Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Earlier that day...

A week had yet to pass since his arrival and Makah'a was already entranced by the beauty of Riverfall. Though he intended to stay long enough to replenish supplies and venture south, he could not pass the opportunity to understand more of the city. For the past couple of days he walked, observing quietly as to not interrupt the bustling of its residents. Initially it did not catch his attention, but as the time passed and Makah'a continued to wander its streets, he was amazed to see nothing but wealth and pleasant living. No sign of suffering, and no sign of crime. How could a city, so huge that he could not even circumvent its paths in the three days he'd been here; did not have the slightest bit of unruliness or signs of suffering? In all the cities he visited, he yet to find one that did not oppress, exploit, or felt indifferent towards another people. It was remarkable to say the least, and something he believed other cities should take as an example of how a society should be.

Dressed in a simple white linen shirt, brown leather trousers and leather boots that he fashioned back at the inn before he stepped out into the city, Makah'a made a note to leave any weapons behind. The only thing he carried on his person were his coins and his mother's scarf that wrapped loosely around his neck, a sentiment he always likened to keep around. Part of him felt that maybe one day when he returns to her, she could feel the strands of the cloth and know exactly what he saw, as if by some miraculous skill. If that were the case, he would want to make sure she would see the beauty of Riverfrall and make every note of its wonders.
Makah'a wandered his way south from the inn, passing by areas of training and smaller shops all the way down to Semele Park. He strolled, seeing the vegetation and how it was arranged, but it wasn't something that interested him much. Further down, however there was a lake, its blueness catching his attention. A few benches were methodically placed around it to allow for some rest and pondering. There, he sat by an Akalak who seemed to beckon him to join. Makah'a, did so indifferently with no real intention to avoid a stranger on such a peaceful day. As he gazed upon the still lake and its flowers that surrounded it, the Akalak, by the silver of his hair looked many years his senior, stroke a conversation. Though Makah'a was not one to talk much, he appreciated the man's friendliness, and went on to listen on his thoughts.
"You seem like a curious young man. Someone willing to learn." Makah'a did not seem phased, but clearly interested.
"Yes I am." his voice a mellow, smooth yet husky sound with a hint of Tawna in his accent.
"Well, you seem to know enough about fighting" the old Akalak chuckled. "But if it helps, there is a training ground not to far from here in that direction." he turned to point in the direction of the combat training area that Makah'a recognized in his passings.
"But if there is more you desire, I suggest you speak to Crescenta."
At the mention of a stranger's name Makah'a raised a brow.
"And who is Crescenta?" he asked.
The Akalak nodded slowly. "She is a magician if you could say that, but that is putting it too lightly, since magic is no game. I'm sure you know. She knows Auristics, and she is allowing lessons to take place in her residence. I believe she lives within the Kuahala estates if I'm not mistaken. She typically teaches in the evenings, so it is best to make your way there once the sun sets." The Akalak chimed.
Though Makah'a's Common was not the best, he understood mostly of what the old Akalak said, and made note of where to search for this teacher.
"Thank you." Makah'a nodded appreciatively. Luckily for him it was not long until the sun would slowly begin its descent. Makah'a stood from the bench and again nodded his head in the direction of the old Akalak and politely excused himself to continue his stroll through Semele Park.

Eventually he weaved out of the park's grounds and looped around to the Kuahala estates, just as the sun was setting. Of course, the one thing he forgot to ask as was which apartment this teacher resided, but with a few Akalaks' help for directions, Makah'a found his way to Crescenta's door. He knocked, hoping he caught her at the right time and while she was still offering lessons.

Lesson One in Auristics

The woman jolted up from where she had previously been day-dreaming and considering going out somewhere, she had been considering going to the Sapphire star, mainly because there weren't any men, or more specifically Akalaks there. They often came across as, nicely put, desperate for someone to carry their child. It seemed leaving was out of the question now though, as someone was at her door.

Luckily the sun had set by this time, so Crescenta was in her Ethaefal form, something that she was extremely pleased about. Her human body was vulnerable and scarred, something that she was not happy about at all. She didn't know exactly what she had done in a past life, but from the memories she had of it, none of it was good. Most of the memories were of her causing pain. However, she had decided that this new life she had with those memories was a second chance to make up for what she had done, and make things right.

The woman opened the door with a smile at whoever was behind it, looking at them with her violet eyes. She hoped the person had seen an Ethaefal before, as some reactions to her appearance were odd. She knew that her race was considered beautiful, with their changing hair and horns. At the moment her hair was a silvery-blue colour, and her horns were white in the spring.

"Hello, how can I help you?"

A man wearing a white shirt and a scarf wrapped around his neck was at her door, and she briefly wondered why someone would be here. When he told her that he was here for a lesson in Auristics, she ushered him in with a smile for the lesson, as she was happy to share the knowledge that she had with someone. It was exciting, and she certainly liked Auristics, as well as helping others.

"Have you ever done anything with Djed before?" She asked when he entered, It seemed like a good place to start, since if he hadn't she would have to go over the basics with him.

Lesson One in Auristics

Makah'a nodded and did not smile. He entered slowly and glanced around the room before his gaze fell upon the younger woman who equaled his height. Normally he would look down upon people because he was too tall, but it was a pleasant surprise. However, he had never seen a person quite like her, with tall white horns that curled and short silvery blue hair. Her skin too was prismatic, much like an opal. It was foreign to him to say the least, but not unpleasant. The question as to what race she was burned in his mind, but he refrained from saying anything or staring too long to make her uncomfortable. In the short time that he took to get a good look at her, he remained relatively stern with little expression except for the curiosity in his blue eyes.
"I do not. What is Djed?" he spoke softly, but paused at the end of his question as a thought came to mind.
"Before we start, my name is Makah'a. You are Crescenta, yes?" he asked, his hand extended to shake hers."An old Akalak told me you would be teaching around this time, here in your home. I hope this is right, I do not want to intrude." It became clearer the more he spoke that he was a foreigner and not fluent in the Common language, but rather had a basic command of the language, enough to be familiar with some complex words and concepts, but not enough for elaborate conversations. Still, he made every effort to learn the language as it was clear in the smooth flow of his words. Hopefully this would not deter her from teaching him, he rather liked the challenge of both learning a language and a skill at the same time. It would prove to be interesting to say the least.

Lesson One in Auristics

Postby Crescenta on May 6th, 2017, 8:11 pm

"Yes, yes it's fine, it's nice to meet you Makah'ah." She smiled, her speech possibly seeming a little rushed as she was excited about teaching. She shook his hand and closed the door, welcoming him in.

"Djed is..." The woman paused in an attempt to figure out how to phrase it, and she walked across the room in thought for a moment, before stopping and picking up her blue scarf with a smile. "This will do." She muttered under her breath with a smile, trying to recall her first lesson.

"Djed is everything, it makes everything. For example, this scarf is made of Djed, even if it looks like silk. The silk itself is made of Died even. Even you are djed." The Ethaefal paused again, her teacher had then told her about how the djed couldn't be destroyed, only transformed.

"Now, imagine that the silk represents the Djed. It was originally just silk, and it was turned into a scarf. Now let's say that this scarf cannot be destroyed. Djed is the scarf, it cannot be destroyed, only turned into something else. Yet, sometimes once you turn it into something, you cannot change it back. For example, if I destroyed the scarf, which I won't."

"Then, a person's Djed, is stronger than the scarf's, due to the fact that a person has free will. Any questions?" She paused for a moment before smiling. "If you understand all that we will continue onto the actual Auristic teaching."

Djed is everything

Makah'a briefly looked to his hands and then gazed around the room in an attempt to connect the two things together. His skin, the furniture, her clothes and his clothes, they were all Djed under that rule. It did not matter if it is an object or a living being, it is all Djed. "So...anything can be Djed." He stated, more to allow himself think aloud than to ask a question. It was fairly simple to understand.

Djed is the scarf, it cannot be destroyed, only turned into something.

The latter concept was surprisingly much more confusing than he expected. It was uncelar whether she meant the scarf as the entirety of the universe, or just the scarf itself. Was it an anology And if it was, how can anything not be destroyed? He could easily snatch the scarf out of her hand and rip it apart or burn it into ash, and it would be destroyed, how is it possible to transform something that is in ashes? And what of all the blood that has spilled? How can one reform the blood of a dead being and transform it into something else? He could understand how the carcass could potentially be transformed, but even then, a dead body is no use to anything except the ground its on, and that's only if it was not killed in a city where it could not let other animals eat it or the soil consume it. Still, he could understand how it could transform in some instances like death, but not for a simple scarf made of silk.
"I don't understand. You said the scarf cannot be destroyed because of Djed, but then you said you can? Do you mean Djed is everything, and nothing can be destroyed, just transformed into something else? How is that possible?"
