20th, Winter of 517 AV

Q

Ah.Tarsin's Boarding house.
A place filled mostly with visitors, cheapskates and non-full fledged citizens.

Andral fell in all 3 catagories.
He sighed to himself as he sat deeper into the couch in the main lobby, waiting for something interesting to happen.

A whole season had passed and he had settled well into Ravok. But now what? He had already seen everything he wanted to see!
He needed something to do, otherwise he'd die of boredom.

He sighed again, thinking back to the time with the fortune teller. He at the time he was full of enthusiasm, but over the season, he'd let himself get distracted about what he actually had to do.
Find a place for someone with his powers.
He looked at his hand and willed his astral fingers to wiggle underneath his skin. A nervous habit.
'Not even the Institute has courses for Projection. That means I'm unique...'

But what does that matter? He barely scratched the surface of his powers. His ability was laughable compared to the Shinya.
And maybe courses for Projection were only for the Elites.
That made him, again, useless.
No part to play in this world.

He sighed again, a third time.
Suddenly he heard the rabble of a fight going on outside.

'Give it back or I'll remove your hand along with it!'

He sighed a fourth time, this time in relief.
Something had finally happened.

He chuckled under his breath and went outside to see the fighting.

Click meThe idea is that you got caught stealing or something, but you can easily interpret it another way id you want

[Tarzin's Boarding Home] New beginning [Elijah Wylder]

20th of Winter, 517 AV

Elijah woke up excited. It was a new city after all, full of places to see and people to be. (He's a con, he impersonates people). He looked out of the window,

"What do you have for me Ravok?" he said to himself.

It's been two days now since his arrival in Ravok and nothing interesting had happened so far. He had second thoughts regarding the city. Is it safe for people like him? For people who con other people for a living?
Regardless he decided to go look for a job, after all if conning doesn't earn him anything, something must. He got dressed, took his mizas , his shortsword and went out.

Just as he got out of his room, a man raced past him almost knocking him down. Elijah cursed and locked the door. But something was wrong. Suddenly everyone in the lobby was rushing outside . He got curious. He tried to stop a few but none would. Finally he caught a man's arm .

"What's happening??" Elijah asked.

"Someone's getting beaten up!" replied the man in a hurry and rushed outside. Elijah followed.

"Give it back! or I'll remove your hand with it!" said a voice in the distant.

Elijah went out outside. There was a huge crowd gathered. He made his way through the crowd up front.
There was a man with a boy lying beneath him, trembling in fear. He was not more than 16 yet the man showed him no mercy.

"Stole a man's gold, he deserves it" said a Ravokian from within the crowd.

"Damn these thieves! disturbing the peace of the city!" said another.

Certainly Ravokian citizens are not a big fan of thieves. A bit strange for people who literally worship the god of chaos to hate chaos. But Elijah was no one to judge.

Elijah is someone who wouldn't generally care. But he couldn't bear the sight of a boy being tortured but there was nothing he could do.

He looked to his left, there was a man there not older than him, brown eyed, with small tattoos that looked like scars.

" Why isn't anyone stopping him?" Elijah asked him.

[Tarzin's Boarding Home] New beginning [Elijah Wylder]

Q

Time to wiggle my astral fingers.

Q

Looking at the scene before him, Andral felt himself freeze up.

The boy was barely 16 years old. If he was stealing, it probably meant he was either an orphan, or one of the kids from the Docks.
By law, the kid was under the Guard's jurisdiction.
He cursed under his breath. Even if he wanted to intervene, he'd be risking his citizenship at best. And at worst....

'Why isn't anyone stopping him?'

Andral's eyes flickered to the speaker. A dark haired man, a stranger from the looks of it.

Of course no one would help the boy. Under Ravok's rules he was to be sentenced for his crime.
It was the Law. And the Law is absolute.

No. Wait.
There were a few sympathetic faces in the crowd. People who turned their heads to try to hide what was going on.
No one wants to go up against the guard.
Not when the guards can use force against any citizen, but no one can raise arms against a guard.

No one in that crowd could raise an arm to help, not without being seen and sentenced for their crime.

Except....

Andral placed both of his palms toghether, as if praying. He pressed his palms hard against each other, using the tension to facilitate detachment.

He'd need about 30 ticks or so to detach his left arm.
He grit his teeth and hoped that he'd get enough time to execute his plan.
The guard was getting very angry....

OOCIf we follow Proph's advice and make it an Ebonystryfe soldier, Andral has no clue that this guy is Ebonystryfe.
Also I'm expecting you to jump in and buy me some time. No violence, that'll make things more complicated.

AND THEN A MAN RAISED HIS VOICE...

The man was getting very angry. His face red with anger.

"Do you know who you stole from? huh? Do you know who I am?!" the man kicked him.

"I'm an Ebonstryfe soldier you little rat!!" boasted the man in his fierce voice.

The little boy was begging for mercy, crying and screaming. Elijah's heart felt heavy. Something was needed to be done.

The Ebonstryfe man grabbed the boy by his collar, the boy resisted but was of no use.

And then suddenly.....

" Wait! Hold on a second!" Elijah shouted not being able to hold his voice any longer.

The whole crowd's attention was now towards Elijah who was dramatically walking towards the opposite side of the soldier, slowly, taking his time. Elijah has been in such situations before, creating a scene in public was one his many ways to con people.
The soldier however, was a bit confused, he's never met a person in Ravok who would generally have a say against the Ebonstryfe. So who was this stranger?

Amazingly the whole crowd was patient enough to wait for what this stranger had to say. Shocked that someone actually raised his voice.

"umm...ahh....so...I...ugh..." Elijah has had a way with words so how come lost it now? He thought to himself. But he knew he didn't really have anything to say. He was just trying to get his attention but at the same time does he really wanna mess with the Ebonstryfe?

He needed to persuade this man to let the boy go. But what could he do.
Still finding his words, he spoke "Listen,...."

And even before he could compete his sentence.....

Q

Aaand Safe!

Q

Yes!
Using the distraction, Andral managed to Detach his left arm and let it float freely.

Let's see here...
Attacking the Soldier was out of question, especially since he was an Ebonystryfe.
But with whatever the boy stole out of the way, the Soldier would have no reason to continue grilling the boy.

Andral let his arm stretch outward to where the boy's hand was.
He felt his astral arm pass through the boy, a strange sensation.
He let his still non corporeal fingers wrap around whatever it was he stole, making them juuust solid enough to feel the object in his hand.

Then, with the speed of an arrow shot from a bow, Andral pulled his arm back, quickly grabbing the object with his right hand and tucking it under his cloak.

No one would have noticed at that speed, not with their backs turned to face the stranger.
Excluding the bewildered boy, who only felt the sudden pull of the object as it dissapeared from his hand.
And the stranger, who was faced toward Andral when it happened.

Andral turned to the Ebonystryfe and said:
'Sir, what did the boy steal from you anyway?'

With the object gone, the Ebonystryfe risked public ridicule if he didn't retreat now.

Come to think of it, what it that the boy stole?

He let his right hand rest on the object as he tried to figure out what it was simply based on the tactile sensations.

Unbeknownst to the callously brash duo, the soldier who was chastising the young lad was not alone. Eyes from a building across the canal watched intently with magical veils lifted. The auras were read and the sleight of hand was made- still, intervention was not necessary at this point. The thief was upset, certainly, but any boy of sixteen was a man by the world’s standards and he would answer for his crime. The soldier jerked the lad to his feet and twisted his arm behind his back. One blue eye and one eye entirely white stared with a fiery gaze; first to the dark-haired fellow who interrupted only to stutter and then moved to the other young man who had posed a proper question.

A second soldier and two other people robed in black with hoods cast up slipped into a square around the accused. The new soldier did not have a white eye and took control of the prisoner. The man who had been challenged now had free hands to reach out and touch the black-haired punk. “I hope you find your tongue boy…at the bottom of the lake.” The burnt piece of skin beneath his clothes radiated as the power of his deity coursed outward into the target. The curse had been passed. The procession quickly followed the heavy bootfalls of its leader who gave a sharp stare to the man who thought justice should be carried out in the streets. It was plain to see that he was no Ravokian for no citizen would challenge the will of a member of Ebonstryfe.

“Mind yourself, outsider.” At this point, all citizens would be making space between themselves and the two upstarts not to mention casting unkind glances and looks of disgust. The soldier with the white eye continued. “His crimes shall be held in trial at the Vitrax by a council of wise and just citizens.” With a spit at the man's boots, the soldier shoved his way past Andral but not before dropping his weight behind the armored shoulder to administer a blow that would level most people. Given the narrow space of the platform, the target of the assault would need some kind of fancy footwork to avoid a bath in the lake.

Across the canal, the magically gifted eyes continued to watch and made note of all that had transpired even after the two Stryfers and their apprentices hauled away the young thief. There was no tolerance for larceny in a city where everyone had a job. No homeless, no poor and Rhysol was to thank for all of it. A clean city that functioned like a well-crafted animation was the god’s gift to his people and they loved him for it. Citizens and long-term visitors –even slaves- revered Rhysol for his benevolence and the leadership that trickled down through the ranks of his orders. Ravokians loved the men and women in black but they worshipped their god with fervor and joy. While the scene came to a close, the hidden stares from behind the curtains dispatched a message to a comrade through one of his agents.

NotesGuys, welcome to Ravok. If you ever have questions, send me a PM. I don't mind players using Ebonstryfe and Black Sun characters in their stories but please do so responsibly. I hope my interruption has given you a bit more light as to how they are viewed by the public. Further more, Elijah- you have been cursed by a Chaon. Your tongue will begin to falter during this thread and cease to work entirely after 24 bells. From this point, you will not be able to talk nor control the limp muscle. This will last for thirty days OR until you can ICly put the pieces together of what happened. ;)

The Ravokian Welcome

"I hope you find your tongue boy....in the bottom of the lake"
were the words of the Stryfer Elijah had messed with.

The man waved his hand in a certain fashion. Suddenly, Elijah felt a pain in his mouth, as if his tongue has been detached. The pain faded as quickly as it appeared. But there was something about it that Elijah had a bad feeling about. Regardless, he didn't care much. He looked around him, Ravokians casting unkind glances. The crowd quickly cleared, back to their busy schedule.

Was it really worth it? He thought. Elijah is not known for sympathy but the boy getting tortured for theft reminded him of his childhood. Not so cruel but he did get punished. The Ebonstryfe are somewhat more dangerous than Elijah thought.

Elijah glanced at the brown-eyed man who was now approaching him. He gave a friendly nod, the first one Elijah has received so far in Ravok.

"Well that didn't go so w...ell..ll" stammered Elijah.

What was that? Elijah doesn't stammer. The 'possible ally' looked amused as well. This was indeed a very singular thing that never had happened before. Elijah tried to speak again but failed all the same.

" wh..a..e..ty...wajajsn...Ijwba..."

Now shocked Elijah touched his tongue. It was there of course but not so much moving.

"W..ha..tt....e..z...h..a..pa...nin." he asked scar-face whose facial expression clearly suggested he didn't understand a word.

Q

Dunked into Lake Ravok

Q

Andral barely caught himself on the ledge of the platform as the lower half of his body plunged into the lake.
He quickly pulled himself up, patting himself dry.

'Congratulations' He mused in his head 'Not only did the Ebonystryfe almost catch you trying to help a thief, but also dunked you into the lake! Great job Andral!'

But it seemed like the Stryfe weren't really interested in whatever it was Andral had taken from the boy.
A coin purse, from the looks of it.

Why go to such lengths to get back a coin purse, only to forget to get it back?
Andral shook his head, he'd dealt with enough of the stryfe for the season.
Just one more season without an infraction and he'd be a full citizen.
This event had shown how things work around here. The Stryfe is absolute, and he was lucky to get away unscathed.

He looked up at the stranger who had arrived, and gave him an apologetic nod.
He'd been dragged into this mess. Probably didn't even know who the Stryfe were.

'Well that didn't go so w...e..ll..ll'

Huh? What was going on?
Andral watched in horror as the man's words deteriorated into garbled nonsense.
Andral didn't know what the Stryfe did to him, but he knew that the Stryfe DID have some strange powers.
A gift from Rhysol or something, based on what he'd heard.

He'd wondered if the man had gotten himseld poisoned or something.

"Hey man....are you....alright? If you aren't feeling well you should go see a doctor"

Oh right. Petch. The man was a stranger.
Andral was pretty sure he wouldn't be allowed into the Healing hand.

OocWe should go our seperate ways at this point. Sorry for taking too long to reply. I am stuffed full with christmas food. Omnomnom
