Stupid stones, stupid houses, stupid streets and stupid people. It wasn’t like Aenisa was in a good mood as her feet carried her almost limping down the street, the injury was reminding her of why she was doing this. Although the arrow had missed the bone in her leg it had still hurt like nothing that Aenisa had ever experienced before, a searing pain that grew with each moment, a pulsating spear that someone twisted. She had been humiliated in front of the hidden eyes that had watched her getting beaten up and had watched her as she was almost killed in the street. Aenisa felt no joy for the city, no love had been lost for the people and thoughts of revenge had grown within her mind ever since. When she had been down and out she had seen the foxmasked man, foxface come to her aid and through his help and his help alone she had managed to survive. Aenisa knew that his help was irreplaceable and that he was pretty much the only friend that she had in the city.

Whatever the reason had been for her sudden change in reaction when she had been on her knees, it didn’t matter to Aenisa, she was going to hunt the men that had struck her down so badly. At first, she had wanted to hurt them just as badly as they had but something had been sparked within her own soul, deep within her djed that spoke of her true inner self. There was something out there that had pushed her mind onto the right tracks and she had found herself focused during the time of her stay at the Ionu’s Mercy. Thankfully during that stay, Yuri had taken care of Ignacio who had grown quite a bit since before the incident. The few people that she had in the city, thankfully they had turned out to be alright people, unlike the rest of the city. A glare of despise was directed at a passer-by who caught it, staggered a bit and then carried on, glancing over at Aenisa with a slightly frightened look on their face. That was the way that it was supposed to be, they were supposed to be afraid and avert their eyes, they were animals, all of them, animals.

It wouldn’t take too long for Aenisa to reach the nearby town square and so she would continue her search for the foxmask clad man, the one who she knew to be her friend. For a moment Aenisa wondered how she knew that he was a friend but she told herself that they had been friends for a long time, he was the only friend. Shaking her head as she came out onto the nearby town square, she searched around for the closest tavern or inn, somewhere she might try to find some information on her foxy friend. She wanted to find him, she needed to find him. It wasn’t a big square that the city had organised for the day but it was enough to house a few obnoxiously loud merchants. At least they seemed to be merchants, Aenisa wasn't listening to them as they all stood and shouted out words, seemingly into the thin air. To Aenisa’s ears it didn’t sound like any of them were in direct competition and so she failed to understand what the screaming was all about.

Although the houses were colourful they had somehow lost their colour to Aenisa, the vibrant city was slowly fading and it was not adding to her current mood. There were a few establishments around the square and Aenisa decided that she would try them, see if anyone had seen foxmask. It would no doubt be a fruitless search but the way Aenisa figured, she might as well try to find her friend than walk around aimlessly and hope to stumble into the figures. The first place offered no help to Aenisa and neither did the second, at the third place she got herself threatened and almost thrown out. More stupid people in the city. There was one further place at the small square that she hadn’t visited yet, an old building with a cracked green door guarding its entrance, it seemed hidden away somehow. Aenisa headed for the door.

The feeling of the handle in her hand was ages of use, worn down by the many hands that had ripped at the cracked door. Was this even a place that should be here? That was something that Aenisa was asking herself as she was pulling at the handle. The opening of the door caused something of a draft as the drug-filled air was swept out of the door and exchanged with the air from the world outside. It hit Aenisa like a wall, the smell of the sweet, scented and yet bitter air as it travelled past her and out into the streets, she chose to step inside, into the dark, lightly lit room. The inside was much as she had expected upon having a look inside, it was more colourful though. The colourful pillows that were distributed all over the floor were dotted in small gatherings as people seemingly came and went. The strong scent of bitterness and sweet at the same time was mixed with the smoke, it was almost too much for Aenisa, she had never had to breathe such thick air. Beyond the pillows on the floor there were a few plants as well that seemed to get life from the sole window in the establishment. The place wasn’t too crowded and as her eyes scanned the interior and the people that were enjoying whatever it was that they were doing, she spotted a few frames that seemed familiar. The other places had offered roughly the same number of similar looking body types and Aenisa started her slow and careful approach of each person.

The first few that she sneakily checked out didn’t have any masks on and didn’t seem like they were the foxmask that she was looking for. Upon approaching the third man however, he had a mask on, this could be it. Immediately she took a strong step forwards and placed her hand onto the man’s shoulder, leaning forwards a bit as she looked at him. Horrified. It wasn’t the mask that she had seen before, others had their masks on as well. “I is sorry.” Aenisa mumbled as she removed her hand from the man’s shoulder. “Thought you was some people I know.”

The smokescreen that was the interior of the smoke-den wasn’t helping Aenisa navigate her way through it, in search of foxface. The man that she had thought was foxface had turned out to be just someone who - like foxface - wanted to hide their face. Colourful sheets dividing the booths didn’t help in her search either as she moved from booth to booth in an organised way. It was a checklist in Aenisa’s head that she needed to tick off before she could continue and the missing of foxface had never occurred to her during her planning. It had been rather easy for Aenisa when she had thought about it in the hospital.

1. Find Foxface and figure out what happened after she passed out.
2. Use Foxface to find out where the first out of the three might be at.
3. Start the planning and stalking, figure out their entire routines.
4. Strike.

Four points it had been, two of which had hinged on Foxface being around when she got better but he had left her rather early when she had been at Ionu’s Mercy. Now, as she stood by the entrance to the drug-den that was The Unnamye, Aenisa found herself coughing from the fresh air that once again rushed into her lungs. The proprietor bid her farewell as she passed him by and the hotboxing of the establishment continued.

Aenisa stood for a moment as she cleared her lungs out, she sure wasn’t used to the heavy and sweet air that was on offer inside the tavern and it seemed like she had been breathing soup. The small square that was before her now again offered no further clues as to where her friend might be hiding at and so she decided that she would move on. Having decided that, she was going to start hunting the trio, she would have to start carefully and start slowly, the pain in her chest was still somewhat bothering her and slowing her down. Aenisa thought it best to head towards the Bizarre and hopefully stumble over the Gaping Maw, Aenisa had after all met them there before.

Once again Aenisa had been left alone in the city as she started down the street, away from the square and into the heart of the city. Colourful houses creeping ever closer on each side of her as she ventured down the paths towards where the streets led her. Aenisa had wanted to act today but it would not happen and she knew that if she wanted to do this the right way, she needed to be patient. Nobody wins a war by being the most aggressive, you win by being the most committed. Aenisa knew this from something that she had read in a book as a child back in Wind Reach, having had her father teach her about many aspects of life. Even if the current situation that Aenisa had found herself was not a war per say, she treated it the same way and she would do the same types of preparation that she had been taught to do for war.

Everyone has habits. Aenisa had a few, her work, her time of sleep and the time of her running. It wasn’t the best when you were being hunted, Aenisa figured that the people who had hurt her had forgotten about her since then though. Aenisa was the one that was on the hunt and it was she that would use it to her advantage. It seemed like the city was being a bit more kind towards Aenisa when she was determined in her quest to reach her goal, the streets carried her effortlessly towards a random location. The destination she still had no idea, where it would be. It wasn’t a homicidal maniac that was driving her forwards but rather it was the feeling that she had left something undone, unfinished. The words of Foxface was deeply imprinted in her psyche and it seemed that they would not go away anytime soon, Aenisa knew that she would have to do something about it all. It was the will of Ionu, it was the will of the god. Aenisa repeated these words quietly for herself as she was walking through the streets of Alvadas.

Walking past a man near a corner she could feel his eyes piercing her as she was mumbling for herself about Ionu and the gods. Was he suspicious of her, would he do something and if he did, what would he do? Was he with those that had hunted her? Aenisa felt herself grow paranoid again, she allowed for a deep frown to form across her features as she pushed her feelings deep down. Quickening her pace a little and shooting a glance over her shoulder at the man she could see that he had left his spot and was now moving through the crowd, casually but in her direction. Something was off, she focused ahead and forged on through the street, her thoughts still on her execution and preparation of her deed. She was going to have to figure out the house that her victim lived in and then she was going to have to figure out if they lived alone or with others. Having figured out the basics of that she was going to have to follow them to see if they revealed any habits that they followed and if they did, she would exploit them. It was only right that she got to figure out where she could do her deed without many eyes seeing what she was doing.

A glance over her shoulder revealed that the man that she had been walking from was still with her, he had dropped back a little now though. Weird, it felt as if the man was truly following her and yet it seemed like he was not, her feelings and mind couldn’t come to a consensus on the matter. Her heart had started to race as she was moving through the crowd. The voices of those she passed only bounced against Aenisa, her mind was occupied and it would not accept further input at that moment. All the voices around her once more blended together into a soup of noise.

Beating of her heart was pumping blood through her body, blocking much of her other senses as she was working herself up over her follower. Aenisa’s mind wandered back to the follower in the days before when she had been in the Bizarre, she had encountered death on that day. The man was pushing harder through the crowd as Aenisa quickened her pace. Changing from the subtle manner in which he had followed her, he was now properly barging through the crowd. He seemed to grow in size as he pushed people out of his way, left and right.

Who would it be this time? Aenisa did not recognize the unrecognizable face that was in pursuit of her now. Ducking down a nearby alleyway she felt a sticking pain in her chest and quickly clutched her chest with her left arm as she kept her pace quick. Although the man was pushing people out of its way there was no cry of dismay from those that he did so to, it was one weird strike against this follower. Walls was trapping them both in the street on which they were on, Aenisa casting an eye over her shoulder and the man had shrunk back down again now that the crowd was out of the way. She could see how the man opened his mouth as if to speak to her but she could hear nothing, feel nothing and now that she come to think of it, think of nothing. It was as if the entire world had come to a stop. Ionu. Aenisa slowly calmed herself under the stress as she was trying to figure out what to do, she kept walking, she had no choice, he kept walking, he had no choice.

Around the next corner she found the entrance to a small garden, pushing the door open she quickly disappeared within. Inside the walls stood high around the small garden, a tree of what seemed to host apples, stood in one corner, swaying lightly in the wind. A small lawn was well-kept and had a bench which looked all too inviting to Aenisa, she took her seat and waited for the inevitable to come. It was weird how the stress of a situation and the panic that it brought could cancel all other senses, it could bring her entire world to a tunnel. If Aenisa was to rise above the general crowd she would have to learn how to not drift into the tunnel, how not to let ones guard down and get caught by surprise. If there was one thing that Aenisa had come to understand it was that the world was not as protected as she had once lived. The world she was in needed strong minds and strong individuals. The chirping of the birds above her let her know that her hearing had returned once again and so had the feeling in her body, the smell came soon after as she sat on the bench. Aenisa needed to figure out how she would tackle the apparition that was to come through the door in a moments time.

The handle to the door slowly was pushed down and with the creaking sound of ill oiled hinges, the door started to drift open, Aenisa sat calmly on the bench. Her hand ran over the rough wood as she felt the tension rise as her eyes was squarely focused on the door ahead. Aenisa reminded herself as she was focused on the door, not to focus too much on the door or else all other senses would slide away from her as well. As the noise of the door came to a halt the door stood open, first nothing came through the door but Aenisa noticed that her surroundings were slowly fading, not by her own doing this time. “I know you be there, show you.” Aenisa spoke out into the emptiness that was the now open door. She was met with silence, rather than strike fear into her, this time she felt the annoyance of it all.

You are not doing right…” There was a pause in the voice before it continued. “… You won’t know the consequences of your actions.” From behind the door the man appeared, it was the same man that had followed her through the streets. Slightly taller than Aenisa herself, the man slowly approached in a calm manner, clearly there was no reason to be aggressive, now that Aenisa was listening. The man had no real distinguishable features and so it seemed like he might have been a concoction of Aenisa’s own mind or there was an illusion on a grander scale at play here. “What you mean?” She asked curiously as she was trying to figure out what the man was doing or whom it might be, she couldn’t tell, she frowned. “Your choices are bad; your choices will not lead you to greener grass.” The answer came, the man then bowed deeply as if he was taking his leave from the situation. A confused Aenisa didn’t know what to make of the words that she had been given, she wasn’t looking for greener grass or had even thought about grass at all. “What yo…” As Aenisa looked back up the man was gone, the weather seemed to have cleared up somewhat and she was sitting on the bench with an angry woman staring at her.

What you doing in my garden?! Get lost!” She shouted at Aenisa and pointed with her hand towards the door through which she had entered the garden. Aenisa slowly stood up, looked around the garden, it was more ill-managed and void of plant life, a stark contrast to what it had been just moments before. There was nothing to do as she stepped over a rat and walked back out through the door into the street again. She was going to have to chalk up the incident to Ionu even if she was not sure what it really had meant. Was her future not as clear and bright as she might have imagined or was there something hiding in the future that she needed to know about? There were some new insight and even further questions in her mind as she set about heading back out into the city of Alvadas. Searching for her victims and Foxface still, she must find him or them, one day.
