Child's Play (Garland)

Elin couldn't help but chuckle slightly at the children splashing in the water, before she herself stepped in, making sure Rion was somewhere he could sit without being completely submerged by the water.

Then she heard Garland ask her how long she'd been in Syliras and she took a little bit of time remembering when she had arrived and stayed.
"Well I got here last summer, so that'll be three seasons so far. Although I'm not sure how long I'll be here for. I know I want to show Rion and Ilia where I grew up." she explained, turning to look at Garland just in time to be splashed in the face as Rion hit the water as hard as his little hand could manage.
Wiping the water from her eyes she laughed slightly, before looking at Garland again and stroking the back of Rion's hand.
"How about you? How long have you been here?" she asked curiously. "And did you always want to be a knight?" she asked again with a smile, hearing Phobos trying to say Ilia's name, and turning her head to look at Ilia to make sure that the little girl was okay.

"Phobos!" Ilia exclaimed, moving closer to the little boy and gently splashing the water, giggling as she did so.
Elin was glad to see that Ilia was getting along with Rion, and that Ilia was playing gently rather than being far too rough with the infant.
She'd originally been worried that Ilia would be bored being around the two much younger children, but she was happy.

Turning back to Garland again she opened her mouth to ask another question.
"So what's it like? Being a squire?" she smiled as she spoke. "Is it what you expected, or is it completely different to what you'd imagined?"

Garland nodded when she said she had been here for three seasons now. He would have liked to travel one of these days, maybe when he's a knight he can take a season or two off or do something else somewhere for the knights.

"Me? I've been here all my life, well maybe not all my life, they found me in cave a little ways off the road to Zeltiva but from what I know I don't have that Zeltivan accent. So I don't think I'm from there. Maybe Sunberth but from what the knights tell me, that place is crumbling."

Garland hadn't thought his family in a long time, in fact he had never met them, he had always imagined them; kind, caring mother, and strong, stoic father, but now that he had children of his own, he couldn't humor his idle fantasies.

Though, finding out he had a sister was still intriguing to him. "I was on the fence about becoming a squire or becoming a mercenary and wandering the world. Luckily I was smart enough to know that a hundred gold wouldn't get me far and it would be better for me to stay here until I get up on my feet. There was also another squire that convinced me to join, that man can punch through plate armor like it was wet paper."

Phobos giggled as the water splashed on his face, he looked like he was having fun with Ilia, he tried splashing back but his tiny hands couldn't quite make a big enough splash to reach Ilia.

Aneeka was blowing bubbles on the water with her mouth and making sure Rion had a good time, the two of them seem to be enjoying themselves and so far, everything was calm and relaxing. Still, he was one of the adults here, so he had to keep his eyes sharp in case the twins hurt themselves.

Then Elin asked a question Garland wasn't quite sure how to answer. "Well... Plenty of adventure, too much adventure maybe, but you could hear the other squires complain that all they do is train, but if they'd been through what I'd been through, they'd probably leave the order all together. Lots of work too, the knights have high standards for their recruits I think, I've seen squires that would take down entire camps of bandits and hordes of Yukmen when needed."

"What's your job by the way? Must be hard supporting the kids." Garland asked and looked over to Ilia and Rion, they seemed healthy, that's good.

Child's Play (Garland)

Postby Elin on April 30th, 2017, 8:36 pm

Elin hadn't heard much of Zeltiva and Sunberth. All she knew of them was that they were towards the south of the region, just on the coast. She'd heard that Zeltiva had a lot of ships, while Sunberth wasn't somewhere that sounded safe. Sunberth wasn't one of the places she was too fond of the idea of visiting, and Zeltiva seemed to be fairly out of the way from the rest of the place.

"I've never been to Zeltiva or Sunberth. Zeltiva is the one with the navy? Isn't it?" she asked trying to make sure that she wasn't mistaking it for elsewhere. She didn't want to spend too long thinking of the wrong place.

Then it clicked in her mind that he'd said he'd been found in a cave and she wondered how life could be without parents. She couldn't imagine her life without parents, but from what she'd gathered it wasn't too uncommon to have grown up without parents.
Rion and Ilia were halfway to that point, never having met their fathers before.

Then she heard him speaking about how he'd decided to become a squire and she nodded, listening attentively to him and he spoke of how he had considered becoming a mercenary. Then he spoke of the squire that convinced him to join and she smiled.

"Like wet paper? Seems like quite the formidable man! It sounds like a good job that he's with the knights." she smiled as she spoke.

Elin glanced to look at Ilia again, seeing Phobos trying to splash Ilia back and a smile spread across her face, seeing Ilia reduce the splashes more. She was glad to see how nice Ilia was being and hoped that when Rion was Phobos' age, she'd play with him in a similar way.

She listened carefully to Garland speaking of what being a squire was like, and she was glad that she'd never opted to try and become a knight. She doubted she'd ever be strong enough to do any of the training, and if she had to fight anything in a non-training situation, she doubted she'd be brace enough to.

"I admire you and all the knights. It's something I'd never be able to do. I'd be too weak to keep up with the training, and I'd never be brave enough to fight anything." she said calmly, looking at Garland before looking back to Rion.

She saw the infant giggling at Aneeka's bubble blowing, and soon she saw him knock himself off balance. Before he had chance to fall all the way into the water, she extended both of his arms and caught him, sitting him back up with him still giggling and laughing.
She watched him carefully as he leant forwards lowering his mouth into the water and attempted to blow into the water to copy Aneeka, but as he did he raised up and just blew air into the air.
She smirked slightly at the puzzled look on his face as he tried to copy Aneeka a few times before returning to just splashing the water about, babbling loudly as he did so.

"In all honesty, this is the first season I've had a proper place to work. The past few seasons Rion was too young for me to leave him, so I did a few odd jobs for people. Looked after their kids when they had things to do, occasionally clean for people. I even ended up helping out at the docks with unloading the boats." she explained moving her hand to stroke Rions hand as he played with Aneeka. "This season though, I got a job as a cook in one of the taverns. It's pretty fun so far. I like cooking, and the other cooks are really nice and helpful." she smiled slightly. It still felt odd to her, having to leave Ilia and Rion whenever she went to work, but she did enjoy the experience she was getting, and the money of course.

Child's Play (Garland)

Garland was enjoying this time to relax, he hadn't had much time for it, but whenever he does, he relishes in it.

Garland nodded absentmindedly at Elin's question. "Yup, they have that big navy and that huge university, heard from the merchants that the city had a flood recently, but I don't know the details."

Garland thought about the circumstances how he was found, it was odd, but there was nothing he could do about that, he was left in a cave with a sword, that was it. His parents must have meant to come back to him, but if so, where are they? Most likely in Sunberth, given that his sister was there.

This birthed a thought in Garland's head. Maybe one of his parents was dead and his supposed sister that Konti seer said was maybe a half-sister. He didn't know the mechanics of Konti seer powers but it could be possible maybe.

"Ball could beat almost anyone with his bare hands I'd reckon, though he holds back to keep appearances or mercy for his opponent. I fancy myself a strong fist fighter and brawler but I wouldn't be able to hold a candle against Ball if he's taking the fight seriously."

Phobos lied down on his stomach with his head raised above the water, he crawled around the shallow parts of the pool pretending to swim.

"Bwahbwahbwah!" Phobos babbled, Garland looked at Phobos, a bit confused. Garland rubbed Phobos' head and smiled.

"What are you trying to say, Pho?"

"Bwah!" He said and pointed to Ilia.

"Oh! You can to get closer." Garland placed his hand under Phobos' stomach and raised him up to the surface of the water, almost like swimming.

Phobos kicked his little feet, trying to propel himself forward, Garland carried him forward to Ilia and held him there.

Aneeka just looked on curiously.

Child's Play (Garland)

Elin heard Garland confirm that Zeltiva was the city with the navy, and also stated that it had a university. That peaked her interest and she nodded slightly, wondering if Ilia or Rion would get the chance to go somewhere like it. It seemed like it would be expensive, but also as though it would be a good way to get a good start in life.

”A university? I imagine they study a lot of things there. I’d like to see Ilia or Rion doing something like that. Even at the Academy in Lhavit.” she said absentmindedly as she thought to herself.
She’d been given a good start in life in Lhavit, thanks to the Alluvion Academy. If she ever got the chance herself, she knew that she’d like to go back to study there, or maybe even teach there if she ever mastered anything.

Then she listened to Garland as he spoke of the other squire named Ball. She couldn’t recall ever meeting someone by that name, but he sounded like a character that she should have encountered.

”He seems like someone I should look out for.” she smiled before opening her mouth to speak. ”I will always admire anyone who has the skills and uses them for the right reason. It’s because of all the knights and squires like you that Syliras is so safe. That’s why I opted to stay here for some time before heading back to Kalea.” she said smiling, before hearing Phobos babbling.

She watched as Garland helped the little boy pretend to swim to Ilia, and she couldn’t help grin even wider.

”It doesn’t look like long until he starts swimming!” she exclaimed, watching Ilia giggle at the sight.
She watched Ilia hold a hand out to Phobos, offering it to him so he could hold it while Garland held him.

“Wow! Clever!” Ilia exclaimed, complementing the boy as though Garland wasn’t there with a wide grin on her face.

Then Elin turned her attention to Aneeka and Rion, watching the two. Rion had given up trying to blow bubbles in the water and was instead blowing raspberries and reaching a hand out to touch Aneeka’s shoulder, babbling to her as though he was in deep conversation before his other hand started to splash the water again.

"Phobos is a little genius at times." Garland said and held Phobos' stomach under the water as he paddled around.

"I've always wanted to go to Mura, heard it was a nice place, calm, as safe as Syliras is..." or how safe it tries to looks as. "...The city itself is very busy, too many people I think, that's the problem with big cities, too many people means too loud and too busy, never a good place to just sit down and relax."

To emphasize Garland's point, a loud splash and several annoyed yells were heard in the main public pool. "Not even the 'quiet' places are quiet." Garland drifted Phobos back to the shallow parts and removed his hand.

To his surprise, Phobos was floating on his own and slowly splashing forward. "Oh, he's gonna be trouble now, he's learned how to swim." Phobos splashed the water again and he started sinking. Garland was quick and held Phobos' head up and righted the boy on solid ground.

"Well, maybe not yet." Garland sighed and Phobos just giggled and splashed towards Ilia. "Seems like Phobos is having a good time. What about you, Neka?"

Aneeka was ignoring Garland and was busy making raspberries with Rion and splashing around to care.

"Seems like she's having fun." Garland said and started relaxing by the edge of the pool, still keeping an eye on Phobos and Aneeka. "So, you said you were working as a cook for a tavern, which tavern?"

Elin grinned at the sight as Garland helped Phobos paddle around. It was a sweet sight and one that would only happen a few times before the little boy learnt to swim himself.

Then she heard him speak of Mura and what he'd heard of it and a light smile passed over her face.
"I've been to Mura, and everything you've heard is true, at least from my experience. It was calm, peaceful and safe, and most of the Konti are lovely!" she turned her head to glare slightly at the splashing and yelling from the main pool, before turning back to watch Aneeka and Rion as Garland brought Phobos back to the shallow end.

She saw Phobos floating on his own for a short while before starting to sink and she looked at Garland.
"Not quite yet but it won't be long now, and then you'll have a tough time." she said, a joking tone on her voice as she looked at Garland as he mentioned how his two seemed to be having a good time, and she looked towards her own.
Rion was just as excited as he'd been when they'd first met the twins, and Ilia was wading closer to Phobos so his little arms and hands could make splashes that would reach her, giggling all the while.

Then she heard Garland ask where she worked.
"The Rearing Stallion." she smiled. "I'm not skilled enough to even try working at the White Swan Inn, and I wanted to avoid the Herald's Arms. I didn't quite want to risk getting a reputation while these two are still young." she explained before turning to Garland again.

"Say, what does a squire do in his free time when you haven't got these two with you?"

"Oh, you've been to Mura? It's like the one place I'd want to visit one of these days. Mura is close to the ocean, yeah? Might buy myself a Casinor when I get enough money to buy one that is. I'd imagine the twins would love having a ship of their own."

Aneeka sat down on the pool, and then a series of bubbles floating up to the surface. She just laughed adorably. "I sometimes wonder if Aneeka gets her sense of humor from me or her mother."

Garland splashed a little water towards Aneeka and Phobos. The twins reacted with a splash of their own, though all they achieved was getting themselves and Rion wet.

Phobos looked at Aneeka and due to some connection they have because they were twins they both understood what the other was trying to say. At least that's how it looked like, maybe they just had the same idea at the same time.

Aneeka and Phobos raised up their arms at the same time and splashed at the same time, the splash was strong enough to get a bit of Garland's face wet and the twins were happy with the success. Although, they got Ilia wetter than Garland.

"The Rearing Stallion! Best tavern in the city. The Swan's nice but a bit too... uppity, sometimes you just want a bit of lowbrow fun. Do you know the owner used to be a knight? That man's age is showing but he can hold his own in a brawl if it ever gets to that. I've been on the receiving end of his cane a few times because of a few... drunken adventures. The Herald's Arms' patrons have no filter between their brain and their..." He looked over to the kids at the pool and just gave a quick glance to his privates.

"Anyway, I think I've been banned in the arms for falling asleep at the bar. I don't just mean having my head on the counter but I apparently climbed up to the bar and lied down there. I have no recollection of this event but that's the reason they said I couldn't drink there anymore."

"What I do in my free time? Hmm... Now that I think about it, I never had much free time, but usually it's in the tavern. I'd go out to the woods but the woods are a bit more dangerous recently. What about you? What do you do for fun?"

Child's Play (Garland)

Postby Elin on May 2nd, 2017, 8:54 pm

”Yeah, Mura is on the other side of the region, on a little island.” she nodded as she spoke, almost wishing that she’d stayed there. ”Owning a boat would be a dream, wouldn’t it? Just imagine the freedom, being able to travel almost wherever you wanted, and whenever you chose to.” she said calmly, trying to picture what a life like that would be like. Obviously more skills pertaining to the water would be required, but owning a ship would be liberating.

Then she heard Garland questioning where Aneeka got her sense of humour from and Elin, turned to look at him properly. She was curious as to he’d came to have his twins, and as to whether their mother was still around, but she figured that it would be best not to ask. She didn’t want to risk upsetting the squire or offending him by asking such a personal question

”Either way it’s adorable.” she smiled, before laughing slightly as the twins reacted to Garland splashing them by trying to splash back, only managing to splash themselves and Rion. It was an amusing to sight, and Rion sat confused for a bit before laughing himself and fanning the water around him, creating messy ripples.

Next she heard a small squeak from Ilia and turned to see her wiping water out of her eyes, giggling as she did so before pointing at the twins.

”They know splash!” she exclaimed, before turning to Garland and pushing water towards him as fast as she could resulting in a splash larger than Aneeka and Phobos had managed, but still not a particularly large splash.

As she watched a wicked smile spread onto Elin’s face before she looked towards Ilia and used her right index finger to beckon her over and Ilia came over as fast as she could, before Elin began to whisper in her ear.

”Why don’t you help Phobos and Aneeka splash Garland, I’m sure you’ll get a really big splash that way.” she whispered and Ilia nodded, moving back to sit next to Rion and Aneeka with a wide grin on her face.

Elin turned her attention back to Garland as she listened to his views of the taverns in Syliras. She was glad that she’d had fairly similar impressions to Garland, and then couldn’t help but chuckle slightly at his story of sleeping on the bar of the arms.

”You must have had a lot to drink for that to happen and you not remember it!” she smirked, listening to what he did in his free time. ”Honestly before this season I just cooked in my free time. I looked at the stars a few times back in Lhavit, but you just don’t get quite as good a view from anywhere else. I am looking into learning how to make a few perfumes though, and I’d like to get into gardening too.” she explained, realising how little she actually did without her children.

“Splash on one.” Ilia whispered to Phobos, using the only number she knew how to count to as the start point, and Elin hoped that the twins would understand Ilia.

The twins looked over to Ilia, Phobos understanding to wait on her signal, Aneeka just copied what Phobos was doing.

"I doubt you can garden here, not much open space for a proper garden, you can get maybe a few pots for the window stills or a few indoor plants but large gardens are out of the questi- Bwahh!" Garland just got splashed by a wave he did not except to come from the kids.

The splash itself wasn't large, but he did not see it coming. A small smile spread on Garland's face as he splashed back. The twins were pushed back from the splash and landed on their backs, both laughing as they did.

"Troublemakers." Garland heard one of the twins' stomachs rumbling, they were having fun, but they were also getting hungry. "Right, seems like you two are getting hungry." He took the twins in his arms and grabbed two baby bottles from the basket he carried.

The twins took the bottles and heard his own stomach rumble as well. "Looks like the twins aren't the only ones hungry. Anyway, after these two are done with the bottle, they'll be falling asleep in a chime, I should probably get them home, unless you don't mind the twins sleeping over and continuing their play date later."

Garland picked up the twins, made sure the towel that was covering his bits was tightly tied to his waist and he stood up and carried the twins with him.

"Don't worry, Rion, you can play with them some other time, you should take a nap too. Growing boy like you needs his sleep." Garland took the basket and the twins and made off towards the locker rooms.
