As his fist connected solidly with her shoulder, a dull pain arched up his arm but it was miniscule to the pain radiating up from his broken hand. Using the leftover momentum from his punch he spun around, but bent his knees as he did so he lowered on his haunches, and turned around in place. As he was fixing to complete his turn, he noticed a flicker of movement from the woman as she went for a attack, and he moved his feet quickly into place setting them firmly before twisting to the side at the last second. He was already much lower than where her attack was aimed due to the way he caught himself by chance, but still the blade in her hand barely managed to nick his left ear as he rolled to the side. Still a small cut on his ear was better than a gash on his left arm and he thought as he completed his roll.

As he finished it he came up in a crouch with his right leg bent and supporting him. He would keep his left leg and motion, as he would have swept it towards her but not at her, in a effort to discourage any quick pursuit. As his leg came around to meet the end of the half circuit, his right would spring into action launching him backwards in a spinning motion, and swept his right leg in a sweeping motion at eye level. This strike would only get her if she had gone for him and dodged his left foot, striking her in the temple or jaw if she didn't dodge.

After the second defensive spin he would land easily on the balls of his feet, his right foot a paces behind his leading left foot. His left foot would be pointed towards her, or where she was if she dodged, and his right would be pointed slightly to the side, ready to snap into action at his command. He also held his left arm diagonal in front of him like a shield, with his right arm held horizontal a few inches below his left. If the moment was at a standstill it would be now that he chose to say a few words before resuming the fevering spar, " Don't worry about it, we all know the inherent risks in sparring, and more ever the fact that they are worth it " he said with a disarming smile, but his stance was still held and his muscles tightened in preparation. " May the best of us win " he said softly in such a way he wasn't even sure if she heard him. The woman was skilled, and no stranger to actual heated combat, which put her at a advantage to Nex who had seen little combat outside of training except for the occasional one on one, and a couple of bouts in the woods. Unconsciously he noted he slim line of blood that encircled her iris but he knew not what that meant, surely not internal trauma from that simple punch. Her eyes weren’t like that at the beginning of the spar , he noted, but he pushed the thought from his head. This was no time for thinking about anything besides fighting.

Soon depending on what she did, he snapped into action. If she choose to use his brief distraction to charge, his arms where already moving outwards ready to cross down if she tried to stab at his center. If she went that avenue he would cross down his arms to strike his forearm against the top of her wrist and disarm her, if she went high, his arms would dip appropriately and come up to deflect the it harmlessly to the side, if she went in low he would simply hop over the blade, and try to snap up his knee to hit her in her collar bone or face if she didn't dodge in time. However if she choose not to charge at him at all, he would just stand there briefly to catch his breath before he charged at her again with a different tactic. As soon as he would have sprinted off he would plant his right hand on the ground before him, and use the power of his push off the ground to pull off a front flip in the air. From their depending on how close she was he would strike at her from a higher angle. If she was really close to him, then his little jump would be devastating to both him and her, unless she dodged out of the way in time, from that close her dagger would most likely score a few hits on his legs if she had the presence of mind to strike but not dodge, but if she didn't strike or dodge, the balls of his feet would strike her shoulders or he would simply crash into her, if she dodged, he would need a moment or two to regain his balance, and she could possibly land a few counterstrikes against him. If she was a medium distance way he would be within striking range of her, his foot likely hitting her in the center of her chest, or hand depending on where she held her dagger. If she was more than a 4 or 5 feet away from him then his attack would completely miss, but it give him a chance to land on the flat of his feet and resume his defensive posture again.

oocNo problem here, perfect work on your part, mine got a little complicated so if you need me to tweak anything or take anything out, just let me know, like the aura reading you did, was very interesting to read, those are the bones I figured would be broken too, the picture was much appreciated.

Found in the Dark (Aello)

Postby Aello on May 17th, 2011, 10:34 pm

All you got was his ear, Aello's mind whispered, as she pulled her arm back towards her, so that it would not hang awkwardly in the air between her and Nex. She could see a flash of movement out of the corner of her eye, his leg is coming to block you, she thought, as she took a cautious half step back, deciding it best to get out of his way to regroup before he got her with one of his crazy tricks. It was a good thing that she had, for a second later, she noticed his foot coming towards her. Startled, Aello's eyes grew wide as she took another half step back, and then bent her body back at the waist. Her back had curled into a C shape, and she had allowed her arms to fall to her sides. Her neck had been tilted back as far as it would go, so that it may follow the lines her back and shoulders had made. Her long brown hair tumbled off her shoulders, and reached towards the ground. Aello was looking up at the sky as her body trembled, trying to maintain the odd, and uncomfortable position. Several beads of sweat trickled down the side of Aello's brow, as Nex's leg darted past her nose, bringing a cool breeze along with it.

That was close, Aello thought as she straightened herself up and took a few steps away from Nex. She shook her head vigorously, whipping her hair wildly about her as she tried to straighten out her mind. Concentrate, Aello told herself. You have had too many close calls. You need to focus so that you may come out victorious. Her eyes had closed as she continued to shake her head, she was scrunching them shut. Focus. Breath. Aello opened her eyes and quit shaking her head. Her hair scattered to either end of her face, as she took a deep breath in through the nose, and out through the mouth. Aello assumed the basic fighting stance as she waited for Nex to strike. It cannot be long now, she told herself.

A second later, Nex had launched forward, and then put his hand on the ground? Is he showing off or something? Aello wondered before she realized that he was trying to flip towards her. Aello's brows furrowed. Now why would he waste so much energy doing that? she wondered, as she stepped to the right, so that she would be out of his way. Perhaps he will fall flat on his face and we may simply go in for the kill, she thought, as she waited to see what would happen. Should he fall flat on his face, Aello would walk over to him calmly, sit on his back, and thrust the blade in-between his right arm, and his side, simply to show that this is when he would have been killed. Should he land on his back, she'd simply kneel at his side, and then thrust the blade in the space that lingered between his right arm and his right side; simply to prove she could kill him. If Nex didn't stumble, however, she'd dash after him, lift the blade over her head, before bringing it back down, towards the center of his stomach, or his back, depending on how he was standing.

OOCSorry this post is not too exciting. All the possible actions in the last para would be attempted depending on how the flip goes. Again... it doesn't mean she'd be successful. That's up to you.

He ended his flip by landing flat on his feet, and rolling his weight onto his knees was all he could do to keep from falling flat on his face. You idiot! he scolded himself, why would you try such a move that you never attempted before. Of course he knew nothing at all about acrobatics, and he was surely not skilled enough to pull off such a complex move, but he was desperate. Even before the last ditch effort that had been the flip, he had felt his energy beginning to wane, and he knew that he wouldn't last much more in the fight. Knowing that he did the only thing he could do, try to end the fight with a attempt of doing a stunt that would finish it, and honestly he was surprised he didn't land flat on his face when she dodged, but he only counted himself slightly lucky.

His breath came in gasps, and his chest heaved to catch his breath, nearly all of his energy having fled him with that last maneuver, but as he saw a flurry of movement from his left side, he grinned as he saw his sparring partner would allow him no such rest from his foolish mistake. I haven’t lost this fight yet he thought, but deep down he admitted that he had lost it when he'd tried that flip. Even despite recognizing that he would try to make the best of it, and go down honorably. It is better to die with honor, than live a coward ran through his head, and he found the mantra oddly comforting.

If she rushed at him, and stabbed the blade at his center, he would quickly raise his left arm across to try and bash the blade aside, and would punch out with his right arm, his blow aimed for her knee cap. Since he was couched on the ground, if she her strike came for his head, he would simply fall on his side to avoid the blow and depending on which direction it came would influence where he fell. Upon his touching of the ground assuming her blow missed or only glanced him, he would kick out with both legs, his feet aimed to hit one or both of her calves depending on which way she was facing. He had no strategy for retreat; it was simply not his way.

Found in the Dark (Aello)

Aello smiled, so he did manage to stay on his own two feet. Good for Nex. But... that may not last long. After all, we could easily cut them off, or at least, get him to fall flat on his face like we wanted him to. As soon as he had landed, Aello strode forward, while raising her blade over her head. As soon as she was near enough, she plunged it downwards, towards her opponent. Nex raised his left arm and pushed it upwards, into the flesh close to Aello's elbow, effectively deflecting her attack. Come on now, it should not be this difficult to land an attack on him, Aello thought, as she grit her teeth and several beads of sweat trickled down her face from atop her brow. Her skin seemed to glow as her blade fell away from Nex, and closer to her. There has to be a way...

As Nex's left arm came forward to block Aello's attack, the right shot out in an attempt to strike her knee cap. Seeing the hand moving towards her out of the corner of her eye, Aello took a step back. Nex's fist crashed into her knee a few seconds later, with a loud thwack. Aello's movement had only managed to save her from a small portion of the attack's force. Thus, Aello stumbled backwards, sharp shooting pains coursing through her knee. She clenched her eyes shut as she nibbled on her bottom lip to distract her from the larger amount of pain that was coursing through her right knee. It took her a moment to open her eyes again, and assume the starting fighter's stance. Just don't let him hit you again, and everything will be fine. The girl nodded slightly as her eyes glanced up and down her opponent.

Just go for the jugular, if you will, and get this spar over with, Aello told herself, as she sprang forward, towards Nex. As soon as she was within striking distance, she'd push her dagger-wielding arm towards Nex, in an upwards, diagonal line, starting on the right side of her body near her waist, and ending just above her shoulder on the left side of her body. To ensure that the dagger quit pointing towards her, and faced her opponent instead, she'd twist her body slightly into Nex, so that her side was exposed to him, as opposed to her stomach, or her back.

OOCSorry Nex, I am running out of cool moves. >.<

All of his energy fled him when his fist crashed into the side of Aello's knee, he felt his legs give up on holding his body in a crouch, and he crashed to the ground only moments later lying on his side, his energy truly spent. He smiled that he had gotten off that last shot, and found that even such a simple expression was hard to exert. How did I possibly spend this much energy in a spar he wondered, and remembered it had been some time sense he last ate. And what of my sparring partners fate he thought praying silently that she was no longer able to continue the fight.

Using the little remainder of energy he had left, he struggled to support himself with his elbows, and still breathing hard he slowly looked over to where he supposed she would be after his attack. His eyes widened as he saw that she was still on her feet, and still coming for him. Sluggishly he lifted up his right arm in an attempt to block the imminent strike, but he was too worn out to hold it up more than a second, and his arm fell across his chest limply. No longer able to move, he simply kept his eyes on her as his lips curled into as much of a grin as he could manage. This woman is good, and I fine sparring partner, I’m lucky she stumbled across me he thought, as he watched her and laid there to accept his defeat.

oocIts fine, so was I, and Nex was running out of energy anyway.

Found in the Dark (Aello)

Postby Aello on May 18th, 2011, 6:19 pm

The dagger inched closer and closer to Nex. Aello's heart was pounding in her tiny rib cage, and sweat trickled freely down her face. Her skin glowed, her throat felt dry. She was nearly breathless. Every part of her body was either sore, in pain, or both. Her muscles were still tense, and in several places, her long white dress stuck to her skin, due to the salty sweat that lingered on her flesh. Almost there, you have him now, Aello told herself just before he fell. A warrior such as him... crumbling before us...

Aello's blade came to a sudden halt. The tip pressing into Nex's flesh for a second, bending the skin, beneath it. Still, more than likely not enough to make it bleed. Aello's chest rose and fell heavily as she struggled to catch her breath. Slowly, she pulled the blade away from Nex, and returned it to its usual hiding place. She kept on breathing, in through the nose, out through the mouth for several moments, before turning to gaze at him. "Tired?" she asked simply. Before asking, "is that the only reason you fell? For the fight was a good one. It is not often one finds someone quite as talented as you within this city." There was a slight pause. "People seem to think that just because they own a weapon, they are dangerous. Good with one. That's not the case, it take a long time, to become strong, competent with a weapon, even if it's a pair of fists." A small smile crept across Aello's lips. "It would be unwise to dispose of someone such as yourself," she finished, offering him her right hand for support.

"Come along, lets get that hand patched up the best we can," Aello said. "Just to make sure it doesn't bleed all over the place." Her smile widened, and her eyes seemed to shimmer playfully. "We can rest as well... maybe get something to drink." A drink would be so lovely right now... and perhaps, even a drop of blood.

OOCFeel free to wrap up or send the thread in as is. You may want to go to V, though, he seems to have a little less in his office to grade.

P.S. Sorry I assumed I would hit you since your block failed. I can change the post though if it's a problem...

The metal of the dagger felt ice cold, to his skin, and for a moment he thought the blade would puncture his skin, either by her doing, or his violent breathing. When she withdrew the blade though he breathed a sigh of relief, that was lost within is gasps to attempt to catch his breath. He was more relieved with the way the spar ended than the fact that the blade didn't pierce itself, filling the ending was suiting and left room for him to hone his talents even better for the next time they chanced to spar. Nex's next few breaths came with some difficulty but very slowly he felt a trickle of energy returning to his limbs, his breaths starting to come in slower, and more even.

" Aye " he croaked out laying there on the ground, and after a couple of more deep breaths, he managed to speak to her a little better. " As much as my heart would like to continue the fight, I'm afraid my body is not willing to continue. Don’t get into many fights like this one anymore, I'm afraid I don't know that many in the city, but lucky I was to spar with the likes of you " he complimented, and smiled with shared sentiment. " It was a pleasure to fight with you, and may your enemies tremble at the thought of facing such a skilled one as yourself Nex added, as he accepted her hand to help him up.

Standing shakily on two feet now, he slowly stretched out each of his limbs trying best to proportion the little energy he had left, before going to retrieve his belongings and returning to Aello's side. At the mention of his hand, he felt a dull ache race up his arm, and he realized that he had entirely forgotten about the injury he received during the battle. Now that there was no longer any adrenaline pumping through his veins, his broken hand began to hurt all the worse, and he gritted his teeth through one particularly nasty wave of pain. Still he took it all with stride, and smiled when he saw Aello's smile.

For a few moments he just simply stared into her eyes, but then her words registered and the prospect of rest, drink, and perhaps some food and one of the nearby establishments was too good to pass up. He held his hand a little far from him so the blood oozing from the score of injuries that marred it didn't drip on his pants. " Drink and rest sounds lovely " he said as he and Aello walked out of the side passage and on to less violent things.

-The End

oocI intended for you to hit me, so I'm glad that you caught on with the whole block failing thing. Had to make an example of how truly tired Nex was after all :)

Nex Paciscor

  • +5 Unarmed Combat
  • +1 Body Building
  • +1 Investigation
  • +2 Acrobatics

Lores: Accuracy Training (Basic), Defending Against a Dagger (Basic), Using Acrobatics in a Fight (Poor)

Aello

  • +2 Auristics
  • +5 Dagger
  • +1 Acrobatics

Lores: Aura: Survivalist, Aura: Unknown Magic (Flux), Aura: Different Levels of Injuries (Poor)

You Question My Logic? :
Both of you maxed out your weapon points so I started giving points into acrobatics for all the dodging and stuff. It was the best skill I could think of since I don't believe we actually consider dodging itself a skill... unless it is, in which case you make take dodge instead of acrobatics if you wish. Also, Aello, the lore about the Unknown Magic. You don't know what it is, but you will recognize it if you ever see it again and if you ever find out what it is called you can take out the Unknown part and replace it with Flux. ...if anybody even cares about their lores that much.

Notes: I really enjoyed this thread. It's rare to see people be so creative in their combat threads. Keep up the good work! PS: From now on I'm going to try to give out more lores that actually have a point versus just silly ones.. I'll still give them, but most of my lores are going to have a use now. That being said, if I ever double up on a lore, let me know and I will change it or consider it an upgrade (as in from Basic to Extensive or whatever.)
Forecast for tonight... Dark
