Allister was always there, even if she wasn't looking for him. He existed in the back of her mind, as a tiny thread drowning in emotions that didn't belong to her. The bond was new and tentative, but constant. If she was paying just a little more attention, she knew she would have seen him coming.

As it was, it took the raw roar of his anger to awaken her to his presence. It exploded in that strange new part of her mind dedicated simply to his existence. And for one chilling moment she could have sworn she felt the squishy, gelatinous eyes under her own fingers as he fended off her attacker. She met his concern halfway, throwing an ocean to gentle the fire ripping through their bond.

"We have to go", the Eth was yelling at her, all confused, unfocused eyes and crooked teeth. "It's not safe here!"

Madeira couldn't agree more.

She scooped up her bag and let the woman drag her away by the wrist. They battled through the mess of bodies until soon they were outside, and off the premises, leaving the music and Svefra far behind. Then suddenly Azuridae buckled over, her hands over her ears and her eyes screwed shut. She complained about a pain in her head as a silvery mist slipped from between her fingers.

"Allister!" Madeira demanded her bondmate with her mouth and her heart, giving the creature almost no chance to refuse. He was close, and she needed him. "Allister, hold her down!"

Even during mid day, not too many living people wandered the streets of the dilapidated ghost town. But those who did stopped to stare at the scene the trio were causing. Nervous spirits lifted sunken faces from behind dirty glass, but dared not venture out. Madeira dropped her pack and pulled out her venomously green ghostbeads that glittered prettily in the light, and her tiny crossbow, a confection of silver and black mounted on a stiff bracer.

She threw the imbued beads down on the dry, cracked cobblestone, where they bounced and flared out into a drunken half-circle. Her crossbow was slid over her wrist, and a willow bolt snapped easily into the cocked barrel. She held the loaded weapon level with the woman's chest.

If her poor, sickly bondmate could push the girl down into the beads, one of two things could happen. The ghost could be forced to leave all at once, lifting off her like ethereal dust. Or it could be trapped in her body, but leave her conscious and in control as long as she was inside the circle.

AzuridaeI auto'd quite a bit but if you want me to change anything, let me know. I tried to avoid actually hurting your PC while still trying to move the story along. Apologies if I upset you and again- let me know if you want any changes.

Allister was more than happy to simply watch everything but it didn’t last long. A split-tick before his name passed through her pink lips, the Kelvic felt a pull from within himself. The cord that connected their beings was yanked like a whip drawn across exposed flesh. The snap startled the man so much that he ran without looking where he was going and smashed his left shoulder into the wall of the house. The jarring motion reminded the novice magic-user that he was not entirely whole. The pale figure took a second to stand up straight and gather his thoughts and also to recall his wayward arm. Once he had made the decision to reconnect, Allister took off at a dead sprint towards the courtyard where the house’s front entrance emptied. That is where the call was made by Madeira and that is where he could feel her need for him.

His thin legs churned while his sinewy arm pumped underneath the weight of his heavy coat. It was harder to run without the use of one appendage. Steps were awkward and unbalanced but the sheer length of the Kelvic kept him moving down the proper path. After clearing the house, the black eyes settled upon the messy blonde figure of Madeira as she hovered over the other woman. She was covered in colors from some kind of beverage or other liquid. It’s the worst he’d ever seen his bond mate and while he would have liked to chuckle or investigate the mess, her need filled the space between them with enough urgency that it registered with the hyena.

With a last minute burst of strength and speed, Allister covered the space between the two women and himself in ticks. He crumpled in a very rough and unpracticed heap right next to Madeira. The inertia from his movements forced the disconnected arm to swing through the sudden halt and slapped him across the chest. The hyena growled at his own body while using the anger to focus upon making himself whole again. The phantom limb made its way across the lawn and to its owner where the kelvic strained his consciousness to reabsorb the djed he had expelled. The immediacy of the blonde’s cry and the tension he felt from her heart caused him to rush more than normal. The connection was made but something happened –something not good.

Allister winced and shook out his arm with full range of motion but the action was a bit like a seizure. This was intentional but it was driven by a cold tingling that had set in up and down his entire left arm and shoulder. The surges and shocks soon became just another painful aspect of being Useless.

Azuirdae was not an imposing figure. In fact, she looked rather pitiful with her hands clamped against her skull and a contorted expression of pain on her face. A split-tick’s space found the former slave enthralled by the power of pain. Jaw slack and eyes wide, the pale face looked dazed but almost pleased with the present state of things but his heart was tethered to the methodical nature of the woman in charge. This efficiency ignited a desire to please Madeira and so the black eyes –though seemingly unfocused- followed the actions carefully taken by the small spiritist. The tossing of the beads was curious. Slow and unaccustomed to such things, the hyena allowed a single syllable chuckle to fly from his metal mouth. His brain registered nothing but his emotions caught on quickly to the intentionality of the Craven lady.

Like a virgin awakening to the wonderful pleasure of the flesh, the Kelvic’s mind was opened. The beads were a tool! The command had been a prompt and both were one in the same. There was no hesitation beyond this point. Allister, ghastly and meager, flushed with purpose and strength born of a need not his own. He stood and took hold of the broken party-goer around her shoulders like a very aggressive hug. He squeezed so tight that his biceps felt the pressure of her arms the instant her back slammed into his chest. Long, boney fingers wrapped around pointed elbows masked by the sturdy leather of his sleeves and locked her in place. The hyena didn’t even take a breath but simply stared at Madeira as if searching for approval of his actions even as he used his own weight to heave them both to the ground. His legs were behind the young woman’s so when Allister bent his knees and arched himself backwards he prevented Azuridae from stopping the fall. Fall they did –like two trees in the forest. The kelvic absorbed most of the shock with his upper back; the leather of his coat smacking the stones while a gust of wind was pushed from his lungs in a gasp.

Still watching the eyes as bright as a clear sky, the former slave twisted his hips while pushing up with one leg and shifting his arms off of the woman. It took but three ticks to slip her inside the ring of beads once they reached the ground and the Kelvic popped up onto his knees with his feet under his rump. His back ached and his head was staring to hurt but the man didn't care. Now on Azuridae’s right side, Allister pressed his left forearm heavily across her abdomen just below her naval while his right arm mimicked the posture across her collarbones. His elbows were bent slightly past a right angle and the weight of his upper body was hunched over the young woman. While not being a muscular man or particularly healthy, the hyena had enough mass to hold down the smaller woman and he derived confidence in this fact. An attitude conveyed by a playful grin that was cast over to the icy blue stare of Madeira. Her intensity sent a shiver up his spine but that only served to fuel the fires of admiration and awe within the animal.

The man panted softly with a wild expression on his face. It had been a long time since he had been allowed to be aggressive and physical. Clearly the animal inside enjoyed the dust up. He wanted to speak. Allister wanted to know if Madeira approved. The need to find answers was not from a curious mind but the heart of a servant. He had spied on his mistress –tracked and followed her. She had discovered this and he wanted to know if he was going to be in trouble over the matter. A piece of his thoughts spoke towards earning leniency for being useful. Most of his being was simply happy to be near Madeira in any capacity but there was that tiny sliver of dysfunction deep, deep down within the recesses of the shadow cast by his abused and broken essence that wanted something else.

Pain. Allister did not miss his old life but there was a side of him that relished the experience of pain. To the man with grey skin and metal teeth, it was a validation of life. So amidst this turmoil, he said nothing and waited for his next instruction. The hyena held his position and drove his weight through the woman until he could feel the stones beneath. Whatever the beads were for was not his concern but he got the impression that the brunette wasn’t supposed to be outside of them anymore. It was a sick twist of fate that a man who dreamed of freedom from his shackles and tiny cage had become a physical restraint upon another being. The rush was confusing but invigorating and he had his bond mate to thank for it. He stared at her- heart in his eyes and the emotion was plain to see that he would do anything for her.

Anything.

Everything.
