The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

Heart of the Storm

Springwater Square

It began after sunset.

The wind howled between the mountains. Rain came down in irregular sheets, sometimes stopping altogether, sometimes pouring cats and dogs. The weather had been the same all day, so Estrellir had holed up inside her apartment. Playing with Sir Alwin and sleeping could only occupy her so long though, so on a tentative trip outside she’d gathered some rumors. A party was to be hosted by Zintila Herself, that night, when the storm was supposed to be at its worst. During that party, something extraordinary would happen.

And people did come out after sunset.

Not many, but enough to spark the Konti’s interest. She would’ve liked to prepare herself more conventionally for bracing a storm on the mountaintop (meaning, for her, to consult books and possibly weather experts), but as her decision was last moment, she merely took care to dress warmly: two layers of tunics, cloak, wool scarf and gloves. Leather boots, as waterproof as they came. Checking her myriad pockets one last time, Estrellir tucked the hood over her ivory locks and ventured out into wet chaos.

Never had she experienced storms like that in Kenash, perhaps the plains didn’t lend themselves to such extreme conditions. Torrential rain, yes, but water and wind and biting cold combined were something else entirely. Still, she managed to find Springwater Square, the beating heart of the party.

For it was already in full swing, only a bell or two after sunset. Music was provided by the frantic white noise of rain on stone and the wind howling between the peaks. Just as Estrellir stepped on the cobbled square, distant thunder reached her ears. Yet she was too entranced by the sight before her violet eyes to worry about the dangers of lightning. Dancers were moving near the fountain: Most were huddled directly in front, some in small groups all around, some even in the fountain itself. Still more were arriving, joining the others, swaying, twirling and shaking limbs in tune with their neighbors. Strangely hypnotizing, the Konti thought, trying to hear music that wasn’t there.

She’d planned to merely watch and observe, like the solitary figures lining the square. With robes whipping about in the wind, they seemed to be mages on duty. Keeping out of the storm, preserving precious head and energy. It would’ve been the rational thing to do. And yet, before she knew it, Estrellir found herself dancing with a tall dark-skinned man and a girl with huge black almond eyes and braids. It was easier than expected, soon she lost herself in the movement, following the wind wherever it nudged her, relishing the rain on her face, not even caring whose hair clung to her brow or slapped her cheeks. It was hypnotic and she’d been caught.

As she was shorter than (pretty much) everyone else, however, she got pushed and shoved (possibly) more than anyone else. One time an elbow hit her in the temple and suddenly the sparkling diamonds of Zintila’s dress multiplied. Soon after, there was an apologetic pat on the head, but Estrellir almost didn’t notice. Zintila’s dress… the sight rang a bell, distant…

Heart of the Storm

Deliath sat on bed, having only just left the Catholicon, finishing her shift until the next day, and she was exhausted, but she had heard rumours of something happening at Springwater Square on Shinyama peak and she was interested! Especially with the storm being at its peak!
Storms didn't scare her like they would have her guardians. She found them beautiful and mysterious. Powerful and full of life and energy, and she couldn't help but admire them.

Smiling, she stood up again and checked her clothes. They were old and worn, not suitable for anything as exciting as the rumours she had heard.
'Guess I'd better change...' she thought to herself, walking to the soft chair on the other side of the room and grabbing a piece of clothing that hung over the back of it. It was the blue silk dress her mother had given her on their last meeting.

Grinning, she changed into the dress and glanced down at herself. In the storm it would likely offer no protection and leave her uncomfortable, but that wasn't something she cared about.
There was something mysterious happening, and a storm was happening as well. She was too curious and excited to care about anything.

Then as the sun set she made her way from her home to Shinyama peak, and then to Springwater square.

By the time she got there, her hair was dripping with water and her legs were cold and shaking, going numb and then regaining feeling repeatedly. Her dress was stuck to her, occasionally breaking free to then whip her numb legs, letting a surging hot feeling wash over her legs briefly before they returned to the cold numbness.

Despite this, she grinned at the rain falling, and the flashes of lightning that were than followed by a roll of thunder, and she whispered a quiet prayer to Zulrav, thanking him for the magnifence of the storm.
Soon she found herself slipping into the crowd of people and beginning to dance with them, whilst keeping her eyes darting around the crowds to see who was there.

It wasn't long before her eyes landed on a beautiful woman with a dress that was so finely made that it resembled the stars in the night sky, and she realised that that must be Zintila!
She was beautiful, more beautiful than Deliath could have imagined, and she found herself fixated on the woman for a few moments, before she noticed a smaller, white haired girl suffer an elbow to the temple, before also staring at Zintila, and Deliath decided to keep an eye on the girl, at least until she was sure that the hit hadn't been too severe.

Making her way over to the girl, Deliath continued to smile, before placing a hand on the girls shoulder.
"Dance with us?" she asked the girl, wanting to watch out for her. She was smaller than most there and the floor was slippy, if she slipped and fell she was likely to end up injured under the feet of the revellers who hadn't noticed the young woman.

Heart of the Storm

Estrellir had heard Zintila would be hosting the party in the storm, not only that, but actually attending like everyone else. And there she was, dancing only a few steps and people away. That magnificent dress of starlight flashed between bodies every now and then as the Konti watched. She’d almost forgotten… if the Goddess of Stars was close, she’d wanted to ask a question, but… it was already gone, lost to the storm.

A touch on her shoulder sent Estrellir whirling around, nearly bumping into the taller girl smiling down at her. The words on her lips were carried away by wind and rain, but the Konti could guess their meaning easily. The girl seemed harmless enough, utterly human with her dark locks and open smile, although her dress, already soaked, seemed more than a little cold for the season. One look at her sent shivers down Estrellir’s own spine and drove her to adjust her scarf, soaked as well. Then she nodded, carefully massaging her temple (everything seemed to be in order up there, her thoughts a little muddled, but still flowing). Perhaps the girl had found a safe spot for dancing, surrounded by friends or colleagues, people watching out for her. If so, Estrellir would be a fool not to accept her offer.

If the girl led her way, she’d follow across the wet cobblestone. With fabric whipped about and hair ruffled by strong wind, everyone was the same: wet, cold, moving. They didn’t seem to care. Squinting, Estrellir tried not to lose sight of the taller girl as she trailed her through the throng. Her dress shone a little in the darkness, so the Konti kept her gaze on that.

Still, she was shoved and elbowed in the ribs, all by accident of course. Long legs blocked her path and before she knew what was happening, something kicked at her ankles. Not again, was all she could think, before she went down. Still falling, she grabbed blindly at anything within reach, tugging briefly at the hem of the girl’s vibrant skirt before it slipped through her fingers.

Then, the bite of stone and grating mud. Shaking water and damp hair out of her eyes, Estrellir tried to push through the stinging pain in her knees and get up. With bodies moving all around and above her, however, it felt like she was only pushed deeper into the ground. Right then and there, she wanted nothing more than to leave the damn party and go somewhere with a fire and drinks. To fall and not even get up again! That was something she expected from Kenash, not Lhavit – yet the two cities seemed to be one and the same when it came to partying.
