Thread ThemesThis is something I'll occasionally do. I basically assign a song to threads so It has a "mood" = Chloe's Arrival

Chloe looked out across the sea towards the large fortress city, its intimidating structures built for suppressing criminals standing tall. It seemed peaceful, she would give it that. Yet, something twisted in her stomach. Chloe would admit that she was afraid to return to the fortress. Her last visit in Syliras had ended with the guards chasing her down to the docks. Unfortunately, she couldn't raise anchor before a Syliran Knight tackled her off the ship and into the water. That had been over a year ago, but she still felt uneasy about returning since the knights seemed to hold grudges pretty well.

She sighed irritably, knowing she had no other choice. All her supplies were stolen, her ship was damaged, and her stomach was empty. The second one alone was enough to make her risk it. Her fingers tap at the mast as her ship waded closer to the docks, a row of ships extending from coast to coast. There were Casinors, like hers, Galleons, rowboats, and everything in between. Chloe clicked her tongue, jealousy churning in her gut. She had always cared for her ship like it was her child, but she would easily take the chance to "upgrade". Ships were, after all, just objects. Something she could never understand while living with her Svefra family was their bond with their ships. It was as if they were extension of themselves like another arm or leg. Chloe always cared for her ships, yes, but not to the extent that she would kill herself over it. She cared for it because it was hers.

After some time the ship rolled alongside the dock, just barely missing another boat as they drifted in. At this time of day not too many people were milling about, but there were scattered handfuls of people standing alongside their vessels, chatting idly with their friends. Guards stood at the entrances to the city, their plate armor making them look like statues made of silver in the mid-day light. They briefly glanced at her, showing very little interest, and turned their heads back towards the sea. The breath she had been holding was released when they showed no signs of attack.

After dropping anchor Chloe leap off the boat with rope in hand, attempting to pull the ship closer to dock. The wind decided to pick up quite a bit now, and pushed the Casinor away from the struggling sailor trying to anchor her feet on the ground. "C'mon ya dill!" she said aloud, her think accent clearly noticeable. She began to skid towards the edge of the deck until she relocated to the steel moore to give herself a sturdy foothold, but she was obviously having some trouble.

Strangers and Supplies [Victor]

Postby Vondonos Sultros on July 23rd, 2011, 10:45 pm

Victor yawned as he trudged along the streets of Syliras. He had been walking for 5 hours that day alone. Not only was he tired after carrying this much weight for miles upon miles, he was also hot since he was wearing a thick black cloak. Victor had been seriously doubting the wisdom of coming to Syliras from the Spires by foot. The journey had taken more days than he could count, but he was finally able to look forward to a nice warm bed at night, instead of literally sleeping on the floor. Cursing the thieves that had stolen his and his father's horses, he resumed his trek across the street to the nearest guard. He would have to ask one where the nearest bar was. Victor closed his eyes in annoyance. It didn't matter where the nearest bar was because he was absolutely broke. He didn't have anything on him that he could sell for a nice bed. There were his memento's for his father, which he would rather die than let go. There were a week's worth of food, he would die if he let those go. 'Well,", though Victor, "I can go to the bar and see if they need anything fixed in exchange for a good night's sleep." Victor sighed and started towards the guard, when he heard a strange sound.

"C'mon, ya dill?" Victor thought to himself, turning around to see an attractive woman struggling with a small ship. Victor didn't know what a dill was, but he really didn't care. All he saw was a girl in distress. Victor rushed over to the dock, dropping off his pack and cloak on the dock near the girl. Victor suddenly felt like a weight had been lifted off of his chest. Or his back. Either way, he felt like he could fly through the air. Pulling a boat would be only too easy. Victor grabbed the rope and heaved. He smiled, turning his head to face the lady who was hanging on to the moore for dear life. “Hey, the name’s Victor. What’s yours?”

Strangers and Supplies [Victor]

Chloe's eyes widened when another set of hands appeared on the rope, making her job so much easier. The voice she heard sounded friendly, and well meaning. She didn't immediately answer. The boat leaned as the sudden strength from the stranger pulled it towards the dock. "Name's Chloe." she grunted, pulling the rope until their combined efforts managed to bright the ship close enough to be moored. She was so occupied with the process that she did not take the time to survey the stranger. With lightning speed she knotted the rope to keep her vessel from drifting off again, and then quickly ran to the opposite of the boat to repeat the process. Her movements were nimble and delicate, like a leaf in the wind, yet the strength she exerted showed that she was not as frail as she seemed.

With the task finished she turned back to face Victor. She herself wasn't very tall, standing at about 5-foot-10, but she immediately noticed how short the man was, standing a foot lower than her. But what he lacked in height he surely made up for in physical appearance. His body seemed to have trouble holding the muscles that lay underneath his pale skin, and his stance gave the impression that he knew it. Chloe would have teased him of his small stature, but she knew full well that she didn't have a leg to stand on. "Well, Victor" she said huff, brushing her hair back into place. "I guess I owe you one for saving my ship. You seem like someone who could hold their liquor. How's bout we test that theory, aye?" she placed her hands on her hips, a very proud and courageous look about her. The only thing she worried about was him using his strength to overcome her and steal her Miza. That and the boat were all that she had now. Aside from a handful of tools, of course.

"Oh I can hold my liquor alright, and I'm always ready for a good drink," said Victor thankfully. Truth be told, he wasn't always ready for a good drink. He just happened not to have drunk anything but water for the past three to four weeks. And not eaten anything but bread and dried meat for the past five. He was desperate to drink and eat well, if only for one night. There were other advantages to having saved a girl as well.

Using his natural knack for precisely measuring distances, a trait that helped him immensely in his blacksmithing, Victor assumed that she was about 7 and 3/4 inches taller than him. A bit taller than he was used to, but she looked fine to him. Victor picked up his pack as if it were just your average 10-15 pound piece of luggage, instead of a 300 pound monstrosity, and quickly packed his cloak up into his backpack. He then put his arm around the female sailor and started to walk off the dock and into the streets. He hoped that she would start walking them the right direction down the street to the bar, because he had never been to Syliras before and he really had no idea where a bar would be.

Strangers and Supplies [Victor]

Postby Chloe on July 24th, 2011, 6:22 am

Chloe gave a polite smile and moved his arm away from her shoulder. Her grasp was firm, and delivered her message quite well. "I'm grateful for you helping me, and I will buy you a drink... but if you touch me again I'll stuff your balls down your throat" she warned him in a frighteningly pleasant voice, releasing her grip. If there was one thing that set off her temper it was people invading her personal space. It drove her insane when she used to visit taverns in Ravok, having people (men and women alike) rubbing against her. There was a reason she was skilled with her fists. If someone wanted to get close to her, they'd have to earn it. It was hard for her to judge whether or not Victor would be able to accomplish that. Something about his screamed "womanizer". Just the way he carried himself seemed to display an abundance of pride that made her nervous. It was too strong, in fact. Almost as if he were hiding something.

"Here we are" she announced, breaking the silence that had followed her earlier threat. She pushed open the door to the Rearing Stallion, a fairly discreet tavern in the evening, right until the dead of night. Chloe hoped they wouldn't stay that long. The smell of tobacco and sweat trespassed into her nostrils and cause her to wrinkle her nose up in disgust. "I'll get used to it... Besides... It's better to play it safe. I really don't want to get caught today. Not after all I've gone through" she led them to the counter and sat herself down on one of the wooden stools. She waved down the bartender. "An ale please, and whatever this man is having" she gestured towards Victor. Then she turned to face him. "Well then, Victor. I hope you find this a suitable reward for your efforts." she picked up her mug and brought it to her lips, taking down a substantial size of liquor before setting it back down. [b]"So, then Victor. Tell me a lil' bout yourself. What are you doing in Syliras, hmm?"

"Alright sweetheart, maybe some other time." replied Victor after Chloe ‘politely’ rejected him. They walked along the street till they reached the Rearing Stallion, what seemed to be a small dimly-lit tavern. It was unlike any tavern that Victor had ever seen in that it was quiet. Usually taverns were noisy affairs, where drunks would come to yell at each other and beat each other up. This place was barely lighted and rather quiet. Victor ordered an ale, same as her, and they sat down next to each other. Then Victor's cool slipped right off of his face, as the sailor asked him why he had came to Syliras. Truth be told, he came to the city for the same reason that he went anywhere. The same reason that he was alive. To hunt the thing that had torn his world apart. Impaled his mother and dissected his father, piece by screaming piece, right in front of his eyes. But not everyone needed to know those that. He quickly regained his composure and said, “ I’m just looking for some good and honest work. ” His heavy emphasis on the word honest made it obvious that he really didn’t care how honest the work was. And I’m looking for something too. I thought it might have come…er might be in the area. How about you Mrs. Sailor? Your ship’s a beauty, but it is a bit damaged isn’t it. I assume you came here for repairs?” He made sure to leave as remote a chance of offending Chloe as possible. He recognized the ship design from the libraries of the Spire as being a casinor, made by the Svefra. He knew that Svefra bonded with their boats just as much as the Isur bonded with their steel. He knew that insulting her ship would be insulting her, something that Victor didn’t want to do.

Strangers and Supplies [Victor]

Chloe grinned at him, taking another swig of her drink and waved down the bartender for another cup. Usually Chloe would be careful about drinking too much around a complete stranger, but despite his outward appearance there seemed to be something about him she found intriguing. He seemed much more complex, and Chloe was tempted to see what made him tick. "I got myself into hot water when I took a gander 'round Ravok. a bunch a' nasty fellas started firing at me with huge bloody cannons. I turned tail and got the hell outta there. I'm surprised they didn't sink me. Just barely traded paint with me." She shook her head and exhaled loudly. "Then some bloody digger takes all my stuff when I dock. Talk about a bad day. So I decided to come back here. Figured I'd have more security near my boat, and a much nicer selection of goods to... purchase " She gave him a malicious smile when she said the last word.

"Oh, and call me Chloe, please. If you want to be so... Proper... Then call me Ms. Riptide then. I'm no Mrs, I'm not married". She teased him, idly rubbing a gruesome-looking scar that ran across her hand. She briefly recalled her encounter with the sharks near her hometown, and how she had barely managed to get away. The wound on her hand was a reminder of how close she had gotten to losing her fingers, and the bite mark that hid beneath her shirt was a reminder of how sharp a shark's teeth were. Only a small section of it could be seen on her chest, her v-neck shirt permitting this.

Before long the alcohol began to tale effect, tainting her mind. As of now she still had control, though. "You remind me of someone... an ol' crew-mate. He looked alot like you. One time we..." she stopped to giggle. "...we were going to rob this bookstore. We didn't know what the hell we were doing. It was our first act as criminals. But the old man who owned the shop, he-"[/b] she giggled again. "he knocked him to tha' floor with his cane, and started beatin' him with this huge encyclopedia. Had bruises all on him for 2 weeks." she chuckled and took another drink. Her eyes began to droop. "You say youre lookin for work, aye? Maybe I'll take you with me. It's always better to have an accomplice. That is, if you don't mind getting your hands dirty" she hiccuped loudly, and placed a hand on the table to steady herself.

"Ah Ravok. I've been there once, and let me tell you. It is a great place to get killed. Or stolen. Or mutilated. Fun place. I hope that you were able to purchase the items at a reasonable price. Hm? And by the way, I wasn't being proper or anything. I'll call you what I want, m'kay princess?" said Victor, smiling so that Chloe would know that he was only joking.

So she was a thief. Since his father died, Victor really didn't think too badly of thievery. He had even, on occasion, stolen some small items of value himself, to pay for food and board. He knew that his father had always made sure to keep him above the board and honest, but Victor had a different way of doing things. His goal was revenge and revenge alone. He was not interested in anything else, unlike his father who wanted to keep his son safe from harm even more than he wanted to kill the beast.

Victor took a swig of his drink, barely waiting to polish it off before another one was in front of him. Victor was good with drink, having been drinking since he left Sultros at 12. By the time he could detect Chloe succumbing to the happy juice, Victor still more or less had his wits about him. His eyes widened when, though it was probably the drink talking, she offered him to join her. He quickly looked behind him to make sure that nobody heard them talking. In most cities, just talking about a crime wouldn't matter too much, but in Syliras it was a crime. The Knights were vigilant and he didn't need a farewell party. Luckily, it didn't seem like there was anybody else in the room. Smiling again, Victor leaned in very close and put his mouth closer to her ear than he would dare to do if she was fully awake. "Interesting. I might just take you up on that offer. But first, I have something of a proposition. Why don't we steal ourselves a nice big ship?" he whispered.

Strangers and Supplies [Victor]

Postby Chloe on July 25th, 2011, 2:33 am

Chloe nodded at Victor comment concerning Ravok. It was indeed a vicious city, crawling with vermin, herself occasionally included. She had no desire to return there anytime soon, regardless of how easy it was to plunder. Victor's teasing comment brought her attention back to him. His tone suggested that he was well-meaning, but his words still stung her. "Well aren't you just the gentleman?" she muttered, brushing her hair behind her ears. She finished off her second drink and slammed it down on the counter. She felt a fire surge through her veins, the alcohol burning through her body. How fond she was of it, the sensation of the liquid poison filling her. She exhaled loudly as it reached it's climax, and then settled again.

Chloe was surprises to feel her bar-mate's hot breath against her ear, and his voice seemed loud. The edges of her lips curled upwards as he proposed  a sinister plan. She liked the way this man thought. "That's not a bad idea... But I doubt we could pull that off in broad daylight. she turned her head towards him so she could see out the old window behind him. The sun was halfway down from the sky, which means they still had about 4 more bells till it hit night. She wasn't sauced up enough to think it was smart to act before then. "I imagine we'll have to kill time somehow. What do you think we should do till nightfall? That is assuming you don't want to try a stunt like that right now" she asked, her brown eyes flicking to him, the irises sparkling with excitement. She was starting to like this man.

Strangers and Supplies [Victor]

Victor gave his soon-to-be accomplice a roguish grin. He checked the sky estimated about 4 chimes till nightfall. They would probably have time. Victor again put his arm around her shoulders, but this time for a different reason. Whispering between drinking partners for too long would be a sure sign of trouble by anyone with more than five minutes of experience. Making it appear to be more than just drinking partners would help to hide what they were talking about. He hoped that she would understand this, because if she rejected him again, or acted on her previous threat, they would be much less likely to pull of their big heist. He rested his head on her shoulder, in just such a position in which he could whisper in her ear without anybody behind them being able to tell what he was saying.

"Just work with me for a second, alright? So, we could wait, but listen my plan first. So while we were leaving the dock, I couldn't help but notice quite the nice ship in the dock, a Palivar I think. A Svefran ship just like yours, but with a crew capacity of at least 5 times more. I believe the Svefra use it as both merchant and family ships. This one happens to be a family ship, I saw a family hauling out huge barrels of beer or oil or something to sell in the market. They were arguing amongst themselves about how late they were, and how they would have to spend the night. They probably won't be back until nightfall. I also noticed both guards that saw the couple entering the city just passed the bar that we are in right now. So in other words, we can just stroll onto the boat as if we own it, and take off from there. The only problem with my plan is that we'll have to leave your old ship in the dock. You can wear my cloak to sneak onto your ship and "steal" your stuff to the new ship, but if the guards see us going into your old ship, they'll know the other ship doesn't belong to us and it'll be hell from there." Winded from this long, whispered speech, he picked his head off of her shoulder and took another large swig of ale finishing it off.
