Ahh the market. Julia had never seen a worse hive of scum and villainy that could top the the market. Food was expensive and nearly mostly rotten, armor was little more than just scrap metal pieced together with snot most likely, the weapons were absolute garbage, and you'd find a better weapon in a broken down table leg than most things here.

But for some strange reason everyone kept coming back to get ripped off again and again and again.

It was quite humorous actually, at least Julia thought so. She never actually bothers to bring any money to the Market because she knows they would just be lost, either through shiny merchandise that tarnish within a day or by some pickpocket that's better than she was.

She avoided being the prey, but instead of just hiding, she decided she was going to be the predator today.

She leaned on the wall near the entrance to the market, a smile crept up to her face, she was known to be extremely optimistic, or if you ask the right people, absolutely crazy.

She skipped merrily along the street, people were just depressed, cautious, and overall, the complete opposite of what Julia was right now.

"Yup! Time to get to work." She walked into one of the alleyways, and circled back around. This time, she had a frown on her face, hugging her clothes close to her and gave a wary glance to anyone close to her.

She blended in quite well, despite her usual cherry attitude. The people gave her no notice, the cold winter air bit at her, luckily the crowd of people that always seem to inhabit the Market, no matter the weather.

She paused to look at a few assorted kitchenware in one stall, feigning interest in a particular skillet, dented and nearly useless, it wasn't even washed properly, she could see there was still blood on it.

She spotted a fish merchant, hawking his wares, he didn't even have a stall, and had a large rack where he hung his fish. He looked particularly gloomy, he had a young man with him, a teen around Julia's age.

She had a soft spot for old men and she couldn't help but notice where he was leaving.

A young adult man was selling the same wares as the old man, but it looked like he muscled his way into his spot, and was charging far higher than what was sensible.

It was normal for prices to skyrocket in Sunberth, but what she didn't like was someone else taking someone else's stall, there were unwritten rules in SB, but like all rules they were broken more times than she'd like to count.

Julia was not a good girl, some would even say she was a bad girl with a good attitude, which is bad. An optimistic criminal, is confident, and in turn is better chance for them to climb the ranks of whatever criminal organization they were in.

She groaned and started walking to the fish vendor's stall. "Curse my good heart..." She muttered under her breath and walked up to the front of the stall, by the looks of things, this fish vendor had connections, he had huge guards that did they're thing.

That thing was to look menacing, and dumb, and they were doing very good jobs at it. Julia grumbled, pretending to be annoyed at the price rather than the heavily guarded area.

Of course she wanted to help the old man, but for now, there was nothing she could do that didn't involve a huge fight, a big distraction, and a wagon full of horse shyke.

"If an opportunity presents itself, I'll take it." She said to herself, and walked off. She followed the old man and his son, they were easy to follow, they didn't try to blend in and they had a huge rack that one could spot at range.

Julia saw a hooded figure walk pass the man, and with nimble fingers, took what few coins the man had and walked off like nothing happened. Julia bristled at that and followed the man, she followed the man and watched him work.

He was a novice like herself, but he got lucky, he fumbled a few times when he went in to grab someone's purse, he was sloppy, and even she could see that. She moved in behind him and reached into his pockets, taking out the man's earnings and pocketed them herself.

Now she had to find the old man and return the money, she smiled at herself and walked back to where she thought the old man was pick pocketed. She walked down the street, holding the pouch of coins in her pocket.

She saw the old man and his son set up shop in a very deserted area of the market, there was almost no foot traffic here and only beggers and the infirm were here.

"This is depressing." She said with her usual high-pitch and chipper voice. She took out the coin pouch and walked over to the old man.

The teen walked up to Julia, he was fuming and was about to throw a punch, the old man placed his hand on the boy's shoulder, and held him back.

"Calm down, man. Here." She gave the coin pouch to the teen and turned around. "Next time, keep an eye out for people in hoods and stop staring at pretty girls."

"Wait." The old vendor called out. He fished out a single gold miza and gave it to Julia. "For your trouble."

Oh... my petching heart...

Normally, Julia wouldn't have even given the pouch back given it had an entire Miza in there, but she was feeling generous today. "No, you need this more than I do." She was about to give the coin back but the old man just closed Julia's fist on the coin.

There was no point in arguing and she just nodded.

It didn't sit right with her, taking the gold miza from the old man, even though he offered it. Still she wouldn't just sit around and feel guilty about herself, instead she was on the prowl again.

She spotted a juicy target, there was no nobles in Sunberth but there were some people better off that just love to rub it in some people's faces, and Julia had spotted one such person.

Julia tailed the person, her hands in her pockets, and she held her watched and waited as her target flaunted his wealth. He bought this and that, not even bothering to haggle down the ridiculous prices.

This guy is an idiot that got a lucky win at the betting tables or killed a rich merchant then stole his money. Either way, this man had no idea how to spend money, or have any sort of class.

You don't spend ill-gotten money in the market place, buying expensive useless trinkets. You spend them by going to the brothel, a gambling house, buy drugs, not an obscene amount of rusty pans and pots and old 'magical' armor.

She followed the man and he was just brimming with coin she could pilfer without being caught. It also seems like everyone was eying the man, even her 'co-workers'.

Everyone was being cautious, thinking this was some sort of trap or some sick joke, everyone was watching, and waiting.

Julia just walked passed him and took an entire pouch of coins from his belt and she disappeared into the crowd. It wasn't hard when your mark was busy trying to buy everything in the markets.

With Julia's initial pass, everyone just descended on the man, soon enough he was out of money and even several things he had bought.

She walked down the length of the market, now that she had actual money, she was going to be much more cautious than before. She kept her head down and placed the money pouch into her tunic's inner pockets.

She felt a hand reach into her pocket, she smiled and let the hand fish around for any loose coinage.

She grabbed the hand and turned around, she felt the struggle and she just smiled and let go. "Try harder next time."

She would go on walks and just thinking about things, anything really, she didn't really have any close connections here in the city except for her parents, she was a very happy and charismatic girl, but she never let anyone close, and she never gets close to anyone.

But she was working and she needed her head in the game, now was not the right time for thinking about her personality and her psyche. Time to pilfer some pockets.

She walked back to where the old fisherman's stall was forcefully taken, it seemed the merchant that stole the stall was paying someone for protection, and not just his guards.

Another target for Lady Jules.

She spotted the snobbish merchant and handed one of his guards a relatively large pouch compared to what was usually paid to bodyguards like them. Julia stared on, a smile crept up on her face, the big man might have deterred other pickpockets and cut purses, but big usually meant dumb and dumb meant easily distracted.

She followed the large man with her eyes, then another guard walked up to the merchant, the merchant handed him another pouch of gold roughly the same size and sent the man off, it was strange that he sent his guards away, leaving his stall almost defenseless to would be pickpockets and thieves.

She didn't bring her tools with her, and any smart merchant would lock their money and change in some sort of strong box. She had better chance at stealing from the large dumb guards than the smarter but smaller merchant.

With a small smile and a cautious step, she walked forward, following the lumbering man. The man pushed through the crowd like an bull seeing a cow.

Which now that she thought about it, that might have been the case. Although, it looked like the man was moving into the alleyway, she'd be spotted for sure if she followed him there, it was now or never.

She rushed forward and extended her hand and her dagger. She cut the rope that was holding the pouch and she quickly snatched it up. She celebrated mentally, but she turned around and saw the other guard stand behind her, a grim look on his face.

She gave a sheepish smile and tried to run away, but the man grabbed her by the wrist and held her in place. The other man looked behind him and saw the commotion, he felt for his pouch and it was gone.

"This is all just a simple misunderstanding." She said with her sheepish smile, she had that innocent child look about her and the well-practiced look that she's in trouble.

The large man however took out his own dagger and placed the blade on her finger, he spoke slow and in broken common said. "Cut finger for stealing."

Before he could do so, a frying pan flew from the crowd and hit the man on the hit, stunning him for a tick, Julia took the opportunity and kneed the man in his lower regions.

The man loosened his grip and she slipped away, running down to the alley, she ducked under the other guard as he tried to grab her.

In the crowd, the young man who was with the fish vendor casually just walked away, curses from a very irate kitchenware followed him as he slinked back into the crowd.

The two guards rushed down the alleyway to follow Julia.

Julia ran down the alleyway, dodging and weaving through the twisting corridors and streets. She vaulted over a box as she ran, she almost tripped and land on her face, luckily she caught herself just in the nick of time.

She was by far faster than those large brutes that were chasing after her, but she wasn't going to take any chances. She saw them behind her, and up ahead she saw an old run-down piece of scaffolding, it didn't take much to tear it down.

As she ran pass, she knocked an old piece of wood off it's legs, sending the scaffold tumbling down and blocking the way for her pursuers.

She kept running and running, eventually she stopped by the one of the exits from the alley and she caught her breath a small smile formed on her lips.

She took out the pouch she had pilfered. "Well, that was fun." She muttered to herself, she didn't dare open it, but she felt the weight of the pouch.

She had to thank that boy that saved her rather carefree life.

She doubled back to the other entrance of the market, this time she put her hood up, she had completely forgotten to do that, looks like had to lay low from the Market after she's done giving her thanks.

She saw the old man, but the boy was no where to be seen. She waved to the vendor and walked over to him.

"Here..." She held out the pouch she took from the rich idiot and gave it to him, she wasn't as greedy as some people thought. "Tell your son or grandson or whoever that guy was, umm... Thanks. He'd know what it would mean."

Little did she know that the entire contents of the purse was enough for them to hire a carriage out of the city and to Zeltiva.

Zeltiva couldn't possibly be any worse than Sunberth.

The old man shook his head. "I couldn't possibly accept this, young lady." He said, but she could see the need and want of it, the old man was only being humble.

Julia just smiled. "Can I have a fish, to take home?" The old man nodded and quickly found the largest and healthiest looking fish he could find. He wrapped it up and gave it to Julia.

"Cheers, Goodbye." With that, she trotted off back home, another regular day.
