The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. 3rd of Winter 520

It was a pleasant evening, Syna graciously bidding her farewell and welcoming Leth to rule the night. The sky was particularly unique and beautiful during their transition, one side vibrantly streaked with a multitude of colors while the other ushered in dark hues and glittering white stars. ‘Would make a stunning painting’, Lyra thought to herself as she walked along the path before her, empty backpack slung over one shoulder. Making a mental note to bring such an idea to fruition, the thought left her mind as easily as it had entered. She was on a mission of sorts and now was not the time for distractions. In keeping with her recent theme of newness and accomplishment, Lyra was on her way to Surya Plaza to go to Piramba’s Pet Shop.

Now that she was in her forever home, Lyra felt she was ready for a pet. Apartment living near the Plaza had meant she’d regularly interact with others in her daily dealings. It did its part to fill her social void to a tolerable level, even if she was aware that was as sad as it sounded. However, being in a permanent space, coupled with that space being a bit further removed from society on Sharai Peak, Lyra’s social void was about to grow. To combat this, she would get herself a companion.

The journey from Sharai to Zintia was refreshing, a gentle breeze tousling Lyra’s hair as she crossed the necessary bridges from peak to peak. The light danced around her and then began fading as the sky continued to shift above her. Her footsteps echoed in her ears as she lost herself in thought. ‘I know I want a pet, but what kind of pet do I want?’ ‘Do I want a house pet or a yard pet?’ ‘Something I don’t have to do much with, or something that really needs my focus and care?’ These were just some of the thoughts coursing through her mind when the Surya Plaza came into view.

Spotting the pet shop was instantaneous for it stood out against the other buildings in the Plaza. The two-story structure, complete with kennels, aviary, and cattery was unlike any other shop in the area. Throat knotting with nervousness and excitement, Lyra approached and entered the shop. Once inside, the cacophony of barks, birdsong, and meows was more music to the artist’s ears than it was alarming. A smile spread across Lyra’s face as she took it all in, attention snapping back to the present when she was greeted by a young woman.

“Welcome to my shop. Looking for supplies or to find your forever friend?”

All but squeaking with delight, Lyra returned her greeting. “Looking for a companion. I’m Lyra. I just purchased a home and it’s just me living there, so I’m looking for a best friend essentially. My house is in Okomo Estates. I don’t yet have any fencing on the property, so I’m definitely looking for an indoor animal. Something relatively low maintenance until I’m used to owning and caring for both a home and a pet.”

The woman listened intently while Lyra explained what she was looking for, gently nodding her head as she formulated a plan to help her customer.

“Nice to meet you, Lyra. I’m Fai. Based on what you’ve told me, I highly recommend a cat. I’ll take you to the cattery and leave you be in there to see who you like.”

Gesturing to follow her, Fai turned and left the room, Lyra hot on her heels. Outside of the main entrance area, the various animal noises grew louder while the women walked. They passed the kennel first, Fai making a brief commentary introduction before they moved on. The cattery was next, Fai nodding further down the corridor at the aviary.

“Aviary is that way. Generally folks want dogs or cats before they want birds, but I have many types of animals here for adoption. Go ahead and peruse the cattery, spend some time checking out the different cats and see who catches your eye. Something that I find helpful... See who catches your eye, but more importantly, see who’s eye you catch. The best fit animals choose their owners more so than the other way around. If you want a true companion, choose the animal that chooses you. The one that wants to spend time with you and is interested in you will be a far truer pal for you than one you choose otherwise. Let me know if you need anything.”

With that, Fai went back to the main area and Lyra entered the cattery.

[Piramba's Pet Shop] Companion in a Cattery

Postby Lyra Nix on December 27th, 2020, 9:50 pm

Inside, Lyra found it was almost like stepping into another world. The cattery was a large area with perches and cages and various food and water bowls. A small collection of cats roamed the room, some on the perches, others snoozing in cages, and still others eating. Several perked their heads up when Lyra entered the room, their attention immediately returning to whatever they were doing when they sensed no danger.

There were a few chairs sporadically placed in the room, and Lyra wandered over to one of them and took a seat, placing her backpack beside her on the floor. She knew she had much to learn about animals still, but she did know that you don’t just approach a strange animal like you’re old friends. The cats needed to adjust to her presence, check her out, and go from there. So she patiently sat, waiting a few chimes while several of the cats came over to smell her and get a feel for her. When she felt it was time, she stood from her chair and started making her way around the room to see who would be her new friend.

First she approached the collection of perches in the room. This area had three cats lounging on them, Lyra holding her hand out for them to smell before trying to pet any of them. They all took turns sniffing her fingers, and then all just laid there while she stroked their fur. It amazed her at just how soft their fur was, and Lyra found herself being drawn into the act of petting them. Almost absentmindedly she pet them each in turn, cycling back to the first when she was through with the third. She kept this up for several chimes before bringing herself to stop. They seemed to welcome the attention she gave, but they didn’t seem too keen on returning that attention. None of these cats would be her companion.

Moving on to the next area where the cages were, Lyra found several cats snoozing away on cozy blankets. She made gentle kissing noises, seeing if any were interested in waking up and getting to know her. One lifted its head and blinked at her with sleepy eyes for a moment, but ultimately laid back down to go back to sleep. The others were too invested in their slumber to bother with Lyra.

Admitting defeat in yet another area, Lyra left them alone and moved onto the feeding area. Here the cats were much awake and lively, meowing and grunting when she approached them. Folding her legs beneath her, Lyra sat down among them, both hands outstretched to pet the cats around her. Most kept their noses in their bowls, but would lean or turn their bodies to be able to be petted while they ate. A more promising welcome, Lyra’s hopes perked up that amongst these feeding felines, she would find her new companion.

Not knowing if they understood her or not, Lyra spoke to them anyway, saying hello and telling them how pretty they are. Almost every one of them were purring, a sound Lyra had no idea she loved until that very moment. One cat in particular took an interest in her, excitedly coming over and rubbing its body up against her before returning to its bowl for another bite of food. The cat repeated this process over and over again, Lyra giggling every time it predictably returned for more attention.

“You like the attention huh, pretty kitty? Gotta have that food too though, haha. I like that. I’m like that too.”

Finally finishing its bowl, the cat returned to Lyra, though instead of just rubbing against her this time, it climbed up into her lap and sat down, looking at Lyra face to face. It had the most beautiful blue eyes Lyra had ever seen and soft curly long hair.

“Well hello there beauty,” Lyra said, both hands stroking the cats sides. As if in greeting, the cat moved closer to Lyra, gently touching its nose to Lyra’s and giving her a little lick.

“Aww, I like you too. Would you like to come home with me and be my friend?” Purring loudly now, the cat nuzzled Lyra once more before curling up in her lap and laying down.

“I’ll take that as a yes then. You have to let me up though so I can take care of business and take you home.”

Gently lifting the cat off her lap, Lyra set it down beside her, scratching its head as she stood up. “I’ll be right back.”

Snatching up her backpack, Lyra left the cattery, heading back out to the main area to find Fai. The woman looked up as Lyra approached, eyes twinkling with the hope that she found someone to adopt.

“I found my companion. The curly haired one with the blue eyes.”

Face expressing recognition, Fai smiled warmly at Lyra. “I know the one. She’s a very sweet girl. She’s a Laperm cat. You’ll have to keep up with her coat so it doesn’t get matted, but she’s otherwise a very easy keeper. She’s very affectionate and loving. She’s a perfect fit for what you’ve described you want in a pet. I’m so glad she took a liking to you. It’ll be fifteen Kina to adopt her. Would you like any other supplies while you’re here?”

Thinking for a moment, Lyra replied. “Yes, I’d like a grooming kit, a small cage, and a perch as well please.”

Gathering the items for her, Fai calculated her total. “Thirty-five Kina please.”

Lyra promptly paid the woman, tucked the grooming kit into her backpack, and set it on the perch. Then she picked up the cage and went back to the cattery to collect her new companion.

[Piramba's Pet Shop] Companion in a Cattery

Postby Lyra Nix on December 30th, 2020, 3:56 pm

Reentering the room with the cage, Lyra was greeted by the meowing of her new companion. A warm smile spreading across her face, Lyra gingerly set down the cage, kneeling and calling to her cat.

“Come on girl. Time to go home,” she said as she patted her lap. Happily trotting over to her, the feline climbed into Lyra’s lap and began purring. “See girl? I told you I'd be right back.”

Grabbing her cage, Lyra gently placed the cat inside and closed the door. Standing up, Lyra carefully lifted the cage so she could peer inside.

“Now you just sit tight in there while I hike us home. I promise I'll be careful with you.”

The cat secured, Lyra left the cattery, making sure not to let anyone else out on her way through the door.

Making her way back to the main entrance, Lyra triumphantly held up the cage for Fai to see.

“All tucked in and ready to go.”

Placing the cage on the nearby counter for Fai to say her goodbyes, Lyra put on her backpack and scooped the perch up under one arm. Once she felt it was securely in place, she picked up the cage with her free hand and started towards the door. Fai opened it for her, waving to them both as they left.

“Take good care of her! And congratulations Lyra. I'll be here if you need anything.”

Smiling at her over her shoulder, Lyra replied. “I will, I promise! Thank you again Fai!” And with that said, Lyra began the walk home.

It was darker outside now, the last of Syna’s rays beginning to fade and dip behind the horizon. She’d been in the shop longer than she’d realized, grateful that growing up in this city meant she knew her way around regardless whether it was night or day. Lyra took her time walking home, not rushing but not lollygagging either. She wanted to be as gentle with her cat as possible, and the leisurely pace allowed for brief times of rest and to readjust her grip on everything as often as she needed to. It wasn't that her items were particularly heavy, but carrying them together was a bit awkward so it strained her body in ways it wasn't used to. She’d definitely be sore for a few days, but it would definitely be worth it. Lyra list track of the chimes that passed on her journey, but eventually her home was in sight. Setting the perch down outside the door, Lyra entered the house.

Placing the cage on the table for a moment, Lyra tossed her backpack into the corner before going over to the hearth and lighting a fire, illuminating the interior of the house. With warm light to see, Lyra approached the cage and opened the door. Leaving it open, Lyra took a seat in the chair nearby and waited for her cat to come out. It didn’t take long, excitement and intrigue drawing the feline out to explore. Lyra sat in curious silence, watching the cat make its way around the house, smelling this and that and getting a feel for the house.

“This is your new home sweet girl. It's just you and me, for now. What do you think?” As if on cue, the cat walked over to Lyra and began running against her legs, winding in and out between her feet.

Reaching down and picking her up, Lyra placed the cat in her lap and studied her a moment. “I guess I need to name you huh? Can’t just call you ‘girl' all the time. But what do I call you?”

Pausing, Lyra watched her cat, focusing on picking a name.

“Smokey? Nah, too obvious. Ashley? Cute play on words but doesn’t feel right. Might be the right direction though. What other words can I play with? You’ve got some adorable sections of grey in your coat… maybe I can use that somehow. Come on Lyra, think.”

Pausing and concentrating, a few chimes went by in silence before Lyra startled them both with an outburst. “I’ve got it! Graycie! I’ll call you Graycie. What do you think?” Reaching up to nuzzle her face, Gracie purred against her. “Its perfect. Welcome home Graycie.”

Sliding her off her lap, Lyra went and retrieved the perch from outside. Placing it haphazardly in the corner for now, Lyra changed her clothes and readied herself for bed. When she was ready, Lyra snuffed the fire most of the way out, leaving just a few glowing embers to slowly burn out. Climbing into bed, Lyra found a comfortable position on her side and then called Graycie to her.

“Come on Graycie. Time for bed.”

Trotting over, Graycie jumped up on the bed, laying down in front of Lyra’s stomach and curling into a sweet fluffy ball of softness she could cuddle. One hand absent mindedly stroking Graycie's fur, both owner and pet drifted off to sleep together.
