1st of Winter 520

Lyra awoke with the rising sun, gingerly stretching in her bed as Syna’s first rays warmed her face. Normally she’d enjoy slowly coming to and getting motivated, but not today. Today was different. Today was special. Today, Lyra was purchasing a home of her very own. No more rent due. No more limited leeway to make her space her own. No more shared housing. She would be a homeowner, free to decorate and furnish and personalize as she pleased, whenever she pleased. The painter could barely contain herself as she got out of bed, making her way to her desk.

There she brushed her hair and tied it back, slipping then into the clothes she’d set out the night before. Once dressed, Lyra packed away her toiletries with the rest of her belongings and picked up her backpack, newly emptied of its usual contents and replenished with the Kina needed to buy her house. Grateful for the upper body muscle obtained through her craft, Lyra hoisted her backpack over her shoulder and headed out. Before exiting the building, Lyra made sure to try and track down Hesper to inform him she’d be moving out today. However, being that it was currently Syna’s rule and Hesper was Lethborn, it was Shay she found instead.

Knowing Shay was more of a listener than a talker, Lyra simply let her know her plans for the day, trusting Shay would see her bondmate sooner than Lyra would and would let him know. Formalities at the Apartments out of the way, Lyra made her way outside to begin the trek to Sharai Peak. Out there nestled among the rolling hills were the Okomo Estates, quaint cottages that dotted the hillsides and offered space and the serenity of quiet nature to those who lived there. Lyra’d dreamed of owning one of those cottages since she was a little girl. The idea of having a place to truly call her own empowered her. The accomplishment and responsibility that came with that idea surged within her, filling some of her deepest voids.

Traveling from Zintia to Sharai Peak took some time, but Lyra was too excited to really take notice, her eagerness to arrive overshadowing any other thought or emotion she could possibly have as the Estates soon came into view. The Okomo laden fields around the homes glistened beneath Syna’s light, the spaciousness enveloping the artist as she made her way down the path towards Milla’s office. Finding the building wasn’t all that difficult, its location well placed at the forefront of the other home clusters. Arriving at the door, Lyra knocked before entering at the invitation called out to her.

Milla sat opposite the room behind her desk, reviewing what Lyra could only guess were deeds and other maintenance requests when she approached. Once close enough, the woman looked up to greet her, momentarily sizing her up and smiling before she spoke.

“Good morning ma’am. Is there something I can help you with?”

Returning her smile, Lyra replied. “Yes ma’am. I’m here to purchase an Estate.”

Eyes sparkling with excitement, Milla set aside what she was working on to give Lyra her full attention.

“That is absolutely wonderful! My name is Milla. Would you be interested in a basic starter home, or something with more additions and upgrades?”

Giving it a moment’s thought, Lyra answered her question. “Just a starter home for now would be perfect. I have the payment right here. And I’m Lyra.”

Lyra removed her backpack and set it on the desk in front of Milla. After a quick inspection to make sure it was all there, Milla set it inside her desk.

Taking out a new paper from her desk, Milla presented it to Lyra. “This is the deed to your new home Lyra. Just mark the bottom there, and then I’ll do the same, and you’ll be all set.”

Following her instructions, Lyra did as she was told. “Alright then. Just follow the path around the bend, and your home will be on your right.”

Carefully clutching her deed in hand, Lyra beamed at Milla. “Thank you so much! Have a wonderful day!” Turning to leave the office, Lyra headed down the path as she was told to go see her new home.

It felt like no time at all had passed when Lyra’s home came into view. She’d practically floated her way there, spirts soaring as high as Syna in the sky. The house was reasonably well kept in hopes of impressing a buyer, but Lyra made a mental note to clean it up even further. It may seem odd to anyone else to be so utterly thrilled with making herself a chore list, but Lyra was excited nonetheless. To see a dream realized, the feeling was unlike any other. Such a deep rooted and pure sense of joy that made the artist feel like she could do anything. Made even the most trivial or menial tasks something to look forward to. The garden sat empty and waiting, a blank slate ripe for planting. Lyra hadn’t yet decided if she was going to plant crops or flowers, but she’d been leaning towards flowers. A different kind of way to ‘paint’ the space. Striding past the garden, Lyra approached the door of her residence. Her hand rested upon the handle for a moment, eyes closed and breathing steady, just savoring the feel and basking in the moment. When she was ready, Lyra opened the door and stepped inside her home.

Opening her eyes, Lyra took her time surveying the space inside. It was quaint and bare, and would perhaps even seem ragged to some. But not to Lyra. She saw the beauty in all things, the gift of an artist’s perspective, and so to her, this home was not basic or ragged at all. She didn’t see the empty space, the dusty corners, or the plain furnishings. She saw the blank canvas she would use to create her finest masterpiece yet. She saw the potential it held, the home she would make it. She saw a safe space one day filled with love and light. She saw herself raising a family there, the walls echoing with the sound of little footsteps and laughter. And in the meantime, she saw a place she could devote her natural creativity to. She could paint and decorate the walls and floors, upgrade to more lavish furnishings, and expand the house and property to her heart’s desire. She was already so in love with it and she hadn’t even moved in yet.

With that thought in mind, Lyra tore herself away from her home and began the trip back to her apartment. It wouldn’t take long to pack her things and move them to her new residence for she currently didn’t own much. She never saw much of a point in acquiring possessions when she still lived in rented housing. Now that she owned her own house though, that would quickly change. Several chimes later, Lyra entered her apartment for the last time. Just moments later she was packed and ready to leave, stopping in the doorway to look around the room one last time. She’d enjoyed living in Solar Wind Apartments, for the proximity to her job at the Studio was more than ideal, but it was time to move on into a new chapter of her life, even if that meant a longer hike to work. Breathing a steady sigh of contentment, Lyra closed the apartment door and went home.
