Considered one of the most mysterious cities in Mizahar, Alvadas is called The City of Illusions. It is the home of Ionu and the notorious Inverted. This city sits on one of the main crossroads through The Region of Kalea.

Season of Spring, Day 23, 511 AV

Once again Vhanet was wandering the streets of Alvadas, and while she had a goal in mind it was not one of hunting. At least not hunting for food.

Walking through the ever changing streets, which currently were paved in grass and flowers, she was searching for someone that she could experiment on. She had received Ionu's Mark not long ago, she knew the basics of what it granted her, but she had no practical experience yet.

So, holding her furred cloak close about her against the cool air she wandered where the streets would take her to find someone who looked fun to play with. A man would be fun, but a woman could prove just as interesting. Not just anyone would do either, the common people who inhabited the city like simple decorations, she wanted someone who caught her interest and whom she could play a fun game with.

OOCVhanet just intends to play around with Illusionism here, nothing harmful, so no worries about getting eaten anyone who joins. :)

Derric

For Derric, today was just a day to wander the streets of Alvadas, admiring the countless things that made the city so incredibly unique. The warning he had received from an insane symenestra months earlier, that even Alvadas would someday become the norm and therefore sink into monotony, was the last thing on his thoughts. As far as the performer was concerned, Alvadas would always be wonderful.

One thing that helped to make that fact true was the city's ability to change. Every day Derric would wake up to find himself in an altogether different environment. On this one day in particular, for instance, the streets were made of grass and covered with flowers. Sure, it was strang; people from any other part of Mizahar would find such a thought absurd. Yet, Derric found pleasure in the strangeness. It just felt... right. Alvadas, for its many oddities, was Derric's kind of city.

As he walked along the streets, a single figure managed to catch his attention. In front of him stood a seemingly ordinary women, her long black hair swaying slightly in the light wind. Yet, aside from a seductively pleasant face, Derric couldn't quite place a finger on what it was that made him come to a stop in the middle of the flower-dotted street. Sure, she was an attractive lady, but it wasn't like Alvadas was lacking in that department. In a city were illusions were common, there was no shortage of people wearing dazzling, realistic disguises to mask otherwise mundane faces.

Still, he stopped. Squinting in confusion, his head at a slight angle, he looked the figure over for a second time. Regaining muscle control, Derric began walking forward, brushing slightly against the woman as he passed. "Excuse me," he said, perplexity evident in his tone, as he continued on. As the distance between the two grew to a few yards, the performer took another moment to pause, considering the possibility of further investigation. Hesitantly, he turned just so that she could see him, taking a moment to weigh his options.

For a time there was little that caught Vhanet's eye, and she was starting to think about using just some poor slob, when an incredibly tall man brushed past her. He excused himself, but confusion was evident in his voice as he walked on. A hint of a smile touched her lips as she watched him. He would certainly do.

As the man paused and turned slightly Vhanet took a few steps towards him, and as her first test of Ionu's gift, she spoke, filling the air with the illusion of her voice lacking its typical serpent accent, "Excuse me sir? Is something wrong?"

The sound of her own voice, completely lacking her normal accent, brought a smile to Vhanet's lips, once which she used to show the man a polite and kind smile, "I could not help but overhear some uncertainty in your voice?"

As she spoke she let her cloak slip open, revealing the view of her golden skin that the neck of her blouse afforded. Certainly not the open window to their cleavage that some women would wear to draw a man's eye, but just a hint of the curves of her chest visible, to tease and interest.

Derric

"Excuse me sir? Is something wrong?" Derric turned fully to face the woman as she began to speak. There was something off in her voice, something subtly unnatural in her accent. It was a small abnormality, sure, but the slightest bit unsettling all the same. If anything, it enforced his belief that there was something odd about this woman, more odd than an ordinary citizen of the city that is. He frowned, trying to grasp at whatever it was that felt strange. "I could not help but overhear some uncertainty in your voice?"

As she spoke, the woman let her cloak slip open. The gesture seemed blatantly seductive to Derric, for it allowed him a view of the curves of her chest. Sure, she was not as revealing as a normal women going after a man would be, but the very thought of being seduced by a total stranger made Derric recoil uncomfortably.

After a moment, he stepped forward again, looking her in the eyes as he spoke. "Who, me?" Derric began, unsure of exactly how to proceed. "Yeah, it was nothing... I just, I just thought I recognized you for a moment," he said, mentally flailing to regain his composure. His curiosity tugged him forward, pleading for an investigation of this strange lady. However, for the moment, Derric withheld. Strangeness, he knew from past experience, didn't necessarily mean harmless.

Vhanet wanted to laugh as she saw the man's reaction to her, but she simply kept her pleasant, polite smile on her face. It seemed the man was a gentleman, or possibly not attracted to women by the way he recoiled at the small amount of skin she showed? Either way the thought amused her.

Taking a couple hesitant steps towards the man Vhanet tilted her head to the side in a show of curiosity as she spoke again, continuing to hold the illusion over her voice, "You do seem a little familiar... Perhaps we met during the Festival?" she gave a little laugh, "There was so much happening during that week I'm not sure I can remember it all well."

After the last words had left her mouth she released the illusion over her words. Now it was time to try something visual. Since the man was so intent on her eyes she decided to play with him a little, changing the appearance of her eyes from their usual darkness to a brilliant golden color.

Derric

Derric looked at the woman as she spoke, still trying to place a finger on what seemed off about her. What was it that just didn't seem to match up? Frustrated at his own confusion Derric frowned, unable to entirely dismiss the matter. However, it wasn't as though it mattered, for a moment later his questions were answered. At least, he thought they were.

It happened suddenly. One moment, Derric had been listening to her speak, the next, he'd taken a full stride backwards out of surprise. The change was in her eyes, and if he hadn't been the kind of person to look at people as the spoke he probably would of missed it entirely. All of a sudden, the woman's eyes shifted color, changing from darkness to bright gold. It was impressive, however, having been in Alvadas for a decent amount of time, he had a pretty good idea of what was going on.

"Impressive," Derric spoke calmly, feeling like he was in total control of the situation. Whether or not that fact was indeed true, the performer moved closer to the woman and continued to speak, "It's an illusion, isn't it? I mean, sure, to anyone outside of this city, it'd be some kind of evil magic. But, we've both been here long enough to know that's not true. I must say, I feel a little jealous." Over the course of his time in the city, he'd spoken to at least two illusionists. Considering that they both seemed crazy right from the start, Derric felt that if this one didn't seem insane yet, then she must be different.

Another laugh threatened to spill out of her mouth as the man took a step back in surprise. This gift was so much fun! Quickly the man recovered, and guessed at what the source of the changes were. She had to say he had some intelligence, but she wasn't done having fun yet.

"What are you talking about?" Vhanet asked with a confused look and tilt of her head as she let the illusion fade from her eyes.

Casting a confused look around behind her she focused on her next illusion. The scent of burning flesh, one she remembered well from many sacrifices, seeped into the air around the two of them. It was a delicious scent, but Vhanet simply retained the confused look on her face as she turned her attention back to the man, "Are you well?"

Derric

He was stupid to expect that she wouldn't deny his accusation. After all, considering the illusions thus far seemed playful in nature, Derric should of guessed that this woman, whoever she was, was just toying with him. If she admitted to creating the illusions, it'd ruin the fun. Of course, she wouldn't do that, because, like all illusionists, she probably had a taste for a little fun an excitement.

Yet, despite her reluctance to tell Derric about her powers, the performer couldn't help but feel interested. He had dreams of one day harnessing the ability to create illusions, and therefore it was only normal that he would want to get to know one of Ionu's marked. Who knew, maybe she was just what he needed. However, before any of that mattered, he'd need a confession.

"What are you talking about?" Derric sighed quietly as she spoke, feeling frustrated at how difficulty this might very well turn out to be. As he breathed in, however, something was different. The air had filled with a strange scent, one that Derric could only speculate to be along the lines of burning flesh. Of course, having never actually smelt such a thing, that's all it was: a speculation. Little did he know, the assumption couldn't be more true. "Are you well?" Of course, he said to himself, Those with the gift always seem to be such good performers. That was when an idea began to form in his mind

"Wha- What? You mean, you didn't... God, the light must be playing tricks on my, sorry... Hmm," he said, faking in a dramatic sniff as he finished. If this woman was going to play pretend, Derric figured, why not just play along? He frowned, acting as though he was disgusted by the smell. "Is something... Is something burning?" He looked around, 'trying' to find the source of the illusory smell.

Vhanet was a little disappointed in the reaction the smell received from the man. In Ahnetep she had seen grown men reduced to tears and blubbering at the scent. Perhaps this man had no experience with it. It was something to keep in mind for the future.

Vhanet gave several sniffs of the air at the man's comment, taking one long breath at the end. Even knowing it was an illusion the smell brought back many fond memories. Still she shook her head, "I don't think you are well. Maybe you need to retire to a cooler place?"

As she spoke she released the illusion of the smell, and then moved onto her next sense, touch. Focusing on the man she created an illusion around him, starting on his right hand. The feel of a sharp blade splitting skin and and digging into flesh started on the back of his hand, and then slowly started winding its way up his arm. The burning pain, cool touch of the dagger, and the wet feeling of fresh blood spilling over the rest of the skin, this was definitely the most complex illusion yet. It was a feeling she knew very well though, having been cut herself many times. Would he be able to keep his cool under such a feeling?

Derric

"Ow!" Derric said, startled by the sudden feeling of a dagger digging into his flesh. He grabbed the wrist of the hurting hand and brought it in front of his face, half expecting to see a gaping hole in the skin. Of course, he knew better than that, and was hardly surprised to find that there was nothing wrong with his hand. Despite understanding that the pain was illusory, it still hurt and the performer couldn't wait until the illusionist released her grip on this particular illusion.

As the imaginary blood ran down his hand, an inkling of doubt began to take a place in Derric's head. He glanced around, looking for anyone else that seemed suspicious. While it was entirely possible that the woman in front of him was simply an excellent actor, and that she truly was the illusionist, Derric had began to think that maybe he had the wrong person. Perhaps some other inexperienced illusionist was toying with him from afar, fully content to have Derric assume that this random woman was the source of the trickery.

Unwilling to completely let go of his initial notions, as well as anxious to get away from this place on the off chance there really was another illusionist pulling the strings, Derric responded to the woman's question, "Yeah... I probably just need to cool down a little. Do you have anywhere in mind?" Further interrogation would wait until he was certain that she was the one toying with him. Until that point, he would head in whatever direction she suggested while watching out for anyone that seemed to follow him.
