3rd of Winter 520
It was a pleasant evening, Syna graciously bidding her farewell and welcoming Leth to rule the night. The sky was particularly unique and beautiful during their transition, one side vibrantly streaked with a multitude of colors while the other ushered in dark hues and glittering white stars. ‘Would make a stunning painting’, Lyra thought to herself as she walked along the path before her, empty backpack slung over one shoulder. Making a mental note to bring such an idea to fruition, the thought left her mind as easily as it had entered. She was on a mission of sorts and now was not the time for distractions. In keeping with her recent theme of newness and accomplishment, Lyra was on her way to Surya Plaza to go to Piramba’s Pet Shop.
Now that she was in her forever home, Lyra felt she was ready for a pet. Apartment living near the Plaza had meant she’d regularly interact with others in her daily dealings. It did its part to fill her social void to a tolerable level, even if she was aware that was as sad as it sounded. However, being in a permanent space, coupled with that space being a bit further removed from society on Sharai Peak, Lyra’s social void was about to grow. To combat this, she would get herself a companion.
The journey from Sharai to Zintia was refreshing, a gentle breeze tousling Lyra’s hair as she crossed the necessary bridges from peak to peak. The light danced around her and then began fading as the sky continued to shift above her. Her footsteps echoed in her ears as she lost herself in thought. ‘I know I want a pet, but what kind of pet do I want?’ ‘Do I want a house pet or a yard pet?’ ‘Something I don’t have to do much with, or something that really needs my focus and care?’ These were just some of the thoughts coursing through her mind when the Surya Plaza came into view.
Spotting the pet shop was instantaneous for it stood out against the other buildings in the Plaza. The two-story structure, complete with kennels, aviary, and cattery was unlike any other shop in the area. Throat knotting with nervousness and excitement, Lyra approached and entered the shop. Once inside, the cacophony of barks, birdsong, and meows was more music to the artist’s ears than it was alarming. A smile spread across Lyra’s face as she took it all in, attention snapping back to the present when she was greeted by a young woman.
“Welcome to my shop. Looking for supplies or to find your forever friend?”
All but squeaking with delight, Lyra returned her greeting. “Looking for a companion. I’m Lyra. I just purchased a home and it’s just me living there, so I’m looking for a best friend essentially. My house is in Okomo Estates. I don’t yet have any fencing on the property, so I’m definitely looking for an indoor animal. Something relatively low maintenance until I’m used to owning and caring for both a home and a pet.”
The woman listened intently while Lyra explained what she was looking for, gently nodding her head as she formulated a plan to help her customer.
“Nice to meet you, Lyra. I’m Fai. Based on what you’ve told me, I highly recommend a cat. I’ll take you to the cattery and leave you be in there to see who you like.”
Gesturing to follow her, Fai turned and left the room, Lyra hot on her heels. Outside of the main entrance area, the various animal noises grew louder while the women walked. They passed the kennel first, Fai making a brief commentary introduction before they moved on. The cattery was next, Fai nodding further down the corridor at the aviary.
“Aviary is that way. Generally folks want dogs or cats before they want birds, but I have many types of animals here for adoption. Go ahead and peruse the cattery, spend some time checking out the different cats and see who catches your eye. Something that I find helpful... See who catches your eye, but more importantly, see who’s eye you catch. The best fit animals choose their owners more so than the other way around. If you want a true companion, choose the animal that chooses you. The one that wants to spend time with you and is interested in you will be a far truer pal for you than one you choose otherwise. Let me know if you need anything.”
With that, Fai went back to the main area and Lyra entered the cattery.
