The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

35 Summer

Lua had decided her home in the Okomo Estates was too lonely. Besides the chickens she used for eggs, she was the only living thing that lived there. Even then, the chickens were purely used for food and weren't really good companions. Chickens were cowardly, and there was no way Lua would be able to let her hold them. They barely handled her entering their little coop to get their eggs. And with all the panic involving recent Zith activity, Lua definitely wanted a real companion. A dog, she decided, would be best. She only had one pet in the past: her parents had bought a Trubliss for the family when she was fourteen, a nice little dog that was very loving. He was still alive, actually, still living with her parents. The last Lua heard about little Leto was that he was on his last stretch. It would only be a couple more years now before...

She didn't like thinking about it. Leto was such a big part of her later childhood, and he held a big spot in her heart. Perhaps when she bought this new dog, she could introduce the two! Leto never really interacted with other dogs, not while Lua still lived with her parents. She wondered how he would react, especially to an energetic puppy. She did want to buy a puppy, but not one so young that she would have to teach them everything. She would at least want them to be house trained, so she would get an older dog that wasn't quite matured yet.

It made her wonder; since they'd use the bathroom outside, she'd probably have to keep the door open for them. It was summer so that sounded fine, but Lua wondered how it'll go in the colder seasons. Maybe by then she could buy a bigger plot of land for them to run around in, and let them be more of an outdoors dog? She'd let them inside for snuggles, of course, but the room to run around would benefit them greatly.

She thought about all this as she walked across the peaks of Lhavit to Zintia. She thought about what dog breed she'd want. She thought about buying a small breed, but she was curious about the larger breeds. She'd figure it out when she got there; she'd hope one dog would stand out to her, big or small, by its personality.

35 Summer

She got to Piramba's Pet Shop at around 14 Bells. The front room was spacious with pictures of animals and even some well-behaved animals laying around. When she entered some perked up their head and wagged their tails while others snored and rolled onto their side.

Fai Piramba, the owner of the shop, had heard her enter and came from downstairs. "Good afternoon," She said with a polite smile. "How can I help you today?" Lua had heard about the Fai, but had never come to the building herself and was surprised to see she was her age. Her age, and already owning a business? When her parents had gotten Leto, she remembered someone else was owning it. Probably her father.

Lua returned her smile, though hers was wider. Her grins always spread across her face, showing off her teeth. "Hello! I was, ah, hoping to buy a dog today. A new companion and friend."

"Wonderful! Always a good thing to hear." Fai led her to the back, where there was a large common room for the animals to wander. A number of dogs, adolescent and matured, bounded up to her and started sniffing her, licking her feet, jumping up and trying to lick her face. Immediately Lua let out a laugh and a playful smile spread across her face. She hadn't expected so many of them to be so excited to see her! She loved them!

She knelt down and pet as many of the dogs as she could. Fai behind her let out a laugh and asked, "Do you know what sort of breed you're looking for? Or just a dog that would make for a great companion?"

"A-A friendly breed, please!" Lua struggled to speak as the dogs licked at her nose and rubbed against her for more pets. "A big one, not, ack!, not too big!" A dog had pounced up onto her, nearly knocking her over and pushing others away. It was a fawn-colored Kiparon, not quite fully matured but not a helpless puppy either. Lua liked its assertiveness, jumping onto her lap despite being nearly too big for it. She rubbed her hand over its head as it breathed in her face.

"Aw, she likes you!" Fai chuckled. And lucky for the dog, Lua liked her back. She looked over at Fai as the dog continued to lick at her ear. "I think I'd like this one! She's perfect!"

Fai stepped forward to shoo the dogs off and away from Lua so she could stand. She knelt by the Kiparon and asked Lua, "Do you have equipment already or will you need to buy some here?"

"I'll need to buy here," Lua admitted. "A leash and a collar, mainly. I have plans on buying the food and bowls for said food on my way back." She chuckled, pleased with herself. "I've actually had this part planned out for a while, all I needed was a day to come get a dog!"

They went back into the front room, where the transactions took place. The Kiparon followed excitedly, barely able to stand still as Fai put a large collar with a leash clipped to it around her furry neck. She handed the leash to Lua, who took it with a hand. She was shaking with excitement, feeling as energetic and excited as the dog herself!

The total for the dog and the collar and leash came out to 31 kina. It was a large chunk of her budget, but Lua had been saving up for this so she had no worries. Once everything was signed and the kina was handed over, Lua was leaving the pet store with her new companion. She was going to name her Lynelle, a beautiful name for a beautiful dog.

35 Summer

The walk back was just as long as before, of course, but now Lua worried little Lynelle didn't mind. If she had to, she'd be willing to carry her for a bit when her paws got tired. She seemed heavy, being a bigger breed, but Lua could handle a mile or so at a time of carrying her. And that's exactly what ended up happening. There were times when Lynelle didn't want to walk anymore, laying down and yawning, so Lua picked her up and carried her over her shoulder so she could watch what was behind them as they passed. By the time Lua grew too tired to carry her, she was willing to walk again. Rinse and repeat.

She stopped at a couple shops on the way home, buying a couple bowls for food and water as well as a bag of general feed. She'd probably end up spoiling Lynelle, giving her some food she cooked, but she didn't want that to be too often. At least, she'd try not to. It depended on how well of a beggar Lynelle would be, and how strong-willed she would be against it.

When she got home, Lynelle was already quite tired from the walk. It was early evening so it was cooling down, at least. Lynelle wandered around the house as soon as Lua opened the door, sniffing around but thankfully not peeing on anything. She had peed during the walk, mostly on bushes and light poles, but Lua wondered if she was smart enough to know not to pee indoors. She should've asked Fai.

She knelt down on the ground, and Lynelle ran back to her with a bark and a lick on her face. Lua wrapped her arms around her, rubbing her with a grin. "Welcome to your new home, Lynelle. Hope you like it!"
