The Chapel The Chapel is a simple, but beautiful affair. It was originally built from the wreckage of the old Suvan outpost like the rest of the city, but like the Captain's Hall, it has had serious structural and cosmetic alterations and improvements since work on the Road brought more usable stone for masonry that needed to go somewhere. It can seat approximately one hundred worshipers at the time and is not the only chapel, but certainly the largest and most important, and invariably the chapel a Denvali would mean when referring to the Chapel. The Captain worships there, and the celebrants in charge of it are the influential Chaplains of Viratas and Aquiras. In reverence to the gods, the Chapel is surrounded by trimmed lawns, flower patches, and shade trees. It is considered both a civic as well as religious edifice, maintained for the spiritual practices of the Denvali citizens. NPCs: Haimon, Chaplain of Viratas; Zahari, Chaplain of Aquiras. Winter 1, 510 AV The Symenestra approached the chapel slowly, as he would any place of worship. Since it was rather cold on the surface, at this time of the season, he was garbed in a fur lined hooded cloak, and his feet were encased in soft leather boots. Any kind of shoes tended to be a hindrance when climbing, and thus he usually forewent them entirely when he was in native Kalinor, but here they seemed to be a necessity. Besides, dressing like a human, trying to adjust to their culture a little, would make the people of this insolated settlement more inclined to trust him and ignore the dark – and entirely justified - stories that might or might not have spread to Denval. From one of the traders that regularly visited Kalinor he‘d heard that they valued Viratas greatly here, and it had peaked his curiosity. It was unusual for anybody besides the Symenestra themselves to put such an emphasis on the worship of this particular deity. Since he had first found out about Denval, he had wondered how his god was worshipped here and how much the Denvali worship differed from the way they paid respects to the god of blood in Kalinor. He quietly opened the door and slipped inside, taking a look around. He’d thought that the chapel would be much smaller, but there seemed to be enough room for at least one hundred worshippers. Buildings made of stone, with doors on ground level, still seemed a little strange to the Symenestra, even though he had made a couple of trips to the surface in recent years. Kalinor was a veritable work of art in comparison, but he did not show what he thought of human architecture. Instead he simply sat down to pray. He only looked up occasionally to see if somebody, either a worshipper or a priest, had entered the chapel, somebody that he’d be able to talk to.
