to it made sense.

Though it now appeared that Nivel could see what he meant with his words earlier that some people just wouldn’t change without literally being beaten over the head with a need to change. Though her question about what the tower needed was met with a clean and precise answer.
“It needs stairs…Stairs and a defined roof.” He paused before looking about the books. “There isn’t much we could use here for stairs however two small books balanced well could serve as a roof point?” He paused a moment letting her make the final decision there btu he spoke about her words with the auristics and the shielding now.

“With regards to Shielding it seems like a skill that can be used for great good and great evil. And from your experience it sounds like you’ve seen both sides of that coin. As for the Auristics…” he paused a moment before continuing. “You didn’t see anything of the past…Honestly and truthfully?” He held a look of hope in his eyes that she didn’t peer that far. He had a lot to hide not small deeds of stealing a loaf of bread or this that and the other but from assisting in a sever conflict and possibly even more disastrous to his life in Syliras his origins. His home town of Ravok. “Though I thank you for the kind words, I doubt my aura is “pleasant”.” He spoke his final words with an air of remorse and regret but a sincerity in thanks for her words and thoughtfulness in her speech.

“Oh that will be tough.” The pycons ears fell limp as she pondered this challenge. “I think we’ll need a support pillar for the roof, Roofs needs support pillars…Well in this case they do. But what to use for a pillar?” Nivel paced back and forth on the counter as she tired to think of what in the area could possibly be of use to them.
“Oh I know!” Nivel jumped up and down in excitement at her idea before reaching down to the lower part of her left leg. She reached her hand into her own flesh and pulled out a short strand of thread.
“I always keep some thread in my leg incase of an emergency such as this. We can use it to tie some quills together into a support beam. We just need to ask one of the scribes for some.” The pycon paused for a moment and looked down towards the table. “would you mind doing it…The scribes don’t give me things anymore.” The pycon kept her answer vague so she wouldn’t have to explain all of the mischief she’d gotten into while in the Archives. Though it wouldn’t really be hard for Alex to figure out some of the scenarios if he took the time.

“hrm now for stairs…” Her braided clay hair swayed about frantically as she thought even harder about this dilemma. It was certainly harder than making a roof since the supplies in the archives were limited and there was only so much she could take with her at a time.
“I wish books came in more variety, then this would be simple.” She grumbled as she crossed her arms and scrunched up her tiny face.
“Maybe I can weave some old unused scrolls into a some stares..but that might take some time..and make the scribes angry again…Any ideas?” She looked up at alex in hopes that he would have better ideas.

“Well it’s definitely harder to use it for evil, that person was just creative. The only negative use I can think of for shielding is to trap people and thats an advanced technique. There are far more beneficial uses, I personally want to use it to make invisible bridges for the fort I made in the bronze woods.” She let out a sigh and in the most reassuring voice she could muster she explained again that his past was his secret to keep.

“I wish you could see your own aura, it really is quite nice. Much nicer than mine.” Nivel wasn’t sure if her aura looked differently to others but what little she saw just a glimmer of Emerald colours with tiny flecks of purple and turquoise. It was pretty but seemed a bit intense for Nivel and didn’t have that same character that Alex’s possessed.

A support pillar for the roof? Alex paused a moment looking over the musty collection of tomes around him. Quills? He waved that possibility off they were too flimsy in his experience with them. “I don’t think we need quills, they’re pretty flimsy all things considered. How about a slightly shorter yet still pretty stout book? It could work for a support pillar. Not to mention this would keep us both in good standing with the scribes. I’m not on the best terms with them at the moment either…That and the Quill points could damage the books covers. Meaning we’d get pretty chewed out for that.” He gave her a look of “neither of us want that”. Still he’d managed to balance the support pillar and then line the two roofing books up and the tower peak was finished.

As soon as he looked back from placing the books at the peak he saw her quite literally pull something out of her body. A length of string. Stopping the now slowly shifting churn of his stomach he looked at her and spoke quietly. “I’ll bear in mind that pycons store stuff within them, however…That was a little unsettling, perhaps you could warn me next time?” Hearing the fact that Nivel was already in a bit of an odd standing with the scribes kind of hinted to the fact that he was in the same boat and probably shouldn’t have been helping her with the tower.

However it was too late now and the problem of how to make a staircase still lingered. She was right though they could use the scrolls but that would be a very…Less than sensible option given the scribes predisposition to both himself and Nivel apparently. “I’m not really sure what we can do there but it doesn’t look too bad as it stands. Perhaps it shouldn’t be that much of a necessity?” He offered with a small hand gesture towards her hoping to hear her agree though given how things had been going he wondered if she would.

Hearing her recount on the usage of the magic for evil intent though was something that made him question things. But her mention of a fort in the bronze woods with an invisible bridge had him curious but he’d keep it a secret as best he could. Still though he spoke. “Sometimes though Nivel, creativity is the only thing that holds back the progress of things. How creative someone is with something. And you seem like a very…Inspired person to me. Perhaps that creativity might lead to a few new discoveries?” He finished with a smile soft, light but less of trying to convince more one of having a sense of faith and confidence on her.

Though her comment on seeing his own aura was something he’d wondered about since she’d brought it up. “If I ever feel the need to see my own aura I’ll seek you out Nivel. I just have one more question about the Auras. Do they appear differently to different people?” After Asking Alex would take a step back to examine his and Nivel’s work. Hopefully it could stand long enough before the scribes would come over and force them to take it down. And possibly ban him from the archives for another three days.

“oh yah you’re right. I forgot how flimsy feathers can be. I’m sure there’s a scroll we can use, just a second I think I saw one earlier.” Nivel ran towards the end of the table and leapt off the end. She landed with a nimble tumble that took the blunt of the impact and continued on her way toward the lower shelves of the herbalism section. It didn’t take her long to find the spare pieces of parchment that she sought after. It was made of fairly thick pulp and as such would be great for a support beam if tied tight enough. She quickly rolled it up and held it under her arm. As she ran back to Alex it looked like she was carrying a battle ram based on its size in relation to her body.
“Will this work?” She hesitantly asked.
She out stretched her arm quickly like a grappling hook and retracted it until she was on the ledge. She pulled herself and the parchment up and began tying it with her string.

“Sorry it’s hard to know what is considered alarming to you Tall Folk, To me pulling something from your leg is no different than you pulling something from your pocket.” It seemed Nivel was never going to completely understand the other races and what they considered odd or unconventional. She still didn’t want to make someone uncomfortable so these silly rules would have to be followed ether way.
“I also have a sewing needle in my other leg but if I pull it out I’ll warn you first.”

“You’re probably right, we don’t really need stairs. I can climb that hight pretty easily.” Nivel didn’t really enjoy stairs since she had to pull herself up each individual step. It was always a pain to head up any of the towers in Storm hold, going down was rather fun though.

“Am I really that creative?” Nivel said a bit in disbelief. She had always thought of herself as quite bland in comparison to the pycon’s she’d grown up with. They were always building bizarre structures out of the most unremarkable of objects while she could barely construct a castle out of books.
“I’ll try but I haven’t done anything too noteworthy with magic just yet.” The pycon was only know for her magic because of how little mages there were in the order and not because of her skill. Though some of her encounters with dangerous locations and monsters may have helped her gain some more substantial notoriety all her own.

“That’s a good question, I can’t say I’m really sure about that. Though I have heard of people that can hear or smell auras rather than see them like I do. I imagine their are some slight differences from people since Autistics is based on personal perception and interpretation.” Nivel pondered Alex’s question while her hair swayed about her.

“Thank you for helping me build my castle, I really appreciate the help” Nivel said after she looked over their work. “Now lets get out of here before the scribes notice.” She chuckled.
