Defending Yourself (Aello)

Season of Spring, Day 28, 511 AV

Alenias was filed with guilt. Aello was doing so nice to take care of her, and when bad stuff happened Alenias had barely been able to help! The dog in the forest and the smelly men in the Silver Sliver had all caused such problems for Aello, and Alenias wanted to help more.

Finally Alenias couldn't stand any more, and she turned to Aello as they walked through a particularly dark and empty alley in Ravok, "Aello, please teach me to fight! Please! I wanna be able to help you when more bad stuff happens, and not just get hurt," she cast her eyes down to her bandaged arm, and then back up to Aello, "Please?"

She hoped Aello would say yes, because Alenias wanted to be strong like Aello. Then they wouldn't have to be afraid of anyone ever again!

Defending Yourself (Aello)

Postby Aello on April 21st, 2011, 5:42 pm

As soon as the Kelvic's words filled the young spiritist's ears, Aello stopped dead in her tracks. Chirp! Chirp! Was the Kelvic serious? After what had just happened a few days before with the wolf, with the current shape her arm was in? She wanted to train? Was Alenias mad? Aello wondered, as she simply stared at the girl. After a few seconds, the Kelvic's aura came into view. It was a pale yellow mist, that swirled around the girl. It hovered around her, like a thick yellow shroud, which caused Aello's sight of her to become slightly fuzzy. As Aello studied the aura, she realized that it also seemed to jump up from time to time, as tiny tendrils of yellow mist forced themselves around the girl's wrists. It was as though the tendrils were desperately trying to anchor the aura in place, and keep it from jumping, or perhaps floating, away.

Alenias is not kidding. She is eager, willing to learn. She wants to learn now, even with her injured arm. Aello sighed, she had a feeling that once the girl's heart was set on something, there would be no convincing it to sway. She really wants you to teach her. The aura seemed to be jumping up and down eagerly. The image of Alenias with her hands clasped together came to mind. She was pouting her lips, and her eyes were wide and watery. She was jumping up and down, and begging for Aello to teach her. Of course, the only thing Aello was fit to teach, or so she thought, was the bow. But Alenias could never learn such a thing with one good arm. But then again, even if the Kelvic's other arm was in good shape, the streets of Ravok was not the proper place for an archery lesson.

Aello sighed. Reluctantly, she replied, "sure, we can teach you. But are you absolutely certain you wish to risk re-injuring your arm?" There was a slight pause. "After all, you injured it recently... which could only mean that you are all the more likely to simply make everything worse. You don't want that, do you?" she inquired, hoping to convince the Kelvic to change her mind. She had a funny feeling it wouldn't happen though. But it was nice to hope, right? Chirp! Chirp! Yune's calls were what finally drew Aello's eyes away from Alenias. The thing that broke her concentration, and caused the pale yellow aura to fade away into thin air.

"Something wrong Yune?" Aello asked. Chirp! Chirp! "Or are you merely agreeing with one of us? Perhaps you think it unwise for her to learn now, as your mistress does. Or perhaps, you agree, she should learn something... just in case we are not around to offer our aid." Aello's right brow arched as she stared at the Kelvic. She expected her to translate. Of course, she knew there was a chance the girl would try to lie. But she'd know if Alenias tried. She had her magic, after all, as foolish as it was to use it as often as she did.

Aello's heart raced as she awaited an answer from Alenias, and she hadn't even done anything yet.

Defending Yourself (Aello)

Postby Alenias on April 21st, 2011, 7:39 pm

Alenias nodded eagerly at Aello's question, without a hint of fear at the thought of injuring herself, "I don't care if I get hurt Aello, as long as I can help your fight next time something bad happens," there was determination and fervent desire in her actions and words, "I just want to make sure you're safe."

"You shouldn't push yourself too hard dear," Yune chirped, "You'll make Aello upset."

Alenias bit her lip unhappily at Yune's words, not wanting to upset Aello. When Aello looked at her for translation she offered, "Yune says I shouldn't push myself to hard, and that you'd be upset if I did," Alenias' heart froze at the thought, "I don't wanna make you upset Aello. If you don't want me to learn how to fight I won't, but I wanna be strong like you so I can help against the bad things a people."

She was a little confused now what to do, but Alenias would do whatever Aello said. She was the one taking care of her after all.

Defending Yourself (Aello)

Postby Aello on April 21st, 2011, 9:31 pm

Aello sighed as the Kelvic's aura came back into view. It had changed a bit since she last looked. Now, the mist was a mixture of light blue, and a pale yellow. Eagerness and truth. The pale yellow seemed to cut through the blue mist like the rays of the sun. The yellow seemed to start around the girl's body, and then spark outwards, while the blue simply curled around it. In the empty spaces the yellow light left.

As Aello stared, her pupils dilated, and her heart beat grew even faster. After a moment, she turned away, breaking her concentration. The aura faded into the air, and the girl was left feeling somewhat tired. Her chest was beginning to rise and fall more heavily, and she was staring at the ground, to the left of her body. Her eyes made her seem both sad, and distant. The birds would more than likely think she was upset about something.

In truth, Aello was. She was surprised by the Kelvic's desire. Irritated by her inability to realize that if she tried to train now, she may simply make the situation worse. Alenias may simply continue to harm herself; learn nothing, and wind up doing the opposite of the girl's good intentions. After all, an injured person was useless in a fight.

After a few moments of silence, Aello walked over to the edge of the alley, and put her bow down. It was leaning up against the alley wall, when she pulled her bag off her shoulders and placed it next to it. As she walked back over to Alenias, she said, "you can't learn how to use the bow with one good arm, so perhaps, that can be taught to you at another time." There was a slight pause, "the same goes for any other two-handed weapon, which we don't have at our disposal right now anyway. That leaves your one-handed weapons, things such as the dagger or short sword. Of course, the blade isn't exactly something I am skilled with... so teaching you may not be the easiest thing to do." There was another slight pause, as Aello came to a halt in front of Alenias.

Aello's eyes were staring intently into Alenias' own. She was standing only a foot in front of her, as the words, "and although using my fists was never a strength either, it is not something you are likely to be without." Slowly, Aello raised each of her hands so that they were just below either side of her face. Her palms were held straight, towards Alenias. Her fingers were bunched together, a row of pale white that ascended and then descended again. "Use only your good arm," Aello instructed, "and if anything starts to hurt, even in the slightest, mention it and we will stop."

Chirp! Chirp! Yune was flapping her wings wildly, and digging her feet even farther into Aello's shoulder. A second later, she had flown off the young spiritist's shoulder, and over to her belongings. She had nestled into the top of her bag a moment later. Aello, however, didn't bother to watch her bird, she knew she wasn't about to go anywhere. Besides, Alenias was what was important right now. She would have to watch her intently, for any sign of pain. A wince... a groan...

"Now, ball your hand into a fist, and hit my hand as hard as you can. Start with the left, and then try for the right. Over and over until you build up your strength and your speed," Aello instructed. "And don't you worry about hurting anybody," Aello instructed, knowing it may be an issue for the Kelvic, "this is just practice."

Defending Yourself (Aello)

Postby Alenias on April 22nd, 2011, 12:54 am

Alenias waited anxiously to hear Aello's response, but Aello just looked at her for a moment, and then Aello turned and stared at the ground. Had Alenias upset her? She seemed upset. Alenias' face fell at that, and tears started to well in her eyes, "I'm sorry Aello, please don't be upset. I won't ask again, I promise."

Tears threatening to spill over Alenias watched in a bit of confusion as Aello walked over and set down her bow and pack. She was still watching Aello with confused, moist eyes as the woman started to talk and walk up to her. Only when Aello told her to only use her good arm did Alenias' face brighten, "Yes Aello!" she said brightly with a happy smile, "I promise!"

"Be careful,"
Yune chirped as she waved at Alenias, and then flew over to settle on Aello's pack.

Alenias gave a wave to Yune as she left, and then turned her full attention to Aello. She had to make sure to listen, to do everything Aello said. She curled her fingers up, thumb tucked inside her fingers to make a good ball. She hesitated when Aello said to hit as hard as she could, but Aello said so and so Alenias gave a nod, and then threw her fist as hard as she could at Aello's left hand.

To be honest Alenias wasn't very strong, and so the punch had little force behind it. She was trying her best, face the picture of focus and determination as she threw her left fist at Aello's right hand. Her right arm remained obediently tucked against her side as she repeated the process, punching first left, and then right.

Defending Yourself (Aello)

Postby Aello on April 22nd, 2011, 1:16 am

Thwack! Aello's hands curled lightly into themselves when the Kelvic's fists made contact with them. A dull throb shot through her fingertips, causing them to grow warm, and then numb around the edges. As Alenias hit her, Aello's hands hardly drew back with the impact. She is holding back, trying not to hurt you. "The feeling may be awkward, and slightly unbalanced without the use of your other hand," Aello began, "but that will change one day when you have both hands at your disposal." There was a slight pause. "Until then, you will have to compensate for you loss by putting even more strength and precision into your good hand."

Aello turned her hands so that her palms were facing inwards, towards each other. She balled her right hand into a tight fist, and then lightly rammed it into her left palm. She then drew her hand back, and unfurled her fingers. "You are practicing your aim as well as the physical movement of the punch. Try to hit the palm, and only the palm, not the fingers," Aello instructed as she raised her hands again. Her palms were facing outwards and towards Alenias, and her hands hovered just below each side of her face.

"Do not be afraid to strike as hard as you can," Aello added. "There is no need for you to hold back with this hand. It is the other that you must be careful of." Chirp! Chirp! There was a slight pause, before Aello added, "if it helps, pretend that each of the palms are the face of someone trying to hurt you. To hurt Yune, or myself. Put yourself into a situation where you'd be forced to defend, or even, to attack, and punch with all of your might."

Although Aello was staring at Alenias, her gaze seemed far away, as though she were looking right through the Kelvic. Perhaps she was in some sort of trance, or perhaps she were merely in her own little world. Doing her best to stay away from any pain Alenias may manage to inflict on her. Surely, the Kelvic could not be certain.

Aello, on the other hand, could, and the girl knew that soon enough, if she so chose, she could see the Kelvic's aura again. Aello knew that this way she could keep a better eye on Alenias, although, her body would begin to grow far more tired than it should. Far faster than it should, and that pretty soon, if she was not able to fight her urge to use magic, she would need to rest.

Defending Yourself (Aello)

Postby Alenias on April 22nd, 2011, 2:37 pm

Alenias nodded silently as Aello spoke, giving her full focus to the woman. She wanted to make sure she didn't miss a single thing, or make a mistake. Aello was being nice enough to teach her, even though she was worried. Alenias wanted to make sure she didn't regret it.

As Aello demonstrated how to punch Alenias moved to mimic her, but she couldn't move her right arm. She paused for a moment, looked down at her right hand, and then looked back at Aello before doing her best to do the same action, but with her fist only punching the air where her right hand would have been.

"Do be careful you two," Yune chirped as Aello spoke of striking as hard as Alenias could.

Alenias didn't want to hurt Aello, but she would do what ever the woman asked. She did her best to imagine Aello's hands as people trying to hurt her, but that made her just want to run away. The thought of someone wanting to hurt Yune did make her upset, and she threw another punch at Aello's left hand, about the same as her other ones had been.

The thought of someone wanting to hurt Aello brought a flood of emotions to Alenias. Fear, panic, but most prominently a burning anger. Glaring at Aello's hand she saw Trevinus' face, and she let out a furious scream as she tossed a punch at Aello's right hand with all her might, so hard that she put herself a bit off balance.

Defending Yourself (Aello)

Postby Aello on April 22nd, 2011, 3:57 pm

Aello's eyes sparkled, and a smile spread from ear to ear. "Very good Alenias, that is much better," Aello said. Her voice was laced with pride, despite the slight sting that lingered in each of her palms. Despite the bright red color that was coursing through her pale skin, like a flame. "You are allowing your imagination to guide you. Your emotions to take over while your mind begins to clear." There was a pause, "or at least, that is how it is with some of us when we fight," she said in reference to herself.

Aello knew that when she was locked in battle, she hardly thought. She simply felt, anticipated, did her best to react to her opponent in such a way as to keep her from getting killed. "Anyway," she continued, with a slight shake of her head, "you should hold onto whatever you are feeling right now. Allow it to fill you... consume you," Aello instructed, as she simply stood, bracing herself for the girl's next attack.

Although her magic hadn't yet come into play, Aello could sense the Kelvic's determination. She knew the girl was just getting ready, and she hoped that her hands could take it. She hoped that the Kelvic could take it. As Aello continued to stare, a deep red mist mixed with light blues, and pale yellows came into view. The Kelvic's aura had developed even more- not only was she excited to learn now, but her survival instincts were beginning to awaken. The red, although just pushing through the other colors, stemming from her body, was steadily growing. The blue, which had been so strong before, was fading into the background, the edges of the aura. Where it had once seemed like a sun in the center of a blue sky, it now seemed to only be a fiery, passionate sun, intent on its task.

The aura seemed to spark, to give off the slightest hint of heat, and a level of brightness that Aello had never really seen in an aura before. She found it difficult not to avert her gaze. It truly felt like she was staring at a miniature version of the sun. Her eyes stung, and the edges of her mind ached. The corners of her eyes were following bright blue dots, and she knew she simply couldn't look much longer, as dazzling, and simply alluring as the aura was.

Aello narrowed her eyes, so that they were tiny slits. She was still following blue dots, and seemingly looking past her companion. The edges of her eyes, around her irises were turning red, and she knew that now was the time to stop. She could barely feel the impact Alenias made on her hands now, as she blinked once, and held her eyes shut for a count of ten seconds. When she opened her eyes again, the aura was gone.

A small portion of Aello's heart ached, she missed it, for some strange reason. She shook her head slightly again, just strong enough for a few strands of brown hair to fall into her face, and curl around the edges of her lips. She didn't move to wipe them away as she whispered, "your fists will not be your only weapon. You have your legs as well... and in time, you will understand how to use them together, to your advantage. But for now, you should just practice, with one. Try to reach the palms with your feet. Try not to fall, and do not fret if you miss. You are still learning Alenias."

Aello seemed so very tired, so very far away, and the world seemed so very far from her as her senses continued to dull.

Perhaps she would slip into a short slumber soon.

Defending Yourself (Aello)

Postby Alenias on April 22nd, 2011, 8:59 pm

The smile and pride in Aello's voice filled Alenias with a happiness she had not felt in a very long time. She'd almost forgotten what it felt like, but now it radiated from her face with her own huge smile. The smile faded a little as Aello told her to hold onto the feelings she was having now. She didn't like some of the feelings she had now, but if doing so would make Aello happy like this Alenias would do anything the woman asked.

Doing as Aello instructed Alenias took a few deep breaths, focusing on the feelings inside her. Fear, panic, and anger. She thought of the night Treanas had died, but this time it was Aello there, hurt and begging for them not to touch Alenias. Tears filled Alenias' eyes at the thought, and she let out another scream as she threw another all out punch at Aello's palm. Scream after scream tore out from her as she threw punch after punch with her left hand, and slowly she started to get better at not over balancing herself so much as she attacked.

After some time Alenias' throat and arm burned from the exertion. She was still preparing for another punch, despite her breathing having grown heavier, when Aello spoke again and told her to try and kick. Alenias paused, and then gave a small nod, "Yes Aello."

Taking a moment to focus on Aello's hands Alenias took a deep breath, and then let out another furious scream as she kicked upwards with her left foot. Upwards her foot shot, and she felt it brush against Aello's hand. She hadn't thought about momentum however, and so her foot kept going up and unbalancing her, causing her to fall backwards onto the ground with a thud.

"Ow," Alenias said, and then froze for a moment before looking sorrowfully up at Aello.

Any worries about having to stop learning were quickly pushed aside as she noticed how tired Aello was, and Alenias quickly got back up to her feet, "Aello, are you alright? You look really tired, should we go rest?"

Defending Yourself (Aello)

Postby Aello on April 22nd, 2011, 9:56 pm

Aello's fingers twitched, and fell inwards, like the leaves off the trees each time Alenias hit them. But each time, Aello felt the impact less and less, and the pain that had once stung her hands was little more than a dull throb. Then little more than the tingling sensation one gets when their arms or legs fall asleep, and then little more than irritating pin pricks.

Aello's eyes were beginning to close, and her hands beginning to fall when Alenias kicked them, and then spoke to her. Although the voice seemed small and far away from where the young spiritist was, it sliced through her like a knife through butter. "Of course Alenias," Aello replied, "don't be worried. You did everything you were told to do, and although this was your first day, you already made some improvements." Her voice was low, far away. She was trying to raise her hands again, and keep them in one place, so that Alenias could practice. But she could feel herself struggling each time her body told her it was time to go to sleep. Each time her head tilted inwards just a little bit, so that she could do so standing up.

"Although, we should probably take a rest now," Aello added. "Just to be sure you don't over-work yourself and make that arm of yours any worse." There was a slight pause as Aello allowed her body to curl into itself. A moment later she was sitting cross-legged on the ground, with her eyes fully closed. She was just about to allow Nysel to drag her away into sleep when she whispered, "at the end of a fight like this, when you are only practicing, you should try to meditate if you can, or at least stretch if you cannot meditate. To help yourself wind down." As soon as the words had left her lips, Aello could feel sleep's cobwebs tugging at her.

And Aello let them take her away to the world of sleep.
