[Wind Reach] Development Discussion

Secret :
I could use this a good brainstorming place. The Djed storms produced a long tailed, tree climbing mix of feline and lupine and other. Venomous saliva, sharp teeth, retractable claws, 3 foot long prehensile tail and strong jumping prowess.
Musk Ferox
So for a tooth and face reference here: Image

And a full body reference

The prehensile tail is one and a half times the length of its body and used aid in climbing trees and steep mountain sides. They like to take their kill to a higher level to eat it, be it in trees or rocks on mountain sides.

There are 2 reasons they choose higher places. As ambush predators, they will purposely use the same spot to eat. This drops bits and pieces of their prey--covered in poisonous saliva. Should there be ANY skin contact or mucus membranes touching it like an bird sniffing it, it will die of venom induced seizures in under an hour. But only for the Avian species, natural or Kelvic. It's not poisonous to anyone else.

The second reason is to to keep that musk at 7 feet and under so as it can catch birds unawares with their musk undetectable to flying birds. Ground Owls and other lower level birds are at the highest risk.

The true hidden danger lies within its safety to mammals. Should an Inarta unknowingly walk through tall grass, they can spread that venom onto their boots and track it into anywhere in Inarta.

It has 42 canine styled teeth, much like the wolf family. However it's retractable claws and sinewy body type are distinctly feline. Furthermore, the prehensile tail might seem almost primate in its use and length. There are 2 strong smelling musk glands under the tail that carry along the ground easily. While this makes it easier for mammals and ground dwellers to avoid it, it's hard to detect above 7 feet from the ground.

The only known natural predator that can take it down is a Grey banded Vecerem. If you're lucky enough to kill one, a single ground up claw is the only known antivenom for Mountain Musk poison. And be swift because it has to be used on the bird within an hour of contact. Apply externally and internally.
Name: Musk Ferox
Location:
Appearance: A Djed creation of Canid, Feline and Mustelid
Description:
Behavior:
Purpose: First purpose is their musk glands give a natural protection from any other Ferox poison when rubbed on boots, furs and clothing---and bird feathers. A concoction of the 2 glands can be rubbed on your bird for protection for up to a year's protection. **not finished but I need to look up more things.

I'm gonna put this in the fridge til I learn a bit more first

Oooh, a predator that is especially dangerous for birds? That's going to be interesting for our hunters. Especially something produced by djed storms. I'm excited to see what it turns into.

Herpy Friends

I decided to work on some herps (reptiles and amphibians) for Wind Reach, so they're going here until I can flesh them out a little more and get feedback.

Kalean Rockhopper
Image

A small species of frog found in the lower altitudes, the Kalean Rockhopper is often seen on hunts and a frequent snack of the smaller birds of prey. It feeds on insects. Its coloration provides easy camoflauge among the rocks, and is known for its vibrant blue eyes. It is an old folk legend that a pregnant woman who eats a set of Rockhopper eyes will grant her children the same blue eyes. It typically grows no larger than a fingernail, but rumors have it that one valley in particular houses Rockhoppers that can reach the size of small dogs. Their calls are shrill squeals that often resemble a baby's cry.

Name: Kalean Rockhopper
Type: Amphibian
Location: Valleys
Frequency: Uncommon
Appearance: Gray-brown thin frog with deep blue eyes of varying shades.
Purposes: Edible but not worth catching for food due to size.
Dangers: Very safe.

Skyinarta Tunnel Toad
Image

The Skyinarta Tunnel Toad is most often found within the caves of Wind Reach. It gives off a faint glow that increases when threatened. This glow is produced by glands in the skin that release the toxic substance. It feeds on anything that can fit into its mouth and is known to grow to the size of a person's hand. It produces a deep grumbling "whoop" when calling.

Name: Skyinartan Tunnel Toad
Type: Amphibian
Location: Caves, particularly Wind Reach
Frequency: Common
Appearance: Fat, pale toad with a faint purple glow that intensifies when threatened.
Purposes: The toxic glowing substance can be used as a paint or dye, but care must be taken to avoid being poisoned.
Dangers: The toxin released causes painful cramps and headache, but only through injestion.

Golden Glider
Image

Golden Gliders make their home in the mountains and trees, posessing a unique ability to fly through the air for short periods of time. Its calls sound similar to a loud tapping.

Name: Golden Glider
Type: Amphibian
Location: Forests, Low-to-Mid Altitudes
Frequency: Common
Appearance: Long limbs with large, webbed feet for gliding.
Purposes: None
Dangers: Safe

Kalean Fire Lizard
Image

These lizards are found only in the warmest reaches of Kalea, especially in Mount Skyinarta. They can often be found running along walls or dozing near heat vents. Identifieable by their bright red backs that indicate air quality, a useful feature for workers building tunnels.

Name: Kalean Fire Lizard
Type: Reptile
Location: Volcanic Caves
Frequency: Common
Appearance: Light brown with a red back. More vibrant red = better air quality.
Purposes: Indicator for air quality, useful for those building Wind Reach's caverns and tunnels.
Dangers: Not dangerous, but not reccomended for consuption for their backs hold a neurotoxin when consumed. If prepared correctly, however, they are said to taste incredible.
