The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

10th Autumn 519 AV
Sometime between the Dusk and Midnight rest period

What a long day, thought Ennisa, as she slumped down into the chair at the Scholar's Demise. It was her second favourite place to drink in the city - the first being the Star's Shadow, which was, of course, shut now that Autumn had swung around. Second best was still best though; the Scholar's Demise was not an establishment to sniff at. In reality, Ennisa wasn't exactly fussy tonight. Her long day had consisted of escorting a haughty traveller named Deborah around Lhavit, who had absolutely insisted that she deserved it, though Ennisa hadn't seen any proof of that. Youchi had finally conceded and directed Ennisa to be that unwilling escort.

Over the course of the day, she had been bombarded with what felt like ten thousand questions, most of which seemed to be one part curious and ten parts disdainful. Even at the end of the day, Ennisa hadn't been able to figure out if that disdain was addressed to her, or to the city. If it was the latter, the young woman couldn't fathom why 'Delightful Deborah', as she had taken to sarcastically calling her, had ever left her native Riverfall. That led her to believe that the disdain was addressed to her instead.

Ennisa had managed to be courteous enough to ignore it. Now that the day was close to over, she could relax, let the stress simmer down, and she had decided to do this by treating herself to a few drinks at the inn. Maybe even get up to a bit of mischief, if she could figure out a way.

After a few moments, Ennisa left her cloak draped over the chair to claim that little spot of the establishment as 'hers', and got up to go and grab herself a drink. There was a short wait to be served, so while she waited she tapped her fingers absently against her forearm and took a good look around the bar area for anyone she knew. Not a one. When it was her turn to be served, she turned and smiled broadly at the Ethaefal bartender. "I'll have a glass of your finest 'Stolen Night' if you would." She handed over the two kina for the beverage, waited a few moments more whilst it was prepared, and then took the drink and walked back to the table where her cloak was.

With a contented grunt, she settled into the chair with the drink placed in front of her. Yet, despite her best intentions to simply relax, Ennisa found her gaze wandering again almost immediately, the aforementioned mischief in mind. She turned and twisted around in her chair, scanning the various people that she could just about see in the dimly lit tavern, looking for some inspiration.

Inspiration soon hit her square in the face in the form of a woman. She was such a remarkably presented woman that Ennisa couldn't help but be impressed, then curious, then greedy. She was dressed in a fascinating manner. To Ennisa's best guess, the clothing looked expensive, which boded well. The next thing that caught her attention, as she studied her carefully, was the way she sat, which was somewhat stiffly, something which could mean a few things. First, she was well-educated and thus bred to be a little more prim and proper than the average Joe. Second, that she was as insufferably prissy as the Delightful Deborah. Ennisa grimaced at that thought. Thirdly, that she was uncomfortable. Uncomfortable, and in need of a good conversation with an honest stranger...

Yes, well. Honest, she wasn't, but chatty companionable stranger she most certainly could be. Without bothering to think that the woman might want a bit of alone time, Ennisa scooped up her cloak in one hand and the cocktail in the other, and strode over to the place that the stranger was sitting. With a chirpy little smile, she introduced herself and sat down unprompted, "Hello! My name's Ennisa." She paused. Damn. Should she have given a false name, bearing in mind... She clarified and said, "My name is Ennisa.. Sky. Most people call me Miss Sky. Can I sit here? Thanks." She took a sip from the drink, and continued, "So, Miss..? Are you a local here, or just visiting? I don't think I've seen you around before. It would be a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

Madeira looked up from her glass, bewildered, as a force of nature disguised as a human woman bumbled her way to a seat at her table.

"Please, help yourself", she hummed wryly as this woman made herself at home in her personal space. "Miss Sky, was it? You can call me Madeira."

The Spiritist stifled a yawn behind her glove. She sat straight and tall, with not a hair out of place in it's braided bun, but behind her cat-eye glasses her bloodshot eyes bellied just how exhausted she was. She wore blue velvet on her body, blue emeralds at her throat and in her hair, and blue paint on her lips. The effect made her look rather one dimensional in the glow of the blue alcohol flames that burned at every table.

"Yes, despite what my accent might suggest, I'm local. And it seems that the man who was suppose to meet me has stood me up, so I appreciate the company." she laughed thinly, swirling the melting ice around her glass as she studied her unanticipated guest.

The woman looked to be about her age, tall, blonde, and shabbily dressed in trousers and a grey shirt. She would have been completely unremarkable, interchangeable with a hundred other woman in that city, if not for the glow of cocky, swaggering confidence that poured off of her. That glow drew the eye, sharpened her against the crowd around her until they became nothing but the background she was superimposed upon.

Spinning a thin thread of dijed from her soul, Madeira strained and blinked her tired eyes until the woman's aura became visible. And sure enough, that confidence was an actual, measurable phenomenon with her, even when viewed by the lowest of novices. The realization made her smile.

"The pleasure is mine", she reached a gloved hand across the table, spiked with its many strange and gaudy rings, and shook demurely. The affiliation ring woke with the contact, sparking in her mind with an image of... blankness. This woman did not belong to a school, to a religion, to a business or even had a strong tie to a family. Madeira was taken aback, having never met someone so untethered before.

"What can I do for you, Miss Sky? Don't tell me a woman like you couldn't find more lively company than me tonight."

It had been a long few days. Madeira hadn't left home but for work, and hadn't slept more than two consecutive bells at a time. Jomi was unwell in his mind, and she did not trust him to wander about without her constant supervision. She had him locked in the basement at that very moment, under Infinity's watchful eye, as she came to the Scholars Demise to meet Yantavi. But she had been waiting for nearly forty chimes and the slimy Inarta drug dealer was nowhere to be found. She had wanted to see if giving Jomi her tainted blood would help level him out. Or if nothing else she wanted something that would give her the energy she needed to keep herself on her feet and everything under control.

Yet in the midst of all this madness it was refreshing to have a conversation with someone sane. Especially when that someone was as intriguing as the woman sitting opposite her. Madeira found herself leaning closer to listen.

Well, aren't you courteous? Ennisa took the proffered hand as graciously as she could, and smiled in a shark-like manner. Despite thinking that Madeira's fashion choices were a little strange (Ennisa didn't particularly like gaudy jewellery, thinking it tacky), she thought the woman herself was interesting. Interestingly demure, polite, charming... Ennisa found herself trying to guess what her social standing was. If she was important, she didn't know about her to recognise the name, but then perhaps she was well-known in other circles. If so, which circles were they? A fashionista? A.. a...

As she was drawing blanks, Ennisa thought it would be best to somehow try to figure out who she was. Then she could make her move, try out a bit of deceivement. Ennisa, or rather, Miss Sky took a polite sip from her drink and enjoyed the accompanying pleasurable fizz of alcohol entering her system. To answer Madeira, she replied saying, "Oho, I don't need lively company. Not all the time, anyway. If one was to constantly be on the go, that would leave one rather tired, would it not?"

For some reason, she had started talking in a slightly different accent to normal. Whatever the reason for it she couldn't remember, but she now promptly decided it was a bad idea, at least without having practised first. Now she couldn't revert back to normal without drawing attention to the fact that the previous accent wasn't normal. The added disadvantage was that she would certainly struggle over some words. She felt like rolling her eyes at her rookie error, but that would certainly give off the wrong impression. It was too late to change now.

Soldiering on, she sighed, "Besides, Miss Madeira, I'm in a bit of a quandary - for I'm both celebrating and mourning at the same time." She shook her head sadly, though of course, she was lying. An idea was beginning to form. Without giving Madeira the chance to enquire into the half-formed lie, she launched into asking, "But never mind that for now! Please, let me buy you a drink. There is no limit, in fact I would be positively pleased if you would go for the most expensive thing on the menu. After all, I need to celebrate with someone, and I'd be most delighted if that someone would be yourself!"

"What will it be, Madeira? Then I'd love to know a bit about yourself. Your story, if it's a happy one, and even if 'tis not I am all ears. Life full of happiness and tragedy, after all." Never had she felt so chatty before, though she was glad that so far the stupid accent hadn't tripped her up entirely. The chit-chat was mostly distraction on her part whilst she pondered the plan. The alcohol was a confidence aid, both for Ennisa's confidence in the trickery to come, and for Madeira to feel relaxed and content in Miss Sky's company. Conversing with strangers in a bar was, after all, a slightly risky business. Before she enacted the plan, Ennisa figured she would have to overcome that hurdle first.

With pleasant conversation, a good time, and liquor... Plentiful liquor.

Well, this one is an odd duck, Madeira mused, as the Sky's accent wavered drunkenly from word to word: here a little posh, there a little svefran, she even heard a smidge of herself mirrored in the vowels. It wasn't drastic and the Spiritist didn't think much of it. In her home city there were people who tried on fashionable accents the same way they tried on fashionable hats; worn for a season and summarily discarded. Sky was a bad actor and an even worse impersonator, but Madeira found the nostalgia charming.

Sky said she was celebrating, and mourning, but before Madeira could get a word in edgewise to ask why the woman had already moved on. She encouraged her lavishly to order the most expensive item on the menu, so that they could celebrate together. Madeira took one look at her drab, street-worn clothing, made the connection of what that might say about the state of her wallet, and cut her off.

"Actually, where I come from it's considered bad luck to buy your own drinks when you're celebrating", she lied smoothly. "Let me, and then you can tell me what we're toasting." She waved down Aleah and asked for a bottle of their nicest red and glasses to share. As the Eth disappeared behind the bar Madeira sipped the last of her watered whisky, letting the warm burn mingle with her fatigue into a pleasantly sleepy buzz.

She was quick to regret it though, as it seemed drinking just made this woman's energy harder to keep up with. Almost immediately she had launched from the ambiguous celebration to asking about Madeira's story. Was it happy? A tragedy? She would love to know.

"Not much to tell", Madeira pacified. Her life had been a rollercoaster the last few years, but she wasn't about to delve into her life story with a chatty stranger. "I grew up in Alvadas, and was moved here about a year ago to fulfill a contract. See, my family are all mages and we excel in spiritism. The Dusk's wanted to expand their skills in the practice and contacted us, so I was sent out here to teach them. You can call me professor if 'miss' starts boring you", she winked impishly. "It's a bit contentious, isn't it? I hope you won't object to sharing a bottle with a tower mage. I won't let politics ruin your night if you won't."

Just then Aleah came back with a dusty green bottle and two stemmed wine glasses. Uncorking at their table, she poured each woman a generous glass of a sweet red so dark it was nearly purple. Madeira counted out the ten kina she owed and the Eth quietly wished them a good evening before returning to her other customers, leaving their bottle behind. Madeira took her glass and raised it between her and Sky with a smile.

"So, are you going to tell me your story? What are we celebrating tonight?"

Ennisa was supremely glad that Madeira seemed to be an amicable sort of lady. She considered herself lucky to have chosen this particular woman to chat to tonight - lucky that she hadn't been immediately dismissed, ignored, or punched. She nodded sagely as Madeira recounted her brief tale, although she almost did a double-take when she learned that she was talking to a mage. Shyke. As a Lhavitian, she was accustomed to the idea of magic, and it didn't scare her... much. What worried her more was the powers she might have. Ennisa, being a somewhat ignorant young woman, didn't really know what 'Spiritism' was, and could only guess about what that school of magic might involve.

There was the added political tension too. When Madeira mentioned it, Ennisa mused out loud, "I suppose it is a contentious issue, but I've not been affected by a mage personally. Not that I know of. That certainly won't ruin my night." She took a deep swig of her drink, which finished it off neatly. The resulting hiccup she carefully hid behind her hand. She levelled a brief glance at Madeira as she tried to read her, but the woman was a difficult person to read. She seemed friendly enough, but knowing she was a mage... Gods, that complicated things.

Nevertheless, she'd started, so she would damn well finish. After Aleah left, Ennisa took the stem of the wine glass and resolutely raised it to meet Madeira's toast. The two glasses came together with a soft chink, and she took a more refined sip of this new beverage, so kindly provided by the mage. The wine slid sweetly onto the palette. Probably a little too sweetly, too easily. Ennisa thought to herself that she best not keep drinking at the pace she was going at, otherwise she would probably end up under the table, and that wouldn't fit into the image she was poorly attempting to display.

"What are we celebrating tonight?" Madeira's question instilled a certain sense of mild panic within her soul, as she finally had to launch herself over the precipice into the unknown depths of her patchy story. Petchpetchpetch..- "Aah yes! You'll bear with me as I explain my story?" Ennisa set the wine glass down and smoothed back her hair. Her eyes lit with a certain vigour as she began her story. The lies instilled a mildly unhinged excitement within her, and it was this excitement that coloured her accent-twinged voice and gave her story some texture.

"I was brought up here in Lhavit, so unlike you, I have never travelled from the city of my birth. My family has never had much kina, why, you could probably tell that from the very way I dress! We weren't poor, but we certainly weren't rich. Anyway, as time has progressed, my younger brother started to get a bit restless, shall we say?" Ennisa leant forwards in a slightly conspiratorial manner, and pressed her fingertips together. The blue flame sat in the centre of the table lit her features and gave her a ghostly glow that matched Madeira's blue theme.

Should she tease, just a little? Should she be as barefaced as possible? Ennisa decided that her story should be as close to the truth as she could make it. She continued, her voice ever so slightly lowered as she attempted to draw Madeira's attention, "So, my brother worked hard, and often. He saved and scrimped as much as he could. He grew fascinated with jewels. With rocks. Y'know, he used to collect them. I can't believe I used to make fun of him for that..."

Ennisa sighed, and briefly considered how much she should ham it up. She decided upon medium amounts of ham. She closed her eyes, shook her head slowly, and re-opened her eyes to continue the story as well as to gauge Madeira's reaction. "He collected many rocks that were nothing special. As children you attach meaning to meaningless things. However, in his collection, there was one large rock. He kept that one for years and years. None of us understood why. It was so plain, but then..."

Ennisa pulled back a little, and widened her eyes slightly. "He dropped it, and inside there was this gorgeous jewel. It seemed almost pristine. Perhaps you might know something about it, if you were to see it, with your powers? There was certainly something otherworldly about it."

She took a sip of the rich red wine, briefly savoured the flavour, and continued, "So, Madeira, we're celebrating because my brother has found a buyer who's willing to part with a lot of kina to acquire it. But I'm mourning because my brother is ill, and cannot afford the price of the journey to transport it to the buyer. He's bound to make a good amount of kina... from a jewel he cannot sell."

Ennisa shrugged, and looked in Madeira's direction with an expression full of curiosity. There were some truths in her story, but so much of it was a lie. It all depended on how knowledgeable Madeira was in those subjects, and Ennisa felt confident enough that mages weren't often concerned with earthly things like stones. Were they?

Madeira sipped her sweet wine as Ennisa ran full tilt into her story. There was an almost manic energy about her that was eeking out the longer they talked. She was animated, lively, with a storytelling flair that had her leaning into the candle light and pausing for dramatic effect. But there was something empty at the bottom of all her words that she couldn't quite cover up. Madeira's brow furrowed as she listened, but she couldn't quite pick up what was wrong with this.

Mentally skimming off the layer of storytelling wrapped around it, the facts were that an unearthly jewel fell out of a broken stone. Her brother meant to sell it for a hefty price, but was too feeble to make the journey.

It certainly did catch Madeira's interest. The last unearthy stone she came across turned out to be the God Leth power bombing her into a lesson about life by ensuring she could never die. And there were certainly weirder ways to obtain precious jewels. Jomi's chicken shat diamonds every other week, for gods sake. But it was the way Sky paused after the story was over, watching her with open curiosity for her reaction, that had her creeping feeling of doubt solidified into certainty.

Gods dammit, this woman was trying to sell her something. She hid her sigh behind a sip of her wine.

She really must have looked like the perfect customer, being fairly wealthy and wearing half a dozen garish jewels already. Sky was just softening her up with a story first before moving in to the hard sell. Sympathy was murder in negotiation. But Madeira had danced this dance a thousand times and with much better partners.

"I'm sorry about your brother. That's quite the stroke of bad luck", she frowned contemplatively into her wine glass, studying the deep red colour as she swished it around. "You know, maybe I can help. Your brother wouldn't need to travel all that way if he found a buyer in Lhavit, right?", she finally looked up and gave Sky a big, enthusiastic smile. "Perhaps I could see it? Maybe my 'powers' could tell you something about it."

Petch. She froze. Of course Madeira would want to look at the jewel. The imaginary, make-believe jewel. Ennisa smiled goofily. "Aah, it's not here with me at the moment. You understand, I wouldn't want it to be stolen." She stopped. "I can describe it for you, though."

"The stone is this big," she brought her hand up in front of her, and gestured a size using her thumb and forefinger pinched together. "It's quite uneven, speckled with flecks of ruby, and it seems to reflect light like glass. It's very beautiful. Possibly magical, somehow. It certainly feels mysterious to hold it." She smiled reassuringly, but she could feel her grasp of the story slipping away. "Aah, so... Yes. We tried a few buyers in Lhavit, but no-one would give a fair price. This man in Riverfall heard about it when we were asking around and sent a representative to look at it. I, we, can't refuse his offer, sorry."

She soldiered on. "We're going to get one thousand kina from this. I'm stuck in a bit of a quandary. If I can get a few kina from somewhere, I can pay for the travel and get the much bigger reward back, but it's just getting that first few kina together that's causing me a bit of a headache." She left that dangling, carrot-like, for Madeira to grab.

However, she was beginning to feel a little disappointed. The woman didn't look as gullible as she would have hoped. Perhaps it was a bit too much to ask, to find a person who would be ready and willing to give a stranger some kina with only the barest hints of getting anything back. She could but hope. Ennisa would be mortified to realise just who she was talking to, but she didn't know, and that meant she would attempt to wheedle some coin from the lady, as best she could.

She figured the elegant woman would need a bit of a sweetener, if she was to even consider striking up a bargain. Ennisa took a sip of the wine, and licked her lips to rid herself of the burgundy stain. How would she be convinced? Ennisa casually rested her chin on her knuckles. "Perhaps, if you were to pool some of your kina with mine, I could travel to Riverfall, collect the kina from the jewel sale, and return here? Me and Seth would be happy to split some of the earnings with you. Perhaps an equal third would do it. What would that be, six hundred kina? A little bit more than that? How does that sound to you?"

oocLooking forward to getting rekd ;)

Sky didn't have the stone on her, of course! But she would describe it for her. the woman then launched into a description that ended with only her assurance that the stone felt mysterious, despite all but admitting to having no magical knowledge to base it off of.

A twitch of irritation winged across Madeira's face. How dumb did this woman think she was? Slowly her exhaustion, her severe irritation at being stood up, and now the disappointment that this promising stranger was proving to be, was all starting to brew together in the cool headed Avalad, and she found she was angry. Angry at Jomi, at Yantavi, and at this Sky and at the steep fall her life had taken. She was done with her idea to trying and weasel anything out of this woman. She wanted to go home, she wanted to sleep.

Madeira put down her wine glass. No longer finding the energy within herself to keep up that big, enthusiastic smile, she felt it fade from her face.

"It takes a hundred and fifty days and more than fifteen hundred kina to get from Riverfall to Lhavit, one way", she began, her voice even and measured and cold enough to cut easily through the sound of the bustling tavern. "If you want to eat on that trip that's another hundred kina. That's quite the undertaking you have there. But that's okay, because you have a generous thousand kina lined up on the other side, don't you?"

Madeira's anger was a cold thing. Her voice didn't raise but lowered, her blue eyes flashed icily and some dark mood seemed to rise from her stiff shoulders like encroaching thunderclouds. Now that the facts were laid bare for herself as well as Sky she was mad at herself for even entertaining herself with the idea that this woman was ever genuine.

"And isn't it lucky that you, this random not-rich-but-not-poor teenager, who has never left Lhavit, managed to get the attention of a magic item collector on the other side of the world. That must of been a very convincing letter you sent to... who, exactly? Did you address the letters to Mister Wealthy Collector and hope for the best?"

She drained the last of her wine, poured more from the dusty bottle, and drained that too. Blue kisses ringed the wineglass.

"You're a good story teller, but you don't think these things through, do you? What were you going to do afterwards, when I came to collect?" She squinted at her through the dull haze of wine. "You don't even know what a spiritist is, do you?"

She sunk a tooth into the fleshy part of her lip, and spit a drop of blood onto the table between them. The summoning star was a mere suggestion of a scribble before her hand slammed down over top of it, but that was all she needed these days to summon the lesser of her two servants.

Emma's shroud was much more defined in the low dusky light of the Tavern than it ever was in daylight. She shivered into existence: a small, plump girl, barefoot in her nightdress, covered in ghastly weeping sores that cracked and bled as she smiled at the sight of her master. The closest patrons jumped in alarm at the sudden ghostly apparition, and even those deep into their cups on the other side of the bar shivered as the ambient temperature sharply dropped.

"Hi Maddy!"

"Emma, this is my new friend, Sky" Madeira introduced her without looking away from Sky's blue eyes. "She likes to play games with me, so we're going to make up a new one. We're going to see how long you can keep her awake. I'll give you and Raj an ounce of soulmist for every day she doesn't sleep."

The little ghost, deaf to the low, dangerous tone of her master's voice, nodded eagerly. That was an easy task, and soulmist was all the incentive she needed. "Okay! Like, right now?"

"Right now."

The ghost sat right there on the floor without another word, staring up into Sky's face with eager anticipation, ready to touch her or start screaming the second her eyelids started to droop.

"Ghost's themselves don't sleep, did you know that?" Madeira finally broke eye contact, gathering herself to leave. "She'll follow you forever if I tell her to. So, when you decide this game is over, why don't you find me again, and spin me a better story. Maybe then you'll find me a little more generous."

Madeira blew the ghost a blue stained kiss and made to leave, her back straight and high and her eyes sparking cruelly. How dare she try and make a fool out of her.

Ennisa's confidence drained as fast as Madeira's fake smile. Her face, flushed from the alcohol and the pleasant warmth of the tavern, lost most of its colour as she clenched her knuckles under the table at the sudden onslaught. She bit her tongue as she listened to stop herself from butting in and objecting. It would be pointless to object; that would only serve to provoke the sleeping bear that was Madeira.

She listened with an air of horrified detachment as the woman completely shredded her story. The irritation at herself for even thinking that pitiful tale would pass muster made her angry as well, but she was smart enough to recognise she was dealing with someone who was much more powerful than herself.

"I..." She started, her voice brittle, but stopped almost as soon as she'd parted her lips. As Madeira unpicked each aspect of the lie, she curled her fists tighter. Madeira's cool anger washed over her, but Ennisa was not apologetic. She would not apologise, no matter what the woman said or did. She was far too frustrated and annoyed at herself to admit that she was in the wrong. Instead, she shook her head at the (true) insinuations, as if trying to shake away the barbed words.

Except... "What are you..-" ... doing? She stared, goggle-eyed, as Madeira bit her own thumb. Ennisa watched as a droplet of blood welled there, and wondered if perhaps she had accidentally chosen to spend her evening talking to a mad-woman. That would be typical, of course. Abso-petching-lutely typical. She recoiled as the woman smacked her hand down on the table, and then actually yelped as a horrific figure materialised out of the air.

The girl that appeared looked awful, all things considered. Even if she wasn't faintly see-through, the sores and loosely hanging nightdress painted a terrible image in Ennisa's mind. What the petch had happened to her? Several other patrons also shot worried and apprehensive looks at the table they were sat at. Lhavit was a city where all sorts of things could happen, but the woman couldn't ever remember a time when a ghost of all things cropped up at a bar. Ennisa would have got up and walked away out of fear of what could happen, but stubbornness kept her seated, and adrenaline glued her in place. Instead, she listened as the ghost and her master started chatting. Apparently, they knew each other. She stared from ghost to master and back again. The little girl, who smiled disarmingly brightly, listened with an intent expression as Madeira instructed her.

We're going to see how long you can keep her awake." Ennisa started, and then couldn't help opening her big, fat mouth. "Hey. Hey!" She stood as Madeira did, and consternation leant a panicked expression to her face. The words, 'that's not fair!' almost slipped from her mouth, but she gulped them down before she could make that particular error. She had already turned herself into a fool in front of all these people, and this infuriatingly terrifying woman, so she wouldn't be stupid.

Instead, she let Madeira walk away, her mind working furiously, trying to figure out a way to dig herself out of this mess. The little ghost girl, Emma, sat on the floor at Ennisa's feet, but she couldn't process the presence of her new accompaniment yet. Before the woman could leave the establishment, she suddenly realised. Her voice quaked embarrassingly when she called after the woman. "Madeira! I don't know who you are! How the petch am I supposed to find you?"

Yet the woman either didn't hear, or didn't deign to answer. Ennisa was left standing there, utterly mortified, alone except for Emma. Her mind was blank for a tick or two as she tried to process what had just happened. How had it gone so badly wrong? She took a couple of steps forwards in the direction of the Spiritist, but faltered as she realised Emma was faithfully following her. She looked at the ghost girl, who looked back with a neutral expression of an innocent child. An innocent dead child.

Petch.

She left the bar. With no idea what to do next, and attempting to block out the ghost that followed her, she began walking without an aim. It would be several bells before she returned back home, and a few more bells more when she finally realised exactly the curse Madeira had placed upon her. In the dead of night, with the concentrated company of the dead girl, Ennisa vowed to herself that she would find this Madeira. She would find her, and this time, she would resolve the bad blood. One way or another.
